What effect will Ross Barkley’s return have on Villa’s attacking assets?

Aston Villa’s first Premier League match back since their first-team squad was forced to isolate due to a COVID outbreak saw Ross Barkley (£5.9m) return to their midfield.

Barkley took the place of Anwar El Ghazi (£5.8m), with Jack Grealish (£7.7m) moving out into a wide position.

After a strong showing against Manchester City in Gameweek 19, the former Chelsea player looks to have slotted back into the side with ease.

But with so many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers owning Villa assets like Grealish and Ollie Watkins (£6.1m), how will this affect their points potential?

As this article uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

After deliberating and going over the KDB conundrum as you all have been for the last couple of days, I've decided to go template on my transfers and slightly maverick on my captain choice

    After KDB+Robbo > Gundo+Cancelo-4

    McCarthy (Johnstone)
    (C)ancelo, Stones, Coufal (Dallas, Pieters)
    Salah, Gundo, Soucek, Bruno (Lookman)
    Vardy, Bamford, Antonio

and with 7.8 itb, I'm likely gonna be doing Soucek to Son for GW 21

    Sound moves?

Heh I have the captaincy on Dias myself at the minute, both players attract bps and I don't think there'll be a lot of goals in this game

almost what I'd like to hear...but for me he is an ultra captain differential, passes the eyetest and cs is almost banked...additionally if you check the kings of the week for the past 8 gws, only 1 has not been a defender!

Good arguments for Cancelo cap pick. He is very close for a haul. I want to stick to a premium cap pick this season but may change my mind. Currently on Bruno

Think Bruno will be an even more risky pick.
10 seconds of rest against Fulham. If he plays 90 against Liverpool then SHU makes the perfekt game for a rest

Or you can look at OGS last remarks on Bruno rest so I wouldn't say it's a more risky pick than Cancelo

OGS says Bruno Fernandes doesn't need rest: "Not tired, no chance. Is one of the players who covers ground in every game. Very good at recovering+ recharging his batteries. If he had scored with free-kick on Sun he would have been lauded as best player in PL. Has been immense"

Hmmmm - Bruno the overwhelming favourite for captaincy with KDB out and with the Liverpool/Spurs game negating those options. Bruno will be well over 130% EO but as long as we both own him he can’t hurt too much. Might actually do this.

The kind of edge that I need- I'm sitting a shade under 100 points behind my money league leader. Having a really poor season for my standards (Normally I'm well within 100k at this stage, but I'm sitting on 497k) and in past seasons my differential captaincies mixed backed by eye tests and data have allowed me to win my leagues.

            Good luck!

    A) Raphinha > Gundo -4 (got 2 city DEF)
    B) Raphinha > Pogba -4 (got Bruno)
    C) Bench Raph and play Soucek

Play Raph (A vs New) and bench Soucek

"Michail Antonio’s impact on the output of West Ham midfielders:

All five of Jarrod Bowen’s goals have come in the nine matches Antonio has started.

All five of Tomas Soucek’s goals have come in the 10 matches Antonio hasn’t started."

Seems I've only taken 2 hits so far this season(I'm doing rubbish btw).
Is that really low? As we're half way through season would equate to 4 or 5 for full season.
How many have the rest or you taken?

    1. aleksaa2
      • 7 Years

It's about what your team needs at the moment. This season I took more hits becuase of RCs and injuries. It's relative and team dependable

    2. rubberdignerapids
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

That is quite a disciplined hit counter

I've played way more aggressively than usual and have made 34 total transfers (18 hits) this season which has afforded me a very mediocre 497k rank

Typically I rank well within 100k at this stage, so perhaps this overly aggressive tactic is backfiring

Planning to take another hit this week as if I haven't learnt my lesson and I'm hoping to find some edge...

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years

I've taken less so far this season than usual as I used to be dreadful for them, but looking back on some previous weeks I've actually been pretty aggressive with transfers and hits at times but most of them have paid off luckily

Last 2 games when KDB wasn't starting for City.

Foden had one G and A.
Cancelo one A. His only one so far.
    Sterling one G.

    If that means anything...

How did Gundo play in those two games? (if he played)

      1. The Train Driver
        • 8 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

He played the 2nd one as a midfielder in a 4-3-3.

The first one he was out in a 3-1-4-2. Cancelo played as a mid then. Sterling forward with Kun.

Wouldn't read too much into it since his role has changed since then and he is plying much better.

        1. Tonyawesome69

I'm not convinced with Gundo as my KDB replacement yet. Great stats with KDB but don't know how his role will change with no KDB in the team. May just go with Son and stick with 2 City def (Stones and Cancelo)

I got Gundo in, you're right, it's hard to predict his role with KDB out, but this one is a risk I'm willing to take. Could be a hattrick or a switch of formation with Gundo benched. Will be exciting to see

    KDB ABSENCE
Just wondering if there’s any easily accessible stats over 1-2.5 seasons of Sterling’s stats with abs without KDB in the team? Thanks - can’t help but feel Gundogan may have had his time in the sun as a result of attentiveness to KDB

    1. rubberdignerapids
      • 4 Years

Gundogan offers tremendous value for a nailedish starter (whatever that means in pep roulette) and should enable you to make moves for Spurs players in the upcoming weeks (or other premium assets)

For me he is far more worth the gamble than a Sterling who looks out of sorts regardless of now KDB being out of the picture

Saw it yesterday, Wulfranian I think posted a comment about City without KDB. They are 2W 4L 1D and their (Sterling, Cancelo and Jesus) production has only been good in the last two games.

Okay brilliant - thanks a lot! Hard one to call isn’t it, Gundogan has been fantastic but will teams look to nullify him more now, especially with KDB potentially out? Almost considering going to Pogba/Grealish and upgrading to triple City def with Cancelo 😀

I am going with Gundogan, people forget that he is 5.5. They are expecting returns from him like he is a 15.0m player. He is also a great enabler for Spurs assets or some other premium options.

