How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Double Gameweek 25

Just over one-third of the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers are tripled-up on Leeds assets for Double Gameweek 25.

According to LiveFPL.net, 34.9% of them came into the latest round of fixtures with Patrick Bamford (£6.9m), Raphinha (£5.4m) and Stuart Dallas (£5.0m) in their team.

While Friday night was not the best of starts to the Gameweek for this trio, it could still be a powerful combination be against Southampton.

A wave of investment in Raphinha appears to be the main reason for the popularity of that triple-up.

The midfielder has broken into the top 10k’s most-owned players for Double Gameweek 25 having risen to 53.5% ownership at this level.

Ilkay Gündogan‘s (£6.1m) increased from 79.3% to 85.2% suggesting very few pounced at the short-term opportunity to sell him for Leeds’ set-piece taker.

And, despite dropping to the fifth-most top-10k midfielder, Son Heung-min (£9.5m) also earned more backers, rising from 52.2% to 53.3% backing at this level.

It was Jack Grealish (£7.7m) who looks to have been a popular route to Raphinha. He was the fifth-most popular top-10k midfielder for Double Gameweek 24 with 44.2% ownership. Following Friday’s deadline, he sits in just 28.9% of squads here.

There was still some investment in Dallas and Bamford for Double Gameweek 25, solidifying their already strong presence in the top 10k.

The defender rose from 51.9% ownership to 67.6%, becoming the top 10k’s most popular defender in the process.

Bamford was already their favourite forward but still had room to increase his top-10k ownership from 88.9% to 97.9%.

Meanwhile, Danny Ings (£8.4m) has broken into the template ahead of his two fixtures, already the second-most-fashionable forward at this level (41.5%).

Despite a Double Gameweek against Southampton (home) and West Bromwich Albion (away), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.6m) looks to have been one of the fall guys here.

He was in 45.9% of top-10k teams for Double Gameweek 24 but resides only in 13.6% now.

And Michail Antonio (£6.6m) was almost certainly involved in Ings’ transfers considering his massive drop-off too.

65.7% of the top 10k owned the West Ham man for Double Gameweek 24 while only 36.1% still had him after Friday’s deadline.

The captaincy is something of a one-sided story in Double Gameweek 24.

82.0% of the top 10k backed Bamford with the armband, making him one of those most backed in one Gameweek so far this season. His effective ownership for the round stands at 180.7%.

The Leeds striker certainly has work to do after blanking against Wolves on Friday night.

That two-point score will certainly have eased some fears of the 6.4% of top-10k managers who captained Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) for Double Gameweek 25.

Despite playing just once this week, the Manchester United man is preparing to face a Newcastle defence that has conceded twice in six of its last seven outings.

Raphinha was the third-highest for top-10k captaincy backing (5.5%) while Ings (2.9%) and Gündogan (0.9%) came fourth and fifth respectively.

Double Gameweek 25 Scout Picks features Leeds triple-up

It will certainly be interesting to see what transfers transpire between now and Saturday’s Double Gameweek 26 deadline.

There will be 14 teams enjoying two fixtures making for the biggest Double Gameweek of the 2020/21 season.

For all the heavy investment this week, Leeds are not one of those sides, although have a relatively favourable single Gameweek fixture at home to Aston Villa.

In total, 10 players from the matrix of 15 in the top 10k most-owned matrix have two fixtures in Double Gameweek 26, so many of the managers at this level could be approaching a stacked-enough squad to warrant a Bench Boost.

As things stand, Dallas, Vladimir Coufal (£4.7m), Raphinha, Bamford and Antonio are the five popular top-10k assets scheduled to play just once in Double Gameweek 26.

6.4% of the top 10k have already laid the groundwork for Double Gameweek 26 by playing their Wildcard.

The Free Hit and Bench Boost received very little attention this week, although we can expect a bump for both of them next time out.

Meanwhile, just 1.1% played their Triple Captain for Double Gameweek, most of them handing it to Bamford.

Considering the higher-than-usual attention for Wildcards in the top 10k this week, it is worth looking at the trends they set.

As things stand, there is a slightly higher proportion of players with two fixtures in Double Gameweek 26, with 11 of this template fitting that description compared to 10 in the main ownership matrix.

Interestingly, a large number of Wildcarders still tripled-up on Dallas, Raphinha and Bamford while Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) was also included for Southampton’s Double Gameweek 25.

The most notable differences between this Wildcard template and the rest of the top 10k appear to be 66.8% inclusion for Luke Shaw (£5.0m) and renewed interest in Spurs assets.

55.6% of these Wildcarders selected Son while 62.3% of them went for Harry Kane (£11.1m).

Anyone who just played their WC for this GW....

How would your team have been different if they'd bloody announced the DGW's an hour or so earlier?

