How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Blank Gameweek 33

A portion of Fantasy Premier League managers in the top 10,000 have sold their Tottenham Hotspur assets for Blank Gameweek 33.

Ryan Mason’s men are one of four clubs not in action in the current round of action and, despite a Gameweek 34 meeting with Sheffield United, Harry Kane (£11.8m) and Son Heung-min (£9.5m) have been sold by some.

In Double Gameweek 32, the former was the most popular forward in the top 10k, owned by 99.2% at that level.

Double Gameweek 32

Blank Gameweek 33

However, as you can see from the graphic above, Kane’s top-10k ownership has dropped off by 19.4 percentage points.

That decline is sure to be made up of transfers out more so than recent poor performance considering Kane was a heavily backed captain and Triple Captain last time out and scored 12 points.

Meanwhile, Son has gone from the most popular midfielder in the top 10k to the fifth-most between deadlines.

84.4% of the top 10k owned the South Korean international for Double Gameweek 32, dropping by 14.4 percentage points between the two most recent deadlines.

It is also worth noting that Rúben Dias (£6.2m) has finally left the template at this level. For Double Gameweek 32, he had clung onto 31.1% ownership but is no longer among the top-five defenders.

Salah appears to have picked up some of the Son sellers considering his top-10k ownership has increased by 11.1 percentage points between Double Gameweek 32 and Blank Gameweek 33.

Diogo Jota (£7.0m) may have taken on some of those managers, as he increased his top-10k ownership from 66.8% to 72.7% between the two most recent deadlines.

Up-front Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.1m) appears to have benefitted from Kane sellers, rising from 78.3% top-10k ownership to 88.7%, making him the most popular forward at this level for Blank Gameweek 33.

Patrick Bamford (£6.5m) has also been sacrificed to bring Iheanacho in. He has been replaced in the top 10k’s template by Ollie Watkins (£6.6m).

Crucially, Jamie Vardy (£10.2m) has picked up some former Kane owners but has not managed to break into the top-three most-popular forwards for the top 10k, indicating his relative differential status at this level.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) is back to the summit of FPL defenders in the top 10k, with 61.3% ownership in this rank bracket.

Vardy also looks to be a differential in the Blank Gameweek 33 captaincy conversation too.

4.8% of the top 10k have put their armband on the Leicester striker, who has two double-digit hauls in his last four matches.

Salah is the clear favourite in that respect as he prepares to face Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime.

Two goals in his last two starts and a rest in Double Gameweek 32 has encouraged 65.7% of the top 10k to captain him for Blank Gameweek 33.

That makes for a majority of 56.6 percentage points over Iheanacho, this week’s runner up in the top-10k captaincy debate.

12.0% of them made him their skipper for the Monday-night meeting with a rather obliging Crystal Palace outfit.

8.4% have kept faith in Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) despite recent defensive improvements and his two attacking returns in seven matches.

Meanwhile, 2.2% have trusted Alexander-Arnold’s recent reliable form for the captaincy. He has produced 52 points in his last seven, working out at 7.4 per match.

We have two players over 100% effective ownership for Blank Gameweek 33, namely Salah and Iheanacho.

The Egyptian’s figure at this level is 147.5% while Iheanacho has crept just over that threshold with 100.4%.

The chips were used sparingly for Blank Gameweek 33, perhaps out of necessity more than anything else.

Just 7.2% of the top 10k have a Free Hit left to use and are holding it in reserve, perhaps a sensible decision with Double Gameweeks expected to be announced soon.

The Wildcard was the most popular this week, with 2.5% at this level pulling the trigger on a new squad.

Accordingly, 72.2% of the top 10k have now exhausted their chip supply while 24.5% have just one left to use.

Anyone just outside of this rank bracket holding onto any of their chips ahead of the final matches of the season run-in will find encouragement in those pieces of data.

Finally, a look at the latest Wildcard template makes for interesting reading.

Emiliano Martínez (£5.4m) remains the most popular goalkeeper for such managers while Alexander-Arnold is joined in the top-three defenders by Stuart Dallas (£5.2m) and Timothy Castagne (£5.7m).

Crucially, 55.0% of these managers have held onto Kane despite his lack of match in Blank Gameweek 33 and ongoing injury situation.

So Arsenal bought Luiz as reinforcement of their defense and sold Martinez.

That’s like saying united signed Dan James as an attacking reinforcement and sold Ronaldo. The two things didn’t happen at the same time and have no relevance.

