Penalty-taking Jorginho a mainstay of Tuchel’s Chelsea as rotation bites elsewhere

Sheffield United 1-2 Chelsea

  • Goals: Antonio Rudiger (£4.6m) own-goal | Mason Mount (£6.8m), Jorginho (£4.7m)
  • Assists: Oliver Burke (£4.3m) | Timo Werner (£9.2m) x2
  • Bonus: Jorginho x3, Werner x2, Mount x1

Chelsea made it four games unbeaten under their new head coach, grinding out a 2-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United on Sunday.

Midfielders Mason Mount (£6.8m) and Jorginho (£4.7m) were on target for Thomas Tuchel’s troops, with Timo Werner (£9.2m) banking his seventh and eighth assists of the campaign with contributions for both goals.

No opposition player has yet scored against the Blues since the change of manager, although Antonio Rudiger (£4.6m) did ruin a fourth consecutive clean sheet with an own-goal worthy of inclusion on a Danny Baker-fronted gaffe compilation video.

ROTATIONSRISIKO

Pinning Thomas Tuchel down to a regular starting XI may prove to be a tricky task, at least in the attacking positions.

The German has favoured a solid spine since his appointment, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy (£5.1m), centre-backs Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.7m) and Rudiger and ‘numbers sixes’ Jorginho (£4.7m) and Mateo Kovacic (£5.3m) all ever-presents.

Had veteran stopper Thiago Silva (£5.6m) not missed out in Gameweek 23 because of injury, he too would probably have joined that elite club.

As for the rest, it’s been something of a crapshoot up to now.

No attacking midfielder, forward or wing-back has started all four games, with Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.7m) losing his own ever-present starter status on Sunday.

Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) also dropped to the bench, with Ben Chilwell (£5.9m) recalled.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, Tuchel explained:

For Marcos, it was no need to take the risk to let him play three in a row in 10 days after a long pause in competition for him. So, there was the choice of Chilly. It was the same reason for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Gameweeks return to their weekly frequency now and Tuchel may be gradually working out what his best XI is but with the Blues still involved the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League, the rotation may continue to plague Chelsea assets going forward.

PAYING (VERY LITTLE) FOR THE PENALTY

Having been given the nod to step up from the spot against Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 22, Jorginho was at it again at Bramall Lane at the weekend.

Having missed two of the five penalties he took under Frank Lampard and relinquishing not only spot-kick duties but a regular starting role, the Italian now seems to be back in favour on both fronts.

Werner certainly doesn’t look to be challenging to take penalties for the time being, saying after the game:

Available for £4.7m, Jorginho is perhaps now once again the pick of the sub-£5.0m budget midfield options in FPL.

#10 DREAM

The goals continue to elude Werner and Fantasy managers will likely still give him a wide berth for the time being.

But there is a sign that Tuchel’s system will be a better fit for him than the one he operated in under Frank Lampard, with his role as a ‘left-sided number 10’ suiting his skillset better than centre-forward or out-and-out winger.

The average position map below shows Werner (11) and Mount (19) pushing on well beyond Giroud (18) and it was from two of the German’s runs that both Chelsea goals came about.

Werner said of his new role:

He gives us a lot of ideas. Now I play as a left number 10, not a left winger, so I have more space for my runs in the middle and can play behind a striker, or with a number 10 behind me as a second striker. So it’s very good for me and I think there were also good moves from the manager in the last two wins.

While it remains to be seen how much of a permanent fixture Werner will become in his new manager’s side, Tuchel’s comments last week did seem to suggest that Chelsea would be playing to his strengths:

I would say he prefers to have space, because he’s super-fast and he likes to play in the last line, very, very high up – but a little more to the left, half-open to the goal and to receive balls into open space.

Can we develop movements, patterns, behaviour to use his quality in narrow spaces? That’s my job and I’m absolutely convinced we can – because the guy is open, the guy is friendly and the guy is eager to learn.

WERNER HERZ LEG

FPL Gameweek 9 team news so far: Updates on Pulisic, Chilwell, Havertz and more

Chelsea were without injury victim Thiago and Christian Pulisic (£8.2m) at the weekend, with Tuchel providing an update after full-time:

Christian [Pulisic] has some family issues to solve, and family is always first, so we decided to give him a rest for this game.

[Thiago] will be for sure out for the FA Cup. It will take several days but we set the goal, Southampton is maybe realistic but very ambitious. With a muscle injury you cannot take any risks, so when it’s healed it’s healed.

Werner meanwhile was substituted with a knock to his leg, with Tuchel explaining:

It’s just a dead leg. It’s not serious, it’s very painful in the moment but right now I don’t have any worries.

As for Sheffield United, Chris Wilder offered the following update:

I think Enda [Stevens] will be back for Wednesday, I believe he will be. George [Baldock] will be touch and go for the weekend, I’m not too confident for Wednesday. The [long-term absentees] are nowhere near.

Sheffield United (3-5-2): Ramsdale; Basham, Egan, Bryan (Sharp 68′); Bogle, Lundstram, Norwood (Brewster 87), Fleck, Lowe; Burke (McGoldrick 62), McBurnie.

Chelsea (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kovacic, Chilwell (Alonso 62); Giroud (Hudson-Odoi 62), Mount Werner (Kante 75)

    Thoughts on that plan?

    1. Martin Stephens to Pope Hamez -4 and BB for GW24
    2. Hamez Robo to Raph Dallas -4 for GW25
    3. Probably WC for GW26

Would have the team below for this week BB:

    Martinez/Pope
    Robo/Cancelo/Stones/Justin/Coufal
    Salah/Bruno/Grealish/Hamez/Gundo
    DCL/Antonio/Bamford

Yeah def wait until fixtures are known (if they are). As it stands, I'd keep hold of the extra transfer instead of going in for Mee when you have Pope already. Ruidger against Wilson-less Newcastle should bring in the points this week.

It's becoming clear how much home fans make a difference to a team's results. For the first time in top flight history we have more away wins then home wins. Which teams do you think this has benefited the most and which teams have been adversely affected the most? Or has it made no difference?

Is this why the premium players are letting us down week by week or not?

I'm interested if anyone has data on that last bit - are premium players really letting us down, or is it the normal variation in scores where top players just aren't going to perform every week?

As for fans I think it has to have made a difference.. again it feels like there are more shock results against home teams. I'm tempted to think that's a big part of Liverpool's struggles at home

On the other hand, Moyes has benefitted from not having his own fans on his back.

Yup, Mourinho too and even Parker for me has benefitted from fans not being there and being able to find a plan and identity for his team when start of the season results were going badly. Still favourites to go down with Sheffield and wba but I can see genuine fight in them now

      2. @persecuted_by_mods
          3 years, 1 month ago

It's definitely made a difference, 50k+ fans screaming at a ref would influence his decisions, and would of course motivate a team too when screaming in support

How much, who, what etc I haven't delved too much into bar the obvious Liverpool are a better team at Anfield with fans there

Of course, otherwise within the first week of games out of all the seasons I'm sure we've had plenty where away teams won more. Definitely the key part of this is so deep into the season it has never been the case

            A couple of things.
Do think it's given "lesser" sides more confidence going to the bigger clubs.
Certain players/teams thrive with a crowd whereas some do disappear.
I'd be curious on comparative ref stats as well. Are home sides getting less marginal decisions without crowd pressure?

            Just an opinion:

Sheff Utd, Palace, Wolves, WBA, and Liverpool have struggled without home support

West Ham, Man City, Villa, Spurs, Newcastle have improved without home support.

West Ham and Newcastle in particular. Their fans have unrealistic expectations of their place in the PL and so end up being toxic.

Feel sorry for new players from abroad who've not yet the opportunity to experience playing in front of home fans. Biased off course but British fans can create an electric atmosphere.

Could Timo Werner have done better with the fans?

Also is this why TAA is not the same player?

I think the teams and players that have done well have done so because of no fans

I also think the teams and players that haven't done well haven't done so because of no fans

There are two or three things going on here.

