Guardiola hints at Double Gameweek 26 and 27 for City and offers Gundogan update

Double Gameweek 24 came to a conclusion on Wednesday evening as Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to ten points with a win over Everton.

Elsewhere on a generally underwhelming night for those with Fantasy interest, Burnley and Fulham played out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

SEEING DOUBLE

How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Double Gameweek 24

A throwaway line from Pep Guardiola in his pre-match interview on Wednesday evening set tongues wagging in the Fantasy Premier League world.

The City manager lamented a busy month ahead for his side before the clash with Everton, in doing so mentioning that games against Wolves and Southampton – City’s two outstanding fixtures following cup-related postponements – had been added to the calendar in March.

Those two matches could realistically only be added to Gameweeks 26 and 27 if we’re looking at City’s schedule before the March international break:

ARE YOU ILKAY?

Missing his first Premier League game since Gameweek 12, Ilkay Gundogan (£6.1m) sat out City’s win at Goodison Park.

Guardiola had forewarned us that the German would miss out on the trip to Merseyside and he had more to say on the in-form midfielder ahead of kick-off, suggesting that a return to action in Double Gameweek 25 wasn’t yet assured:

Elsewhere on the fitness front, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) marked his return from injury as a late substitute.

We await news on Joao Cancelo‘s (£6.1m) condition, with the Portuguese defender taking a heavy kick to his knee in second-half injury time and limping through to the game’s conclusion.

As for Everton, the Toffees could have Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m) back for the Merseyside derby this weekend:

SILVA LINING

Guardiola hints at Double Gameweek 26 and 27 for City and offers Gundogan update 1

De Bruyne’s return gives Guardiola another option in the centre of midfield, where Gundogan and Bernardo Silva (£7.4m) have started every Premier League match that they have been available for from Gameweek 14 onwards.

It was Phil Foden (£6.1m) who ostensibly filled in for Gundogan as the left-sided ‘number eight’ on Merseyside, with the youngster opening the scoring with a deflected 31st-minute effort and generally posing more of a threat than the shot-less Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) further up the flank.

Bernardo meanwhile made it six attacking returns in his last seven starts, first claiming the assist for Riyad Mahrez’s (£8.1m) superb strike and then taking advantage of some suspect goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford (£4.8m) to round off the scoring himself.

Bernardo has started 12 league matches in a row now and his and Gundogan’s run in the team pre-dated De Bruyne’s injury by some time.

It’ll be interesting to see how Guardiola incorporates the Belgian back into his side, then. Given the form of Bernardo and Gundogan in their respective central midfield positions and Gabriel Jesus‘ (£9.2m) lack of it up front, it’ll be the Brazilian who will be watching more nervously over his shoulder – both Bernardo and De Bruyne have operated as the spearhead of the City attack over the last few months.

Rotation will beckon for most City players during the upcoming period of fixture congestion, it has to be said, with Guardiola telling reporters:

If you see the schedule that we have… we have a game every three or four days, everybody is going to play. Against Arsenal, we are going to play new ones.

ALL ABOUT MEE

It’s now just one clean sheet in seven matches for Burnley without their skipper Ben Mee (£5.1m), who missed Wednesday’s draw with Fulham due to the concussion protocol.

The Clarets’ shut-out record stands at seven in 17 when Mee is fit and the good news for Sean Dyche’s side is that the first-choice stopper will be available for selection for the weekend’s clash with West Bromwich Albion, a fixture that offers Burnley a very good opportunity to add to their clean sheet tally.

Not that stand-in centre-back Kevin Long (£4.3m) was culpable for this clean sheet loss, with first-half substitute Robbie Brady (£5.0m) – on as a replacement for the crocked Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.4m) before having to leave the field himself – making a hash of a goalline clearance for Fulham’s opener.

On a disappointing evening for owners of Nick Pope (£5.6m) et al, the four Fantasy assets who emerged from the draw at Turf Moor with any sort of FPL return were all owned by 1.5% of Fantasy managers or fewer.

Ola Aina (£4.5m), the fortuitous scorer of the Cottagers’ goal and assister of one of Josh Maja‘s (£5.5m) strikes in the win over Everton, finished as Gameweek 24’s joint-top scorer on 20 points alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m) – two players owned by a combined 10 managers inside the top 10k.

Fulham were worthy of their point and their undefeated run against sides outside of the top four now stretches to ten games.

Jesus taking the stick. He's actually 3rd in the form table for strikers with 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 5.

Guess other than Bamford or Watkins it's slim pickings up front.

I was just mentioning Jesus is criticised in this article for being out of form.

When literally he's 3rd in the strikers form table.

I know players are returning from injury and potential is a different part of the equation, looking forwards.

