Bamford, Raphinha and Dallas all deliver as Leeds beat Southampton

Leeds 3-0 Southampton

  • Goals: Patrick Bamford (£6.9m), Stuart Dallas (£5.0m), Raphinha (£5.4m)
  • Assists: Tyler Roberts (£4.6m), Hélder Costa x2 (£5.0m)
  • Bonus points: Dallas x3, Illan Meslier x2 (£4.7m), Raphinha x1

WHAM BAM

Patrick Bamford (£6.9m) finally delivered the Double Gameweek goods as he netted in Leeds’ meeting with Southampton.

After watching a second-half effort ruled out for offside against Wolves, the mid-priced forward notably adjusted his run to convert on Tuesday night.

Tyler Roberts (£4.6m) put him through the middle of Southampton’s defence for a routine finish, his 13th goal of the season and his 21st attacking return.

Backed by 1.6 Fantasy Premier League managers for the Double Gameweek 26 captaincy, Bamford has now produced a goal or assist in five of his last six home league matches. That bodes well for further returns considering three of Leeds’ next five Premier League fixtures are at Elland Road.

As per usual, the size of Bamford’s latest score could have been bigger. His best chance outside the second-half goal came in the third minute when he powered through the middle and, when he probably should have unleashed an effort from just inside the Southampton box, he laid off to Roberts who could not reach the pass.

Meanwhile, Bamford even contributed at the other end of the field in the second half, turning a Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m) header over the crossbar in the 64th minute.

RAPH TRADE

Just as was the case at Wolves on Friday night, Raphinha (£5.4m) was exceptionally unlucky not to come away with another massive haul, although like Bamford, he did, at least find the net.

Despite being one of Leeds’ best players against Southampton, the Brazilian winger was denied both goals and assists with frustrating regularity for his 9.7% ownership.

In the 24th minute, Raphinha found some space behind Ryan Bertrand (£5.0m) with a mazy run and could have gone down for a penalty but squared for an unmarked, onrushing Roberts who skied a big chance.

Then, 14 minutes later, the Leeds wide-man was played through on goal in a gilt-edged one-on-one with Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) only for Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) to sprint back with all the endeavour of a Bamford captainer to put in arguably one of the best tackles of the season to deny him.

There were two more glaring misses from Raphinha passes in the second half that would have hugely frustrated his backers.

Roberts fired wide again in the 50th minute before Diego Llorente (£4.4m) forced an impressive save out of McCarthy but should have scored himself.

It was in the closing stages that Raphinha finally got his due, rifling home a free-kick from range after a foul on Hélder Costa (£5.0m).

Line-up Lessons

Stuart Dallas (£5.0m) returned to central midfield against Southampton although only after another enforced change for Bielsa.

The Northern Ireland international started the game at left-back once again, the Leeds’ cause helped by Llorente making only his third appearance since joining in the summer.

“(Llorente starting is) necessary in this moment and we hope he can show the qualities that brought him here.” – Marcelo Bielsa

However, Dallas still found his way to central midfield thanks to an injury to Mateusz Klich (£5.2m) in the second half.

With Pascal Struijk (£3.9m) occupying the Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) in defensive midfield, Ezgjan Alioski (£4.4m) was the nearest replacement with Dallas able to step forward.

Like Raphinha, he was also unlucky not to get an even bigger haul. It was Dallas who played Bamford for that chance he tried to move onto Roberts before the forward missed another Dallas key pass in the 52nd minute, forcing a good save from McCarthy.

Still, that shift forward allowed Dallas to get involved the goals all the same, toe-poking an edge-of-the-box strike beyond McCarthy after a Costa cross in the 78th minute.

Leeds United XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Dallas, Cooper, Llorente, Ayling; Struijk; Harrison (Costa 46′), Roberts (Hernandez 75′), Klich (Alioski 59′), Raphinha; Bamford.

Southampton XI (4-2-2-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, Vestergaard, Salisu, Bednarek; Tella (Minamino 58′), Romeu (Djenepo 70′), Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond (Ings 58′), Adams.

    Martinez
    Dias - Stones - Mee
    Salah - Bruno - Rashford - Gundogan - Raphinha
    Kane (C) - Bamford

    (Pope) (Dallas - Antonio - Bednarek) - 0FT - 0.4 ITB - WC & TC left

Is this team all set, or would you use any of the chips here? Can't decide when would be the most opportune time for them.