Got Kane, Bruno, Salah abs planning to downgrade bench in time for Saka/Soucek to Son for WBA so really need a strong captain choice.15 goals in four previous seasons suggests this run is anomalous imho but time will tell.

2018/19 KDB was injured the majority of the season, Sterling had 17goals+15assits.

I don't have the exact stats, however, I already brought him for KDB. Gundogan will stop this soon, he is just not that player, this reminds me of the amazing start of Capoue a few seasons back, it simply isn't maintainable.. yes, penalties will be a boost, however, it is the ceiling that makes the difference in the end, if balanced nicely 7-8 points can be gained all over the place, 10+ is what you are searching for..

Yeah agree - Gundog in now seems like chasing points and his seasonal output isn’t so high. Ceiling point is pertinent - I’ve got KDB pencilled in as captain v SHU and I don’t think I’d be so comfortable with Gundogan as captain as Sterling. Think I’ll join you on that transfer soon and hopefully scoring will revert to the norm! Cheers

So, lads, who should I replace KDB with considering the following lot?

    Martínez / McCarthy
    Dias / Stones / Cresswell / Saïss /  Dallas
    Salah / KDB / Bruno / Grealish / Soucek
    Antonio / Watkins / Bamford

Rash? Maddison? Gündogan? Foden? Any one of these stand out or is it pretty much a toss-up?

Hi all, what do you think of this wildcard proposal
Guita 4.0 ( has really good fixtures)
    Cancelo, Stones, Justin, James, Targett
Sterling, Bruno, Maddison, Grealish, Saka (need gd sub for Ings/Ant)
    Kane Ings Antonio
    Leaves just 0.1 itb

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

I prefer Martinez + Sanchez to Guaita + 4.0, then Mitchell (3.9 now) over Targett... And start Mitchell for his easy games

      Have you seen Chelsea defend?

Son over Ings for me, with Stephens (DGW incoming) over Reece. Saka goes down to Brewster/Davis in a 3-5-2

      1. Ze_Austin
        • 5 Years

Ings + Antonio feels too risky on a wildcard. If they had more reliable hamstrings or you're okay with the risk or you can't afford to switch to Son via the other changes I said here, that's fine. Ings should come good

I have Dallas, Bamford and Wilson. No plans to keep Wilson for too long. Thinking of starting Wilson and Bamford, neither team great defensively but Newcastle more capable of dogged parking of the bus. It's a few days away but would like advice.

I'd do the same and then ship Wilson probably forever

        🙂 🙂 🙂

One transfer at a time, sweet Jesus, as the great fantasy football player Tammy Wynette used to sing. Zouma to Dias first. There'll be plenty of hits this GW as BB squads, plus Dé Bruyne, plus Salah form are hastily reassembled into a good 11.. Avoiding them could be as good as a good transfer.

Pretty much set on this WC team. Thoughts?

    Martinez (Areola)
    Chilwell Cancelo Stones (Coufal Mitchell)
    Salah Bruno Maddison Grealish Gundogan
    Kane Antonio (Brewster)

That's a template starting 11 if I've seen one (after this week's games), but looks good to me

Nice team, not fond of two playing keepers, but too early to wildcard.

Those of you moving KDB out, are you pulling the trigger now?

    Or waiting a little bit..

Next GW doesn't start for 4 days, anything could happen in that time especially with FA Cup fixtures this weekend

I'll be waiting for a bit more info from Pep, even if he ends up telling us nothing! Thankfully, we'll get two press conferences between now and the GW20 deadline because of the FA Cup so, like a Double Gameweek, at least that's two shots at something useful rather than one

    A) KDB > Grealish/Maddison for free?
    B) Add Robbo > Cancelo/Stones for a hit as well?
    C) Just play Saka and save FT?

    Martinez (Johnstone)
    Robbo Dias Coufal (Lowton Holding)
    KDB* Bruno Son Gundogan (Saka)
    Vardy Bamford Antonio

    1. rubberdignerapids

Gundo on penalties with KDB out but who's on corners? Foden on the left if he's playing, but who else?

Have the exact funds for this, cost of -4pts
    Vardy to Kane
    Soucek to Gundogan

    Worth doing?
    Thanks

I wouldn't transfer out Vardy this week- his away record is tremendous and although Liverpool have terrible form atm, I don't think replacing him with Kane this week for a hit will pay off even if it enables Soucek to Gundo.

      Surely you have another route?

I'm holding Vardy for now purely because three of his next four are away from home. 13 attacking returns in 7 away matches this season is crazy. 68% of his goal involvements for the whole season!

Think I will hold Vardy for now but bring in Gundogan for Soucek

Is Foden being overlooked with the train rush for Gundo?
KDB not in squad will surely pull him back to more defensive duties.

Rodrigo can look after that and Gundogan will still do the defensive stuff. Fernandinho's is still good for a few games. Hoping you're right on Foden, I'm keeping him.

It's the pens that sway it for ppl on here and given how attacking city are in the box, you know how it goes...

Probably, guess don't like to be surprised by not starting? And Gundo price sways many to enable Vardy/Kane onboarding.

Gundo nailed to start and on pens but not sure how is role will change with no KDB. You could be right and he will play more defensively. I'm sure I read somewhere his role previously was his preferred role.

Robertson to Dias/Cancelo for free and bank the change seems the best use of the FT here?

    1 FT 0 ITB

    McCarthy (Johnstone)
    Robbo Justin Coufal Stones (Lowton)
    Salah Bruno Son Raphinha (Soucek)
    Vardy Bamford (Adams)
