Dugout Discussion

Dubravka returns as Newcastle host Wolves in Double Gameweek 26

Martin Dúbravka (£4.8m) makes his first Premier League start of the season as Newcastle host Wolves in Double Gameweek 26.

The Slovakian international has missed much of the campaign through injury and finally wrestles the starting berth from Karl Darlow (£5.0m).

That makes for an interesting shift in the Newcastle squad ahead of their involvement in Blank Gameweek 29, when they face a Brighton side with just one goal in their last three.

Callum Wilson (£6.5m) remains on the sidelines for the Magpies, Joelinton (£5.7m) leading the attack tonight with Allan Saint-Maximin (£5.1m), Joe Willock (£4.7m) and Miguel Almirón (£5.6m) in support.

Wolves have gone under the radar for Double Gameweek 26 investment, largely because their second fixture takes them to Manchester City.

Accordingly, backers of Pedro Neto (£5.7m) will be looking to tonight’s fixture in expectation, the Wolves man currently in 7.1% of teams worldwide.

He starts on the left-hand side of Wolves’ front-three, joined there by Willian Jose (£7.0m) and Adama Traoré (£6.0m).

Max Kilman (£4.0m) remains a substitute and awaits his first start since Gameweek 23 with Romain Saïss (£4.9m), Conor Coady (£4.8m) and Leander Dendoncker (£4.6m) in the back-three.

Double Gameweek 26 Line-ups

Newcastle United XI: Dúbravka; Lewis, Clark, Lascelles, Krafth; Hayden, Shelvey; Saint-Maximin, Willock, Almirón; Joelinton.

Wolves XI: Patrício; Saïss, Coady, Dendoncker; Jonny, Neves, Moutinho, Semedo; Neto, Willian J, A Traoré.

Double Gameweek 26 so far…

Aston Villa demonstrated that they do not necessarily need Jack Grealish (£7.6m) to win Premier League matches as they beat Leeds 1-0.

Anwar El Ghazi (£5.3m) has been afforded more game-time in the England international’s absence and he took his chance on Saturday afternoon.

He latched onto the end of Ollie Watkins‘ (£6.5m) wayward shot in the first half, cutting the ball under an on-rushing Illan Meslier (£4.7m).

Leeds were unable to build on their 3-0 win over Southampton in Double Gameweek 26, their key assets faltering in their only match of the round.

With Patrick Bamford (£6.9m), Raphinha (£5.4m) and Stuart Dallas (£5.0m) all failing to register points, it was Emiliano Martínez (£5.3m) who emerged with another big haul thanks to a clean sheet, three saves and maximum bonus. A familiar story.

Meanwhile, Matt Targett (£4.9m) and Ahmed El Mohamady (£4.3m) also benefited from the shutout, although each was booked and lost a respective point.

Only 16 points from first match day, 9 by Martinez.

Easily lagging behind by 20-30 points already. Sigh.

Yes 20.7 (after hits) with effectively 19.5 players to go

Not everyone owns Johnstone, Martinez, Dias, Stones & Watson honestly!

Also a lot of people who played bench boost who’d’ve been hoping for a bit more from their SGW Leeds players.

I 'was' at 80k. Unluckily my ML (I led by 30 pts) rivals, many of them have Martinez, Man City CBs, Johnstone, even Watkins.

Need Kane & DCL 'do' something.

Thing is Brighton are about to drop right to the bottom of the ticker. They look great in the 2 BGWs in 29 and 33 but apart from that really poor.

In two minds whether those 2 fixtures are worth it. I'm weak at the back as it is and don't need to be carrying another fodder there

I was looking at that too. And yes, apart from them playing in 29 Brighton has really poor fixtures. I think Arsenal is a good option. Apart from 4, have some decent fixtures till the end of the season.

Just some Toon perspective on Darlow/Dubravka.

At the start of a season, Dubravka is the better option if both fit... but Darlow has been literally our player of the season and the single position that's not an issue in our side. A strong manager should have been building his confidence and pushing him for an England squad spot. Dubravka is better, but coming in cold to a position that didn't need changing? Meanwhile Joelinton, Shelvey and Lewis have been garbage for months and don't get dropped. Bruce is awful.

