Scoutcast Episode 377 – Making sense of Double Gameweek 35

Joe and Seb are joined by Karam to look at the key issues facing Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Gameweek 35.

The fans’ protest at Old Trafford at the weekend served up an array of new permutations for the Scoutcast crew to ponder as they prepare for this week’s bumper set of fixtures.

The postponement of the fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool means that Jurgen Klopp’s troops are likely to play twice within one of the next two Gameweeks. Meanwhile, the Red Devils will possibly avoid a blank in Gameweek 36, making their assets even more attractive.

As Joe, Seb and Karam await confirmation of the scheduling changes, they analyse the different scenarios to prepare for.

Chip strategy is crucial to this and fortunately, each of the Scoutcasters has one chip left to deploy for the week ahead, which features a raft of teams playing twice.

Joe reveals his Bench Boost plans for Gameweek 35, while Karam and Seb unveil the 15 players that have made their Free Hit squads.

The crew take a deep dive into the numbers of the best premium picks and low-budget gems, not just for the weekend’s fixtures but also for the season run-in.

With Michail Antonio (£6.4m) back from injury for West Ham, it looks like David Moyes’ side could be key to FPL managers’ plans for the tail-end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Elsewhere, Rough with the Smooth features a return to form for a serial top 10k finisher, the remaining fixtures are frisked, and Karam takes his turn to pick a differential.

Captains are revealed and the Scoutcast trio look back on their contrasting fortunes in postponement ravaged Gameweek 34.

Could see a sneaky 18:31 announcement post deadline on Friday evening tbh

Pulling West Brom Pool in to the following Wednesday would still be 5 days notice at that stage

How to solve a dilemma like Leno. Got 2 FTs but feels wrong to get rid of a DGW keeper, even with the rotation risk.

    A) Swap for Pickford
    B) Keep, hope he plays, and make attacking transfers elsewhere

Is Son to Greenwood worth it as a one week punt for DGW35 if it then means a -4 in BGW36? Would be quite a bold move, closest challenger is 18 points behind me in ML and also has Son.

Ended up with a small red arrow after three of my starting eleven and my bench (Saka, Rudiger, Phillips) didn't play, so ended up with only 8 player. BB and FH which I saved for the next couple of GW's are also likely to be adversely affected by Sundays postponement.

      Kane captain fail

      Dropped 12 k: 47k to 59k

      LOL.

My defense played a total of 0 minutes (Shaw, Rudiger, Dias, Phillips, Holding). I also had 6 players in the United - Liverpool game. All capped off with Kane (c) and no Son.

      Slaughtered! 23 points.

      - 6 in MUN-LIV.
      - Holding missed out
      - Martinez, Dallas, Bamford, Lingard
      - Kane (C)

At least I got Dunk off the bench, and Nacho got an assist..!

Smooth - the week started great, I had 3 players played and they all returned points. It then went downhill from there and only Son returned something after that.

42 points, - Son, Mendy, Watkins, Iheanacho (then blanking) Coady, Maddison, Lingard, Kane (C)

Rough - So 8 active players in the week with the following getting zero minutes

Dias, Trent, Holding, Azpil, Fernandes, Jota, Forster

Had to try something different to have an outside chance of winning my ML. I knew most of my rivals would captain Kane. I could have upgraded Vardy to Kane but I swapped Jota to Bale(c) and ended with 94 points. I still need to catch 58 points(ML leader had a decent gw with 58 points but caught up 64 points on 2nd place) but I have my wildcard and the two above me have no chips-an outside chance!

Rough: Holding, Rudiger, TAA, Robbo, Dia, Salah, ESR all no shows . . . .

Smooth (ish): -8 for Fernandes, Cavani & Raphina to Bale, Sterling & Brewster - paid itself back but more importantly had i not made those moves i would have had 10 no shows and finished on only 13 points!

    19. Mr. O'Connell

Rough: only 7 starters who would combine for a mega 20 points.

No Azpi, Rudi, Holding, Phillips, Salah, Bruno, Jota.

      Captain blank (obv).

Vardy has been a colossal waste of money.

      7.7m GW rank.

Hovering just outside 50k before the week, now 95k.

Smooth: Dawson got a positive score (he has actually averaged negative points over the past 7 weeks). However he did get booked in the 90th minute which made it a nervy finish to the gameweek.

      Mount assist.

      Only 4 gameweeks to go.

All rough this GW , side down the slippery OR slope continuing. Total of 5 points from defense of Martinez , Dallas and Konsa. No jammy bench points with AWB no show and Stones suspended. Bumford and Lingard blanking not helping as I hoped. (K)ane fail not so much of an issue as that was the case for everyone. But outside 20K now, and defense still in sad shape, so giving up any hopes of top 10K, will be happy to stay within 100K at end of season

Transferred Bruno out for Son, which paid off (for GW34 at least). Like many, I had 4 non-starters from the MUN-LIV game, but this brought on Watkins and Digne, that helped me to a score of 53 and rank rise to 149k, highest of this season so far for me.

      All rough:
Lost 5 MUN/LIV, Raphinha, Rudiger, Leno and Forster - so only six playing, with Kane(c).

Down 30 - 50 points on most of my mini-league.

Actually thought I was well set at the start of the GW.

My early WC to bring in the likes of Bale, DCL and Digne a week earlier paid off handsomely (other option was WC36 after FH35). Side benefit was having only 2 from LIV-MUN. I brought in Mitchell in WC as a 3.8 bench fodder thinking I would never need him until the end of season but 1 point from the bench was a nice surprise. Only rough was double Leeds def but can not complain about that.

Another generally smooth week - 17 green arrows in the last 21 weeks. Free hit to come now in GW35 and I'd actually prefer it if Man U - Liverpool dropped into GW36.

Transferred in Bale for Bruno, had Son already and double Brighton clean sheet for a total of 59 (no hits) and a rank rise of 1530 to 675.

That makes it a rise from rank 1,065,385 in GW 13 to 675 now and chasing a few decent cash mini league wins (just need to gain 20-30 points on the leaders in a few but the FH may do much of that).

      Smooth:

      Smooth:

Have to say smooth even though only had 9 players. Captained Iheanacho having sold Kane previous week for Vardy. Son, Wood and back 3 of Digne who I brought in for Coady , Coufal and Veltman who came off bench for TAA. 54 points from 9 players

I see Ward as the only differential there. Siggy too maybe. Your BB plan is nice and should help you climb ranks. For top 1K finish you will need a few differentials in your team + them doing really well from now till the end of the season.

Swapping kane and son out would be an horrific decision. Kane and son will rip it up the last few games of the season v easy teams and you won't have em. And they play Leeds, kane could easy get a ht vs them

Agreed, plan to get them back in gw36. Think salah and Watkins outscore them this gw if liv have a double.

difficult but not impossible, if you can throw yourself into top 5K after this week, find some good (captain) differentials for last 3 GWs and try your chances. If still around 7-8K after this week, I would not risk top 10K and play safe though.

Is this Ok for next week. Phillips plays instead of Konsa if Pool's DGW is announced. Have 0.4 ITB to do Nacho to Antonio in 36.

    Forster
    TAA Rudiger Konsa
    Salah Bruno Son Martinelli
    Kane DCL Nacho

    Martinez Lingard Phillips Struijk

Thanks. Playing him only because I do not want to double up on Villa defense with those fixtures. If Pool's double is announced Phillips plays instead of Konsa and Martinez instead of Forster. Will go with just one Villa defense.

I know a lot can change in this game, but how does this strategy look for next few weeks? Would prefer if Liverpool doubled in 35 but will probably still go with it even if it ends up being 36.

    Martinez Leno
    Coufal Digne Phillips (Dunk Rudiger)
    Salah Jota Son Bruno Lingard
    Kane Iheanacho (Vydra)

GW35 - Phillips & Son > TAA & Raphinha (if fit, bold option) or JWP (doubler, safe option)
    GW36 - Iheancho (blank) > Antonio

When would be the best time to play the WC? I have 2FT for this week, so can get to 6 DGW players with no hits.

Just use your free transfers for now.

If you keep your nose in front until the last week then you can use it as a defensive move, or if you have slipped behind can use it to attack and win on the final day.

On BB this week. Should I take a -4pt hit for:
Vydra -> DCL & Son -> £7.3m Mid (Greenwood, Mount, Zaha).

Will need to take a -4 or -8 next week to get rid of Mendy/Castagne/Maddison/Nacho

Any truth in the theory that Kane is still hobbled from his ankle injury? If so, perhaps he is the best cash cow.......

Could do, Kane>DCL, Vydra>Watkins, Rudiger>Digne for a -4 and be well set up for GW 36

  24. McSauce

The -4 Decision and does it pay off?

Calvert Lewin (whm, avl, SHU) total points (-4)
    Kane (Lee,WOL)

Does the Kane --> DCL move yield over 4 points?

    Mendy (Forster)
    TAA Digne Shaw (Coady, Dunk)
Salah (C) Greenwood Lingard Son Siggy
    Kane Chancho (Vydra)

Trying to claw back a -30pt deficit in ML. They have Castagne, Martinelli, Salah, TAA, Rudiger on a DGW and annoyingly Bale (Capt last week!).
