Raphinha makes the Leeds bench as Struijk, Kane, Son, Dallas and Bamford all start

Triple Gameweek 35 continues with Leeds hosting Spurs and a return to the matchday squad for Raphinha (£5.4m), after missing the last three matches with a thigh problem.

It led to mass sales for the under-priced Brazilian, having gained popularity for the four goals, five assists and general excitement provided during his previous 13 games.

Leeds have a trio of promising fixtures to end the season and the 24-year-old is returning to the Fantasy Premier League scene at an interesting time.

Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) joins him as a substitute, after head coach Marcelo Bielsa said their availability was “subject to an evaluation carried out on a daily basis”. Winger Helder Costa (£5.0m) is finished for the season and, whilst Liam Cooper’s (£4.3m) three match suspension is over, he doesn’t regain his place from bargain defender Pascal Struijk (£4.0m).

Patrick Bamford (£6.3m), Stuart Dallas (£5.2m) and Illan Meslier (£4.7m) all start.

Interestingly, Leeds have only drawn five matches this season and they were all home meetings against the ‘Super League Six’. Can they complete the pattern?

They face a Spurs side under the interim management of Ryan Mason. It’s his third game in charge and comes off the back of a convincing 4-0 win over Sheffield United. Therefore he picks an unchanged side, enabling Gareth Bale (£9.1m) to start again following his hat trick.

Ben Davies (£4.5m) is their only absence, still suffering from a calf injury. Serge Aurier (£5.2m) follows his 14 points from midweek by keeping his place at right-back ahead of Matt Doherty (£5.6m).

It’s an attacking line-up from Mason, with Dele Alli (£7.4m) joining Bale alongside the heavy shoulders that have carried Spurs throughout the season – Harry Kane (£11.8m) and Son Heung-min (£9.5m).

January meeting’s between the teams saw both men haul during the 3-0 win, with the remarkable pair currently on a combined 60 goals and assists for the season.

Kane, Son and Bamford were the three most-sold FPL players this week and this is an opportunity for faithful owners to quickly out-score the Double Gameweek assets.

LINE-UPS

LEEDS UNITED XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Alioski; Koch; Dallas, Klich, Roberts, Harrison; Bamford

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Lo Celso; Bale, Alli, Son; Kane

So this game is just saying F U to anyone who decided to ditch classic sgw assets.. which is me. Sold Bamford awhile back, benched dallas, sold son. Only kept kane but his goal ruled out, lovely

      Dallas is a season keeper
Bamford has been off the boil for ages
Selling Son should never be done, ever
      Kane will still score

my mini league rivals single gameweek players both scoring of course. The still highly owned Dallas, Son and Bamford all scoring and those who sold Kane still getting away with it. Doesnt get any worse.

Only 1 and a half games in and frustration building already.

Who sits there controlling VAR and gets off on ruling out a goal because of some impossible arbitrary lines they’ve drawn? Is it a power trip? I’m genuinely perplexed and actually worried what their thought process is.

Don’t even care about the FPL impact, that’s just a game, but who rules out a goal by millimetres??!

This is why I would allow attackers to have a 1m gap to be onside. Doing this will stop defenders playing such high lines

That’s not really my point though. I wouldn’t want to change how teams set up tactically. There’s someone in a room, miles away, who doesn’t understand what the offside rule is designed to stop. Either that or much worse, they want to say they ruled out a goal.

The one that got me most this year was Bamford's offside at Palace - when he was using his hand to show where he wants the ball, hand was offside....

Agree with you, but where do you draw a line (pun intended) ?
      1-5mm
      10-25mm
      more ?

What I don't like about VAR is that normal spectators after viewing incident replay once can tell the outcome but refs take minutes and the longer it takes the more likely we getting ridiculous decision.

You draw the line as best you can and if it’s impossibly close you accept there’s margins of error and go say it’s inside, or go with the on pitch decision if the assistant ref gave offside.

I wouldn't draw a line at all. VAR should view the replay, if it looks offside it is offside, it they are not sure it is not offside. Simple

Agree, there really is colleration between time they take to make decision and the level of ridiculousness of said decision - ie Vestergards red card last week.

        • 8 Years

The line wasn’t even aligned with the pitch. This is the highest level and they can’t even get that right. It’s awful.

Its crazy isn't it. Like it comes down to the settings on Var which isn't something that comes from the old rule. What I mean is, the technology has to be set to what is 1 unit of distance, is it 1mm, is it 0.5mm, when the human is moving the line, the line must settle on a unit right? So who decided it is 1mm or 1micro m? That's the conversation that needs to be had. Who decided the thickness of that arbitrary line? Make it something that is line with what football is, fast paced and not played by robots. So it needs to be realistic, make that unit at least 10cm, and if there's no obvious discrepancy they're onside. Hopefully next year some smarter people get involved in the tech because some people made this decision that they thought the technology was appropriate to a micro metre, just because the resolution of their computer allowed them to, but get some common sense in there.

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years

This is such a good point. If they made the line a band, then the attacker has to be ahead of the edge of that band. It would solve everything. Make the band 10cms or even half a foot.

I've never understood this, I don't get how they can act like they can operate at such high precision with tools that, as far I can see, have low sensitivity.

Taking just the cameras - they're 50 FPS so 0.02s between each frame. Take the defender as stationary and the forward sprinting at 10m/s for neatness. That's immediately a 20cm difference in the distance between defender and forward between frames, so how can they act like they can make calls to the mm?

      Have I missed something?

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years
        2 years, 10 months ago

Precisely that. That’s why I question the human element because someone is not considering that and seemingly wants to rule out a goal. Maybe they had an argument with their partner in the morning and are in a bad mood? It’s just unfathomable how some of these decisions are being made.

Yes mate this is exactly it. The level of tech they have assumed is so ridiculous compared to the reality, they want to look clever bringing it down to the smallest margins but like you said, there's an inherent lack of precision with just the FPS of the camera and then that leading to the stationary frame deciding when the moment is? There's no margin for error built into the system which is bare bones basics of any science or technical thing. You are stupid as hell if you don't incorporate the random error into your measurements.

Interesting flip side to the VAR negativity (though I am firmly in that camp!) if they had it in the championship today then Derby wouldn't have just conceded to Sheffield Wednesday and now need a few goals to stay up...they haven't really looked like it. Rotterham staying up as it stands.
