What impact will Jonny’s injury have on Wolves clean sheet potential?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are having second thoughts about purchasing Wolves players ahead of the Gameweek 31 swing of fixtures.

Players such as Conor Coady (£4.8m) and Romain Saïss (£4.9m) have appealed strongly in the build-up to second-Wildcard season, especially with the obvious set-piece threat, but recent developments may have damaged their all-important clean sheet potential.

Defensive resilience seemed to have returned to the club with the reintroduction of Jonny Otto (£5.4m) in early February after a six month absence with a serious knee problem.

However, a hugely unfortunate reoccurrence of that injury in training raises the question, especially after Monday night’s slump at home to West Ham, of whether Wolves’ defensive assets can still be trusted for the FPL run in.

In this article, we shall use data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area to answer that question.

Mahrez and Jesus emerging as Man City's key form assets

It’s unbelievable how many people have absolute and blind faith in Salah! Before it was “he’s still the highest scorer...now what? He might come through but I’m just saying if other players had such a drought they would be dropped quick

I'm not sure Vardy is worth the extra over Nacho tbh. He hasn't done a huge amount recently to justify his price.

The extra 5m could be better spent elsewhere imho.

e.g. Dias, Cresswell, & Shaw instead of Coady, Holding and Veltman.

    Current WC draft.

    Ederson, Forster
    Coady, Holding, Rudiger, Phillips, 4.9?
    Salah, Jota, Bruno, Neto, Son
    Bamford, Kane, Iheanacho

What are peoples thoughts on this?

I have gone a bit cheap in defence but I would feel very uncomfortable going without Kane, Salah, Bruno and Son.

After the double I might go with the one Spurs player in Kane. Son not producing enough in terms of FPL output, a lot more fish in the pond in the likes of Moura and Lamela attacking

Straight after the double spurs have Sheffield United at home then Leeds away. Surely the spurs double makes sense for those two.

How does the 2nd WC draft look keeping Lingard this time instead of Raphinha?

Probably could downgrade Cresswell and upgrade Amartey.

    0.2itb and FH left
    Mendy Forster
    Rudiger TAA Shaw Cresswell Amartey
    Son Lingard Bruno Jota Salah
    Kane Nacho Davis

      Looks like the wildcard draft.

Cresswell is a difference maker if you think he performs to the price tag. Prefer Masuaku/Castagne if you can afford that.

I would be wary of Cresswell. He was one of the first names on my WC draft but after that injury to Rice they'll be less solid and I think on the Scoutcast they mentioned something about him playing in a back 3 and not getting as forward as much or something. I'd swap downgrade him a little and upgrade Amartey, people seem to think he's only good for one more game at best. The rest is very nice (because it's so similar to mine of course!).

        1. Tonyawesome69
          • 5 Years

I think I will need to downgrade Cresswell. My bench would be Cresswell, Amartey and Davis. Amartey will lose his place once Soy is back. Another option is to dowgrade TAA to Philips and use funds to upgrade Amartey.

Cresswell does still get forward but he crosses from deep positions into the box. He is still on all set pieces except pens and I got him at 5.4

It's tough because after TAA, Shaw & Chelsea the defenders are much a muchness at the lower prices. I suppose the template swap would be to Coufal and Coady, but you still have the RIce problem with the former and now the Jonny & Boly (albeit short-term) problem with the latter. You could punt on a Leicester defender as a differential but they are so expensive. On one of the podcasts they mentioned that Leeds' defensive numbers are improving so Ayling could be a sound budget pick at 4.4 if you can bench him until Leeds' fixtures turn again.

Last 2-3 spots in def is causing a headache. I think my front 8 is confirmed.

With WHU moving to 5ATB, I think Coufal is a good pick at WB. I'm staying away from Wolves. I would probably try and stretch my budget to Dallas if I can. Triple Chelsea defence isn't out the question. Mendy, Rudiger and Alonso (instead of TAA and get Philips) is another option I'm looking into.

Dallas is a good pick, then I guess you could get a 4.4 as well, maybe even Dawson? I'd keep TAA, Liverpool likely out of the CL and wants to get his England place back for the Euros, and those fixtures man, those fixtures...

haha Dawson scores OGs! Yeah I think I will keep TAA. What's your thoughts on Alonso vs TAA?

He does, but I guess you're 0.1 or so off Coufal + Dallas. Maybe price changes will help you out.

