Latest on Antonio, Lingard and Soucek as Masuaku enjoys advanced role at Wolves

WOLVES 2-3 WEST HAM

  • Goals: Leander Dendoncker (£4.6m), Fábio Silva (£5.2m) | Jesse Lingard (£6.3m), Pablo Fornals (£5.8m), Jarrod Bowen (£5.9m)
  • Assists: Adama Traoré (£6.0m), Pedro Neto (£5.7m) | Vladimir Coufal (£4.6m), Arthur Masuaku (£4.3m), Lingard
  • Bonus points: Lingard x3, Dendoncker x2, F Silva x1, A Traoré x1

JESS SAYIN’

Jesse Lingard (£6.3m) continued his impressive run of form with a ninth and tenth attacking return of the season in West Ham’s 3-2 win at Wolves.

The Manchester United loanee has enjoyed quite the renaissance since his Hammers debut in Gameweek 22, already amassing 18.2% ownership worldwide.

During that time no Premier League player has been involved in more goals than Lingard (10), who has produced four double-digit hauls, a total of 68 points in eight appearances (8.5 points per game).

“It’s just consistency I think. I’ve obviously not played for the past two years, I think. So to play week-in, week-out and keeping up form but the team has helped me tremendously.” – Jesse Lingard

The question facing Fantasy Premier League managers not in possession of the England international is whether or not he can sustain this form, especially with Leicester and Chelsea two of West Ham’s next three opponents.

After Monday night’s win at Molineux, there are two factors to consider here.

The other factor is what happens elsewhere in the West Ham team, considering Michail Antonio (£6.7m) went off injured against Wolves…

MICKY PLEASE BE FINE

David Moyes is waiting to assess potential damage to Antonio’s hamstring after he was forced off 36 minutes into West Ham’s Gameweek 30 outing.

The player has a history of muscle injuries, especially in recent seasons, hence the manager’s concern.

As things stand, West Ham’s doctors need to take a closer look before confirming whether or not he will miss the Gameweek 31 meeting with Leicester.

“We’re not sure yet. We’ll assess it tomorrow. He doesn’t feel too bad just now but we’ll check it tomorrow and see what it is. It looks as if he’s felt his hamstring, so we’ll need to check it out.” – David Moyes

“Mick felt his hamstring a little bit and we’ve just got to hope it’s nothing too bad, but if you’re a West Ham supporter know you all about Mick’s hamstrings, so we’ve got to be really wary of it.” – David Moyes

Antonio played a key role in Lingard’s impressive solo goal against Wolves, making a clever run to distract defenders and open up space for him to run into.

While Jarrod Bowen (£5.9m) scored as the centre-forward’s replacement, the former Hull man naturally offers less physical presence up-top compared to Antonio.

Therefore, owners of Lingard, or potential suitors, will need to keep an eye on how West Ham’s number 30 develops fitness-wise between now and Friday’s FPL deadline.

Meanwhile, there were also mild injury concerns about Lingard himself, who appeared to be struggling in the late stages of Monday’s win.

However, it has since been confirmed that he was suffering nothing more than cramp after a coming together while Tomas Soucek (£5.3m) got a cut on his ankle. We understand neither player required further assessment on Tuesday morning.

“Tomas (Soucek) has a cut in the ankle and Jesse (Lingard) got raked, but unfortunately we are just getting a few injuries.” – David Moyes

AND I SAY HEY

Monday night was a match for the formational-change purists as both West Ham and Wolves were forced into new shapes on the back of recent injuries.

Owners of Aaron Cresswell (£5.9m) perhaps have the most cause for frustration as his 28.6% backing watched him take on a more conservative role at Molineux as the Hammers often moved into a back-five when out of possession.

One of the reasons for that shift was Arthur Masuaku‘s (£4.3m) return to the team for a first start since Gameweek 11.

Prior to his injury, Cresswell would often play as the left-sided centre-back in a three-man defence with Masuaku and Vladimir Coufal (£4.6m) taking up wing-back duties.

Fantasy managers should certainly keep an eye on how that situation develops as they consider the best way to invest in West Ham’s defence between now and the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Wolves were forced into two late defensive changes in Gameweek 30.

Jonny (£5.4m) is now out for the season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training while Willy Boly (£5.4m) was ruled out on the morning of the game by a positive coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Jonny had a difficult injury on the right knee. It requires surgery so he will be missing the rest of the season. It’s tough, especially for him, besides he’s an important player and an important member of the squad.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

At such a late hour, and with other defensive shortages this season, Nuno did not have the option to revert to Wolves’ traditional three-man defence, and had to field Rayan Aït-Nouri (£5.0m) at left-back while Romain Saïss (£4.9m) had a poor game in a two-man central defensive pairing with Conor Coady (£4.8m).

