Rodgers offers Vardy fitness update as well-owned Justin hits century of FPL points

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Leicester City

Bonus Points: James Justin (£5.2m) x3, Max Kilman (£4.0m) x2. Rui Patricio (£5.3m) x1 Nelson Semedo (£5.2) x1 Jonny Evans (£5.5m) x1

James Justin‘s (£5.2m) ever-growing army of owners emerged the happiest from a drab encounter between Wolves and Leicester.

Just to prove how turgid the match was, it involved fewer shots on target (four) than players who received bonus points (five).

Four of those who received extra points were defenders. The other was home keeper Rui Patricio (£5.3m).

News Justin

Leicester full-back Justin has had a fine time of it over the last six matches, with four clean sheets, a goal and eight bonus points.

He backed up Gameweek 22’s season-best 15-point haul with a nine-pointer at Molineux – a pleasant welcome present for the 192,532 new managers who had pushed his ownership levels up to 29.7% before kick-off.

That consolidated his status as Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most popular defender, and only West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell (£5.7m) now has more points (106 v 101).

Justin contributed nothing going forward at Wolves – not a single shot taken, chance created or cross delivered as he spent his day reining in Adama Traore’s (£6.0m) forays down the Foxes’ left flank.

No Shot, Sherlock

Wolves worked Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel (£5.5m) just the once, albeit with the best chance of the game, when Fabio Silva (£5.2m) forced him into a fine save from close in.

That prompted manager Nuno Espirito Santo to indulge in a touch of criticism of his striker:

Fabio has to do better. He (Schmeichel) did a great save, it was a fantastic save, but he has to do better.

But there’s a reason why only four teams have a worse goalscoring record than Wolves (23), and it’s more to with the manager’s defensive instincts than Silva’s profligacy.

His intentions were there for all to see on Sunday, with Espirito Santo utilising a five-man defence that sat deep and wide to negate Leicester’s attacking threat.

It worked. All three of the visitors’ shots on target came from range and from James Maddison (£7.4m), but none went beyond glorified back pass status, handing Patricio one of the easiest save points of his FPL career.

Welcome Back Boys

Two players made returns at Molineux.

Jamie Vardy (£10.0m), who had lost more than a million managers since undergoing a hernia operation following a Gameweek 19 victory over Chelsea, was handed 29 minutes from the bench and very nearly won it late on.

He flashed a header narrowly wide – an opportunity not officially designated as a big chance, although it was certainly large enough.

But Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was more concerned with the minutes than the miss:

I’d love Jamie Vardy to play every minute of every game, but we can’t do that. Giving him half-hour was about right because he brings that movement. We can look to see if we can get some more game-time into him on Wednesday.

That would mean midweek FA Cup action at home to Brighton. Should he come through that unscathed, a visit from Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off could well mark his first start in five Gameweeks.

The striker is currently one of three Leicester players in the top 20 for transfers-in, although it should be mentioned that Vardy has not scored in the league since Gameweek 14’s win at Spurs just before Christmas.

Espirito Santo, meanwhile, gave wing-back Jonny (£5.4m) the first 45 minutes on his return from a serious knee injury:

It was decided by him, by us, by the medical staff, by the doctor that operated on him. With him returning, we have to be very careful. The decision was made before the game started. It was a decision based on our future, how we have to preserve a player like Jonny.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-2-1): Patricio; Kilman, Coady, Dendoncker; Jonny (Hoever 45), Neves, Moutinho, Semedo; Neto (Gibbs-White 88), A Traoré; Willian José (Fábio Silva 61).

Leicester City XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Justin, Soyuncu, Evans, R Pereira; Tielemans, Choudhury; Barnes, Maddison, Perez (Albrighton 61); Iheanacho (Vardy 61).

What would you prefer in my situation?
I have Meslier, Dallas and Bamford (c) to play. But I have Martinez and Gundo on the bench plus 2 points. Should I rub my magic lamp and get the game called off or have faith in Bamford captain and hope for a clean sheet? Was obviously silly to double up defensively this week.

    Good day.

People possibly looking to WC 25 and BB in 26 will have 3 players and maybe Ings/Adams in their team. That means having a bunch of single players in their team for 26. I think I read that Leeds wont have a double in 26.

Will you then keep those players on BB or use hits to set your team up for 26? That's why I'm finding it hard to WC in 25 even though we don't have the fixtures yet for 26. Unless I have missed something.

    Thanks.

meant to say will have 3 Leeds players.

