Latest on Antonio, Lingard and Soucek as Masuaku enjoys advanced role at Wolves

WOLVES 2-3 WEST HAM

  • Goals: Leander Dendoncker (£4.6m), Fábio Silva (£5.2m) | Jesse Lingard (£6.3m), Pablo Fornals (£5.8m), Jarrod Bowen (£5.9m)
  • Assists: Adama Traoré (£6.0m), Pedro Neto (£5.7m) | Vladimir Coufal (£4.6m), Arthur Masuaku (£4.3m), Lingard
  • Bonus points: Lingard x3, Dendoncker x2, F Silva x1, A Traoré x1

JESS SAYIN’

Jesse Lingard (£6.3m) continued his impressive run of form with a ninth and tenth attacking return of the season in West Ham’s 3-2 win at Wolves.

The Manchester United loanee has enjoyed quite the renaissance since his Hammers debut in Gameweek 22, already amassing 18.2% ownership worldwide.

During that time no Premier League player has been involved in more goals than Lingard (10), who has produced four double-digit hauls, a total of 68 points in eight appearances (8.5 points per game).

“It’s just consistency I think. I’ve obviously not played for the past two years, I think. So to play week-in, week-out and keeping up form but the team has helped me tremendously.” – Jesse Lingard

The question facing Fantasy Premier League managers not in possession of the England international is whether or not he can sustain this form, especially with Leicester and Chelsea two of West Ham’s next three opponents.

After Monday night’s win at Molineux, there are two factors to consider here.

The other factor is what happens elsewhere in the West Ham team, considering Michail Antonio (£6.7m) went off injured against Wolves…

MICKY PLEASE BE FINE

David Moyes is waiting to assess potential damage to Antonio’s hamstring after he was forced off 36 minutes into West Ham’s Gameweek 30 outing.

The player has a history of muscle injuries, especially in recent seasons, hence the manager’s concern.

As things stand, West Ham’s doctors need to take a closer look before confirming whether or not he will miss the Gameweek 31 meeting with Leicester.

“We’re not sure yet. We’ll assess it tomorrow. He doesn’t feel too bad just now but we’ll check it tomorrow and see what it is. It looks as if he’s felt his hamstring, so we’ll need to check it out.” – David Moyes

“Mick felt his hamstring a little bit and we’ve just got to hope it’s nothing too bad, but if you’re a West Ham supporter know you all about Mick’s hamstrings, so we’ve got to be really wary of it.” – David Moyes

Antonio played a key role in Lingard’s impressive solo goal against Wolves, making a clever run to distract defenders and open up space for him to run into.

While Jarrod Bowen (£5.9m) scored as the centre-forward’s replacement, the former Hull man naturally offers less physical presence up-top compared to Antonio.

Therefore, owners of Lingard, or potential suitors, will need to keep an eye on how West Ham’s number 30 develops fitness-wise between now and Friday’s FPL deadline.

Meanwhile, there were also mild injury concerns about Lingard himself, who appeared to be struggling in the late stages of Monday’s win.

However, it has since been confirmed that he was suffering nothing more than cramp after a coming together while Tomas Soucek (£5.3m) got a cut on his ankle. We understand neither player required further assessment on Tuesday morning.

“Tomas (Soucek) has a cut in the ankle and Jesse (Lingard) got raked, but unfortunately we are just getting a few injuries.” – David Moyes

AND I SAY HEY

Monday night was a match for the formational-change purists as both West Ham and Wolves were forced into new shapes on the back of recent injuries.

Owners of Aaron Cresswell (£5.9m) perhaps have the most cause for frustration as his 28.6% backing watched him take on a more conservative role at Molineux as the Hammers often moved into a back-five when out of possession.

One of the reasons for that shift was Arthur Masuaku‘s (£4.3m) return to the team for a first start since Gameweek 11.

Prior to his injury, Cresswell would often play as the left-sided centre-back in a three-man defence with Masuaku and Vladimir Coufal (£4.6m) taking up wing-back duties.

Fantasy managers should certainly keep an eye on how that situation develops as they consider the best way to invest in West Ham’s defence between now and the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Wolves were forced into two late defensive changes in Gameweek 30.

Jonny (£5.4m) is now out for the season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training while Willy Boly (£5.4m) was ruled out on the morning of the game by a positive coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Jonny had a difficult injury on the right knee. It requires surgery so he will be missing the rest of the season. It’s tough, especially for him, besides he’s an important player and an important member of the squad.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

At such a late hour, and with other defensive shortages this season, Nuno did not have the option to revert to Wolves’ traditional three-man defence, and had to field Rayan Aït-Nouri (£5.0m) at left-back while Romain Saïss (£4.9m) had a poor game in a two-man central defensive pairing with Conor Coady (£4.8m).

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (4-2-3-1): Patrício; Aït-Nouri (Hoever 90′), Saïss, Coady, Semedo; Neves, Dendoncker; A Traoré, Podence (F Silva 46′), Neto; Willian J (Vitinha 72′).

West Ham United XI (3-4-2-1): Fabianski; Cresswell, Diop, Dawson; Masuaku (B Johnson 67′), Noble, Soucek, Coufal; Lingard, Fornals (Benrahma 78′); Antonio (Bowen 36′).

See a lot of these wildcard teams with no Bruno or easy way to get him in, you do realise he has Burnley and Leeds in the next 3 and is top point scorer not some random bum LOL!!!

There's an argument for going without if you're chasing, especially if you want to captain Kane/Salah most weeks

Not going without him myself, but as always you can't have all the premiums and some people are backing the guy who's hardly played or the guy who's been average over Bruno

Is premium not just another word for overpriced with Lingard, Jota, Dallas, Gundogan, Maddison, Bamford, Grealish etc much better value than the previously reliable but costlier alternatives?

After shocking week need to change it up!

    Already moved Raphinha to Jota.

Do I compound this by doing Bale & either or Dallas Bamford > Salah, Williams or Nacho?

    Mendy,
    Rüdiger, Shaw, Dias,
    Son, Bale, Lingz, Jota, Bruno,
    Kane, Bamford,

    Martinez, Cresswell, Watkins, Dallas,

I think you've gotta shift one of Bamford, Bale and Watkins. Bale could still play the double in 32 so would probably hold.

Watkins Vs Pool or Bamford Vs City. I'd hold Watkins this week of the two. Bamford to Nacho

    Mendy Forster
    TAA Shaw Rudiger Holding Mitchell
    Salah Bruno Son Jota Lingard
    Kane Nacho Brewster

I guess Lingard could be Neto and then upgrade Holding to Coufal

I think those you have brought in are on most radars anyways and for the same players going out.
Also the fact you already own Salah is great as long as the rest of the team measures up.

    WC Team suggestions.
    Currently looking at

    Martinez, Leno
    Rudiger, Shaw, Cresswell, Coady, Dias
    Salah, Lingard, Fernandes, Son, Raphina
    Iheancho, Kane, Watkins.

Have alot of value in Martinez 0.5 / Cresswell 0.5 / Fernandes 0.3 who I assume people would suggest to drop?
Got 0.4 itb currently potentially will drop Fernandes for a Man City option for the week for captaincy band and bring Fernandes in next week again but this seems weird!

At this stage in the season money means nothing, You already have all the value in the team so time to put it to good use.
Well that's what i am doing at least, My team value is 108 which affords me players my rivals cannot.

Good team, like the Ihenacho pick. Do you still have BB left because your bench looks pricy? I think don't drop Bruno or pick any City player other than Ederson because they'll be rotated and they've the league won. Not expecting many Arsenal cleansheets so Leno to Forster (misses GW33) for 4m or likes if Sanchez or Johnstone around 4.5m. Leno means your leaving 0.5 to 1.0 m on bench each GW that you might use better elsewhere. Or downgrade Dias to a cheap playing 5th defender like Veltman to free up funds. Don't be worried at all about losing value because they're savings to be made etting cheaper mids like Lingard or Jota, Maddison, Grealish if he starts firing like he can for the pricier mids, cheaper mids might bring you both savings plus more points. On that theme Salah to Jota frees up a lot of cash.

Thanks for the feedback, I have gone with a resilient bench as with DGW potential and rotation in run up I wanted to cover my bases, dont have a BB, but also with Spurs blanking in GW 33 I wanted to have good backups for that week without having to drop my spurs assets.

Re Thia60 I was at around 108 now down to 107 as i dropped several high value players such as bamford, I dont need the value as you say but wouldnt drop martinez as i may want him back and had him all season etc and same with cresswell.

One week rest before today's game and then almost another 4 days of full rest before Leeds.

      Very few forward options.

Laca getting a bit of love due to fixtures but wouldn't touch personally.

Watkins, Bamford and DCL all rubbish with poor fixtures.