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (4-2-3-1): Patrício; Aït-Nouri (Hoever 90′), Saïss, Coady, Semedo; Neves, Dendoncker; A Traoré, Podence (F Silva 46′), Neto; Willian J (Vitinha 72′).

West Ham United XI (3-4-2-1): Fabianski; Cresswell, Diop, Dawson; Masuaku (B Johnson 67′), Noble, Soucek, Coufal; Lingard, Fornals (Benrahma 78′); Antonio (Bowen 36′).

Optimal formation structure on WC. Leaning towards 3-5-2 myself with Antonio injured.

Are any teams worth tripling up on, Liverpool perhaps?

If you had a WC and FH, would you use the FH in 33 and prepare the WC accordingly, or does that look sub-optimal as you can prepare for 33 with 2 free transfers?

Does Aguero become a viable option for those wildcarding? City have the league essential wrapped up, plenty of fixture congestion till the end of the season and Aguero seems to be leaving the league at the end of the season. Looks like Pep will give Aguero the rest of the league games as a farewell gift. Time to bring him in and captain vs an open Leeds side?

Just came up with this WC draft. Comments?

    Patricio (Forster)
    Rudiger Dias Kabak (Cresswell Veltman)
    Salah Bruno Jota Lingard Son*
    Kane Wood (Iheanacho)

Son will likely to be replaced by a one-week captain punt (Mahrez etc) depends on midweek lineups, then transfer to Son for the dgw.

      Why Kabak instead of Phillips?

Love the Mahrez one-week punt, thinking of doing same if he's not playing against Dortmund.....

Did not watch Liverpool's matches recently so I'm not really sure who is the more nailed CB. Will defo go Phillips if they are pretty much the same.

    Rough:

    - 5 of my outfield players didn't play (ESR, Minamino, Cancelo, Stones, Gundogan), leaving me with 9 in my XI

    - one of those was Son (1) who was benched for the first half

    - captained Bruno (5) over Kane (13)

    - Everton triple-up should have paid out much more, with DCL failing to poach, Richarlison missing a host of chances, including a close one from a Digne assist-in-waiting, and Digne losing his clean sheet in the 86th minute to a toothless Palace team.

Smooth: Unexpected clean sheet and assist from Trent (12)

    Mendy ( Areola )

    Alonso - Dias - Perreira ( Awb, Coufal )

    Bruno - Son - Bale - Raphinha ( Soucek )

    Kane - DCL - Bamford

Still do not consider the hype over KDB. £11.9m and points per game of only 5.3, compared to Fernandez 7.1 and an "out of form" Salah 6.3.Maybe if FL changes its rules for awarding bonus for diving, squeeling and trying to get players booked at every opportunity as he did at Leicester, he would become a more attractive asset. It was pathetic.

My gameweek was decent with 54 points.

Auba > Havertz (what a colossal failure of a one week punt)
      Raphinha (C) as well.

WC'ing this week though so hopefully I can turn this around with triple Pool for the run-in.

      A so so 57

Smooth, probably Salah getting his first goal for a while as well as Watkins in his last game for me. Got Watkins and Coufal off my bench which was nice this week
Rough, tried to be clever with Raphinha captain rather than Kane. Alonso transfer punt looking decent with an early assist only to concede 5, hit the post again and lose an assist because Werner has realised it's better that he never shoots unless necessary.

A tiny green arrow but still a disappointing season overall

Smooth - All of my starting 11 played; feels like I am one of the only people playing this game who was so lucky
Rough - Lingard sitting first on my bench because all my starting 11 played.

      Smooth:
Playing my BB finally got me to the top of my work league for the first time this season.
I had Lingard on my bench so got his points.

      Rough:
I would have got Lingard's points anyway as my BB consisted of Stones 0, Gundogen 0, Dawson 0 and Areola 1.
I'm only winning my work league by 1 point.

      Rough
Bamford captain fail, Rudiger and Cancelo didn't play and my auto subs Dawson and Veltman scored 1pt between them, also Son 1pt cameo blocking Traore 5pts from the bench

      Smooth
my only transfer of the week was Saka to Lingard which worked out great, also Kanes double with Salah and Watkins breaking their drought helping me to a very decent 61pts and a small green arrow

Smooths: Scored 61, got a small green arrow
Roughs: Went into last night’s game needing 13pts from Lingard to reach the 6th round of the FFS Cup. All was going swimmingly until the 93rd minute when Lingard was booked for timewasting. Cup tie finished 61-61 and my oppo went through due to a higher OR. Gutted.

Decent 56 points, second green on the spin.

Rough; Brought in Son for Bale whom I only just got in last week for Sterling. Son also didn't start! Stones and Struijk no shows.

