Calvert-Lewin on the bench as Everton visit Liverpool

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.6m) makes an important return for Everton but not how his 34.0% Fantasy Premier League ownership would have hoped.

After missing two matches with a hamstring problem, the mid-priced forward has been named on the Toffees’ bench for the Double Gameweek 25 Merseyside derby.

With Josh King (£5.4m) also among the substitutes, Richarlison (£7.9m) leads the line for Everton today with James Rodríguez (£7.7m) in support.

Carlo Ancelotti has opted for a rather defensive set-up behind those two, choosing three central defenders as well as Lucas Digne (£6.1m) and Seamus Coleman (£4.8m) with Tom Davies (£5.2m), André Gomes (£5.3m) and Abdoulaye Doucouré (£5.2m) forming the central midfield trio.

They also have Allan (£5.2m) to send into the mixed, making his return from injury on the bench and awaiting his first Premier League minutes since Gameweek 13.

Such a set-up might make life difficult for Liverpool’s key Fantasy assets, Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) in his usual right-hand station of the front-three with 43.2% overall Fantasy ownership.

That said, the Egyptian has four goals over the last four Gameweeks and has led the league for shots in the box and shots on target during that period.

Sadio Mané (£11.8m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) complete the attack although they are owned by just 5.4% and 5.1% respectively.

Despite conceding three times at Leicester in this configuration, Jurgen Klopp has not changed his back-four.

That means Ozan Kabak (£5.0m) partners Jordan Henderson (£5.4m) at centre-back with Andrew Robertson (£7.2m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) in the full-back positions.

Double Gameweek 25 Line-ups

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Robertson, Henderson, Kabak, Alexander-Arnold; Thiago, C Jones, Wijnaldum; Mané, Firmino, Salah.

Everton XI: Pickford; Keane, Holgate, Godfrey; Digne, T Davies, Gomes, Doucouré; Coleman; Rodríguez; Richarlison.

Double Gameweek 25 so far…

Burnley collected their ninth clean sheet of the season as they drew 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

However, owners of their defensive assets can probably consider themselves a little fortunate to benefit from the shut-out.

It looked, at first, that a red card for Semi Ajayi (£4.8m) in the opening period would severely dent the Baggies’ ability to trouble Nick Pope (£5.6m) but the exact opposite happened.

West Brom were comfortably the more attacking of the two outfits in the second half at Turf Moor and really should have found the net on multiple occasions.

Mbaye Diagne (£6.0m) had a close-range effort cleared onto the crossbar while Matheus Pereira (£5.4m) fluffed a golden chance in front of a largely unguarded goal after a square-ball.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.6m) really should have blasted the loose ball home, instead playing a sideways pass back to Pereira whose second effort was cleared off the line by James Tarkowski (£5.3m).

The centre-back is currently on for maximum bonus while Pope, who made two saves, is projected to receive two. Matt Lowton (£4.5m) is on two bonus as well, despite a late yellow card.

People being bit harsh on Kabak, he is young just changed the league and joined a team in crisis.

Give him some time before you crucify him.

Get a bigger / better squad

      All teams have injuries

You could argue that Liverpool have been unbelievably lucky to win the league and champions league last 2 years by somehow getting ZERO injuries to key players in those seasons

I want 6 injuries in the same position. 3 preferably season ending in the first third of season.

Normal seasons, normal rotation, normal training, normal travel. I mean you can’t figure for aholes like Pickford committing GBH but this is not just bad luck its insane planning by the Premier League allowing internationals, etc.

There must be something seriously wrong with the fitness regimes many of your players are on for it to be this bad.

Almost every team has had as tough a schedule as Liverpool - none have their midfield pulling up every single week.

They haven’t had 6 injuries in the same position

They’ve had 3 at centre back (Gomez, VVD, Matip) and 2 at central midfield (Henderson & Fabinho)

They currently have 2 centrebacks on the pitch, they’re just not very good centrebacks

Going into a 60 game season with 3 central defenders was asking for trouble - it cost Pep the league last year

          This is not factual.

What position were these players playing when they got injured.

          Cb

What hole does their injury leave in our team?

          Cb

6 different players at the same time. 3 season ending. Has never happened before.

No one even trying to find a real comparison because it does not exist.

Why was Milner listed as a left back a few seasons back? Because even as a career midfielder he played left back most of the season. If he was injured, it would have counted as a defensive injury because he was playing in defence.

Come on this is so obvious its embarrassing

Your point is ridiculous. They are playing cb because Liverpool's recruitment of cover for those positions has been atrocious and reactionary. They are not cb's and were never considered to be cb's before the injuries.