TAA all day over Alonso, certainty of starts is everything for me when you're paying nearly 6mil fora defender.

                    1. Tonyawesome69

Actually I can afford Coufal and Dallas with 0itb. Defence of TAA, Rudiger, Shaw, Coufal and Dallas does look good on paper

Fair enough. Just thinking Alonso was very unlucky not to haul in the WBA game.

Alonso averages 6.5 points per start under Tuchel. So far he has only missed Sheffield of the "easy" games, but that was game 3 under Tuchel, everyone got to play at the beginning. After that it has become a little bit clearer:

Benched vs: Man United, Liverpool and Leeds (0 mins x 3)
Starts vs: Newcastle, Soton, Everton and WBA (90 mins x 4)

What I'm saying is Alonso could be a nice pick on WC as the next 4 fixtures look good for starts (cry, BHA, whu, FUL). If he doesn't start he is unlikely to come on, so you could get your Rudiger/Coady/Holding of the bench. Anyone else interested?

Does anyone else think an injury to Antonio might affect Lingards output?

Exactly what I’m thinking, they kind of work together like Kane and Son did...if Antonio is out for an extended period I’m not so sure we’ll get as much out of Lingard, they use each other well as decoys etc

Unless Lingard takes the strikers position, then that would be very interesting, I think he’ll do well there...?

Nah can’t see him going striker, would be Bowen up top. Antonio’s hold up play is essential to providing Lingard with space to work with

Biggest question is: TAA or an 8th attacker

Not sure there’s any strikers out there besides Kane that will better TAA’s points return from here on. I can see them really kicking on once they’re out of the champs league.

Another reason to avoid City is that they have one fixture less than everybody else except Fulham. Two less than Everton or Aston Villa. So take into consideration Martinez has 2 more games than Ederson, 1 more than Mendy etc before removing him.

Would you WC this to something like the below and then BB32?

    Current team;
    Martinez
    Dias. Alonso. Digne. Coufal
    Bruno. Son. Lingard. Jota
    Kane. DCL
    (McCarthy. Raph. Bamford. Dallas)

    WC team;
    Mendy. Forster
    Rudiger. Shaw. Coady. Fofana. Phillips
    Salah. Bruno. Son. Lingard. Jota
    Kane. Iheanacho. ???

Morning mate, Nice WC team, similar to my own ( see below ) rumours around WHU is that Antonio not serious but may be two weeks before he returns. Take a look at unfashionable Vydra of Burnley as a cheap place holder, decent fixture this week and dovestail with Ineanacho. Let me know what you think of my team ......

      Martinez, Leno.
      Dias, TAA, Coady, Rudiger, Amartey
      Salah, Jota, Son, Lingard, Bruno.
      Kane, Nacho, Vydra,

Would you swap Dias for Shaw......? my problem is that I have value in Dias, but I can only see 2 CS for Shaw going forward.

Tricky one. If Dias stays nailed I’d probably stay with him. Small chance he even starts to get rotated. How confident are you in Coady and TAA? Trent supposedly was dreadful last night and Wolves looked terrible at the back against you boys

Not convinced about Coady, he will become Regulion for the Spurs DGW...... TAA has looked good till last night, however LFC will not play anything like Real Madrid over the next 8GWs and with a bit of luck they will be out of the CL and will have no option but to push really hard to finish top 4. Well, thats the plan anyway !!!!.......we will see.

Looks class mate. You don’t have BB right? Vydra seems ideal if not.

I like my WC but I already have 5 of the front 7. So really unsure whether to go for it now or hang fire for BB. The above WC does look very good with BB next week though. Will also offset the TC Kane captains in my mini leagues. Hmm, what you think I should do?

As silly as it sounds, if City are going to rotate heavily, with possibly Ake, and Zinc, I would take a punt on Bamford. Leeds wont change their style and can see this game going end to end...........Leeds have scored 2 goals per game against the top 6 this season.

Dunno if this has been mentioned but Kasper and Forster rotate really nicely to end of season. Is anyone considering this on WC?

Think I might be going for it, I had Mendy for an extended portion of this season and it was a 6 point ceiling whilst Martinez wrecked me every week.

Is Salah worth it on WC? I really want him, but he is literally wrecking my balance. I am going to BB in GW 32.

    TEAM A without Salah:
    Mendy Forster
    TAA Dias Castagne Shaw Coady
    Fernandes Son Jota Lingard Neto
    Kane DCL Iheanacho

    TEAM B with Salah:
