Guardiola hints at Double Gameweek 26 and 27 for City and offers Gundogan update

Double Gameweek 24 came to a conclusion on Wednesday evening as Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to ten points with a win over Everton.

Elsewhere on a generally underwhelming night for those with Fantasy interest, Burnley and Fulham played out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

SEEING DOUBLE

How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Double Gameweek 24

A throwaway line from Pep Guardiola in his pre-match interview on Wednesday evening set tongues wagging in the Fantasy Premier League world.

The City manager lamented a busy month ahead for his side before the clash with Everton, in doing so mentioning that games against Wolves and Southampton – City’s two outstanding fixtures following cup-related postponements – had been added to the calendar in March.

Those two matches could realistically only be added to Gameweeks 26 and 27 if we’re looking at City’s schedule before the March international break:

ARE YOU ILKAY?

Missing his first Premier League game since Gameweek 12, Ilkay Gundogan (£6.1m) sat out City’s win at Goodison Park.

Guardiola had forewarned us that the German would miss out on the trip to Merseyside and he had more to say on the in-form midfielder ahead of kick-off, suggesting that a return to action in Double Gameweek 25 wasn’t yet assured:

Elsewhere on the fitness front, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) marked his return from injury as a late substitute.

We await news on Joao Cancelo‘s (£6.1m) condition, with the Portuguese defender taking a heavy kick to his knee in second-half injury time and limping through to the game’s conclusion.

As for Everton, the Toffees could have Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m) back for the Merseyside derby this weekend:

SILVA LINING

Guardiola hints at Double Gameweek 26 and 27 for City and offers Gundogan update 1

De Bruyne’s return gives Guardiola another option in the centre of midfield, where Gundogan and Bernardo Silva (£7.4m) have started every Premier League match that they have been available for from Gameweek 14 onwards.

It was Phil Foden (£6.1m) who ostensibly filled in for Gundogan as the left-sided ‘number eight’ on Merseyside, with the youngster opening the scoring with a deflected 31st-minute effort and generally posing more of a threat than the shot-less Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) further up the flank.

Bernardo meanwhile made it six attacking returns in his last seven starts, first claiming the assist for Riyad Mahrez’s (£8.1m) superb strike and then taking advantage of some suspect goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford (£4.8m) to round off the scoring himself.

Bernardo has started 12 league matches in a row now and his and Gundogan’s run in the team pre-dated De Bruyne’s injury by some time.

It’ll be interesting to see how Guardiola incorporates the Belgian back into his side, then. Given the form of Bernardo and Gundogan in their respective central midfield positions and Gabriel Jesus‘ (£9.2m) lack of it up front, it’ll be the Brazilian who will be watching more nervously over his shoulder – both Bernardo and De Bruyne have operated as the spearhead of the City attack over the last few months.

Rotation will beckon for most City players during the upcoming period of fixture congestion, it has to be said, with Guardiola telling reporters:

If you see the schedule that we have… we have a game every three or four days, everybody is going to play. Against Arsenal, we are going to play new ones.

ALL ABOUT MEE

It’s now just one clean sheet in seven matches for Burnley without their skipper Ben Mee (£5.1m), who missed Wednesday’s draw with Fulham due to the concussion protocol.

The Clarets’ shut-out record stands at seven in 17 when Mee is fit and the good news for Sean Dyche’s side is that the first-choice stopper will be available for selection for the weekend’s clash with West Bromwich Albion, a fixture that offers Burnley a very good opportunity to add to their clean sheet tally.

Not that stand-in centre-back Kevin Long (£4.3m) was culpable for this clean sheet loss, with first-half substitute Robbie Brady (£5.0m) – on as a replacement for the crocked Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.4m) before having to leave the field himself – making a hash of a goalline clearance for Fulham’s opener.

On a disappointing evening for owners of Nick Pope (£5.6m) et al, the four Fantasy assets who emerged from the draw at Turf Moor with any sort of FPL return were all owned by 1.5% of Fantasy managers or fewer.

Ola Aina (£4.5m), the fortuitous scorer of the Cottagers’ goal and assister of one of Josh Maja‘s (£5.5m) strikes in the win over Everton, finished as Gameweek 24’s joint-top scorer on 20 points alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m) – two players owned by a combined 10 managers inside the top 10k.

Fulham were worthy of their point and their undefeated run against sides outside of the top four now stretches to ten games.

Is Kane really that much of a better option than Son?

A little moan from me, so so close.
I was going to ask earlier of my chances of going through in the cup but thought I’d get told off.
Going in to the last game I was on 76 with Dias and Sterling (c) and he was on 64 with just Foden (c) and 1 point off the bench. I was just about ahead and then Sterling got that yellow card. We are tied but that Foden goal of all kicks in the teeth then splits the tie in his favour. Utterly brutal.

    Thoughts on Holding to Struijk?