    Cheers!

looks fine. To TC or not to TC is personal choice.

Number wise, you will probably have less number of players as compared to average.

not tempted as fixtures arent looking good for any team except Everton (from attacking perspective)

but to play number games, I may just activate on someone since their will probably be too many chips active.

I guess their wont be any future opportunities as well.

Crazy to make these moves for a -8?

Raphinha Ings and 4.3 Sttriker out -> ESR DCL and Kane in

    Martinez
    Lowton Dias Digne (Rudigal Coufal)
Bruno (TC) Salah Gundo Son (ESR)
    Bamford DCL Kane (VC)

Have been hovering around 100-150k the last 6 weeks and quite sick of it tbh.

Been making stupid decisions the last few weeks, and removing Raphinha just seems v daft. That's the only thing holding me back. Who would you TC from this team tho.

Would most likely get Raphinha back for Gundo in 29 and ESR hopefully starts.

Chasing (circa-800K), so keep that in mind. Made a lot of dumb decisions (owners of Antonio, Barnes, Raphinha, Dallas, Bruno - you're welcome), so why stop now. Currently on a full squad of DGWers:

    Areola
Cancelo (TC) - Stones - Digne - Shaw
    Son - Salah - Rashford - Gundo - Lookman
    Watkins

    Pope, Bamford, Ings, Cresswell

    1.2 ITB, 1 FT

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Ings + Watkins > Vardy (TC) + Maja and bench one of Maja/Lookman
    2. Ings + Watkins > Vardy (TC) + Mateta and bench one of Mateta/Lookman
    3. Ings + Lookman > Vardy (TC) + Anguissa and bench Anguissa
    4. Ings + Pope > Vardy (TC) + Pickford and bench Areola (kiiiiinda leaning towards this)

If ever a -12 could pay payoff, it's a DGW and with Kane, Barnes and Cancelo in.

Yeah, that's why the second one is the more sensible one. At 12k, no doubt that's the one you go for. Unless ofc, you're going after Top 1k or Top 500 or something. Then a risk makes sense. Also getting DGW players for SGW players and Forster makes the hit look a bit less scary. Sterling out would be my only worry. But Kane, Barnes and Cancelo should cover for him.

Obviously this if you know one is a much better than the other. If you think it's gonna be close or you can't call, always good to play safer when you're close to Top10k and there are so many weeks to go. Obviously all depends on what your goals for the season are.

Isnt removing Son for Kane bit sideways especially as both have mixed form? Considering 3 of these
    1) Son + Ings to Barnes + Kane (c) or TC but ok form
    2) Salah + Bamford to Barnes + Kane
    3) Bamford + Coufal to Watkins + Targett and get BB of dgwPope watkins targett and sgw raphina dallas

    Martinez

    McC Ings Coufal Struijk
    1FT and .2 in bank

1 - Ings and Salah to Kane and Rashford
2 - Ings and Son to Kane and 6.8m mid (Siggy)

    (Apologies for the longish post)

For people without WC, FH and TC (a fair
few I suppose) - How do you strategize the BB chip. And does it make sense to play it in DGW26?

Current OR: ~20k, so tough to move away from the template very drastically.

As a template team: 3 Man City, 2 Spurs, Bruno, Salah, Martinez, 2/3 Leeds/Southampton seems to be the current setup for everyone

    The Issues:
    - Effectively boosting SGW players (given the Leeds + Southampton players from DGW25)
    - Drastic surgery leaves you hamstrung for GW29 blank (apart from Spurs)
    - Removing all Leeds then requires further hits in the coming weeks to have a playing 11 for BGW29

    The Pros:
    - Biggest DGW of the season
    - Good fixtures for Everton and Leicester, with a potential DGW in 28 for Everton

Would love to know your views on how you would go about it.
    - Go crazy with hits and remove Leeds.
    - Hold on to BB, play ~10/11 DGW players, don't take hits, and prep for BGW29
    - Use the BB in a smaller DGW (Ben Crellin mentioned that there might be a couple more, but no visibility as of now)

I understand that a BB on average gives you around 15/18 extra points extra - but I think this could be the season to shoot for the moon with that chip.

If you're considering BBing this week with SGW players, I might wait. Soton and Leeds don't have best fixtures this week. Might as well hold and do it when the fixtures look good for most of your squad. You can plan towards it post GW29. If there are any smaller DGWs post that, it could be good.