I think the advantage is using wc early you can attack the fixtures more, however if you're like me and have BB and TC then it gets tricky as to what to do in 26.

I have all my chips aswell, unsure of what to do. Would like to use TC on Kane if he has a double in 26, and set up for team for 25 with free transfers. But then I have no idea what to do with bench boost.

True I am currently thinking of Triple captaining Gundo or Bruno this week and BB 26

Triple captaining Kane just seems too good to past, even in a Mou team. Good luck on whatever you decide!

If you WC in 26, you can't use BB too. It actually evens up as you get an extra fixture from each of your Leeds players already in 25 so you didn't actually lose out on the BB.

Think I'm still hurt from having faith in Leeds during the last double gameweek, and want as many players with a double game week in my team for 26.

I'm leaning towards just Bamford alone or double Leeds max, then on 26 I could just transfer one out for a DGWer. Saints should have back to back to back DGWs in a row but only Ings is an option there.

I'm on this strategy. Thinking Dallas, Raph, Bamford and Ings in on WC25. Take a hit to take out two of them for 26BB to get to 13DGWs

      1. Mika-eel
        • 6 Years

Makes sense then to either keep Bamford or Raph with this strategy, and still attack GW25. Possible going to do the same. Just hopefully we get the fixtures for 26 soon.

I don't think DCL is worth a hit but I was wrong about him this week as I benched him but it really contingent on what you want to do and what your chip strategy is. You can make a punt this GW if you wanted if you don't have to worry about keeping him if you WC25 or something

Cheers, it would be for free.......I don't really know what my chip strategy is yet (waiting for FA cup results)..........I could YOLO and get Pope and DCL for a hit...........but Martinez could outscore Pope with just one match......I'm not too keen on that move

Would you do Antonio>DCL for free?

I’ve got 1FT for this week which I’m going to use to bring a 3rd city player in.
Wildcarding in 25 so wanna play this week aggressively and bring in a 2nd attacker alongside Gundo.
    Would you choose

    A) Foden
    Or
    B) Sterling -4

No way I'd bench Antonio over Soucek. I don't care if he's scored a decent amount of goals this season, Antonio is the main man at WHam and will be heavily involved in WHam goals I would think.

I'd just bench Soucek and be happy you have a decent bench should someone get injured in warm-up or get a freak rest (I'm benching Bamford this week)

Regarding the Soucek rescinding, I don’t understand why his score wouldn’t be changed to 3. I can’t remember a specific situation, but I could swear there has been at least one precedent where a goal or assist decision has been altered while the game week was still ongoing, and then the players’ points altered accordingly. Can someone with a better memory confirm that for me? And if that has occurred, why would a red card being overturned within the same game week be any different?

Isn't there something in the rules about scores being final after 1hr beyond the end of the match. I'll have a look.

So, 1hr after the last match of that day.

"For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made"

To be honest I don't remember a player ever having his points changed retrospectively after the points were locked in.

But a Youtuber (maybe Andy?) mentioned that he had seen it happen once, but the points were changed on the same day as the game - again, this was just what I heard on the video.

I think it's totally unprecedented that someone has their score changed after the GW has finished... and I don't think that will EVER happen to be honest.

Interesting. They don’t even follow their own rule, at least not when it comes to BPS adjustments.

Not straightforward as it might appear to make a general rule. Say a defender gets red carded in 61st, later rescinded, after having kept a clean sheet, then his team concedes 4 goals in the last 35 minutes. How many points should he then be handed retrospectively?

      1. thegaffer82
        • 12 Years

The card would never be rescinded within an hour of the game finishing. So it's a moot point

No but my point is to illustrate why its a bit difficult to re-attribute points after possible rescinding of red card da ay or two after match

Every goal a team concedes after the player has a red card will count towards the total goal conceeded for that player

Because it wasn't overturned during the match? Do you want bookies demanding refunds off punter that had the overs on booking points. There has never been a precedent with cards being rescinded and point being reattributed back why do you think he'd get his three points back..

I'm sure previously there was a bigger window for points to change (before the gameweek ended) but now they are locked by the end of the day.

when Kane lied about touching that Eriksen cross, and the PL gave him the goal, the points didn't change.

I can see the logic of following the dubious goal panel changes.

But in football there is a rub of the green and today's justice means that Soucek isn't banned for 3 games on top of Saturday.

I think that's fine and it isn't worth worrying about 3 points.

Do some of you with WC, FH, T, and BB left consider navigating 24-28 without only using TC, then FH 29 and WC 30? and bench boost well.. between 30 and 38?