Foden only 2pts behind KdB and 5.5m cheaper than Sterlo (11 vs 7pts this GW)

He's not that nailed on as compared to the 2. And people would rather have double city defender + gundo or gundo + KDB and 1 defender.

Punty option if you don't have the funds

Would you do Cavani > Ings for a - 4?

Have a couple of other issues like Antonio & Gundo inured bu feel that this could be a better move?

    Y or N

I have WC available still but dont want to use that until i need 5 + transfers.

I dont think we will get a full update before deadline on Cavani either as they play Monday now?

I will see what the pressers say tomorrow and then pull the trigger then.

    Bottomed last page....

    WC locked in thus far:

    Martinez
    Cancelo Shaw Vestergaard
    Son Bruno Grealish Gundo Raphinha
    Ings Vardy

    Sanchez Maja Struijk Tete

Please rip it to shreds and bag me for not having Salah in it.

6.5 ITB exact funds for Raph to KDB in 26. (Although may go Ings/Vardy to Kane instead depending on what happens in 25)
Might also swap Sanchez out for Areola before deadline as FUL could Double in 26 and I might BB.

      Why Son?

Son isn't showing much form, except the 10 points home to WBA and an assist v Sheffield Utd he's blanked in the 5 of the 7 games since Leeds.

There's no harm taking hits in DGWs. Could very well pay off. but there's no way you should be considering WC at all. You have digne and watkins who are v useful for 26. I would seek to downgrade Pope and upgrade Adams and Coufal soon enough. And to replace Sterling.

I'm reading these experts recommending Raphina... cool. But beyond this week, meh, I'm not sold (I'm yet to decide on my GW29 plan).

More so, are you guys struggling to find a seat for Raphina?
I have Gundogan, Maddison, Grealish, Rashford, Salah.

Gundogan and Salah are not leaving, based on form and cost.
        Maddison has form and fixtures.
Grealish could go, arguably, but then he's got three games yet to be scheduled.
Rashford isn't looking terrible, has NEW (H)... just doesn't have the recent form in FPL.

This GW has been a great example where Martinez scored more than Pope despite two decent fixtures. At this stage of the year, we've got quality that can trump DGW players.

What are people doing and their thoughts?

I'm a Leeds fan and honestly I'm surprised how long Raphinha has gone under the radar. He's been amazing the past few weeks, and stats don't seem to back up his impact.

That being said, alot depends on whether KP is fit for the next 2 games. If KP is fit, Raphinha will thrive more.

In your situation, I would remove Rashford, but as you say it's weird to remove Rashford when he has a plum fixture against Newcastle and a DGW. I would very well hesitate to make a move just for Raphinha (if you already have Bamford).

I removed Sterling for Raphinha. No regrets there. Did it before the game.

Raphinha is my move this week, but he could very well leave for KDB or someone else the following few weeks. Leeds are the 5th highest scorers, so fixtures don't mean much to us anyways

            Thanks!

Yeah, I think Rashford is the one I'm happiest with trading.
It does depend on knowing he doesn't have a DGW within 1-2 weeks however.
Raphina does get a lot of the ball, when viewing the heatmaps, in addition to the other FPL stats. You're right.

            Cheers

I'm hearing Pep has been told the fixtures ahead of Ben Crellin.

So Man City double with Wolves then Southampton in gw26 and gw27. I think is the order, let me check.

Clearly clubs are informed before it's announced publicly.

Going to be tough choosing 3 or 4 out of Kane, Salah, KDB, Bruno & Son!

Yes that what I'm planning too.

Want Kane & Bruno for sure. Would like to see Salah, KDB & Son play atleast once more to make a decision.

I am going with Salah KDB Bruno Kane. Gundo KDB double up rather than Kane Son double up. City much more attacking.

So Man City are going to have 4 premier league games at home in a row.

West Ham, Wolves in a dgw followed by a double with Man Utd and Southampton.

        No travel helps them too.

And with rotation the players will all get some pitch time, but will any be bullet proof and who scores?

They have to travel for UCL.

Ederson is the only nailed on one for me. Once KDB gets his fitness, I suspect he will be nailed on too.

              What do you mean?

The only way they won't have a DGW26 is if Spurs have to play Fulham and Man City have to play Wolves.

Their is no playing sub at that price. Mitchell or Kilman might get gametime but it will be unpredictable.

If you can arrange 0.1, then Burn/Lascellas are sliightly better options.

So Wolves double away at Manchester City in gw26

Southampton dgw in 27 away at Man City.

Man City double with 4 home matches in a row across game weeks 26 and 27 ...

        Game on.

Can people really afford Salah, Bruno, Son, Kane and KDB too?

              Martinez Forster
              Cancelo Shaw Rudiger Taylor Struijk
              Salah KDB Bruno Gundo Raphinha