Also would you do any of these move this GW?
    A. Antonio to Kane
    B. Soucek to Barnes

    Plan to TC26, WC30/31, FH33

    2FT 5.7itb
    Pope
    Cancelo Stones Digne
    Salah Bruno Gundo Raphinha
    Bamford Antonio DCL
    (Martinez Soucek Cresswell Holding)

      Like Soucek to Barnes

Leicester are getting ignored on here. Form team with good fixture run coming up and a decent DGW likely. It could be the return of Vardy will improve Barnes too.

I'm definitely doing the Kane and Barnes moves, just neexti decide if I should do one of them this GW or 26. I hope Barnes plays closer to Vardy. Looked good in the Liverpool game

Leaning to not WCing this week and so not sure I will have a decent BB team in 26. I know this is pretty weak all things considered but really unsure when will use it otherwise. So, providing Antonio is fit would you consider BBing this?

Which option would you guys prefer here?

    A) White + Vestergaard + KDB + Watkins ( Leaves 0.1 spare)
    B) Rudiger + Stones + Son + Ings (Leaves 0.2 spare)

    Rest of team would be:

    Martinez

    Salah - Gundogan - Fernandes - XXX
    XXX - Kane - Bamford

Prob B. Don't rate Soton defence and too early for KDB. Not sure on the rudiger pick as Chelsea have some tough fixtures on paper. I'm not sure if the spurs double up is worth it

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        • 12 Years

Cheers bud! Yeah they are looking ropey that SOU defence, logic tells me as well to give KDB some time, may even just stick with Gundo anyway, it’s not like KDB was absolutely hauling before he got injured like Gundo has.
Rudiger is just an out there pick, probably more sensible to stick a Brighton defender in there though.
The Kane & Son double up, yeah, maybe Son could go for a Leicester mid, do like to see what they both can offer though with decent fixtures ahead now.

Hahah yeah likely makes sense, United Everton and Leeds you’d think all score. Granted he’d be a bench player in my squad but even still, if he was called up on then you’d at least want someone with better fixtures for cleanies. I’ll steer clear the same then 😉

Still thinking about moves. Very uncertain.

    I'm gonna do either A or B.

    A) Mitchell > Burn
    B) Grealish + Coufal > Strujik + Raphinha (which funds Ings > Kane in GW26)

I really don't wanna sell Son. He will likely play in 29 and double in 26. It's the same with Grealish I suppose but if I want Raphinha I have to lose one of them and it's really hard to do.

doesn't really get a lot of saves or bonus though right?

Still think that Gundo at his price with a good 8th attacker as a back up for when he sits.
And one of their defender with the depth behind them too.

Gotta imagine one of of KDB or Gundo will play every game between them too...or Foden/Gundo if you don't want to commit so much

Actually Foden & Gundo double up with a strong 8th attacker for bench cover.
      Plus Dias.

      That's my three.

    Is this a good idea?

    GW25: Antonio & DCL -> Bamford(C) & Ings -4
    GW26: Bamford & Bruno -> Kane(TC) & Grealish -4

Could also bring only one of Ings or Bamford in GW25. Have Dallas and Raph.

I don't think I would take Bruno out. He's a points getting machine. Do the GW25 moves though, then reassess for 26.

Selling Mee this week not for me. If he's fit, he has WBA and then a DGW.

Dallas very overrated. Leeds don't keep clean sheets so you're just hoping for attacking returns.

      1. Big_Andy_GAWA

Overrated?! Lol. He's less than 5 million and is at the heart of everything they do. Bombs forward regardless if he's playing RB/LB or in midfield!!

The stats say he's overperformed a lot. And he has to get midfielder like attacking returns in order to justify his price considering Leeds are so leaky.

If you think he'll do that, then sure. But I'm not convinced. He has 2.47 xG and has scored 4 goals. 1.49 xA and has 3 assists.

Ayling has better xA than him and yet has 0 assists.

Not saying that Ayling is better, because he's not, but Dallas has overperformed and to expect him to keep up his scores with no clean sheets is very optimistic.

Madness to do Lookman + DCL -> Raphinha + Ings for a -8?

Or just do Lookman -> Raph for a -4?

    1. BeWater
      • 3 Years

Just do Lookman. DCL could have a nice DGW in 26. Ings is up against Chelsea in 25 which might easily be a 2 pointer.

Pep roulette is going to be out of control in the run in. They are in all the cups and have pretty much got the league in the bag. God knows what sort of line ups he's going to throw out in March and April.

City can actually be disposed of come GW29. I'll likely move down to just 2 or even just 1.

Their fixtures from 29 onwards reads:
      blank lei LEE avl blank

    1FT 3.4itb. Prob TC in 26, WC in 30
    Pope
    Dias, Dallas, Shaw
    Salah, Bruno, Son, Gundogan, Raphinha
    Bamford, DCL

With Brewster you'd literally be pleased if he gets four points which isn't a great ceiling for a bench boost player in a double imo

      A) Yes
      B) No - but mainly because I already have value tied up in Dias and Cancelo so the choice is between them for me
      C) No
      D) Yes if you can afford
      E) Yes - hoping he's fit for DGW26 when I plan to bench boost