How does it not count as injuries at cb?

Yes we only had 3 recognized CBs. Yes that's our fault.

But 6 different players playing cb for liverpool are injured.

If it was the three young CBS who are cbs by trade, how would that be worse than this?

In the literal sense it is injuries WHILST PLAYING at cb , not injuries AT CB. Big difference. You can't possibly spin this to fit your crumbling argument. They are not injuries at xb.

I see 6 injured players who are our best players at cb.

That has hampered our season exponentially.

Calling them midfielders or cb is no difference at all to the unprecedented issue.

So now these 6 players are Liverpool's best at cb? You've never mentioned this before . How do you know that say Robertson would not be a better option at cb ? You don't assume never-ending him play there.
Pool had 3 first choice cb's , they now have 5 due to recent recruitment. They can't be that good if a midfielder is starting ahead of them. As I said the injury today occurred whilst Henderson was playing at cb . How can he be one of Liverpool's top 6 cb's when 2 specialist ones have been recruited.
Your season has been hampered due to injuries to 3 cb's , terrible and reactive recruitment and more importantly players throughout the team badly undeperforming.

You are not a fan soni dont blame you on getting the facts wrong. Just ask.

4 recognized CBs currently injured. You seem to only know 3. Be Davies is a cb and he has not started yet because after playing well the entire season for Preston's, he got injured in first training session for liverpool. He has not played because he is not fit.

That leaves fabinho and Henderson who have been great at cb and if you were a fan you would know they are next best. You dont know that cause you do not know our squad very well.

If you want to keep trying to win this please stick to facts. You cant ein with incorrect information. I am at an advantage because this is my team, but I find it hard to take you seriously when you keep getting stuff wrong. Kind of like when someone thinks they can speak a language but they really cant. Consistent mistakes makes it difficult to follow your reasoning

I forgot that Davies is injured. However your point is still garbage. You don't have to be a fan to actually see that Fab and Henderson have certainly not been great at cb . "Keep getting stuff wrong" - I forgot that one of your purchases is injured . One fact incorrect.
I ask again how is Kabak not considered by yourself to be one of Pools top 6 cb's? Hes a specialist in that position after all and the other 2 are midfielders.
Again your current situationis caused by injuries to the 3 centre backs you had up until the January transfer window , shocking reactionary recruitment and a big drop off in form of the remainder of the team. If you believe anything else then you really are totally deluded.
On that note I'm off to work.

Hendo his replacement has shipped more goals in partnership with others who have been more at fault. Not fab as he has been injured. I assume you are takking about city and leicster. I blame hendo for none of that

Who is pretending that injuries have nothing to do with Liverpool's season?

Loads of teams have had massive injury problems over the years. It always affects performance over the season. Liverpool have been relatively fortunate most seasons.

But no one whinges like the kopites and the kopite media.

      1. GreennRed
        • 12 Years

Koppites are supporters who have seen Liverpool play live fairly regularly and probably sing Liverbird each time. Keyboard warriors referring to Liverpool as 'we' after seeing them lift recent trophies on the telly in Timbuctoo are not Koppites. Not saying that Koppites mightn't whinge like but at least they know what they're whinging about 😉

Probably all VAR’s fault, or maybe it’s all that nasty Roy Keane hurting poor Jurgen’s feelings by spotting how sloppy they were before the wheels fell off the bus

Maybe Klopp trains them too hard and doesn’t give his players rest when needed, their style is spectacular, relentless and without a break between seasons unsustainable , it’s not bad luck

Liverpool players and fans are lucky they have all the CB injuries to blame as an excuse for this season. Saves them from admitting that the players on the pitch haven't been good enough.

The fact they've had defensive injuries doesn't explain why their midfield, attack and goalkeeper have all been far worse than previous seasons.

They also conceded about 13 goals in the first 5 games when Van Dijk and Gomez were available. What caused that then?

Could be that they slowly become that way due to lack of PL and CL success.

I think Man United fans are having trouble accepting a sustained period without success and are turning on the team/each other.

Liverpool won the champions league and the premier league in the last 2 seasons and there's still a conspiracy/higher power/voodoo witch doctor against them.

Ok so I understand why liverpool and united hate each other but no idea why neutrals would hate them. They have both played football the right way over the years and produced exciting football and consistency that has resulted in trophies. Where is the respect? This is why we all love football to see attacking teams and goals. Both clubs should be respected for what they have achieved not hated
