What effect will Ross Barkley’s return have on Villa’s attacking assets?

Aston Villa’s first Premier League match back since their first-team squad was forced to isolate due to a COVID outbreak saw Ross Barkley (£5.9m) return to their midfield.

Barkley took the place of Anwar El Ghazi (£5.8m), with Jack Grealish (£7.7m) moving out into a wide position.

After a strong showing against Manchester City in Gameweek 19, the former Chelsea player looks to have slotted back into the side with ease.

But with so many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers owning Villa assets like Grealish and Ollie Watkins (£6.1m), how will this affect their points potential?

I would. Lack of City defense is a big problem and you also have a lot of deadwood.

I don't think it's too bad tbh, there are definitely improvements you can make but for the most part I think you're OK. Mahrez, Ampadu, probably Martial and Robbo need to go but I think the rest is decent. Zaha has a good run of fixtures coming up, West Ham are in decent form, Arsenal better defensively, etc.

If you decide to do it, I wouldn't get Struijk. Won't get much gametime with Phillips, Cooper, Llorente back.

Kane is more likely given Brighton's style of play, I also fancy Son in this game potentially to have a bigger haul (quick break on the counter as Spurs will likely give possession to Brighton)

Think for that one week in isolation I'd put my money on Vardy.

Leeds give up so many chances and Brighton defence has probably been a little unlucky to concede as many as it has.

Vardy, Leeds defence looked petrified of him last time out and that was when they were in a better spell

If you have Vardy stick. If you have neither buy Kane because he's the better long term pick.

        A. Gundo + Vardy + Kane
        B. Son + Kane + Bamford

Who do you have now? Pick the path of least resistance i.e. the one that requires the fewest transfers.

They both require the same amount of transfers which will include a -4 hit. Taylor to Cancelo is happening this week regardless. The week after I do either KDB + Bamford > Kane + Gundo or KDB + Vardy > Son + Kane

              I'd go A.

I like Gundo for a few weeks.

Keeping Vardy is good for 3 weeks. After that you can switch to Ings if they get that DGW in 23.

I'm going for defence against Newcastle and Leeds, was thinking 2 week punt on Digne but actually thinking Keane now. They've looked better defensively lately and Leeds are woeful at defending setpieces so really probably either are decent options

Salah's non penalty xG per 90 minutes is only 0.36 this season. It was quite inevitable that when penalties dry up he's not gonna score many points in FPL. And yet somehow I ended up with him and even captained him in the double GW.

    Fabianski (Johnstone)
    Dias, Cancelo, Justin, Chilwell, Dallas
    Salah, Grealish, Fernandes, Soucek, Lookman
    Bamford, Vardy, Antonio

What do you think about the following plan? (2,3ITB)
    GW20 - Save
    GW21 - Grealish+Chilwell->Son+Mitchell
    GW22 - Vardy->Kane

Downgrades defence and lets me have Son for Brighton game and Son+Kane for WBA.

Gundogan looks like a great pick, but question seems to be which 3 players to choose from Man City? I think I would rather have 2 defenders so that leaves one place for either KDB or Gundogan. Tough decision. KDB is pretty safe and quite predictible player among the premium options with steady returns so I guess I would rather have him. On the other hand if you compare for example Gundogan + Kane vs KDB + 6m ish forward it's quite close.

We don't know with certainty how long KDB will be out for. Given that he will likely miss most of the good City fixtures in the close future, I am more inclined to say Gundo + Kane is the way to go.

I'd take the hit. It's one less move you have to make in the following weeks and it gives you money to buy Kane or Vardy in 21.

That Kane game v Brighton is very appealing. Annoyingly for me I want to hold Bamford and Watkins, so would be Brewster to Kane, which requires an additional 0.5 I can get from defence but would be another -4 again next week....

What are Watkins recent returns like?

I think he looks promising but is he scoring frequently enough for now?

Poor - hasn't scored since GW8! Though with Barkley back, fixtures, price point, and future doubles, I think he is worth holding.

Game week 15 and 11 points at Palace.

He could streak but equally Villa could drop off too.

Watkins has had three hauls, one 7 pointer and 12 blanks in total.

4 decent scores all season so far.

            Not for me.

Which is basically what I'm doing.

I think I'm going to take -8 this week. Next week Davis > Kane and then I'm all set for a while. Roll FT in 22 and then I'll have 2 FTs in 23 for a potential DGW.

              Zouma > Mitchell
              James > Cancelo
              KdB > Gundo

              Next week Davis > Kane.

Which area of the Members stats do you find yourself spending most time in?

For me- 1) Comparison Tools 2) Team Stats 3) RMT- More for fun as I don't think it's terribly useful

      1. Comparison Tool
      2. My own stat table I built. It basically tracks attacking threat and I filter by price and by timeframe.
      3. Match data. Even though I watch basically every game now, I still want to cross-check to see if the eye test matches the underlying data.

      That's basically all I use.

I've never used any of it.

But when you listen to what those in the top 100 use they say expected goals, fixtures and patience!

I know you do really well too.

      Stats tables, particularly:

      - Minutes per XGI / XGI per 90
      - Calculate my own non-penalty XGI/90 then adding around 0.15 for penalty takers based on season data so far

Mainly I just geek around, but I think it's generally useful.

Highly unlikely he gets another yellow. Most of his yellows have come from arguing with ref, so if he keeps a lid on things he will be ok! Easier to do knowing he misses a game if he argues...

But Mahrez or Sterling could step up or B. Silva into that role or Jesus.

A -8 is a bad way of looking at it. It will be a -4 with the other move also being a -4.

Think of it that way. Only a -8 if you're switching bench players, which wouldn't be worth it.

Now that KDB is injured I think I'll get Gundogan in and use the extra funds to bring in Vardy, moving to a 343.

Thay would give me a forward line of Kane Vardy Bamford..... too top heavy?

Exactly what I am leaning towards. I don't think it is too top heavy. Works well for 21 to have both Kane and Vardy. You can then downgrade Vardy and get Son (if you don't have him already) for 23