Smooth; Kane(c), Salah, Bruno, Coufal subbing in for Stones.

    Current WC draft:

    Mendy Forster
    Shaw Dias Rudiger Phillips Coady
    Salah Fernandes Son Jota Lingard
    Kane Iheanacho Vydra

    0.8 itb

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

      Looks really good

Perhaps Too much money in defence? - you don’t need 5 strong options

No TAA is the big omission so key question for many of us is Philips relative to TAA

Vydra is a punt but fine given your strong front 7

Thanks mate, well I could do:

Dias Son >> Holding KDB ?

The hardest part of wildcard is always the defence... anyone got strong views on what it should look like?

I’m broadly thinking for the 5 slots

    1. TAA/Philips
    2. Azpi/Rudiger
    3. Saiss/Coady
    4. Shaw/Reguillon/Targett
    5. Veltman/Holding

I think It all comes down to how essential TAA and Azpi are over Philips and Rudiger

      Trent, Coady, Rudiger, Shaw, Veltman

      I don't think it's hard personally.

Liverpool - TAA if you have the money or else Phillips
      United - Shaw
      City - Dias
      Chelsea - Rudiger
XX - This last slot is the only one I'm thinking about. Could be Holding, Coady, Konsa. 5th choice defender is probably not gonna play or be needed so leaning Konsa because he covers GW33 blank with WBA and has a DGW.

Ye I’m conscious of double hence targett/ Konsa
Veltman has a great GW33 fixture

        TAA vs Philips is big.
Do you think this is the area to compromise on if you don’t have the funds (ie just get Philips instead) rather than compromising on attackers?

I'm not paying extra for TAA. It's a lot of money I can't spare.

Thanks Camzy - appreciate the reply.

What are your thoughts on the 5th midfielder and 2 striker spots (assuming you have Kane, Son, Salah, Jota, Fernandes)

Lingard, Gundo, Neto, Iheanacho, DCL, Watkins all in my thoughts

No I don't think so. I expect Nacho to start but probably more likely to be subbed off if not performing. Maddison will replace Perez and play behind the front 2

Supposedly it shouldn’t impact him - Maddison will replace Perez

It’s Barnes who could impact Nacho if/when he is back

agree. he has had long spells of being terrible, with odd bursts of goals. don't expect it to continue. be surprised if he's in the side in a couple of weeks.

really tough one, Kane and one other (probably DCL, but none of them are inspiring), just go with a fodder as third striker and put the money in to someone like TAA.

                    Mendy (Forster)
                    Castagne Christensen Trent (Holding, Veltman)
                    Son Salah Jota Neto Lingard
                    Kane Vardy (Davies)

Enough money itb to move Son to Bruno after the double

Quick fire questions Thanks .. 1, is Philips over TAA worth it to free up cash elsewhere? 2, shaw or Dias? 3, is coufal best defender under 4.6?

TAA is worth it, much higher upside imo and its part of the season you need higher ceilings
Dias if you have an ok bench
I'm looking at Holding (luiz is out and arsenal have good fixtures) or Veltman (fixtures are meh but good def stats)

I think TAA is worth the extra, especially with options so limited up front and plenty of decent budget options like Lingard and Raphina available.
I'd probably get both but if just 1 then maybe Shaw
He's not a bad shout but depends how often you are planning to play them. Arsenal are pretty woeful but have great fixtures so Holding is an option for less. If your squad is strong elsewhere then I'd be tempted to juts get Mitchell and bank the extra, it's rare to need your 5th defender if the rest of your team is good. If you've got someone else as cheap as possible then you might want a playing option

    Areola
    Shaw Digne Stones
    KDB Fernandes Gundogan Raphinha Lingard
    Kane Watkins

    Martinez Bamford Dallas Burn
    2.6m 1FT

No WC left, happy to take a hit.

    A) Raphinha and Digne to Jota and TAA
    B) Raphinha and Burn to Jota and Phillips
    C) just Raphinha to Jota

still have BB, so need to lose Burn at some point.

Digne is frustrating. I own him and will get rid after this weeks game

Hi everyone. I've just joined up so please let me know if general posts should go somewhere else.

I need to beat my bitter FPL rival so welcome your thoughts on my plan

    Mendy, Areola
    Dallas, Cresswell, Konsa, Dias, Digne
    Gundo, Jota, Son, Rapha, Bruno
    Kane, Bamford, DCL

G31: 4 point hit for Trent (Jota just in for Bale)
G32: Gundo for Lingard, Reguilon for Digne. TC Kane
    G33: Free Hit
    G34+ TBC

Anyone else had Martinez all season and now irrationally afraid to drop him for Mendy?

It makes sense given defensive stats and fixtures so is a great chance to improve rank, but the dreaded EO of Villa defnence/Martinez is 100%+
