Man Utd set for Triple Gameweek 35 as clash with Liverpool is rearranged

Manchester United will have a Triple Gameweek 35 after the Premier League announced that their postponed clash with Liverpool will take place next Thursday.

The Red Devils will also face Aston Villa and Leicester City in the next set of fixtures, with all three of their Gameweek 35 matches taking place in little more than 100 hours.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops will also have a Double Gameweek as a result of today’s announcement.

The soon-to-be-deposed reigning champions will take on Southampton on Saturday before they visit Old Trafford.

United will still blank in Gameweek 36 as a result, while Liverpool will be at home to Championship-bound West Bromwich Albion.

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 SCHEDULE

MANCHESTER UNITED

Sun 9 May: Aston Villa (A)
Tue 11 May: Leicester City (H)
Thu 13 May: Liverpool (H)

LIVERPOOL

Sat 8 May: Southampton (H)
Thu 13 May: Manchester United (A)

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 FIXTURE MATRIX

*Thanks to moderator Legomane

WHICH UNITED AND LIVERPOOL ASSETS STAND THE BEST CHANCE OF STARTING ALL OF THEIR GAMEWEEK 35 MATCHES?

Earlier in the week, we had a two-part look at which Double Gameweek 35 players stood the best chance of avoiding a benching in the upcoming set of fixtures.

The article linked below has been revised after today’s announcement and now includes Liverpool, along with an amended entry for Manchester United.

CHANGE OF CHIP STRATEGY/TRANSFER FOCUS?

Liverpool's front four toil at Anfield as Newcastle assets creep onto FPL radar

Today’s announcement was seismic but it doesn’t change some things.

Manchester United, for example, will still blank in Gameweek 36, so the situation remains that any Fantasy managers going all-in on the Red Devils in Triple Gameweek 35 will have to either have a strong bench, an exit plan (possibly involving hits) or an unused chip up their sleeves.

Those on a Free Hit, of course, will have no such worries.

What it does perhaps alter is a greater chance of two or more starts for most of their key players in the upcoming Gameweek, even allowing for a benching along the way.

Liverpool players suddenly become even more attractive – although that was immediately the case as soon as Sunday’s match was postponed and it became clear that the game wouldn’t be rescheduled for Gameweek 34.

A double-header against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, as had been mooted in some circles, would have been dreamland territory with regards to the Gameweek 35 captaincy and triple captaincy. The fact that United now play thrice, and one of Liverpool’s fixtures is at Old Trafford, may temper interest in Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and co when it comes to the armband discussions.

But the Reds being one of just five teams who have two fixtures in Triple Gameweek 35 and an unaffected match in Blank Gameweek 36 is a boon for chipless FPL managers and Wildcarders alike who are investing in players for the entire run-in, not just a one-off Gameweek.

While the addition of Liverpool to the Double Gameweek 35 contingent does give chipless managers a greater chance of getting more players out with two games, those FPL bosses with Free Hits and Wildcards in hand still have the advantage of focusing mostly on the next seven days without being too concerned about the decimated schedule in Blank Gameweek 36.

IMPLICATIONS FOR OTHER TEAMS

The best Neto replacements and whether FPL managers should stick with Fernandes

Today’s shock announcement will not just affect Liverpool and United.

It could, first and foremost, also be good news for Leicester City assets.

The Foxes now have an extra day of recovery ahead of their FA Cup final appearance on Saturday 15 May, which could alleviate some of the rotation risk – if there ever was any – for that clash with United. The temptation for Brendan Rodgers to hand some of his key players a breather may partly depend on the results of the weekend fixtures, however, and where they leave his side in their ongoing push for a top-four place.

The game against the Red Devils is also the second of United’s three fixtures (or four, if we include tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League tie against Roma). Would Ole Gunnar Solksjaer perhaps rotate against the Foxes with one eye on Thursday’s clash with Liverpool, then?

Aston Villa, United’s first Triple Gameweek 36 opponents, will also be hoping for similar favours from Solskjaer on Sunday.

I assume you're asking if Salah will score more in 2 than Bruno in 3 as if Bruno scores 14 in 3 and Salah 10 in 2, you'd want to captain Bruno.

Would you swap Dunk to Maguire and play him instead of Son? Would be FT

I wouldn't. Makes your team into a 2-4-2 for 36? And defensively not the best fixtures for United now. If you do, however, I'd consider it as Coleman vs Son dilemma this week.