Really overrated chip imo. Some stories of it paying off huge. But to me it ends up with loads of cash just sat on the bench. In the future I think I’ll just play it when I’ve got a genuine benching headache and hope for a 10-14 point return without missing points in the week before/after

At 75 minutes I looked at the Arsenal score and being a Holder owner I thought 'they are never going to keep this cleansheet'.
So I opened up Betfair on my phone to look at the odds of Everton scoring a goal, to put either £5 or £10 on it, and by the time I open on the game on Betfair a big notice at the top says 'Everton goal'...

    A) Bale : SHU WOL AVL

I'm thinking Bale looked good last game and with the new manager bounce (or at least a manager that likes him), good chance of starting the remaining games. The cup final will tell us more. Lingard's fixtures are all away at two sides who have improved defensively and Burnley have Pope back now which should help them get back to their normal tightness.

I see your point. But I brought in Lingard for Arsenal and its safe to say that I wouldn’t swap him for anyone in the game right now

Also look at the home v away record this season. I think there have been more away wins than home wins (if you’re looking for stats to help with decision making)

I'm split on this. I keep reading that Lingard is massively overperforming on xG etc. and will surely regress, but what Zophar (I think it was) said the other day about the importance of body language -well Lingard's couldn't be more positive (although Bale looked happier last game too). I'm chasing and think Bale could be a huge differential, so may go for it.

Yeah he’s a cracking differential. I did son to Maddison this week for the same reason. I’m chasing in one and a very narrow lead in the other (and was 92% template!).

FWIW I would try to find a way to get in both Lingard and a strong differential. Bruno could be a good one to ship if you still own (making way for son’s return next week for me)

Midfield is currently Salah Bruno Son Jota ESR.

I have 2FT and my planned moves are likely Bruno & ESR to Bale & Raphina (don't need him until GW36). Can't stretch to Lingard unless I lose Jota (or swap Jota for him probably GW36 and obviously not keen on that with Pool's last 3 fixtures).

Pretty strong chance of a medium to big DGW in 35, but then blanks for a lot of the doubling teams in 36. This is conditional on every team getting a home game with fans in either 37 and 38 which will jigger the schedule around. That's conditional on the Covid numbers going the right way. Eliminate the armpit/badge piece and don’t stop on an arbitrary frame to start. Or include a margin of error (wider line) where it stands as called

Margin of error is nonsense. So you say it’s a 10mm margin of error. Then 11mm is offside and people will cry that it’s a joke.

All you can ask is that whatever measure they choose is administered consistently.

Totally disagree; anything close would stand as called, not be changed to some result based on when they stop the picture and where they draw the line.

Margin of error is 100% necessary if you want to avoid wrong calls as the #1 priority of the system. Ask a statistician.

Whatever the appropriate margin of error should be. Better than reversing a call based on something that is within the margin of error for your measurement. Using a margin of error is (factually) going to get you a more accurate result. It’s not arguable really.

I think it does, the further most part of the attacking player is easy, some arbitrary body part is not consistent at all

It’s not arbitrary, it’s the furthest forward part of the body you can score with. Because players are often leaning forward it is often the armpit (basically under the shoulder). But armpit isn’t the metric.

The chest doesn’t determine where the line is drawn... your missing it.

No I’m not, the chest crossing the line depends on where the video is stopped

No the video is stopped when the chest crosses the line, which is drawn in the same place, and hears the key, not relative to the location of the chest

But how do they know they’ve stopped it at exactly the right frame?

Because they are stopping at the position where it crosses the line. Again you are missing the point and mixing concepts. The issue with them freezing it when the ball leaves the foot is that there is no clear determination of when the ball has actually left the foot, Where as it is very clear if the chest has crossed the established finish line and exactly when that happens; that’s why they can measure it down to the thousands of a second with a video replay, but they can get 10 people in a pub to agree on a VAR offside

Use it as it's intended. For clear and obvious errors. Not drawing lines pixels apart from randomly picked frame.

Clear and obvious error is not applicable with offside. Offside is factual. What is an obvious offside error?

It’s not a fact if the frame is stopped at the wrong time. Not a fact if they use the beginning of the armpit vs the end. Facts are incontrovertible.

The lines they show on tv are for tv purposes, the lines they use to make the decisions are much more fine. People don’t cry about photo finishes in athletics or horse racing.

No, it doesn’t. If the frame is early or late, it won’t capture them crossing the line. They cross the line totally regardless of when they stop the picture

My view is just stop the measuring nonsense. VAR is there as another (better) set of eyes to alert the ref to an obvious error he has made. A player being offside by a toe or an armpit is not an obvious error hence the measurement.

I think most fans would be happy if VAR said to ref 'check the monitor' and the ref looks at it with the naked and says what he see after 10-20 seconds of analysis. Comes back to a far more natural way of doing it. Then use VAR for elbows, spitting etc.

Club's? Yeah, they've shown what they'r all about this week.

And if you pick a frame 0,1 ms before the lines are other way around and it's onside. The technology is not accurate enough for this kind of use. Who know's if it's the right frame of the exact moment the pass leaves the foot.

I can't remember exactly but prior to VAR linesmen got something like 95% of call correct which is crazily good IMO and also far less frustrating than hanging around for measurements. Still annoying when they do fluff it.

Perez was right all along. He knows the business since last 3 decades.
Games like the one today are so boring and I'd definitely watch Arsenal vs Barcelona or Arsenal vs Juventus which will be much more entertaining rather than watching some pathetic EPL game like the one today.
All Perez has to do is change the model of the ESL and have relegation/promotion system end of every season

The whole point of the league was those 12 clubs wanted guaranteed places in the premier European competition. Perez would never allow relegation/promotion/league standings to dictate who took part in the ESL

Rashford has been carrying a shoulder injury since November and a foot injury for the last 3-4 weeks. So if he's not fit to play you should not be surprised. There's no luck involved.

for a guy that has been carrying an injury since November he is quite tough because he has not missed a single game for United this season apart from a 5 min. cameo against Fulham gw19, only transferred him this week and it looks like his out..

THE OFFSIDE RULE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED
There is no problem with VAR, it's the ludicrous offside rule that is ruining our game. The offside rule needs to be changed and I suggest a simple effective way to do that. Let me explain. Everyone knows the rule that the ball must cross the goal line in order to score a goal. The whole of the ball must cross the line. The same applies for a throw-in. The whole of the ball must cross the line. Not part of the ball - it has to be the whole of the ball. Daylight between the line and the ball. No one has a problem with this rule and VAR easily detects if the ball has crossed the line or not. So why shouldn't the same rule apply to offsides? In order for a player to be offside, there should be a margin of daylight between the attacker and the last defender. Simple and effective. As a result, more goals will be scored, more exciting attacking play and less stopping excellent goals due to marginal offsides. No one would complain if there was a marginal decision based on an attacking player having daylight between himself and the last defender. A win win for everyone. More goals, more enjoyment, easier decision making, get it done!

With KDB looking fit is it safe to say there is minimal potential for Gundogan going forward? I've got some big decisions to make in Sky and I don't have many trannies left now

Yeah, I dont think any City players will be able to provide consistent returns till season end. Rotation, position etc. will probably get only worse from now.

Obviously depends on alternatives available and whether auto sub option exist or not.

That is the thing. No autosubs in Sky, he's clung until now because every transfer is sacred. But today I think he goes

I'm in 3rd place overall and I think it's time to drop him.

Nah. The main benefit of a change is to get a fixture this gameweek (yu can make mid week fixtures in sky). I think I am decided he goes. He would have gone last week but the KDB injury got him an extra week

If DGW fixtures are similar to Ben's prediction, they dont look exciting, do they? Triple Palace and Everton on FH? 😀

Is Mount -> KDB a wise move? 1FT, 4.7 ITB.

                Leno Forster
                Shaw Kabak Coady Rudiger N.Williams
                Bruno Mount Jota Lingard Burke

Lets see if he is fit or not and how many minutes he gets midweek.

No plans to get Salah I assume?

You can save this week and do that move next week for free

I would say you have missed having Salah v Newcastle this week. That would have been a good fixture to have him. Nex week pool are away at Man U which is hardly a perfect fixture.

So wait until after that match and consider what you do regarding Salah then.

If United drop points this week, City will have virtually won the league(which they still will comfortably even if United win imo). Pep roulette is about to hit mad levels, more than it already is. Going without any City assets might be a good move forward. I have only Stones, whom I plan to sell this week while he's ineligible for a couple more games. What are your thoughts on this?

You're spot on Echoes. No point holding onto City for rest of the season. Nice grav too. That's an album I've never bought but would drop into some of their tunes online.

I’ve kept Dias because he seems most nailed and I have a bench. I figure I’ll take the 6 (usually) when he plays and my first sub when he doesn’t, reassess after each week. Not interested in attacking assets though.

funny how GW 33 barely start and people ask for advice for there GW 34 teams. Like why don't you wait and see how your previous team perform first and decide later.

Because a lot of people don't have time to set their team up on a Thursday, I guess. I nearly missed the deadline last couple of weeks, my wife actually did. I hate the schedule this season.
