Bamford, Raphinha and Dallas all deliver as Leeds beat Southampton

Leeds 3-0 Southampton

  • Goals: Patrick Bamford (£6.9m), Stuart Dallas (£5.0m), Raphinha (£5.4m)
  • Assists: Tyler Roberts (£4.6m), Hélder Costa x2 (£5.0m)
  • Bonus points: Dallas x3, Illan Meslier x2 (£4.7m), Raphinha x1

WHAM BAM

Patrick Bamford (£6.9m) finally delivered the Double Gameweek goods as he netted in Leeds’ meeting with Southampton.

After watching a second-half effort ruled out for offside against Wolves, the mid-priced forward notably adjusted his run to convert on Tuesday night.

Tyler Roberts (£4.6m) put him through the middle of Southampton’s defence for a routine finish, his 13th goal of the season and his 21st attacking return.

Backed by 1.6 Fantasy Premier League managers for the Double Gameweek 26 captaincy, Bamford has now produced a goal or assist in five of his last six home league matches. That bodes well for further returns considering three of Leeds’ next five Premier League fixtures are at Elland Road.

As per usual, the size of Bamford’s latest score could have been bigger. His best chance outside the second-half goal came in the third minute when he powered through the middle and, when he probably should have unleashed an effort from just inside the Southampton box, he laid off to Roberts who could not reach the pass.

Meanwhile, Bamford even contributed at the other end of the field in the second half, turning a Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m) header over the crossbar in the 64th minute.

RAPH TRADE

Just as was the case at Wolves on Friday night, Raphinha (£5.4m) was exceptionally unlucky not to come away with another massive haul, although like Bamford, he did, at least find the net.

Despite being one of Leeds’ best players against Southampton, the Brazilian winger was denied both goals and assists with frustrating regularity for his 9.7% ownership.

In the 24th minute, Raphinha found some space behind Ryan Bertrand (£5.0m) with a mazy run and could have gone down for a penalty but squared for an unmarked, onrushing Roberts who skied a big chance.

Then, 14 minutes later, the Leeds wide-man was played through on goal in a gilt-edged one-on-one with Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) only for Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) to sprint back with all the endeavour of a Bamford captainer to put in arguably one of the best tackles of the season to deny him.

There were two more glaring misses from Raphinha passes in the second half that would have hugely frustrated his backers.

Roberts fired wide again in the 50th minute before Diego Llorente (£4.4m) forced an impressive save out of McCarthy but should have scored himself.

It was in the closing stages that Raphinha finally got his due, rifling home a free-kick from range after a foul on Hélder Costa (£5.0m).

Line-up Lessons

Stuart Dallas (£5.0m) returned to central midfield against Southampton although only after another enforced change for Bielsa.

The Northern Ireland international started the game at left-back once again, the Leeds’ cause helped by Llorente making only his third appearance since joining in the summer.

“(Llorente starting is) necessary in this moment and we hope he can show the qualities that brought him here.” – Marcelo Bielsa

However, Dallas still found his way to central midfield thanks to an injury to Mateusz Klich (£5.2m) in the second half.

With Pascal Struijk (£3.9m) occupying the Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) in defensive midfield, Ezgjan Alioski (£4.4m) was the nearest replacement with Dallas able to step forward.

Like Raphinha, he was also unlucky not to get an even bigger haul. It was Dallas who played Bamford for that chance he tried to move onto Roberts before the forward missed another Dallas key pass in the 52nd minute, forcing a good save from McCarthy.

Still, that shift forward allowed Dallas to get involved the goals all the same, toe-poking an edge-of-the-box strike beyond McCarthy after a Costa cross in the 78th minute.

Leeds United XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Dallas, Cooper, Llorente, Ayling; Struijk; Harrison (Costa 46′), Roberts (Hernandez 75′), Klich (Alioski 59′), Raphinha; Bamford.

Southampton XI (4-2-2-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, Vestergaard, Salisu, Bednarek; Tella (Minamino 58′), Romeu (Djenepo 70′), Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond (Ings 58′), Adams.

    Repost:

So I had thought to bring in Kane yet now I’m having doubts!

I can get Kane in for no hit and play Grealish hoping he plays or take a minus four and get son and Calvert lewin so I guess the question is:

    A) Calvert Lewin & Son for a -4
    B) Kane & Grealish hoping Grealish plays for no hit!

    Help and thoughts appreciated

I’m not sure Grealish plays so would have to be A. Would prefer Kane over son though.

