Shoulder injury rules Pope out for Burnley as Wilson returns to Newcastle squad

Nick Pope (£5.5m) is a surprise absentee for Burnley in Gameweek 31 as the Clarets take on Newcastle in a big clash at the bottom end of the Premier League table.

A shoulder injury, not mentioned by Sean Dyche in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, means the England goalkeeper is not part of the matchday squad.

Sean Dyche’s 15th-placed side sit just four points above the Magpies, who are languishing in 17th.

Otherwise, it is as you were for Burnley with Erik Pieters (£4.3m) passed fit to play after being forced off early in Gameweek 30.

Matej Vydra (£4.8m), who snuck into some Gameweek 31 wildcards, once again partners Chris Wood (£6.3m) in attack. Jay Rodriguez (£5.8m) is missing due to family reasons.

For Newcastle, Callum Wilson (£6.5m) is part of the matchday squad for the first time since Gameweek 23.

He is joined on the bench by fellow injury returnee Allan Saint-Maximin (£5.1m), who made a 19-minute cameo in Gameweek 30 as the Magpies drew 2-2 against Spurs.

Jamal Lewis (£4.1m) remains rooted to the bench as Matt Ritchie (£4.9m) continues at left-wing back.

The ex-Norwich defender last appeared for Newcastle back in Gameweek 26.

Burnley XI (4-4-2): Peacock-Farrell; Pieters, Mee, Tarkowski, Lowton; McNeil, Westwood, Brownhill, Gudmundsson; Wood, Vydra.

Newcastle XI (3-4-3/5-4-1): Dubravka; Dummett, Clark, Fernandez; Ritchie, Shelvey, S Longstaff, Murphy; Joelinton, Gayle, Almiron.

My good mate being absolutely brutalised for deciding to wild card. This is unbelievable stuff. Punts on Neto, injured. Martinez to Pope, injured. Dallas out, scores 2 goals away to City. Gets rid of the hideous bulimic Havertz and he gets his first double figure haul of the season.

My WC is also a disaster. Mendy, Alonso, Rudiger, Dias, Sterling(C), Jota. Sold Dallas...don’t want to find out how many points I have lost.

Didn't turn on my ad blocker this morning... And, I feel must comment that this site is a mess without ad blocker now.

Is it really worth the extra XXXX pounds you get to ruin the interface of your page and annoy everybody who visits your site?

This site now reminds me of those horrible sites that you see on google with titles like 'I made $90,000 last month without lifting a finger, AND YOU CAN TOO!!!' which are flooded with questionable adverts.

Not to mention the 'Football Index' scandal 🙁

Feel FFS has sold it's soul to the devil these days...

It’s such a shame. I was moaning about it a couple of months ago, but now it’s just taken another step down in to the darkness. What was once such a wonderful site is barely even a shadow of its former self. But at least I was here for some of the good days.

It isn’t bothering me too much, but I agree with you.
Especially as the ads are so ‘irrelevant’.
        This morning alone I’ve had:
        - travel insurance; the UK currently isn’t allowed to travel
        - Mercedes Benz; in the last 20yrs, I’ve only changed car once!
        - engagement rings; I’m married.

At least sell me something I might be interested in... like getting my Dallas points back!

They should be allowed to advertise cocaine and heroin on TV - so long as they advise you to quit once you become an addict (Sarcasm)

Yeah spot on. It’s incredible how few comments there are these days, especially with so many millions in lockdown you’d have thought passing the day away on a site like this would have become more popular but it’s dead now. I can’t imagine there’ll be many members next year. Which will lead to more ads until this place just implodes.

Depends on his price (and Norwich's opening run of fixtures) to be honest.

If he's 5.0 then almost certainly. If he's 5.5-6.0 then he has a chance. If he's 6.5 then almost certainly no.

        Massive game for Newcastle.

Burnley have just 4 points more. 6 goals less but 10 less conceded.

Looks like they are going for the win and no Nick Pope either.

No Wilson or ASM is a slight puzzle to me - especially given how good ASM looked in his cameo last time. This is really winnable given Burnley have been conceding loads.

Newcastle have to win. They are set up 5-3-2 so let's see.

Burnley and Brighton are seen to have done okay this season.

In reality you see how tight this division is.

Raphinha or Saka (if Arsenal get KO) for Gundo.

Will be left with around 0.8m then to upgrade Struijk.

Oh okay - overlooked Raph as an option.

Like Saka a lot but Arteta seems to be of the Pep school. Could be a great call if Arsenal go out of the EL.

Yup Leeds fixtures are actually pretty decent from GW33 onwards.

Saka is solely dependent on Arsenal going out of EL.

                      Yep

I'm in a bind with Raph and Bamford. Quite fancy a return from one of them anyway next week but they are the obvious fall guys for me in 33 to complete my team. Suspect I'll hold Bam and lose Raph.

Have the option of losing Watkins instead but that feels odd given WBA and United mismatch in 33.

I really need Shaw to play for my own team but also to stop ML rival getting Dallas last off his bench...

With Newcastle's next 5 games they have to win today, before the last 2.

Both changed at the back. Proper English game of football incoming?

22 from 6 but I am relying on Shaw and King off the bench now as subs 😆

The ads are horrendous. Members should not have to be faced with these.

I don’t usually comment on these sort of things because Scout has done so much over the years, but I think all the ads and promotions are now really making viewing this site very difficult.

Agreed absolutely. I am very happy to pay to be a member of this site but not with extremely intrusive ads.

I'm sure they can continue the quality of work by setting exclusions. Ads make sense but not for members.

Asked about this yesterday - they're testing some new designs with ads and the current setup is just an experiment that they'll continue to tweak.

Good to hear feedback on it though, I do pass all of this along.

That's encouraging. Hoping to see the best outcome of the tweaks, even though not everyone can be made happy.