I definitely would have gone with an Everton attacker (J-Rod/DCL and I'd have gone with a Villa attacker too (probably Watkins because of Grealish rumours).

But thankfully, I think that's about it for changes I'd have made. So, I'm not too peeved about it. May take a -4 hit to rectify it though later in the week...

    (Bam & Raph > Watkins & J-Rod -4 will give me 13DGWers + McCarthy & Ings)

I think my team would be identical. Basically took a gamble and and the fixtures panned out almost exactly as I'd thought they would

Got 3m itb now to upgrade ings to Kane.

Mine wouldn't have been any different, I lost Grealish for Raphinha for this week and will lose Bamford and Ings to facilitate Kane and then have to decide on the other 2 spots next week, but honestly Antonio uncertainty was the deciding factor in using it, but I ended up changing 7 players in total and punted on Maitland-Niles as a Justin replacement (decent few fixtures and playing OOP) so I lucked out with them getting a double too

I set my team up with a view to bring in an Everton, Leicester or Villa attacker for Bamford or Raph in 26.

I used the Ben Crellin spreadsheet.

Planned ahead up to 29 and also considered the next 3 after that.

The predictions worked perfectly. It is exactly the team I would have kept had I seen the fixtures before deadline.

How close was Ben crellan? Wasn't playing wc so wasn't paying too much attention to his predictions.

Did he have everton down to have more difficult fixtures?

I’m not on Twitter. I just googled him and looked at his spreadsheet screenshots.

Have a look and you can see his posts from the last few days. Super simple to follow.

Everything was pretty much bang on. They just haven’t announced a couple of the outstanding fixtures that’s all.

I missed the WC/BB boat and wished I wc-ed as the DGW26 is huge

On the flip side, I now have more info so my WC team will potentially have KdB, DCL plus fodders who will play in BGW29 etc but can only field 11 doublers next GW

yip, the most important information will be injuries, rotation and the pressers so that you don’t carry any deadwood in to 26 ... KDB being very much of interest is a change to 2 attacking & one defensive City asset.

Plus ditching Leeds & Ings is useful too

Looking forward to seeing how both Bamford and Ings play on Tuesday.

On fixtures switching Bamford for Kane and keeping both DCL and Ings looks most sensible to me.

Good luck guys and gals and enjoy the weekend.

Bamford season keeper, especially with the value i have tied into him, has to one of the best value players(maybe after gundo with his recent streak)
Ings dcl kane all good options though!

Sounds ok imo. BB is the worst chip imo anyway

Everyone always slags off BB - but, for me personally - the BB has always been a successful chip.

I've scored 100+ each time I've played it. Admittedly, that's because I always play it in DGW which is why the score is so high.

TC has been a complete disaster for me. I've not had one success (unless you count Kun 7pts x 3 as a success)

That logic is flawed though. It only matters what your bench gets - not your whole team. You would have gotten most of the 100+ without using the chip.

It's a bit meh if I'm being honest. Who's your bench keeper for the BB?

If it's a non-playing GK too, then I'd say no on the BB

      1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON
        • 7 Years

Its a playing keeper. Have 12 DGWers already with 2 playing keepers - Martinez and Johnstone/ Areola.

If you don't deploy BB in dgw26 when will it be used?

The lure is for us, players don't get a bounce from a DGW. It can look more tempting than reality and with European games there's a chance of rotation.

7 starters is very decent actually. I think I've got about 4 and I'll be selling a couple of them this week 🙁

If I had 7 already, I wouldn't be using FH in 29 that's for sure

Increasingly arbitrary number when looking at the template. Such a small proportion of the overall players now and things are so bunched up this year that it's losing its meaning for me really.

To follow up on this article, I've never seen such a strong template and I am playing the game 10+ years.

Differentiating means a red arrow almost guaranteed.

So how to get a green? Different captain? Any other insights?

            By going super template.

My team before WC was 75% template according to liveFPL. But, I moved from almost 3million OR to inside the top 100k in about 12 GW's.

So, it's still very possible for upward mobility even with a team that appears template

Doing well in DGWs and BGWs.

There are a lot of options next GW. I haven't seen many talk about Everton defence, Johnstone in goal, Lookman, Werner, Mount, Cavani, TAA etc.

It’s always like this - every. single. year.

it’s just a pool of players but there are almost infinite combinations from that pool

Bamford, Watkins, DCL, Antonio, Vardy, Kane, Ings - how many variations of a 2 & 3-man forward line can you make from that lot?

Salah, Bruno, Son, Grealish, Gundo, Soucek, Raphinia, Maddison, Barnes - how many 4 & 5 man midfields can you make from that?

How many combinations of 7 can you make from the above?

And that’s before you get to defenders & GK’s...

It’s about the same sized pool of players that we have every year, with Probably about a million possible teams from it

Going differential with captain choices is never wise unless it’s the last few weeks and you’re hoping for a miracle.

Planning well around doubles and blanks and chip use is the number one way to climb the ranks.

I’ve never been influenced by ownership when making transfers.

Surely that depends on if the most-captained player performs or not? If Raffina or Fernandes for example haul this GW ,and Bamford blanks, then going differential would be an absolutely brilliant idea?

Why does differentiating mean an almost certain red arrow. Not differentiating means staying pretty much level......the only way to get a meaningful green is to attack a bit and go different?

Different captain a great way to go about it also. Going around Bamford this week was the perfect opening for those wanting to have a crack at climbing the OR. With Phillips out even more so. Following the heard at this stage of the season basically means settling for what you have out of fear.

              Read maximus bonimus post above.

You don't need differential captain to be different. There's 1000's of combinations you can have from the pool of players considered template.

I've risen almost 3 million places with a 'template' team and 'template' captains.

Maybe in the last few weeks of the season you can go a bit differential to try win your ML. But no need at all right now

That is a great effort for sure. But now you are at that higher rank you'll have a harder time making gains with a template most likely. Having a template team (based on the top 10k) at an OR rank 1 million + means that you are probably differentiated from those around you. But that dynamic changes a lot once you get inside 100k. You have to try and preempt the template to make impact......Gundy for example was a differential around GW17, now he's not. The biggest value was in having him early.

Took a -4 this week and likely next week also. The combined -8 well well worth it for TC 26 and WC 31 though. I’m ranked 18k, can I still win FPL?

It's tough because number 1 is miles ahead of even the person ranked 1k.

          For DGW26 should I:

          1.Triple captain Harry Kane BUR(H) FUL(A)
          Or
          2. Bench Boost with Grealish LEE(A)SHU(A), Mee TOT(A)LEI(A) & Neto WOL(A)MCI(A)

          Thanks!

          (A) Ings > Kane(c)
          (B) Ings + Raphina > DCL + Barnes -4. Will captain Son.

Wc currently. Plan is to get some saints (bench them this week) for next weeks double then bench boost 28 for hopeful villa and eve double, TC Kane whenever Spurs get their double and FH 29.

This optimal use of chips (would have liked to bench boost 26 but that ships had sailed)?

I wouldn't let BB dictate your wildcard team this week. That's about it.

Cheers yeh I was tempted to set up bb for next week so don’t have to try and second guess fixtures eg not over plan for BB. Problem is don’t really like treble saints vs city

WCing this week and no other chips left so need a team that has some 29 players in too.

Thoughts on this draft? Honest feedback would be great! Nightmare season so far and ranked 300k and want some differentials!

          Martinez 3.9
          Digne Cancello Aina Dias Burn
          Mane Gundo Bruno Son ESR
          Kane DCL Watkins

You are pretty much there with your core players - although I'd definitely go for Salah over Mane (for penalties alone).

I wouldn't have your cheap DFers - White over Burn and I'm not keen on Aina either. Rest seems fine!

I would get Shaw in over Digne, and then Mane to Salah

Just realised I don't have any in action until the late game: Reid.
Had triple Leeds yesterday but came away with 11, so there's that. If Alioski was rested, fine, if bumped to the bench permanently then I reckon he's going out for... who knows. Targett? Alonso?

£0.1m off being able to do:
          Coufal + Rashford + Davis > Konsa + Son + Watkins

Any suggestions? Trying to sort out a team for both GW26 and GW29...

Still early in this gameweek but toying with some moves for next week. Off the back of a wildcard so reluctant to take a -4 but will do it probably. What's your preferred move here:
          a) Ings + Dallas to DCL + Digne (keep Bamford and Raph)
          b) Ings + Raph to DCL + Grealish
          (keep Dallas + Bamford)
          c) Dallas + Ings to Strujik + Kane

        30. bench boost for every gamew…

Every one in the ffs have cap bamford and triple leeds. Is it automatization going on? Weird, but kind of mainstream?

Just bamford here, never understood the hype for the defence, still don’t think bamford was a bad decision, 1 goal against saints and it’s a decent return

I have had ayling from gw2 wc so played him. And i was not questioning the choice Just Odd that every one did. Good choice and i was close too myself and bam was close too.

Thankfully I went double Leeds - only a -4 to remove them now 🙂

With only two teams having DGW, it isn't too surprising.

Raphina and Ings the other two candidates with two games.

Yep, i vc bam and put it on ings and those Grealish rumours made me close to get raph. Soucek off the bench If those are true, against spurs Who cant defend in the air. Or Grealish vs rusty pereira. Ings vs Leeds is gonna be fun. Hopefully kepa plays for Chelsea too.