    IN... Gundogan/Kane/Elmohamady

Worth a -8 (got all my chips still)
    Gives me...

    *Johnson
    *Cancelo *Lowton *Elmohamady
    *Sterling *Gundogan *Salah *Bruno Raphinha
    *DCL *Kane

Or save the -8 and just wildcard, build something much better (prevents me using triple captain)

Current BB is (the starting XI are all DGWers):

    Areola Bamford Raphinha Dallas

    Have 1FT, and 0itb...

Is it worth using the FT on any of the Leeds players to a DGWer?

Ithought Dallas to Targett but already have Konsa - does anyone have any other suggestions?

Exactly in the same boat, but have 2.5 ITB.

Considering Dallas to Pereira/ Digne. At 4.5 - 5 there are slim pickings.

I'd rather do Bamford to Watkins?

    A) Grealish & Button -> Johnstone & Barnes ( -4 )

    A) Ings and Bamford to Kane and Brewster-4 (all 11 starters will have DGW)
    B) Ings to DCL
Still have WC so can get Bamford back but will lose value.
A would be "shield" thing but I like DCL this GW so might go without Kane and TC Bruno.

All my chips left, thinking of BB this week, but would need to improve bench. No money ITB, though, so not many realistic moves without a 4 point hit.

    Current team:

    Pope
    Shaw, Targett, Rudiger, Stones
    Salah, Son, Bruno, Gundogan
    Bamford, Kane

    McCarthy, Lowton, Raphina, Antonio

Realistically, would need to shift McCarthy and Antonio to make BB worthwhile, but shifting McCarthy doesn’t free up enough funds to get a replacement striker worth BBing for.

Toying with Son and Antonio to Barnes and DCL instead, but that leaves crappy McCarthy in goal for his 1 pointer.

Southampton have a double gameweek in 27 though ? so even though only 1 GW this week, get 2 next week ( granted Man City but miracles happen... )

I wouldn't lose son, could do Antonio -> watkins & McCarthy to Johnstone if you're set on changing keepers?

Don’t have any money to do that. If I sell Antonio I only have £6.3m to buy another striker and only £4.5 if I sell McCarthy. This is my problem.

I could play TC instead and save BB for another DGW.

    Martinez Areola

84 points. I did Antonio to Kane a week early as I wasn’t sure if I’d have anyone on the bench. Ends up Antonio plays and only Grealish from my worries didn’t play.
But I resisted the urge to get any Southampton players and my relatively differential keeper Meslier did well along with my favourite player of the season in Dallas and Bamford captain like most.
Big news, through in the Cup so very happy.

85 from WC team, solid. New GK Sanchez conceding two from the only two shots that Palace had was brutal!

      93 points.

Rough: Meslier og, brought in Ings for DCL
Smooth: Triple City defense, triple Leeds tonight (Meslier Dallas Bamford(c))

      Up to 25k.

      82 -4
      Up 40k to 379k

      Mee,Soucek,Antonio >> Dallas,Raphinia,Bamford (c) -4 worked out.
Mee > Dallas was dubious choice but paid off. Plus another gw 29 player in.

74pts. Good score but hurt by Meslier OG, Ings & Richarlison on bench.

Rough - More bench points. In 5 of last 6 weeks I’ve had no injuries but first sub has scored between 7-15pts ... the only week I actually need a sub was last week Grealish 2-pointer

      Smooth: 99 points, -4.

Rough: the -4 was for Richarlison-> Ings, so really it cost me 9 points. And will probably get rid of Ings now anyway.

      But I can't complain.

Decided to FH. Got me 89 points. Success I'd say since I had 0 Leeds players in my original team.

      Rough
no Dallas or Raphina, Ings fail, no bonus pts for Bamford

      Smooth
a full house of clean sheets, Barnes, Bruno & Bamford(c) helping me to 75pts and a very small 0.79% green arrow

Smooth: 101 points and a huge green arrow (not surprising from 800k mind you)

Most notably didn't own Bamford or Ings, didn't want to take a hit to get either as I'm keeping DCL and Watkins for their own doubles, and Raphinha was getting the armband so prepared to back against Bamford completely. Only transfer was Rodriguez to Raphinha (C), could've been an absolute mega captaincy haul but otherwise can't complain. Plus Double Burnley defence. Dallas. Sterling and Rashford actually doing something for once. A rare enjoyable gameweek.

Rough: pretty much an entire season of mistakes, disasters, injuries, cancelled fixtures and captaincy fails.

