Chilwell returns to Chelsea XI as Tuchel explains Alonso and Hudson-Odoi benchings

Chelsea will be aiming to make it four clean sheets in as many matches under their new manager when they face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this evening.

Kick-off in the last of four Premier League fixtures to take place on a busy Sunday is at 19:15 GMT.

The Blues are unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel but the German hasn’t kept an unchanged starting XI in any of his four matches in charge and tinkers with his line-up again this evening.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is one casualty, dropping to the bench and losing his ever-present starter status under Tuchel.

Olivier Giroud is recalled and will be supported by Mason Mount and Timo Werner in the three-man Chelsea attack.

Marcos Alonso also makes way, with Ben Chilwell recalled.

Tuchel explained those two changes ahead of kick-off:

For Marcos, it was no need to take the risk to let him play three in a row in 10 days after a long pause in competition for him. So, there was the choice of Chilly. It was the same reason for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The German’s final alteration was an enforced one, with Andreas Christensen stepping in to replace the injured Thiago Silva.

Chris Wilder has gone one better than the man in the opposition dugout, making four changes to his line-up.

Kean Bryan and Max Lowe replace the ineligible Ethan Ampadu and the injured George Baldock in Wilder’s two enforced tweaks.

And the regular rotation continues up top, with Oliver Burke and Ollie McBurnie ousting David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp from the front two.

Sheffield United XI: Ramsdale, Basham, Egan, Bryan, Lowe, Lundstram, Norwood, Fleck, Bogle, Burke, McBurnie.

Chelsea XI: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, James, Jorginho, Kovacic, Chilwell, Mount, Giroud, Werner.

Will wait for FA Cup games, but thinking of using 2FT on Robbo & Mitchell to Cancelo & Mee. Leaves me with the below:

    Martinez
    Cancelo Dias Coufal Mee
    Gundo Salah Bruno Grealish
    Antonio Bamford

    (Forster Son KWP Brewster)

1 FT 0.1M ITB. Good to save FT?

Going to bench boost in 26. Antonio > Bamford the obvious move next week. Any thoughts on who to replace Chilwell with and how to use the third FT before DGW26?

    Areola*
    Stones*, Mee*, Cancelo*
    Gundo* (C), Salah, Bruno, Grealish
    Watkins, Antonio, DCL* (VC)
    Martinez, Barnes, Justin, Chilwell

So picking chilwell, cancelo and soucek over dcl, coufal and justin probably my all time worst decision! I thought if chilwell plays clean sheet guaranteed. Rudiger with a ridiculous own goal just before chilwell subbed sums up my gameweek. Horrendous

That is brave benching Salah! Building a strong squad because of covid has caused too many benching headaches

You are being to hard on yourself. Sound thinkin and sometimes margins are not on your side. I would perhaps have played Justin over cancelo, but tight. I knew Liverpool would score though-) Justin was vert Lucky not to concede and soucek, well he misses one sitter and then Mason suddenly lost the concept of 'violent conduct' and Dean executed it

He played for the penalty well.

There was a covering defender and he ran around the wrong side of the keeper to win a dubious penalty. Well, he contrived it at least.

Yeah. I'd like to use it but this is the sort of thing that makes it useless.

I can ignore the bench suggestions, but it's rubbish.

Would you use a transfer to bring in a Burnley defender to play over one of these?

    Sanchez
    Coufal Cancelo Stones
    Son Salah Bruno Gundo
    Watkins Antonio DCL

Im thinking Burnley defenders will get 8 points max this week which many SGW players could match. Contemplating whether it'd be better to just prepare ahead and bring in a DGW 25 or 26 player

    GW20: Bruno = 2
    GW21: DCL = 2
    GW22: Salah = 2
    GW23: Grealish = 2

    Safe picks low score
    Punts low score too...

As someone with just BB + WC remaining, I do think it *could* pay off long term to BB24 and WC25 with 26/29 in mind. Obvs dependent on midweek results etc.

Would you consider this GW24 BB (no hits) of:

    Martinez (bha)
    KWP - if fit (WOL)
    Soucek (SHU)
    Watkins (bha)

    Pope
    Coufal Dias Stones Digne
    Salah Bruno Son Gundo
    DCL Antonio

Well we know Leeds double in 25 and don’t in 26. Also playing in 29. That’s the conundrum for me without Leeds atm.

Planning on just doing Barnes —> Lookman this GW after the FA Cup to get this team for 24.

    Areola
    Cancelo, Stones, Cresswell, Coufal
    Lookman, (G)undo, Salah, Penandes
    BobbyDR, Antonio

    Johnstone, BamBam, Son, AWB

Nervous about leaving those players on the bench but seems the strongest 11 I can put out.

Nervous about leaving out DCL but BobbyDR to DCL seems backwards for a -4, and don’t like any Everton mids.

    What people think?

I like it, but as you say I wouldn’t be happy with the bench, it’s going to be one those weeks for a many of us.

It’s going to be a nervy GW behind the Sofa cause that bench could easily score 20pts plus.

Hopefully Arsenals defence gets back on song, City keep another cleanie and West Brom somehow score lol.
