Injury updates on Gundogan, De Bruyne and Calvert-Lewin ahead of midweek matches

Pep Guardiola provided an important fitness update ahead of Manchester City’s Double Gameweek 24 visit to Everton.

After scoring 19 points against Spurs, Ilkay Gundogan (£6.1m) looks unlikely to reprise that role at Goodison Park.

He was forced off with a groin problem on Saturday which Guardiola seems unprepared to take too many risks with:

“Ilkay is much better but I don’t think he’s available for tomorrow. The rest of the players are okay, except Nathan Ake.”

Pep Guardiola
The Complete Guide to FPL Gameweek 20

How long Gundogan is the central player to Manchester City’s attack remains to be seen, not just because of his injury.

Guardiola offered some encouraging news on the return of Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m), suggesting he could be back on the FPL radar very soon.

“He’s really getting better (De Bruyne). Today he did all training with the group, with all of us. Much better.”

Pep Guardiola

And Sergio Aguero (£10.3m) continues to build up sufficient match fitness to provide competition to Gabriel Jesus (£9.2m) and possibly other members of Manchester City’s front-three.

Sergio Aguero (£10.3m) is one Sergio is one year injured so cannot start from the beginning – but he is ready to come back. He was on the bench last game and will be again.” – Pep Guardiola

Meanwhile, after spending the Spurs game on the bench in the aftermath of a midweek illness, centre-back Ruben Dias (£6.1m) remains available for selection.

Should we be reconsidering Everton's attackers for Gameweek 20 and beyond? 7

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m) owners will have to wait a little longer before seeing their man in action.

After a more positive update before the Double Gameweek 24 deadline, Carlo Ancelotti ruled him out for the second game in a row.

“Not available for sure are Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Gbamin. The others are all okay. They are going to train today. Jordan Pickford (£4.8m) yesterday trained and it was all okay.”

Carlo Ancelotti

The Everton manager is hopeful that Calvert-Lewin will be ready for the Liverpool game in Double Gameweek 25, making his next press conference another important one to tune into.

“I think it’s a matter of days. We hope that he will be available for Saturday.”

Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti did deliver some better news on Allan (£5.2m), who he said is available to play against Manchester City.

James Rodriguez (£7.7m), who came off with a knock in their defeat to Fulham, is also expected to be available.

“It is the intensity of the Premier League. There is a lot of contact. I think it was nothing wrong. It was a normal contact and he is available to play (against Man City).” – Carlo Ancelotti

Fulham will be without forward Aleksandar Mitrovic (£5.5m) for their visit to Burnley, with manager Scott Parker revealing he was suffering from COVID-19.

“Mitro is okay, he’s got one symptom of the virus. It’s disappointing for him as he was coming out the other side of a tough season. It’s a big time and we’ll need him.”

Scott Parker

In the absence of Mitrovic, Parker backed Josh Maja (£5.5m) to continue performing after his brace against Everton.

“I’ve been impressed with Josh Maja in a short space of time. He’s fitted in very well. He’s come into a young, energetic group of players. He wants to learn and get better, which is vitally important.”

Scott Parker
Mee boosts Burnley clean sheet potential as Welbeck impresses for Brighton

Burnley manager Sean Dyche could be without a number of players for the Clarets’ game with Fulham, with Ben Mee (£5.1m) definitely missing the game.

“Mee is fine within himself but he won’t be playing. We’ll follow the protocols for that.”

Sean Dyche

Erik Pieters (£4.3m) is also a doubt after coming off injured against Palace, with first-choice left-back Charlie Taylor (£4.4m) nearing a return to fitness.

“Pieters isn’t that serious but is touch and go, Vydra isn’t too serious either, Taylor has made good progress and has trained recently, we’ll have to make a decision on Wood.”

Sean Dyche

3DGWs, with United, Chelsea and Spurs.

They might as well be SGW at that point. Dallas is still the better option even if Southampton has doubles

WC this team? Have all chips left. Have 2FTs as well. Can't decide on what to do. Any suggestion much appreciated!

    DDG, Forster
    Stones, Cancelo, Lowton, Coufal, Mitchell
    Grealish, Salah, Son, Bruno, Gundo
    DCL, Bamford, Antonio

This is the problem. The team is doing quite well. However, not strong to BB25, not much point in WC25 as I have 2FTs to get 3 to 4 main dgw25 players. I was thinking of WC26 to get a strong XI and BB whenever another opportunity arises. Good idea?

WCing just to get rid of Mitchell and Forster is pointless... you can navigate with FTs and WC in 30

You could actually get out a decent BB side in 26 without the WC. Just need to tidy up Mitchell Forster and maybe Coufal and Antonio to a DGWer

      1. sunzip14
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

The problem is, I have only 1gw to tidy up and those transfers need to go to getting dgw25 players. Which means, they only have a single fixture in 26.

Antonio to Ings and roll the transfer? Gives you Bamford and Ings for the double and bench DCL and then following week take a hit to get DGwers in for Forster Coufal and Mitchell? Does the cash stretch to that? Might be a bit tight

Will need some more hits for BB as cash won't be enough to ship out all these. Also, no space for Kane this way and Antonio still in the team.

Personally I wouldn't use the WC but you seem pretty set on it? You have a strong enough team and another option is to wait and BB later in the season and use TC in 26? You'd easily navigate that with this side and 2FT

Actually no, If you look at my comment history, you would know I am confused as hell 🙂 Maybe I am just getting swayed by what others are doing. Maybe I should just forget that I have all chips left and concentrate on the available team. It's actually doing quite good gw16 700k to 25k now. Thank you again. I might as well save BB for later and navigate 26 with FTs and TC.