First is there's an anomaly at play. Having no fans could explain a dilution of home advantage but wouldn't create an away advantage; at most it should make home/away irrelevant. So part of what we are seeing is entirely random.

Second, FPL managers tend to seek patterns where there are none. Many times I have seen articles or comments on FFS and elsewhere talking about how player X is more to be trusted in away games while player Y is better in home games. This is usually based on a fairly short series of events in which things just happened to fall out that way; there's no fundamental reason for it and no weight should be put on it. Next season those same articles may be saying that player X is better at home and player Y away, without suffering the slightest contradiction. I have seen that happen many times. 😕

Third, home advantage has been gradually declining for some time now and isn't as big as is often implied. You are talking about 4 home goals to every 3 away goals or thereabouts. Home advantage has certainly been a factor in football but one among a number and often not the most influential one.

The reason for Liverpool's run of defeats at Anfield isn't the absence of fans; it's because that team has hardly changed in 3 years, has been under-invested in and has been run into the ground. If anyone cares to look, they will see that this is exactly the same pattern Klopp had at BvB; two seasons building the team followed by 2 seasons at peak followed by 3 seasons of gradual (and at the end sharp) decline. The only way to keep a team at the top is to invest at the top but FSG have an American moneyball model and are quite content for Liverpool to fall to 4th or 6th or 8th while they build towards the next peak in 3 or 4 years' time. That's the way it works in US sports and they don't think about Liverpool any differently to that.

Anyway, all in all it is better to treat what has happened so far this season in terms of home/away results as an oddity rather than a pattern. There's nothing to suggest it will continue.

Even putting Liverpool to one side, the fact remains that if at the end of the season there are more away wins then home wins for the first time in the history of Top Flight Football (121 season) then you can't ignore the pandemic and lack of home fans as possibly being the main factor making this possible. It will be interesting to see which teams improve in the season fans come back.

That's not true what you're saying about Liverpool`s owners. It would be a distater for them to fall out of the top 4 as they rely on that capital.

Not so. CL revenue in itself isn't that big a component of the revenues of a club like Liverpool; the main issue would be if they had no CL football for multiple seasons because that would hit their commercial revenues (which are much more important and relate to the prestige of the 'brand').

FSG would accept a season or two without CL football rather than spending all the money they might make (and much more) trying to stay at the very top.

This has nothing to do with sport; for owners like FSG it isn't a sport it's a business and profitability is king. That's why they got into moneyball (at Boston Red Sox) in the first place.

            Raphinha or Dallas next week?

            A. Would have to sell Trent to Tark/Mee this week to upgrade ESR to Raphinha.

            Or

            B. Save a transfer and do Trent to Dallas next week and leave 2 free for 26. No WC

Raphina is such a pleasure to watch play. So much technique and skill. Both him and Dallas are good options. I already have Dallas so if I was to bring a 3rd LEE it will be Raph. Can you get both or have you got Meslier blocking that triple up?

I could get both for free only if I saved a transfer, issue is lack of WC and not sure I want 3 going forward.. Raphinha is class and also glad he only got 5 points yesterday.. Issue with Leeds they are still vulnerable at the back vs better attack..

The only thing that I have against getting Raphina in if you don't have the WC to WC out of it in GW30 is that he takes a valuable midfield spot. On that basis, I personally prefer Dallas + Bam. However, what Camzy has said above makes perfect sense given the doubles in 24/25 and you gain an extra DGW player for both weeks. Go for A

The other issue is Smith-Rowe and the fact I really want to get the bench boost out the way in 26.
I’ll scout Arsenal game and make decision based on that, so Trent to Mee this week and then make decision next week regarding Leeds dbl up..

Antonio has looked good though, what are you seeing there?