I have the feeling having the BB available can be a poison in disguise for the 24-28 period

    1. No Professionals

BB is always a tricky one. Even in the recent double, most people's BB score was distorted by selectively putting big hitters on bench.

I'll take Kane TC in 26 over BB.

I think WC in 30 will be useful to get rid of some MCI and TOT players who blank in 33.
City might have a bog lead by then in PL and focus in UCL for the reminder of the season which will make rotation difficult to anticipate

    3. thegaffer82

Nah, I think there's no need to keep on waiting to play your chips (I have all intact too).

There will come a time when you think to yourself... why have I got all my chips still and how the hell am I going to use them all in the best possible way?

      I'll probably WC25, BB26 & (potentially) FH29.

Then I'll have TC to use on a remaining DGW of my choice. And, we know that Villa (Grealish), Spurs (Kane/Son) & City (KDB, Gundy) are all owed DGW's so there'll be a chance in the future

    4. Kane and Ablett
      • 3 Years

BB and DGWs don’t always mix well, I’ve got 27 on my bench this week and had 12 players with a double in 19 and got less than 10 in BB, plus I ruined my squad for it. The chips are distracting froth as driven by chance as anything else in a single game week

        Agree.

It's a 38 week game and if one player is out for both games and you hadn't bench boosted then auto subs kick in to help in a double.

Also rotation applies and some will only play 1 of the 2, so i wouldn't build for it in particular, apply a couple of changes along the way.

  23. Eightball

Am I crazy to consider bench boosting this lot? I still have wildcard so originally I was going to WC 25 and BB 26 but i'm thinking maybe BB 24 with the below team and then WC in 26 with a view to having a good starting 11 for the big double but also setting up a little for the blank gameweek coming up in 29?

    Pope - Martinez
    Mee - Dias - Stones - Robertson - Coufal
    Soucek - Maddison - Gundogan - Salah - Fernandes
    DCL - Antonio - Bamford

Likely would do Robertson > Digne this week

So would have a bench of Martinez, Bamford, Soucek and Coufal. Feels like this could be a pretty decent BB

    1. Rococo
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 1 month ago

Yeah very similar team to you.

I'm either going to roll my transfer or take a -4 to do Steer and Mitchell to Pope and Lawton to BB.

My BB then would be Pope, Bamford, Coufal and Lawton.

Going to wait for more info on gwk. 26 fixtures and decide then.

Better than my proposed BB below that's for sure. The fact that WHam play Sheff Utd this week helps your BB case a lot!

    1. BB this coming GW- Forster/ Brew -> Pope, 6.9m striker (Barnes maybe or Watkins). -4. WC in 25.
    2. Save FT or just Forster-> Pope.

    Martinez.
    Cresswell, Stones, Cancelo, Mee, Digne.
    Salah, Gundogan, Fernandes.
    Antonio, DCL.
    Forster, Son, Soucek, Brewster,
1ft, 3.9m ITB. WC, BB left from the chips.

Thinking it may be a good time to BB and focus more long term with WC in 25.

    Forster > Pope & Mitchell > Holgate/Lowton (-4) and play a BB with:

    Martinez - Bamford, Lowton, Justin

It's pretty cr@p isn't it? But, having said that, I'll take the points it gets me and then I can WC in 25 and sort out my team structure.

If I BB in GW26 after WC in 25, then I'll be stuck with an imbalanced team for god knows how long after that...

    Hard decision!!

We won't know the DGW fixtures until before GW25 though. So, it's a case of deciding if a BB now is worth it and then I won't have to use my WC to load up on bench players for DGW26 (destabilising the setup of the team)

If I don't BB this week, then I'll use it in 25 to build a BB squad.

If I play BB this week, then I'm not committed to playing WC in GW25 any longer. I'll have a re-think in that scenario and maybe in DGW26 itself may be better for WC - or later than that...

Mee as he’s a little cheaper and has a similar goal threat to tark

Tark if you want to be different from the many bringing in mee, quids in if he gets a goal

Lowton for value, maybe best if you don’t have wc and have city/utd defence as you’ll bench him mostly after this week

Hi, below is my probable lineup for gw 24. Any changes needed between the starting 11 and bench?

    Martinez
    Coufal Dias Cancelo
    Salah Bruno Grealish Gundogan
    Antonio Bamford DCL

    McCarthy Son Dallas Mitchell
    1ft 1.2itb

    Should i:
