Free tickets up for grabs in FanTeam’s Real Madrid v Chelsea Fantasy game

Sponsored by FanTeam

The European Super League is dead (or, at least, sleeping); long live the UEFA Champions League.

We’re down to the last four in Europe’s still-premier club cup competition and there’s Premier League representation in both semi-finals, with Chelsea facing Real Madrid and Manchester City taking on Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blues are in action first and FanTeam are running Fantasy events for the Tuesday evening match at the Bernabeu, with something to suit those on different budgets.

€25k in prize money up for grabs in the advertised tournament above, with a cool €2,500 going to the winner and managers finishing in the first 288 places even getting prize money.

Entries are €20 (or £18 in British money).

But there is another, identical-to-play tournament that costs just €2/£1.80 to enter – or nothing at all for those signing up to FanTeam for the first time.

And even if you’re already a seasoned FanTeam user, you could still be entering for diddly squat.

FREE TICKETS

That’s because 50 free €2 tickets are being given away by FanTeam ahead of Tuesday’s match in Madrid.

To be eligible, head to this Tweet (also embedded below) and do the following:

HOW TO PLAY

FanTeam‘s contest for Real Madrid v Chelsea will be played in Pursuit format.

In Pursuit, you can choose any players you like without a budget constraint. Instead, every Fantasy asset is assigned some Bonus Points, which are added or subtracted to the player’s Gameweek score – a bit like a handicapping system.

This means that star players start with a disadvantage, while underdogs will give you points right off the bat.

Captains get double playing and bonus points, while vice-captains are awarded 1.5 times their returns.

There are two other aspects worthy of mention at this point:

  • Stacking Penalty: If you decide to double (or even triple) up on goalkeepers/defenders from the same team, you’ll receive one fewer clean sheet point for every extra player you select.
  • Safety Net: There is no bench or autosubs in Pursuit mode. Instead, any selected player who fails to start will be replaced by a team-mate from the same club, in the same position, with an equal or cheaper price.

If you are new to this style of Fantasy management, FanTeam have plenty of material to help you get up to speed:

SCORING SYSTEM

FPL managers looking for a way to make their knowledge pay will have no trouble picking up FanTeam‘s familiar scoring system.

Think of it as FPL without the bonus points, with a few other exceptions – detailed in the graphic above.

HOW TO ENTER

Head to the FanTeam lobby and look for ‘UCL €25K Semi-final: Real Madrid vs Chelsea [€2.5K to 1st] before choosing your entry fee.

    For a -4:

    Phillips > Castagne
Martinez > Forster (sticking with Pickford as primary keeper for the run in)

Exact funds to do it.......Yes or no?

Martinez does, but against Everton (so Pickford will cover that game). Forster is a risk, but he is only back up

    Ok folks, who to bench:

    1. Shaw (LIV)
    2. Coady (wba)

Currently benching Coady, in which case want to us my second FT to prep for DGW35, so Coady >:

    A. Konsa (ML chasers have Martinez so this provides cover)
    B. Godfrey (Coleman rotation risk)

    Cheers

A thought on possibility of making up ground.

It's not particular players that are critical when you are looking at the template but the combination of them. For instance right now in the top 10k you can hold some very template options but still have a differential combination. No particular need to find a differential to be different?

Kane + Son is just over 55%
    Kane + Son + Bruno = 41%
    Kane + Son + Bruno + Mo = 28%
    Kane + Son + Bruno + Mo + Lingard = 23%

Everyone does seem to have Nacho however despite the other combinations 🙂

    1. Scholes Out For Summer

The thing with combos is that you need multiple players to return to make use of the EO.

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 11 months ago

        True

My point was more to do with the idea that there was greater diversity in the template than I at least had thought. I had assumed that Son Kane Bruno Mo was wholly mainstream in the top tier. It isn't. Choices are being made between them. If you take Son as a premium then comparatively few teams have these top 4 active premiums. That is different in itself.

Another question altogether of course whether they are the 4 best players to hold.

    2. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 11 months ago

Yeah, have all the highest-owned players in your team and you'll avoid doing especially badly. Any other news? 🙄

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 11 months ago

Think the "news" might be that the Kane Son combo is 55% ahead of the SHU fixture.

Or put another way if you take Son as a de facto premium comparatively few teams are managing to squeeze 4 premiums in. Compromises are having to be made - something that hasn't held true for premiums for quite a while given injuries at Spurs and blanks.

Way less experience than you but this feels much more like "normal" to me. Until now there have been precious few weeks where there have been budget decisions have been critical. You could afford whoever you wanted.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years

Looks as if the current EO fetish has wrecked you as a FPL manager before you even got started then.

The question is whether Kane and/or Son are worth having. Ownership of each or as a combination is entirely ancillary.

          1. pingissimus
            • 5 Years
            2 years, 11 months ago

            🙂

Actually pay zero attention to EO personally and haven't at any point really. Nice green arrow without MO when he hit a TC hattrick case in point. But I thank you for your advice 🙂

Was simply raising what I thought was a point of interest for those that are template obsessed.

            1. Ruth_NZ
              • 9 Years
              2 years, 11 months ago

In that case, don't encourage them is my advice. 😉

Tell you what: if you give me your 5 most important skills/competencies for a good FPL manager I'll give you mine. 🙂

              1. pingissimus
                • 5 Years
                2 years, 11 months ago

                🙂

Oh I just play to test my skills and have fun - nice to do well of course but it's nothing if it isn't fun and fun for me is seeing if I can do it my way not trying to finish high if that makes sense. Natural contrarian.

Like to get find the next thing - getting that right gives me as much pleasure as anything - probably what I do best

I'm rubbish at patience but find that there are some players Im prepared to stay patient with and others not, Try to get those in that I'll not transfer out immediately they go 0-2-2. Planning transfers for 5 weeks sort of thing. This one is a work in progress 🙂

Pay no attention to price. This is my AWB Jimenez lesson (I'm young at FPL) they saved my first season simply because I always played them and didn't bench for price

Always captain someone against Palace 🙂

By the way, nice information at the top of this post. I’ve always found the template ridiculous. The odds of everyone playing the same team in the same way each week are verging on zero. And good to spot the unfashionable players, like JWP and Pereira, both cheap and in the 130s

I don't think I need to play the WC this week, and can save the FT:

    Martinez/(Johnstone)
    TAA, Coufal, Dallas (Mee, Dunk)
    Jota, Bruno, Son, Raphinha, Lingard
    Nacho, Kane, (Watkins)
    5.3m itb

Or might take a punt from Spot the Differential article given I'm likely to WC next week if DGW/BGW fixtures are confirmed by then.

Iv seen talk about DGW35, have the fixtures been officially announced or is this just guess work? Anyone have any idea of what’s happening?

Ben Crellin will know if anyone, but the likelihood is Eve v Villa in DGW35

I can upgrade Vardy to Kane but, with Leicester next fixtures (sou, NEW) and also a potential DGW, if feels wrong doesn´t it?