I guess the idea of saving means I can attack the leeds double better which could have more upside. Something like Antonio, Soucek and Mee to Dallas, Raph and Bamford

The lack of a City attacker is a bit of an issue imo. Triple defence seems a bit too much. Nothing worth a hit though. Antonio to DCL is another option

feels like i've made my bed, might need to lie in it for the doubles. At least the def seems nailed and I can hope gundo/sterling get rotated

66 points and a tiny red arrow to 250k. Captain Antonio was a bust and selling Bamford to get him a few weeks back has gone horribly wrong. Also having Sterling over Gundo just keeps getting worse. But I'm very hopeful my next 3 gameweeks will get me closer to the top.

Captain Tony blank, DCL benched, but Dallas my hero. Had a -40% rank drop after the Spurs game. By the end of the gameweek managed to turn it around to a small green arrow and +8% rank boost. Sterling and Dallas my biggest differentials delivered

Ha. Same as me, that Spurs game looked like a killer, 40% rank drop and then the Leeds Calvary arrived to save the day. Thought Justin was doing bad things to Mya rank but who neeeda him when you have Dallas?

What a week. I love moments like this. Before tonight’s game I was in 41 points and dropped a shed load in rank. I’d benched Martinez and Gundo and was pretty gutted. I was also well and truly out of the cup as the guy I was against had 2 Leeds players to my 3 but had a 15 point lead. We both had Bamford, but I had him as captain. But here’s the best bit; I had Dallas and Meslier, who somehow go and get themselves clean sheets and 3 bonus points each to scrape me through and probably end up on a 10th consecutive green arrow with 75 points for the week. Happy days.

I was thinking about you after the game Rupert! I remembered you had Bam(C) + Meslier + Dallas so I bet you you were glad that game did not get cancelled 🙂

Hello mate. I can’t actually believe it. I somehow got more points than it the game as cancelled. 34 from those three legends.

I got exactly the same amount regardless of the game being cancelled or going ahead. Had 18pts on the bench waiting for me and got 18pts from Dallas + Bam. The good thing about it going ahead though was that many other managers would have benefitted from bench points too and that would have brought the average score higher. So, that game going ahead was actually better for both you and I 🙂 Good luck next week!

Rough, very rough. First red arrows for about 12 GWs.

                  Smooth:
                  First captain haul since GW17
Late decision to play Martinez and not transfer in Pope worked out.

                  But:
My free transfer scored a calamitous own goal, wiping out my double Chelsea defence.
Dias' first error in his entire career (probably) wiped out my double City defence.
                  The missed penalty.
                  DCL on the bench.

Nothing structurally wrong though; it's a case of dusting myself down, holding off on a transfer and going again.

Dallas ended the week nicely and I got 77 overall, narrowly outside of top 1K.

But as a United fan who benched DCL for Wilson I still haven't really recovered from Saturday.

                awful
                - benched DCL over Soucek, Wilson or Grealish (take your pick)
                - benched Meslier over Ederson
                - fourth captain fail on the bounce
                - 47 points
                - fell from 150k to 260k ... disaster of a week
                - benched 67 points in the last 4 game weeks

I'm on a stinking run. Was at 348k on GW16 wildcard coming out of Xmas, 6 reds in 7 weeks and I find myself at 816k! Every move has not paid off. Brought Mane in for double Liverpool DGW19 and sold KdB, didn't work. Went Sterling over Gundog, not worked. Brought Wilson in for Kane for two nice games, has a goal chalked off first game, then gets injured vs leaky Soton in the second! Then Kane's back early!

Rough: On paper nothing much apart from Soucek. The late DCL goal killed me really.

Smooth: Bruno(c), Sterling, Konsa, Coufal, Salah, Bamford, 52 points seemed decent but was a 5.4m GW rank!

Rough: set my team up early in the week with a view to making a transfer on Friday evening, completely forgot to do it and as a result ended up burning 1 of my 2 FTs, d'oh. Oh, and Andy Robertson.

                  Woe:
Went for a differential captain: Antonio - he was my 2nd lowest scoring player (Soucek was lowest)
                  Benched Watkins 9 points

                  Joy:
Managed to get a green arrow though (just a few thousand places, so still down around 450k)
Played Dallas over Mee & Digne on the bench which worked out very well.

