Rodgers offers Vardy fitness update as well-owned Justin hits century of FPL points

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Leicester City

Bonus Points: James Justin (£5.2m) x3, Max Kilman (£4.0m) x2. Rui Patricio (£5.3m) x1 Nelson Semedo (£5.2) x1 Jonny Evans (£5.5m) x1

James Justin‘s (£5.2m) ever-growing army of owners emerged the happiest from a drab encounter between Wolves and Leicester.

Just to prove how turgid the match was, it involved fewer shots on target (four) than players who received bonus points (five).

Four of those who received extra points were defenders. The other was home keeper Rui Patricio (£5.3m).

News Justin

Leicester full-back Justin has had a fine time of it over the last six matches, with four clean sheets, a goal and eight bonus points.

He backed up Gameweek 22’s season-best 15-point haul with a nine-pointer at Molineux – a pleasant welcome present for the 192,532 new managers who had pushed his ownership levels up to 29.7% before kick-off.

That consolidated his status as Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most popular defender, and only West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell (£5.7m) now has more points (106 v 101).

Justin contributed nothing going forward at Wolves – not a single shot taken, chance created or cross delivered as he spent his day reining in Adama Traore’s (£6.0m) forays down the Foxes’ left flank.

No Shot, Sherlock

Wolves worked Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel (£5.5m) just the once, albeit with the best chance of the game, when Fabio Silva (£5.2m) forced him into a fine save from close in.

That prompted manager Nuno Espirito Santo to indulge in a touch of criticism of his striker:

Fabio has to do better. He (Schmeichel) did a great save, it was a fantastic save, but he has to do better.

But there’s a reason why only four teams have a worse goalscoring record than Wolves (23), and it’s more to with the manager’s defensive instincts than Silva’s profligacy.

His intentions were there for all to see on Sunday, with Espirito Santo utilising a five-man defence that sat deep and wide to negate Leicester’s attacking threat.

It worked. All three of the visitors’ shots on target came from range and from James Maddison (£7.4m), but none went beyond glorified back pass status, handing Patricio one of the easiest save points of his FPL career.

Welcome Back Boys

Two players made returns at Molineux.

Jamie Vardy (£10.0m), who had lost more than a million managers since undergoing a hernia operation following a Gameweek 19 victory over Chelsea, was handed 29 minutes from the bench and very nearly won it late on.

He flashed a header narrowly wide – an opportunity not officially designated as a big chance, although it was certainly large enough.

But Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was more concerned with the minutes than the miss:

I’d love Jamie Vardy to play every minute of every game, but we can’t do that. Giving him half-hour was about right because he brings that movement. We can look to see if we can get some more game-time into him on Wednesday.

That would mean midweek FA Cup action at home to Brighton. Should he come through that unscathed, a visit from Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off could well mark his first start in five Gameweeks.

The striker is currently one of three Leicester players in the top 20 for transfers-in, although it should be mentioned that Vardy has not scored in the league since Gameweek 14’s win at Spurs just before Christmas.

Espirito Santo, meanwhile, gave wing-back Jonny (£5.4m) the first 45 minutes on his return from a serious knee injury:

It was decided by him, by us, by the medical staff, by the doctor that operated on him. With him returning, we have to be very careful. The decision was made before the game started. It was a decision based on our future, how we have to preserve a player like Jonny.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-2-1): Patricio; Kilman, Coady, Dendoncker; Jonny (Hoever 45), Neves, Moutinho, Semedo; Neto (Gibbs-White 88), A Traoré; Willian José (Fábio Silva 61).

Leicester City XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Justin, Soyuncu, Evans, R Pereira; Tielemans, Choudhury; Barnes, Maddison, Perez (Albrighton 61); Iheanacho (Vardy 61).

Suggestions on how to get Pope here? 2FT and 0.3m. Plan to BB26

    Martinez -- Forster
Cancelo • Digne • Stones --- Coufal Dallas
    Bruno • Salah • Gundo • Grealish • Rashford
    DCL • Antonio --- Bamford

    A: Thinking Grealish + Forster >> Raphinha + Pope
B: ignore Pope, rather do Coufal >> Lowton. Instead upgrade Forster > Mccarthy in dgw25.

    Best Dier replacement?

Was thinking of Dallas with double GW in mind since I have a spare transfer to use & he probably won't play this week anyway.

Current defence; Dias - Cancelo - Digne - Coufal.

i'm planning the exact same (maybe 3 Leeds, JWP, + Ings for GW25). Can I ask though, what are your plans for chips? Cos I have WC, BB, TC left and wondering if I should WC 25 with a BB26 in mind - but then I kinda lose the opportunity of having 3 Leeds and JWP/Ings doubles in 25 with no hits. I'll lose it since obviously if I'm planning a BB26 I'll probably have 0 Leeds and no SOU since there'll be better options for a BB26

Sorry for the late reply. I’m in the same boat. I have all the chips and it’s my quandary. So I’m going with it maybe WC in 26 to get the 11 best I can for the doubles and beyond but with a decent bench and probably BB in a smaller GW later in the season a TC when City, Spurs or Utd have a double later on in the season too. Once these FA cups games are gone and the blanks are confirmed I decide what to do. Oh and for once I’m doing transfers as late as possible. My TV is good enough to ride out a couple of price changes.

