Scoutcast Episode 369 – Tackling Manchester City’s underwhelming double

Joe is joined by Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy and FPL Family’s Lee to look at the key issues facing Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Double Gameweek 27.

Last Gameweek was the biggest in FPL history, with 14 teams playing twice. This time around it’s a different matter. Only Manchester City and Southampton enjoy two fixtures, while the regulation single match awaits the other teams.

Joe, Lee and Andy consider the best strategies of approaching this underwhelming Double Gameweek.

There’s a particular focus on Pep Guardiola’s troops, who host big-six low-scoring draw specialists Manchester United on Sunday, ahead of Southampton’s visit.

Are Fantasy Premier League managers’ current trio of City assets among the best armband shouts, or is the relatively low-owned Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) worth bringing in?

To acquire the Belgian chance-creator-in-chief, a premium sacrifice needs to be made in midfield. For Andy, the 60%-owned Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) could very well make way.

Elsewhere, the Liverpool half of FPL Family, Lee, is forced to introduce a section in praise of Tottenham Hotspur and the strong form of Gareth Bale (£9.3m). This will no doubt be eagerly watched by his Spurs-supporting wife, Sam.

Meanwhile, Leicester’s kind run of games continues. But with their main creators injured, who is left to assist Foxes’ marksman Jamie Vardy (£10.2m)?

Our trio look at their Gameweek 26 so far during the show, which took place via our  YouTube channel on Tuesday night as City prepared to kick off against Wolverhampton Wanderers. They also reveal their captaincy and transfer plans for the week ahead.

There are fixtures to frisk, a differential to choose and the crew pay tribute to their podcast colleague Luke and his audacious assault on Gameweek 26.

Playing my main rival in h2h league, so thinking of Mitchell, Barnes, fernandes > Bale, dias, grealish for a -8 and hitting the BB, thoughts? Am I being crazy???

    Martinez
    Dias, Targett, Shaw
    Salah, Bruno, Gundo, Son, Barnes
    Kane, Watkins

    Areola, Bamford, Rudiger, Struijk

1FT and 0.2 in the bank

Without free hit and looking to prepare for BGW29. Think I need to replace Barnes sooner rather than later and would love to hear some suggestions of replacements (Foden? Raphinha?). Would also love to somehow fit Reguilon into this side.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated 🙂

It looks like Raphinha or Lingard.

In similar position, I'm selling Barnes for Lingard I think as I can cover him missing 28.

yeah me included. Basically Salah and Fernandes for KDB gives me a DGW27 and cover for GW29.

if KDB had been more involved in the goals last night, and not played 90mins, I would have been more tempted.

Is Cancelo & Bruno to Rudiger & KDB(c) worth a hit?
Means benching Barnes this week for Burn (LEI).

Or would you captain Gundo, keep Cancelo & Bruno and sell Barnes for Raphinha for free?

B by a mile. KdB will definitely be rested in at least 1 of the next 2 games imo.

Yeah that makes sense. Hard to believe KDB starts next 3 PL games after coming back from a hamstring injury.

I agree- bringing in Kdb is enough for a differential, but likely will be rested for Southampton with their schedule. Gundo looks almost a good bet to start both games

Mee to Targett a sensible move this week? Or Konsa and use the saving to upgrade Struijk

Wait until the games are over, as any injuries may dictate your moves...in principle Targett is a good upgrade given that he plays 29, but i wouldn’t do it if you already own Martinez

    2. Karan14

      Yeah its a decent move.
If you need the funds get Konsa

If you had to bench one who would it be ?
    A. Bamford
    B. Raphina
    C. DCL
    D. Bruno

Decide after the fixtures this week- but on current display, probably DCL given how good Tuchel’s Chelsea are defensively

      Bamford

One Leeds enough I suspect and Raph is the one to be on. DCL has recent returns against United and Liverpool (I know) and Everton also scored against City.

I currently only have two Man City players (Cancelo & Gundo), will have three after my WC in gmk 30.

Is it worth a -4 to bring in another for their next gameweek? They have three games in seven days, so it feels unlikely whoever I bring in will get a DGW anyway... Ederson the only guarantee, and I'm happy with my keepers.

Pep roulette, so it feels a bit of a trap- unless you bring in ederson

Yeah, this is my thinking. I reckon it's the fakest DGW for a long time. Majority of players will be rotated.

Gundo/cancelo I think are well placed to start both though having said that

Yeah, hard to tell isn't it...
I'd normally have taken a hit to bring in a 3rd, but if they're only gonna get a SGW in reality, you're right, feels pointless.

not madness but getting him back could get tricky

Bruno (manc, WHM) still looks better than Lingard (LEE, xxx)

I'll have the money ITB to get him back for Raphinha after GW30. Plus I'd have no benching headache in GW28 given that Lingard won't play!

If it's a FT then it's not bad at all. With three City players you're going to want a decent playing bench.

    2. pingissimus
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 26 days ago

      Simply depends on your bench

He'll surely get one next time which is all we can say of anyone apart from Ederson. If you have a decent bench going forward and 29 isn't an issue then he is the next best value attacker after Gundo.

If you have 2 of Bamford DCL Antonio alongside Kane up top and a decent 4th defender I don't see much risk attached actually. City assets aren't matching their value in the way you'd expect given their league position.

      1. pingissimus

Should add City have turned around their form up front in the last 8-10. They average close to 3 goals a game which matches the form of the last 2 seasons. The second attacker makes sense now in a way it didn't in weeks 1-18 where they averaged less than 2 a game.

It's come to that time in the season when I'm considering getting Pepe again. He has 3 goals in his last 6 games. He's started all but one and has actually looked much better.

    7.6m isn't too bad a price. Crazy?

The last time I got Pepe in my team the league was halted for 4-5 months.

Yes, crazy I'd say. Surely options like Grealish, 2nd Spurs mid, Raphinha etc are all just as likely to get points but with lower volatility aren't they?

Is Barnes and Richarlison to Son and Maja worth -4? Maja would be benched this week but I'd probably bench Richarlison anyway against Chelsea.