Have had to use both my FT already for Antonio & Soucek > DCL & Sterling because I had exact funds.

The highs and lows of a GW.

I had no players from Bruno (c) all the way to the Liverpool game. Watching Son, Justin racking up points and rank falling was painful. Then had the penalty miss combo of Sterling/Gundo and thought I was destined for a massive red arrow.

For them to redeem themselves how they did was so satisfying and then Dallas last night completed the comeback to give me a healthy green arrow and just outside 200 OR.

Thanks Geoff. Looking ok for next week with 2 ft to deploy. Have everything bar FH left so not in bad shape.

Strategy much depends on how many teams get a double in GW26 with a GW29 fixture. To make the most of BB I could do with a couple.

                  Very rough week

                  80k to 130k

benched DCL and Salah and put off getting Son and captaining him.

Two players returned zeros points, Rudiger own goal, Soucek red card.

Was winning my mini league, after this week I'm now 30 points behind the new leader.

                  All roughs

Very tough! But that rank fall isn't actually that huge, easily made up next GW. Or over the next few. Should be lots of opportunities with the DGWs

                  bit of a mixed bag - some real highs and lows;

                  - Week started great (Watkins, Emi, villa fan) + Burnley conceding
                  - West Ham game not so great (Coufal, Soucek + Captain Antonio)
                  - Utd game worse - benched DCL
                  - Sunday couldnt have begun any worse for ML's - don't own Justin or Spurs attack and Gundo pen miss
                  - Gundo & Salah goals bought gw back to life
                  - Dallas last player rounded out a decent final score of 71 and remain hovering around 75k rank

FT of Dallas over Mee this week as prefered the Palace fixture to the Brighton one was fully vindicated

The highs and lows of an FPL Cup match. I stupidly played Martial with DCL first on my bench. A nerve wracking final few minutes waiting to see if he appeared was tense. Luckily he did not and I held a slight lead going into Sunday. My triple Man City against Salah was another tense affair. The joy of a Gundo penalty then skied had me in tears, followed by the joy of him scoring early in the second half. With the clean sheet and double City defence in tact I was well on my way through. Until Dias fouled Salah and he scored. Ruined the game. Everyone was in tears. Somehow I managed to get a 6 point lead going into the final game with another Gundo goal. Final day, Bamford for opponent and I’m all out. 6 pointer from Bam and we are all equal. We both scored 5 goals each so tiebreak goes to goals conceded and the 4 conceded by Liverpool steals the game for me. What a cup tie. The stuff of non-league dreams!!

Justin first bench for 2nd week in a row, but 83 points, 12th green arrow in the last 13 weeks (only red coming in the blank week when I used no chips), and up from 2.2m OR to 77k during this time, with all chips remaining.

                  Smooth:
DCL, Gündo, Salah, Bruno, double West Ham defence, Leeds and 10th green arrow on the trot.

                  Rough:
Not a huge amount to grumble about. City and Burnley conceding, Fabianski's booking for timewasting in the dying stages losing my 3 points (-1 YC and the 2 bonus pts he was on for), Maddison and my über-differential captain Raphinha playing incredible football and getting little or no reward.

Rough: 33 points on my bench! Meslier, Watkins, DCL (and Stones). Think my highest ever bench haul. My bench got my 6 points in GW19 when I played my BB card...

Worst GW ever. 41 points, 6.8m GW rank!

Rough: Soucek red, Rudiger OG wipes out CS for him and Chilwell, Laca subbed off on 58', benched Gundogan.
Smooth: At least Bruno(c) did not blank.

Smooth: My starting 11 were fantastic and I scored 108 points in total, taking me from 180k to 60k OR. By far my best gameweek of the season.

Transferred out Martinez and Brewster for Pope and Antonio, which meant I benched DCL. Net loss of 17 points as a result of my two transfers. Hoping the Double Gameweek will pan out slightly better.

Got the holy trinity of negative points this week - red card, own goal and pen miss. Memorable for the wrong reasons! The other rough was that I was knocked out of the cup and got a red arrow overall.

