Scoutcast Episode 368 – FPL managers set for biggest ever Double Gameweek

Joe is joined by David and Karam to look at the key issues facing Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Double Gameweek 26.

With 14 teams playing twice and six more having a single fixture, this looks to be the biggest Double Gameweek in FPL history.

There’s a lot for the Scoutcast crew to take in, with chips and captaincy among some of the issues to consider.

They also have to plan for future Double and Blank Gameweeks and still ensure they target the right players for the weekend.

Luckily, Karam is on hand to help frame the discussion as he unleashes his Wildcard.

Are Everton and Tottenham assets the best to target for the captaincy this time around, especially with such favourable fixtures? Or are more reliable premium assets such as Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) a shrewder pick?

And what of the cast of low-owned gems to consider, with Leicester’s Harvey Barnes (£6.9m) already being picked up by thousands of FPL managers ahead of the weekend.

Our trio take time to recap on their Gameweek 25 scores too, as well as frisk the fixtures over the next month and firm up their transfer and captaincy plans.

For Karam especially, he is hoping he can set up a team for a number of weeks, not just the impending set of fixtures. This is especially important as he prepares for his wedding next month – many congratulations from all at the Scoutcast ahead of his special day.

Who would you pick this week?

    A) Aina and Watkins? (Would also keep Ings for the double)

    B) DCL + Regulion -4

    Current team (playing BB):

    Martinez/McCarthy
    Dias/Cancelo/Shaw/Rudiger/Dallas
    Salah/Bruno/Gundo/Maddison/Raphinha
    Kane/DCL/Bamford

Any obvious moves? I’m considering another keeper, Digne, H Barnes & Watkins. I’m not too fussed about hits as it’s a DGW.

They are waiting for EL draw. If Arsenal or Spurs have to play on Wednesday night in the midweek between GW28-29 then its unlikely to happen.
If that TV slot is free on Wednesday then there is a chance of DGW28.

We might have Koch back by then, and if Llorente can stay fit too I think Struijk has a fair bit of competition. He has been decent at CB, could hang onto the spot, but I wouldn't say he's nailed.

I'd like to think the days of trying him in the Phillips role are over, too: don't think he's there yet.

True but even after Athletic game I still see Chilwell lurking. Chelsea have United and Pool and Fulham have Palace and Spurs and he'll bring me to 6 BGWers. Alonso has a big attacking upside though.

I have 10 doublers and a route to get 10 players for BGW29.

I have most of the essential attacking assets for 26 - Salah, Bruno, Gundo, Son and DCL, but not Kane.

To bring in Kane I have to take out Salah for a -4.

    Or

Wildcard to strip my defence down to cheaper options, but have all the main attacking options including Kane. I'll have 9 for BGW29.

    Should I

    1) Go without one of Salah/Kane and hold my wildcard to GW31 when there is a fixture swing?

    2) Attack the double with all the main assets for GW26 and deal with GW31 fixture swing when it arrives?

I'd probably say 1 - sounds like you've got long term plans sorted and maybe not worth messing up to miss out on one asset

    2. OleGGMU
      • 5 Years

Perhaps son + fwd to barnes/cheaper +kane otherwise think option 1 is fine, wildcarding for just one asset is not a good reason to

What are the thoughts on preference for partnering with Kane. All strikers will play in 26

    a) Bamford and Watkins (no change)
    b) Bamford and DCL (-4)
    c) Watkins and DCL (-4)

I feel reasonably placed for 29. Have a lot of value tied up in long term midfield picks and feel like defence will be well set so wouldn't be against DCL out in GW29 and then get him back in 30.

Bamford out also allows possibility of Raphina in GW29 (have Dallas and Meslier)

    Digne | Cancelo | Shaw
    Salah | Gündogan | Bruno | Son | Raphinha

The order you've got here looks fine. Mee has a double so you should play him. I'd then go Raphinha over Bamford. If you watched the last 2 Leeds games you just know he will have a big haul soon. He was unlucky not to get +20pts vs Southampton.

Used WC last week with intention to BB this week, but is it worth a hit to get an extra DGW'er?

    A) Ings + Struijk -> DCL + 4.7 (-4)
    B) Ings + Burn -> DCL + 5.0 (-4)
    C) Ings + Bamford -> DCL + Watkins (-4)
    D) Ings -> DCL

Do I need to use my WC if I can do Robbo, Raph & Antonio > Kane, Barnes & Holgate for a -4?
I would rather sell Soucek and keep Raph but not enough funds.

    Cancelo - Stones - Robbo
    Salah - Bruno - Gundo - Raph
    DCL - Bamford - Antonio

    Pope - Dallas - Soucek - Coufal

    Current squad:

    Martinez (Pope)
    Cancelo Digne Shaw (Ayling Mitchell)
    Salah Bruno Son Gundo (Soucek)
    Antonio Ings Bamford

How does this look for GW26 with -8 hit?

Ayling, Antonio, Ings > Keane, Watkins, DCL

To make 13 DGWers and playing BB26. Still have all chips available so will FH29.

I find that I'm tussling heavily with form vs fixtures this week.

Villa and Spurs are two of the best teams to invest in fixture wise. But they have been in middling/bad form and it's quite frustrating because I really want to go heavy on them.

They have very good doubles of lee/shu and BUR/ful and they also have a game in 29 which is important for me to consider because I'm out a FH.

Villa also have a possible DGW in 28 against Everton which could catch a lot of unprepared managers out (and it would be a really good one for both of them too - new/EVE for Villa and BUR/avl for Everton).

Form wise, the teams to go for are Leicester, United, Leeds. Barnes, Shaw, Rashford, Raphinha, Bamford etc. It's a tough balance to strike.

I’m going Kane-less as I really think Spurs fixtures are tougher than people think.
Spurs slump; Fulham & Burnley will look to capitalise.

I agree with you about the Spurs fixtures being tougher than people think. Both games look like 1-0 at best.

I'm in the same dilemma. I had a plan to bring in 3 Villa and 3 Spurs. I'll probably have 2 Spurs and no Villa for the double and maybe bring in 2 Villa for 29. Difficult to navigate GW29 without owning Spurs and Villa unless you have FH chip.

Captaincy is a two horse race this week

    Bruno or DCL?

Do Everton tend to struggle against bottom teams? Bruno 2 away games looks good but quite boring...

Gundogan. We already saw what he could do in 68 minutes vs Spurs. This fear of rotation shouldn't dissuade you from picking one of the most in-form assets playing for the best team in the league.

KDB back has discouraged me from doing so, that and the rotation risk. City are not in the question for captaincy this week imo, too many better options out there that will play 180mins

    Martinez
    Konsa Stones Cancelo
    Salah Son Bruno Raphina Gunda
    Bamford Ings

    Steele Antonio Tarkowski Dallas

    A) Ings and Antonio to Kane and 4.4m
    B) Ings and Cancelo to Kane and 3.9m
    C) Summat else but what?
    Debating triple captain Kane

    Cheers

    On WC 0.5m ITB

    Martinez
    Cancelo Stones Digne Targett
    Barnes Salah Gundo Bruno
    DCL Kane

    3.9 - Bamford White ESR

This is about the best I can stretch to with my cash I figure, no FH for 29 so need to have a sizable contingent that play that week.
Not 100% on double Villa defence, but probably the best call considering they double in 26 and play in 29.
    Any major changes to consider?