Rough; 66 points, another poor one. Should have played my bench boost but got talked out of it. Would have been 17 points extra. As things stood playing McCarthy over Pope was the only bad call. Didn't bring in Rafinha or Dallas as either move would prevent Kane this week.

Smooth; Stones, Bruno, Sterling, Bamford(c), held Antonio and brought in Struijk for Walker Peters.

      Smooth- 70, Bam(c), Dallas, Bruno.

Rough- Everyone else, Mitchell mixed messages.

Gw rank of 340! Bench boosted because I had no idea who to bench, so ended up getting 22 points on top of the usual suspects.

      114 all out, buzzing.

Huge gw with 108 points and some kind of justice because i used my BB in gw19 with these Leeds' players.
      Raphinha(c),Dallas,Bamford.
My transfers were Grealish+Antonio->Raphinha(c)+Ings. Best cs of the season for Pope+Mee,Sterling+Dias+Gundo,Bruno and Harvey "Legend" Barnes on my team.

      92 (-4)

Opted to do Gundo --> Raphinha over Coufal --> Dallas this week, meaning I didnt BB (Would've been Martinez - Antonio - Cancelo - Lowton).

Roughly 25 point swing.... ultimate sadness

      Wildcarded.
Sold Pope, Mee, Tarkowski, Digne, Sterling
Bought Martinez, Trent, Pereira, Shaw, Harrison
      That's a points swing of -30

Somehow, thanks to Raphinha (c), I scraped a tiny green arrow.

      Oh and I benched Pickford.

      Wildcarded.

      My transfers (starting-11) transfers consisted of: Pope/Dias/Rashford/Antonio/Richarlison -> Areola/Shaw/Son/Ings/Kane = 27 points lost.

      On a positive note, I scored 80 points and I'm up from 4.3k -> 4.0k.

91 and a green arrow so
      Smooth

Partially erases a catastrophic 23/24 so still a bit Rough.

On a WC, made the last-minute decision to change Barnes and Ings to Son and Watkins with BGW29 in mind, so missed the Barnes haul but hopeful it will pay off over the next 4-5 GWs (especially if Villa double again).

Had Aina and Stones on the bench with Shaw, Gundo, Salah, Son and Kane all blanking.

62pts, OR 20k red arrow down to 36k but BB this week with 13 doublers and have 8-10 players ready for BGW29 so hoping it's a post-WC blip that will be recovered.

After a seemingly horrendous wildcard last week where I scored 80 points (My non WC team would have scored ~105) I bounced back this week playing my bench boost as planned to score 110 points and a GW rank of 1,909

My story is much the opposite of many. The week started so promisingly with Leeds players blanking and Minamino scoring.

But yesterday was a horrible day.

Every man(ager) and his/her dog/cat/guinea pig owned Bamford Raphinha and Dallas, while I owned no Leeds players.

Instead I owned 3 Saints players: McCarthy, who conceded 3, and Ings (captain) and Minamino, who were inexplicably both benched, playing a fruitless 32 mins each.

I have to be content with Minamino's 10 points, having sold Saka (2) to buy him.

However, I also sold Richarlison (8) for Kane (2), keeping DCL (4), while captaining Ings over Fernandes cost another 9 points.

My final miss was benching Stones (6) for TAA (2).

I ended up with 52 points with a GR of 4.4m. Dropped back out of the top 1m.

Rough - swapped out Tarkowski to Struijk, which cost me a point but did free up some cash for this week's transfers so not that rough at all really

      Smooth - Captained Dallas 😎

Rough: Swapped Sterling to DeBruyne for a hit.
Antonio, Dias, Digne on the bench for 21 points

Smooth: Ended up with 10 DGW players for GW26
Leeds trio doing well and Burnley 3x CS

90 -8 so not too bad

Rough :: Played McCarthy over Pope and Barnes injury
      Smooth ::
Took a -4 for Dallas and Raphinha
      + Captain Bamford
      86 -4 40k green arrow

      Maybe. Ancelotti rotating defenders.
Mina has to come back in
I’d rather go Coleman for attacking threat but same rotation risk.

    Martinez / 3.9
    Dias / Cancelo / Digne / Rudiger / White
    Bruno / Salah / Gundogan / Barnes / ESR
    DCL / Vardy / Kane

Latest WC draft. Most unsure about Vardy as he's already trolled me plenty this season. Is opting for Diagne over Vardy lunacy?