Vardy a pricey alternative but not offering anything better than Nacho.

Good afternoon to the fine people of Fantasy Football............Can I have your thoughts.

Can I have your thoughts on this WC.
    Martinez, Leno.
    Dias, TAA, Coady, Rudiger, Amartey
    Salah, Jota, Son, Lingard, Bruno.
    Kane, Nacho, Vydra,
    0.8 ITB

Happy with two keepers, had Martinez since GW1 and has a double, Leno great fixtures till the end of season. Not sure what I would do with the extra cash.
I had Antonio until he went off last night with a suspect Hammy.
    Lingard or Foden ??

I'm well out of the loop after moving house, seeing a lot of talk of WC. Is that the route I need to go down with the team below?

    Martinez (Sanchez)
Dias / Digne / Azpi (Dallas / Lowton)

      Your main problems are:

      - Bammy - as above
      - Raph - Lingard stealing the limelight and poor fixtures
      - Digne - have you seen Everton?

Confident I can still achieve my goal of improving my first season of 1m

Jota and vardy in for dcl and bale 😀

Lingard saved me again this week, I dropped from 150k - 200k could of been lot worse.
I already grabbed Jota for Raphinha & considering Bale & Leeds > Salah & Williams or Nacho?

I look at the downside vs upside, if the players coming in score more than the ones leaving + some worth it.

Yeah same, but I can't see him starting either of the two games. May not even come on as a sub if spurs are in control. Don't see the worth in him anymore tbh.

Thoughts on this WC? Think I'm nearly settled, just can't decide between Jota or Mount/Maddison.. thoughts?

    Mendy
    Dias - TAA - Shaw
    Salah - Bruno - Gundo - Lingaard - Jota
    Kane - Iheanacho

Bench: Martinez - Vydra - Coufal - Veltman

1.3m in the bank, on a WC.

I'd go Jota for sure. Personally I have same players on my mind. Going without Salah (may plan on bringing him in for 33 in place of Son) so my nailed three are Son Bruno and Jota. Other two are Mount, Gundo,

Yeah I do really like Jota, seems to be well in the points whenever he plays.. Maddison is less of a rotation risk when he's fit but not sure I fancy a double up with him and Nacho, although the choices for forwards at the moment is sparse.

I would think Nacho is good for starts for a few weeks. Being hauled off for Maddi at the weekend could be a sign, but could also be a factor of the team they were playing.

In current form I don't think Rodgers could drop him

Gundo not nailed, Jota not nailed. Yes, perhaps higher upside (Jota) or higher EO (Gundo) but I'm picking Lingard (form) and Mount or Maddison (both have something to play for, and are nailed on).

Jota not nailed, but given he's scored more since his return than the other three put together, plus the very really risk of Pool missing a top 4 place, you got to imagine Klopp would be crazy to drop him

Jota has 3 goals in his last two. Salah has 3 in last eight, Mane and Firmino none. For me that is enough to give confidence that he has the security of a lot of game time which was the crux of the point.

Yeah, good point. But this was during a Pool slump, with Salah/TAA out of form and Firmino injured.

My bet is that Pool pick themselves off the canvas, finish 3rd with Salah and TAA finishing strong and Jota coming on to rest the others...

Could still haul every week, but I'm not betting on it.

                      Dont disagree that could happen.

I think Jota will score at least half, if not more than half, the points of Salah and for half the price he gives me better points per £m and cash to have stronger options elsewhere (e.g. TAA at the back)

I'd appreciate some advice on the best thing to do here.
Essentially I've got a lead of 46 points in my ML with a wildcard left still, and the player in second has a very similar team, but with no wildcard.

In this instance would it be better to just concentrate on my team, ignoring his, or would you manage it by trying to stick with a similar team, and then wildcard if they get closer towards the end?
My team is below for reference as well.

    Martinez Sanchez
    Digne Cancelo Rudiger Dallas Veltman
    Salah Son Bruno Raphina Gundo
    Kane Bamford Watkins

    What do we reckon?
Rudiger, Salah, TAA, Phillips on my immediate wishlist atm.
Fine with a -4 or -8. Need a proper captain for next GW too.

    Martinez.
    Shaw, Dallas, Stones, Cresswell.
    Fernandes, Jota, Raphinha, Son, Odegaard.
    Kane.
    Steer, Bamford, Watkins, Burn.
1ft, 6.1m ITB. No chips left.