    What would you do:

    1. Bring in Greenwood(I have Bruno/Shaw) - Makes GW36 a lot harder to manage (extra hit/less starters)
    2. Bring in JWP - Differential and can play GW36 and hold for the season as super sub - Price point enabler!
    3. Bring in Jota(I have Salah/TAA) - Everyone in my mini league has him - I'm chasing the leaders!
    4. Bring in Zaha - Potential for explosiveness, also potential to hate life.

I think its my best bet at this point. I can get 10 T/DGWs without hits, and then get 9 next week with just a -4. Not ideal with only 9 in GW36 but hopefully make up more ground prior to that.

Zaha was my original plan before all this blew up haha. I could still run with Zaha as I don't think anyone will grab him from my ML. Fitness the only thing holding me back at the moment.

My only issue is GW36 would be a blood bath for me, I'd need to take a -8 just to get 9 players on the pitch. The upside is what's making me sway but damn it's like robbing Peter (GW36) to pay Paul (GW35) lol

        1. krawiecus
          • 2 Years
          2 years, 10 months ago

Exactly. Adding -8 to the fact that no MU attacker is highly likely to start all three, you get 2 games + 8pts vs 2.5 games. Agreed with the above, A is only if you think you wont win ML without huge risks. If not, I'd avoid.

I like the Zaha shout, he has the fixtures and could be a nice differential, it might be toss between Zaha/JWP.

If I go Zaha, then I have a benching headache with a decent front 8 haha.
            Salah Bruno Zaha* Siggy Lingard
            Kane DCL Nacho.

I think it's got to be JWP for the long hold.

Cheers man! Yeah to get first place is like 76 points ahead, so aggressive play is needed, but all to play for to keep second, so need to play conservative also lol!
Replacing Dunk for an Everton cheapie may be good and bench Dias.
Could even roll a transfer like ya say here, got the basis covered alredy with Pool & United i guess.

I don't think you should bring in another Utd when you don't have any chips to navigate the blank. Dias to Digne and roll 2nf FT. Spurs have Wolves in 36. Look to do Nacho to Antonio in 36

Thanks Tony! Yeah this is true, plus i aint too keen on Greenwood if i'm being honest.
To do Dias to Digne i'd need to use a transfer elsehwere, annoyingly 0.1 off doing Dias > Digne.
Nacho > Antonio is a very sound move.

Oh crap that's annoying... Agreed with Tony and you, I'd look at Dunk (for someone cheaper potentially good for 38 as Digne has City) to free up funds for Digne--or just some variation which helps you roll the FT indeed

Yeah i reckon Dunk to even Godfrey could be a little smart move, also i should learn my lesson with Digne, hardly ever delivers big anymore. Rolling a FT here would be really nice with the blanks in 36.

Yup Digne was a disappointment when I had him earlier on in season. I'm not a huge fan of any of the other Everton defs. I would maybe downgrade dunk to Ward

I’ll definitely ensure Mason is on my team. Enough said.

    1) Lingard
    2) JWP

Have Lingard atm, but have the FT for the transfer...worth it? Or is JWP a trap?

trap unless he get penalties every match then yes

Not worth it unless you have 2 FT and need to burn one. Trap imo. Rolling and having 2 transfers in 36 or using them better this GW preferred.

Prefer El Ghazi over JWP. JWP has missed pens this season

Is it worth to sell Lingard for Greenwood and get him back in gw36?

If WHU continue the setup they played in the previous game then I would sell and not get him back. Get Antonio instead

Sounds good if it's for free and you'll have no other pressing issues.

I sold Jota for Greenwood, not Lingard.

Might sound crazy but Jota not on the teamsheet vs Utd means he's likely to start on the bench vs SOU. And given the gap until the Utd game (5 days), I think he starts on the bench in that one too.

So for me, he plays about 45 mins next GW - don't like those odds.

Should I do Lingard to Greenwood for a -4?

Use my FH or BB? I have already done Raphinia to Ward-Prowse, but if I FH this week, I lose him and will have to do a -4 in GW 36 to field a strong 11. My concern with the BB this week is that Coady, Aina, and Martinez don't inspire confidence. If I don't BB this week, I will probably build to use it on GW 38.

    Mendy* - Martinez*
    TAA* - Digne* - Dallas - Coady - Aina
    Salah* - Bruno** - Greenwood** - Lingard - Raphinia
    Kane - Ihenacho* - Wood

BB, with probably another transfer w/r/t Coady/Aina/Wood

BB this week for sure. It’s a distraction to spend the rest of the season building a team for the random gw38

Greenwood or rashford for the one week?

Greenwood. With Rashford niggling injury he has had through the season, I can't see him getting more mins than Greenwood with little rest time inbetween the 3 games

Surely a high priority transfer. We all expected him to start the last game and he didn't. Not worth the hassle
