Fit-again Vardy only a substitute as injured Podence and Boly miss out

Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) makes his return from hernia surgery this afternoon but the Leicester City striker is only among the substitutes for the Foxes’ clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Kick-off at Molineux is at 14:00 GMT.

Brendan Rodgers again trusts Kelechi Iheanacho (£5.6m) to lead the line in the West Midlands and has indeed named an unchanged side from the one that defeated Fulham in midweek.

As for Wolves, Nuno Espirito Santo hinted at injury problems in Friday’s press conference and has made a pair of enforced alterations to his starting XI.

Willy Boly (£5.4m) and Daniel Podence (£5.3m) miss out with hamstring and adductor problems respectively and are replaced by Jonny (£5.4m) and Leander Dendoncker (£4.6m).

This will be Jonny’s first appearance since suffering an injury in August and his return at left-back, coupled with Boly’s absence, means that Max Kilman (£4.0m) moves over to his more favoured centre-half position.

Romain Saiss (£4.9m) is also back from injury but is only among the substitutes.

FPL’s most-popular defender starts in this fixture: James Justin (£5.2m) features in almost 30% of Fantasy squads, with his ownership figure further swelled by a 15-point haul in Gameweek 22.

Both he and James Maddison (£7.4m) were transferred in by over 200,000 FPL managers ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

Justin also has the highest effective ownership among defenders in the top 10,000 Fantasy squads.

Wolves XI: Patricio, Semedo, Kilman, Coady, Jonny, Neves, Moutinho, Dendoncker, Neto, Willian José, Traoré.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Justin, Soyuncu, Evans, Pereira, Choudhury, Perez, Maddison, Tielemans, Barnes, Iheanacho.

I increasingly think effective ownership is literally the only thing that matters in this game. Preventing points against you first and foremost.

You might think you have some insights, analysis or hunches that nobody else does, but at the end of the day, the market is always right. It's like investing in a tracker fund. Let everyone else do the work for you, if you get a few lucky breaks with captaincy you'll be top 1K, and that's all there is to it.

Pretty much correct. Nowadays ot requires hell a lot more luck since there are more players playing like tracker funds = more goodish players.

It's really quite sad, because whereas a few years ago there were genuine gains to be made by spending time on analysis and so on, now it really isn't the case. It's less fun.

It also means that most of the Patreon/Podcast crowd are absolutely full of it when they preach anything other than a simple, pragmatic approach. They will eventually regress to the mean (like LR this season) if they pursue this; others, like Fabio, are much simpler and steadier.

The point he is making is that the highest owned players are the players who will score the most points / have highest expected points

So going against it won’t work in the long run

I agree with your investment comparison to an extent, but to carry on the analogy ‘past performance doesn’t guarantee future results’.

If your tracked nothing but large managed offices at the moment, you’d likely change them for something else...

Oh yes absolutely. I think the crowd are much more flexible now though. Good example is Antonio - ownership hugely spiked before any returns. Same with DCL recently.

This has been a big factor too, the general playerbase has shown itself to be much better as time went on. Antonio the best example.

I guess it is - like much of the world, but in a rather niche area - down to democratisation of information, no more ivory towers and so on.

It's why I never use the word 'casual' because I think it's a misnomer or, if anything, a compliment. If we call someone a casual we're probably admitting they get the same results for less effort.

I like your thinking. a big part of it is probability playing out. With 7-8 million players that is our biggest opponent I think - the time spent looking at stats will beat most, but sheer force of numbers and means not all.

Yes fair point, our benchmarks for success here (top 10K, top 1K, previous finishes from years ago) are harder to obtain than ever before.

Yep I think that’s it, the edges the insight and numbers give us are still there, but just lessened and we should factor that into what is a good season. I think 10k is now great and top 100k is decent (each year rather than a one off)

Exactly and the spoon feeding on here / Twitter means that anyone with half a brain who spends 10 mins a week can get a template team

Honestly I think you could spend 20 mins on FPL a week, look on here / Twitter for template, captain the poll leader and you’d easily finish top 100k (if not a lot higher)

I sometimes wonder why we bother spending the time

At the end of the day, I still enjoy it, but I think it's at the point where I have to accept that any time spent looking at stats is done purely for interest rather than any expectation of improved returns.

Yes. The big differentiator is (c). If you got the template and pick the (c) correctly every GW, you will probably win FPL.

The price change system is just fundamentally broken for the amount of information sharing that occurs. When a bandwagon decides to move from player A to player B, there's no punishment for owning player A the previous week, yet you get the reward for moving in player B.

Yes Ownership matters, but at the end of the day you need players who gets most points. The reason why the players have ownership is because they've done well and are thus, more likely to get more points in the future GWs. The sad thing for us is our "differentials" aren't doing better than those "template" players more often than now.

For example, Shaw/Justin/Mee (to get in) was a decision many managers have to make this GW. I got in Mee. He got 1. Shaw got 3. The manager who wen't for these were hoping that they would score more over Justin over the next few GWs. But Justin's 9 pointer has given all the managers who already had him a decent lead.

Ben Crellin fixture predictions show that Everton will likely have a DGW in 26 and another DGW in 25/27/28.

Would you still look to sell them after the double, to accommodate the likes of Son, Kane or Vardy?

If they win in the cup, they might have 2 over the 4 GWs. Otherwise, it might be one.

Spurs have a fixture in hand as well. So, might do for Kane/Son for sure. TC candidates in GW26 if you are not BBing.

Yeah they have the Villa game to be rearranged as well, right? So, if they reach the FA Cup QF. They'll have 2 games which could go in either of those 4 GWs. One would probably be in GW26 and one maybe in 27/28. 25 as wll maybe, but Ben says it's unlikely that any game gets added to that GW.

One of my biggest FPL regrets is buying Vinagre at the beginning of the season instead on Justin...

Vinagre was considered to be the messiah around these parts back then, so I don't blame you

Would you rather Gundogan or Grealish for the next 3/4 gameweeks?

Exactly! He had a rough patch for 3-4 GWs. Great the rest of the season.

So I have WC, BB and TC left. What's the optimum time to use WC to get a good BB for DGW?

I am doing WC in 25 and BB in 26

It all depends on your team. There is further need for wild card if you can hold it.

No such thing as a template approach to chip use.

I can’t afford not to deploy it later than 25 for me, rank is too high

Game week 29 a free hit or wild card will be handy.

Why? I dunno how people can look past wildcarding for the biggest DGW of the season in 26 tbh

seems like a waste of 2 transfer to just keep Hamez for 1 week? I know he has a double but one of them is City, Raphina could hurt Arsenal i think

Klopp has completely lost the plot.
Henderson again in the back and a midfield that will be completely overrun by City. This will be the end of the season for every Liverpool fan.

At least that’s the end of the Justin pain (sort of) for a couple of weeks with most people owning lots of Liverpool and villa assets

Yet again my bench almost outscores my team. DCL, Justin and Coufal. I have good depth at least.