I can justify it. Once a match has finished we are not going to reprogram the whole game just to give a few points back to those who were unlucky. How about that? 😀

I think you need to make a stronger case.

It would create all sorts of precedent which in my view would ruin the game. There's enough arguing about rules, in FPL I mean.

Take the rough with the smooth and his 3 match ban has gone. That's okay.

Arguably when there's a Monday game so the site is recalculating the GW anyway it might not be a problem . . .but decisions are often later than that which would mean rejigging the site at an odd time.

If Spurs have a DGW of BUR SOU in 26, how badly are you willing to change your team to get Kane in?

For me, I would have to sacrifice Salah or Fernandes. Which would you get rid of?

    A) Fernandes (If they lose to West Ham in the cup, he will have SGW che + mci in GW26/27) Fixtures would be abysmal over the short term.

    B) Salah (Liverpool are in awful form. He's the most expensive player in the game. Problem is, GW26/27 brings shu/CHE + FUL.)

    A decision I won't want to make come GW26...

I'd read, i think from Ben Crellin himself that Spurs can only double when they are knocked out of the Europa league.

      Someone could easily check fixtures.

I think a 2 game week time frame is more valuable at the moment.

I have already contemplated on this. Considering Salah + DCL to Son + Kane provided Pool don't have a double themselves. Intent is to ride it out until 30 when I potentially WC and get Salah back in if it is worth it at the time. If Pool do have a double though, I think I will go without Kane

What happens if they beat WHam in the cup though? Since you'd have to favor United even though West Ham been impressive this season. That aside, I'd probably still say lose Fernandez with Salah's fixtures, even out of form - he's not going to stay that way and still scores

There are idiots everywhere, high profile football-related individuals receive death threats, racist abuse, you name it, all the time, every day.

This is just the FA dodging a public acknowledgement of their collective incompetence by actively removing MD from his duties this weekend, which they should've done after the Bednarek blunder last week.

Make no mistake, the FA have chopped him for the weekend. Easier to blame abuse and death threats.

    2ft 6.3 it
Thinking Adams to Ings this week as no issues with team, to set up for double. Can't see anything else really.

Same. Have a strong bench, I think am going for:

      DGW24 - BB
      DGW25 - WC (With x3 Leeds & x2 Soton)
      DGW26 - TC (Bench x3 Leeds & X1 Soton)
27-29 - More transfers got BGW29 (no FH)

The alternative which presumably most people are doing is WC25, BB26. I prefer the above as it should yield more points in 24, 25 and 29 (maybe even 26 if I pick the right TC 😉 )

I thought to WC 25 and BB26 but I have 3 Leeds and can have 2 Sou (with 0 hits taken) for DGW25 - so would it be stupid to 'waste' that since if I'm making a BB26 team with my WC i'd remove Leeds and SOU.

But I dunno if there'll be a better opp to WC and BB?

Anyone tempted to captain Bruno (with Pogba out) against WBA away vs 2 "difficult" fixtures for City? Most players might not even play both games.

Gundogan for me. City seem to play without a striker in tougher games and that’s where Gundo comes to life. Spurs and Everton seem ideal in that regard. Nailed for both too

city just won 4-1 against the most 'difficult' fixture of their season and have won about 10x in a row - fixtures couldn't be less relevant

True. But Jose and Ancelotti are much better at setting their teams to defend and hit on the break. Liverpool away was probalby the most difficult fixture at the start of the season. They've been awful at home in 2021. Wasn't that tough a fixture. But, yeah City are a different beast right now. But I think if there's one man capable of stopping them it's Jose.

Not in terms of winning the league of course. Just breaking their winning run.

yeah i see your perspective, but honestly i think not capping a DGW city player right now is not a clever risk - it's a foolish one

How much do people value bench boost? The average in DGW19 was under 20. If you factor in hits required to get that bench and then get rid of it aswell as having 1 less big hitter in your team your surely looking at a true value of under 10?

Looking at my bench for next week - Martinez, Coufal, Dallas, Bamford should come in with around 20 pts and no hits required. Loads of money itb too so I think I’d be stupid not to bench boost. Plus TC Kane in 26 looks juicy

    £3.2M ITB
    2 FT

    Meslier
    Rudiger Dias (C) Cancelo
    Son Bruno (VC) Salah Lookman
    DCL Bamford Antonio

    Johnstone Raphinha Coufal Dawson

Which moves would you advise, to attack DGWs obvious moves seem:

    Johnstone + Lookman-> Pope + Gundogan

However, my current thinking is to dead end my team till GW29 and WC in GW30 meaning that i want my transfers to target GW24-29. This means that my main targets are triple Aston Villa (Martinez, Watkins and Grealish) which have further DGWs to be rescheduled and a very good fixture run and one of KDB / Kane for TC in an upcoming DGW, meaning that Gundogan would probably be only a short term move if i opt for KDB...

Therefore my current thinking for the transfers till GW26 is:

    GW24
    Johnstone -> Martinez

    GW25
Antonio / DCL (pending on DGW26 schedule) -> Adams

    GW26
    Antonio / DCL / Bamford + Bruno + Lookman (pending on DGW26 schedule) -> Watkins + KDB + Grealish (-4)

Please let me know your thoughts guys!

Probably your best move tbf. Not 100% sold on Ederson as an option due to no save points/bonus, but at least he is nailed on to start all games if fit.