I won't be keen on BBing with 2 Leeds and 2 Saints on your bench tbh. Depends on who they are but the fixtures aren't great. If you can get a decent bench with a hit or maybe two, I'd consider. Otherwise, I would hold.

I'm currently thinking of holding as well, just a bit worried about eventually ending up playing it on SGWs anyway - later in the season.

But hopefully better fixtures than the ones now

Yeah. If fixtures are good even SGW ers can be good. You really need 4 starts and 2 returns for your BB to be successful. If 2 decent players like Bamford, Ings, Raph had a good fixture, I would consider doing it.

Feeling this is the week to use TC.

True, definitely better for TC than BB.

I burnt mine on a failed KDB DGW a long while ago though 😛

Kane for safety, DCL to gain rank in my view.

When it comes to TC, I normally ask two questions:

    A) Will I captain player X vs team A in a SGW?
    B) Will I captain player X vs team B in a SGW?

Unfortunately their is no set of games this week which results in YES to both questions. Worst thing is we probably wont get any better set of games in future as well.

Very rarely will you get 2 good captainable fixtures in a double, especially for the premium assets.
It will always either be one good and one decent (like City had in DGW19).
West Ham in DGW19 had the best pair I'd say. If any of the premiums had that I would surely TC them without a doubt (obviously if in form). But you don't normally see premium assets get such fixtures.

Rodgers did hint at managing his minutes last week. So, I won't be betting my house on it. Especially with Castagne back. He can play there with Thomas at LB or Albrighton can chip in for a game as well.

He started there last GW because both Praet and Perez are injured. But the latter is returning within the next 10 days so you can expect him to move back to fullback.

All chips wasted but have remained in top 10000 for weeks now.
    Team is 1FT, 0.6 itb
    Martinez, (Forster)
    Digne, Stones, Cancelo (Lawton, Mitchell)
    Salah, Bruno, Sterling, Raphinha (ESR)
    Bamford, Ings, Cavani
    Clearly needs major forward surgery
Is forwards and Sterling to Kane, DCL, Vardy and Gundogan for -12 (leaves 0.2 itb) too much, or calculated risk for DGW? The 12:point hit still leaves me in top 10k.

Thanks. In a weird way it seems better without any chips. Much less stressful. I was at 13k in week 15 before used any of them, and all just seemed to distort team for later weeks. Plan for 29 is to divest myself funds from City players to whichever teams in that week seem in good form, as once their DGWs over, become of dodgy value with increased rotation as league becomes secure.

I'd keep Bamford since he plays GW29, will probably jag something this week, and at first glance you might need another -12 for a decent team there. But I'm fairly hit averse. You've done well this season, I'd back your gut.

I can see your point about chips. Mainly the BB one - I tried to setup to play it DGW19 and abandoned when COVID hit, this time I'm forcing the issue in arguably a worse position. So that's probably 10-12 weeks with some (not all) less than optimal plays to use a chip that might net me 15-20 points.

Can completely relate mate. He hasnt left my team all season but i am chasing and i think i could make ground with a nice differential like KDB. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Waiting to see if he plays in CL. Tamblings got a good point too but for now the leagues not done so might be worth a risk. Thank you both for your inputs. Lots to think about.

The only concern I'd have is that when KDB fully fit, Pep will put him in cotton wool a bit, as really needs him for Champions League, which he is desperate to win this season. So he might be rested more than usual, as League becomes increasingly a formality. However your team really good, and any sign of that happening, you can adjust quite easily. He's likely to haul big one week soon.

    Pope (McCarthy)
    Stones Lowton Targett (Coufal Dallas)
    Sterling Gundogan Bruno Salah (Saka)
    DCL Bamford Antonio

    Thoughts on Saka to Barnes?
Only trouble is I'm 0.1m short. Would a 4 point hit to do this move by also doing McCarthy > 4m be worth it. Its transferring a single game player for a dgw player (Barnes in form with 2 nice fixtures also)so really its only a 2 point hit?? It allows me to bench Antonio this week and then play him next week home to Leeds. Thoughts please guys???.

    Pope Soucek Coufal Ferguson

    1. Ferguson Ings >> Konsa Kane
    2. Coufal Ings >> Targett Kane
    3. Pope Soucek Ings >> Areola Barnes Kane (-4)
    4. Soucek Coufal Ferguson >> Barnes Targett Shaw (-4) (play BB)

Thinking 1 as it keeps some 29 players and gets rid of Ferguson.