Smooth was the DCL haul, Gundog making up for his pen miss, Bruno(c) over Antonio. Overall it could have been much worse after so many 1 and 0 pointers.

                  Rough.
                  - Five of my players (Pope, Stones, Cancelo, Soucek and captain Antonio) blanked, and I only scored 59 points, dropping 83k places from 576k to 659k.
                  - But my bench scored a mammoth 40 (Martinez 9, Calvert-Lewin 12, Targett 7 and Dallas 12).
                  - When I played my Bench Boost in GW19, my bench only contributed 6 points towards my total of 155, but since then I just can't stop benching big points - 21 (Soucek 15), 17 (Bamford 15), 12 (Antonio 8) and now 40.
                  - Like Eric Morecambe in his famous sketch, I'm picking all the right players - but not necessarily in the right order!

My two transfers were Johnstone to Pope who I played over Martinez and Dier out for Rudiger. Captained Antonio and benched Gundogan. Gundo was my captain the week before so if I had never logged in at all I would have got an extra 21 points. Chunky old red arrow for this guy

It’s a tale of woe over the last few weeks, concluding with a 5th consecutive captain blank & 36 bench points this week:

                  GW20 - Coufal (1) over Soucek (15) - 18pts benched.
                  GW21 - Soucek (1) over Bamford (15) - 20pts benched.
                  GW22 - Salah (c) was only player to blank - 14pts benched.
GW23 - 47points including Soucek red card, Gundo pen miss - 36pts benched.

                    You aren't alone pal.

                    GW 20 - 1st on bench Soucek (15pts), Bruno (C) 2 pts x 2, Gundogan (vc) 14 pts
                    GW 21 - 1st on bench Bamford (15pts), Gundogan (C) 3 pts x 2, Salah (vc) 15 pts
                    GW 22 - 1st on bench Justin (15pts), Salah (C) 2 pts x 2, Bruno (vc) 17 pts
                    GW 23 - 1st on bench DCL (12pts), Antonio (C) 2 pts x 2, Son (vc) 10 pts

This season has been a rollercoaster. A very slow start like a lot of people but managed to graft my way to OR 200k by GW 20. The last 4 GW's have really been a kick in the stones though due to my own decisions (or mistakes depending how you look at it). Currently at 259k

                  Rough
60pts and a -20% red, not helped by Rudiger scoring an OG, also not a total disaster but i benched Gundo for Kane who i didn't think would play, also benched Martinez for Areola, it was only an 8pt difference in the end but every little helps

                  Smooth
i thought it might be a good week for a differential captain so i capped Rodriguez because he had a rest and i fancied Everton to get something at OT, the punt didn't fail but i also didn't get much benefit from it as most of the other popular captain picks scored roughly the same

Rough - Brought in Pope & Mee to be "ahead of the curve" which resulted in benching Martinez + Dallas causing a -18 pts swing

Like the previous 3 GW's, left too many points on my bench and VC hammered my C

                  Rough: Antonio (C) Son (vc)
Benched Martinez, DCL & Coufal (transferred Pope in for Forster, started Pope, Soucek & Cancelo)

Smooth: Still managed 72 points with Justin Dallas Gundogan Salah Bruno Son Bamford all getting returns

Took out DCL for a hit versus Man U - he ain't gonna score I thought.

Bought in Wilson against poor form Southampton. Got injured after 35 minutes giving me one point. Then DCL scores a last minute goal getting 12 points.

This one move cost me 15 points. 🙁

Now had to get DCL back for the double.

I would definitely do A and bring in Pope for this week. I see no reason to bring in Raphina this week so that move can wait until next gameweek.

I think some plan to bring in Kane for GW26 is the way to go. So depends which way you wanna go about it. Rashford has 2 great fixtures coming up and most likely a double in 26. Wait and see if UTD double after tonight and then make the moves.

Losing Salah could be tough but could definitely work out with Rashford and Kane's likely doubles.