Anything could happen in this game, but Darlow being dropped is outrageous.

Agree. Besides the 'mistake' on Rashford goal, he has been immense this season.
Bruce comments and him dropping after that seems harsh.

I'd sooner blame the defenders for the few things Darlow isn't nailing - he's been immense you're right.
The biggest joke for me is how awful some of the outfielders are, and they play each week. Why Gayle doesn't start ahead of Joe baffles me.

Thought hard about one of these 3 potential moves..

    Bamford to Watkins
    Dallas to Targett
    Soucek to El Ghazi

Was put off Watkins by the rumours..
Went Targett eventually..Not bad start but in hindsight should have gone El Ghazi..
Not because he scored..I may want Dallas more than Soucek in GW29..

Well anyway let's hope captain Kane explodes..

I'm a bit surprised by the amount of people who captained (and TC'd) Kane. Knew he would be popular choice obviously, but I expected the EO of DCL, Bruno and even Salah to be higher with TC chips in play.

As a cancelo dias and gundog owner could be a v tough captain call for gw27 - particularly is gundog starts midweek

Not willing to get kdb in for a hit and lose Bruno....

May end up with a choice of rotation risk gundog and cancelo or kane with a single game v Palace....

Very early thoughts at the moment are Kane(c) vs Palace.

Any of Stones, Gundog, Cancelo, even Dias might only play 1 match and the United fixture is very tough to predict. Wouldn't like to captain a defender with the risk of them playing just one fixture vs United.

Manchester derby could be cagey 0-0..

It could well be a cagey 0-0.

Just thinking of a normal week, would you captain a defender playing against United (the highest scoring team in the league this season?) If we knew Dias or Cancelo were sure to play both fixtures, they might be worth considering, but there is potentially a big risk of rotation.

            Not any other team..
But City defence is a different level altogether..
But as you said rotation risk is putting me off too..
Kane may be a good shout..

    On Wildcard this week
Good - 29 from 6, with 18 players to go
    Bad - Bartley 1st Sub
Would love Cancelo to miss 2nd game but I know it won’t happen!

I got Ricardo Pereira after a long debate between him, Digne and Reguilon.

Pereira has great fixtures and a DGW this week and is possibly OOP. Digne is a good option and may have an extra game in GW28, but not sold on Everton defense. Reguilon has great fixtures and vitally a GW29 fixture but I'm afraid he will share minutes with Davies and I'd be concerned that he hasn't ever really nailed down his starting spot yet.

Trent did briefly cross my mind.

Don't really like the fixtures, he doesn't play in GW29 and I'd still be wary of possible rotation with Chilwell. At the moment Alonso seems first choice but doesn't mean he will play every match of a packed schedule.

Thinking beyond 29 Wolves may be a shout. From 31 -35 they have an almost perfect run.

Not quite sure who's properly nailed there

Is this the lowest effective ownership game ever?

Not a single player in Newcastle vs Wolves has an effective ownership above 1% in the top 10k

I was looking at netto but went Barnes instead. Wolves look good from 31 and if it wasn’t a DGW (Where they play citeh) would have backed them for this.

Tell you what guys, just looking at next week, and for those with BB left it could be a great time to play it!

I’m going to have a massive benching headache if I don’t play it!

        Martinez | Bamford | Dallas | Lowton

        McCarthy
Cancelo | Vestergaard | El Mohamady
        KdB | Bruno | Son | Gundogan | Pereira
        Kane | DCL

          Playing McCarthy 🙂

That looks a weak bench to me. WH are a form team after all

I wouldn't play McCarthy over Martinez - still less Vestergaard (hadn't spotted him) over Dallas. It's not really a DGW for them at all barring miracles.

True, so were Leicester though and Leeds went there and tore them a new one.
I really like Leeds on the road this season

I had a straight choice of Kane and DCL, and went with the later because of those ankles.

Missed the game, didn't know about it.

Luckily I have a backup GK.

Unfortunately it's Dirty Sanchez & Brighton's propensity to concede randomly.

Did Martinez pick up an injury? Saw Smith said somehow about him struggling with tightness in groin or something similar

Double Villa defence on BB, expected the CS against Sheffield, but I'll take it. everyone has him anyway it hardly matters