Thank you for the suggestion though! Will consider the first suggestion and maybe just concentrate on good XI for dgw26. BB whenever next opportunity arises before 30/31, as I will have WC left this way.

we have similar team. I am trying to get out a good BB side for GW25 so i dont have to worry baout it on WC26. Antonio, DCL, Coufal the main ones to go for me. Just do a hit of Mitchell + Coufal +DCL/Antonio --> Dallas, Shaw, Ings and you should be good

      1. smash
        • 14 Years

I'm also in a similar position (all chips intact)

        McCarthy
        Cancelo - Lowton - Coufel
        Gundo - Sterling - Salah - Son - Bruno
        DCL - Bamford

        Bench is dross

Can take 2 free transfers into 26 as it stands and combine that with a -8 to save my WC then use 3X captain chip, feel the bench boost chip has to be combined with a WC really, this week looks good to use them both after each other but kinda feel I can milk my team a little more tbh, dunno am I missing an obvious trick but not hitting my WC

Has there been any chat on how the most valuable team in the game ISN'T a dud account purposely doing hits to try and be #1?

I was massively surprised when just going through the list on the FPL homepage - https://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/3997355/history

    They've done 41 transfers with a TV of 111.2m
the second and third have done 130 transfers and 94 transfers...

I don't think I've ever seen that before in previous seasons.

yeah, although most of the value was gained since GW8, which is when the number of transfers started to become "normal".

Comparing my TV to theirs, in GW8 is was only 2m~ difference, but then nearly every single gameweek their TV just keeps growing and growing even though they aren't doing silly numbers of transfers in and out.

Wow, that team is strong and he has 8m in the bank. Fair play....he took lots of hits at the start but kept hold of a lot of the players since then

Is Kane essential for the DGW’s? Or is Vardy a good punt.

I would try and prioritise Kane over Vardy, but Vardy is a good punt and could well outperform Kane

Any thoughts on this WC draft please? Planning BB26 and still have FH.

If KDB is fully fit then maybe dropping Salah for KDB would allow me to upgrade Struijk to Dallas

    Areola, Martinez
    Cancelo, Stones, Targett, Shaw, Struijk
    Salah, Bruno, Gundo, Raphina, Grealish
    Kane, Ings, Bamford

Strongly considering losing Grealish > Raphinha.

Stats seem to favor Raphinha (at least the xG and xA). Gain the points now with a differential. Grealish also opens up Ings > Kane in GW26 who I otherwise would not be able to afford.

    Worth?

I'm not sure for who but I am also tempted to lose Grealish, Villa haven't looked great the past few games and opening up a midfield spot could could priceless

I've been more than happy to bench Grealish recently, realistically the transfer you're suggesting should pay off.

Grealish doesn't haul, at least not so far, he has steady points but struggles vs some good teams, so he is nice to have but is no where near essential.

I'm benching as I'm happy with others who can come in and Villa will have good games coming up

        Yep.

My midfield of Salah, Bruno, Gundo, Grealish, Son has been very good for a while. I'm very reluctant to break it and need very good justification to do so.

Getting Raphinha for a DGW is a pretty good start and then it also opens the door for Kane which would enable me to get Salah, Bruno, Son, Kane for GW26 and BB.

Yes I would, Grealish has gone off the boil and not sure if number of games he's played is catching up with him. He's still a class player but Raphinha looks better value right now

Hi, would really appreciate some thoughts on my team and potential plans given future DGWs as I might be missing some of the obvious options. 1 FT, 0.4 ITB, only FH and TC left (plan for BGW 29).

    Martinez
    DALLAS Cancelo Dias
    Salah Bruno Son Gundogan Grealish
    BAMFORD Antonio

    4.0 Mee Coufal Wilson

Initial thoughts are Wilson & Antonio > INGS & fodder. Followed up by somehow brining in Kane (TC) for a hit for DGW 26.

    Anything else look better? Thanks!

Ok, think I finally have a plan - how does it sound?

    WC GW25 to: [7 moves] (4 DGWers)

    McCarthy*
    Cancelo | Dallas* | Lowton
    Salah | Bruno | Son | Grealish | Gundogan
    Ings* | Bamford*

    Areola | Watkins | Konsa | Taylor

GW26: Ings & Bamford to Kane & Maja (-4) and BB: (14 possible DGWers)

    McCarthy**
    Cancelo* | Konsa* | Lowton*
    Salah* | Bruno* | Son* | Grealish* | Gundogan*
    Kane* | Watkins*

    Areola** | Taylor* | Maja** | Dallas

    Key:
    * DGW confirmed or 70-85% chance (GW26)
    ** DGW possible (40-60% chance)

    Thoughts?

Ings might get a double in 26 as well. Looks like sound logic, Bamford to Kane for the double is good. Be careful though planning so many transfers up front for hits as if one of your players gets injured or misses out then you'll have to change the whole plan

Ah really? In that case Areola and Maja would have to be Olsen & another striker max 5.5, not sure who that could be though.
No I’d have to go without KdB unless it’s for Salah.

What do you make of Kane's fixture commitments?

Wolfsburg, West Ham, Wolfsburg, Burnley, Sou/Ful, Palace 6 games in 16 days from Thursday 18th - Saturday 6th

Looks to have a Michaeil Antonio/DCL-type situation written all over it

If Mou rests him this Thursday night then great... otherwise he’s likely either missing a league game or two or getting injured