I'm looking at Raphina next week and I may take a punt of Danny Ings for the double before I bring in Kane for his likely double. Moving Antonio on as well

Sterling tends to start the more difficult and important matches ( which I believe these two are).
He was only benched against Burnley, Brighton and Sheffield at home. I think he gets 2x starts here.

This will likely be my team after using my 1FT (Forster to Pope). Given the spread of cash and the reasonable fixtures, seems a good idea to BB this week (Have all my chips in intact). This way when playing my WC I don't have to compromise the starting 11:

                Thoughts?

                Pope
                Cancelo - Dias - Lowton
                Gundo - Salah - Fernandes - Grealish
                Antonio - Bamford - DCL

Patrick Bamford is going to triple captain himself for the DGW and I for one might join him.

                Pope (Martinez)
                Stones, Lowton, Digne, Coufal
                Sterling, Gundo (c), Fernandes, Soucek
                DCL, Antonio

                (Martinez; Bamford, Son, Dier)

                1FT, 4.0itb

                A. Dier > Dallas now and Soucek > Raphina next GW
                B. Save now and do both these transfers next GW
                C. Something else?

                WC for GW26 probably

Ok, so I can get 8 double gameweekers for this week. Seems excessive but that’s how it has fallen. I have no Leeds though. Is wildcard next week to set up for the Leeds double and the DGW26 the way to go? Still have FH for 29 so think I should attack the other fixtures. Basically, thoughts on WC25 approach.

WC25 is more or less template. Template = good, so I think there is nothing wrong with that plan

I'm in a similar position with just bamford (see below). I plan to take a hit or 2 to bring in Leeds and Southampton assets for next GW and then WC in 26. Means that you can put out a really strong 11 in 26 and not wreck it with too many Leeds players whose fixtures aren't great going forwards

If Everton DGW is confirmed for GW26 as well.............is it overkill to go for DCL and Jrod?

Depends on your team. For me, midfield spots are at a premium and JRod will be taking a valuable spot and I fancy other assets with a DGW in 26 to do better. That being said, I have 2 City mids, so if you only have 1 then that potentially "frees up" a midfield spot for 26 for you

Repost for a different crowd. Appreciate any comments ladies and gentlemen

                Pope*,
                Mee*, Dias*, cancelo*, digne*
                Bruno, rashford, gundo*
                DCL*, Bamford, antonio

Martinez (BHA), coufal (SHU), bowen (SHU), ESR (LEE)

                1 FT, 7M ITB

Pretty set on ESR -> Lookman & BB provided no injuries to my squad in the cup.

But is lookman the best option for my ESR transfer given I have 7m ITB. And should I also trade out Bowen for a -4 given he might not start / last 60 mins again?

Bowen I think is the bigger risk than ESR. ESR plays Leeds and I fancy him getting an assist in that game. You could do Bowen to JRod if you are not 100% certain on Lookman?

Yeah I like Jrod for this week but that would leave me with triple Everton against pool the following week which isn't ideal. Lookman maybe worth a punt I think. Agree with you on Bowen but he has a higher ceiling if he actually plays. Hmmm.

                    Thanks for the comment!

2 free transfers. Soucek to Gundogan (bench Son) a good use of one?

I like that transfer. For what is worth, I would rather bench Grealish than Son. BHA have been very good defensively lately, especially at home.

If considered luxurious, Son > Rashford bench Coufal and bring Son/Kane back for the double in GW26. Or Son > Raphinha for DGW25.

We have very similar teams to each other and I also am wondering what to do with 2 FT.

I'm currently going with what Magic Zico said - I'm currently benching Son and playing Grealish but I may transger Son to Rashford and then bench Grealish instead.

I benched Salah against my two City defs and if Salah didn't dive then the plan would have worked perfectly. I do not see Spurs getting anything against City, but if they can get something against West Brom with their current form (even if Kane was back) imagine what Man United could get? Also Rashford is a great differential.

                    Yes, maybe the moves are:
                    This week: Son to Rash
                    Next week: Soucek to Raphinha

Team is great. Can only really think of a few minor upgrades within the same team, eg:
                  Stones to Cancelo?
                  Coufal to Cresswell?
