Some nice differentials in there. I'm looking a Che Adams as a budget striker too, do you think he's nailed? I'm also looking at the Croatian strikers, Krameric and Petkovic, as I don't think that England will keep a clean sheet.

I think for a lower cost striker Dzyuba is a good bet. Russia are playing first 2 games in Russia and he's pretty consistent at home.

For the standard Euros game I'm surprised the Limitless GW3 gang aren't looking at Patrick Schick. He's a bit pricy at 8.0M for a Czech striker but he has 2 good starting fixtures against a Scotland side which is not the greatest defensively. Croatia are tough but are not as good as 2018.

He's played for some decent sides like Leverkusen, Leipzig and Roma. Despite a goalscoring record which isn't amazing, 10 goals (in 22 games) and 9 goals (in 29 games) the past 2 seasons isn't bad. 10 goals in 24 games for Czech Republic isn't bad despite statistics often being inflated by the likes of San Marino.

Overall he isn't amazing but he's a pretty good option if you'd like to downgrade someone like Ronaldo to upgrade the rest of the squad.

Down to the last 2 or 3 decisions now:

    Schlager / Hradecky

    Spinazzola / Kjaer / Denayer / Alioski / Wijndal

    Eriksen / Torres / Wijnaldum / Beradi / Nego

    Ronaldo / Lukaku / Depay

    Pretty happy with this.

Thanks! My dilemma is if Bernadi doesn't start, I want Elmas. But he's up against my second keeper Schlager, when this team is built to maximise GW1. But happy with the core of this squad.

Berardi should start but we'll know if he doesn't and Elmas is a good replacement.

I would probably go with Donna & 4.5m def over Spinazzola & 4.5m GK.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.

My thinking is Spinazzola offers good assist potential, whereas Donnarumma at the same price doesn't offer anything beyond clean sheets.

But hearing Schlager isn't nailed on has me thinking again

Was going off this in the article here:

"Goalkeeper Alexander Schlager (€4.5m) remains first-choice after starting all World Cup qualifiers this year, even if Daniel Bachmann (€4.5m) had a runout at Middlesbrough."

What do you know that makes you think different?

Villa is now seen more admirable place to go than Arsenal. I am not sure why Grealish would go down a level. If he has any ambition he wants to be playing at a top club. That's City, United, Chelsea and Liverpool in the UK

And Arsenal have zero pulling power with Arteta. You think any creative player or big name player with any worth wants to come to play the absolute tosh Arteta has the team playing. Also the fans are the absolute worst, having one bad performance and having those idiots on arsenal fan tv abusing you every week.

          No thanks

I had a look at the PL table in the 2nd half of the season (19 games). Arsenal were 5th on 34 points, a point behind Liverpool, level with United and a point ahead of West Ham.

Kind of surprised me because I had the impression of a miserable season. Turns out they actually improved a fair bit as the season wore on.

Agree about Arteta though. His sole qualification for managing a big club was that he stood and listened to Guardiola for a while.

          3. Qaiss

I agree about some of the fans but firstly, AFTV are not representative of Arsenal fans. Don’t understand how 15-20 people represent millions of fans.

Arsenal do have pulling power. Signed Aubameyang, Pepe, Partey in the last 3 years. They will always have pulling power.

And whilst I think we’re in an absolute state at the moment, Buendia would have improved us a lot to be fighting closer to top 4. At Villa, their ceiling is mid table.

        2. Qaiss
          • 8 Years

Villa aren’t a level above Arsenal. Grealish would make Arsenal get into the top 4. That won’t happen at Villa.

What? Villa beat Arsenal twice last season and performance only nosedived with the injury to Grealish. With Buendia coming in and possibly JWP, I think Villa's ceiling is higher than mid-table. I think they can fight for a European place.

If Grealish hadn't missed nearly half the season Villa would comfortably have finished 7th id say

If they keep him this summer theyll have Arsenal& Spurs under serious pressure for the 7th spot, along with West Ham, Leeds & Leicester is really not looking good for those two for the next 3-5 years unless something mad happens

Arteta will be gone during the next bad run, which surely isn't far away, and spurs don't even have a manager... Plus 95% of their goals has said he wants the he'll out of there asap

Could definitely see Villa making another step up, they've bought so well over the last 2 years, Smith had done an incredible job overall

What's actually embarrassing is Arsenal fans getting gassed about below average players like buendia

    Which is right?

The table which says England won FIVE games.

Or this .... "It is hard to say England qualified for EURO 2020 with anything other than style, winning SEVEN of their eight matches and, across the whole campaign, only once scoring fewer than four goals in a game."

Did they score 17 goals like the table says or 37 goals like the article says?

I'm trying to prepare for Euro fantasy football. I'm so sick of these amateur mistakes in certain authors articles.

Qualifier rounds not such a good pointer to potential Euros form. Fatigue will be a big factor for plenty of the favourites, especially if they've starters who played longer in CL and EL. More recent games a better method of gauging potential rather than qualifiers.

      1. Ruth_NZ

Yes, completely amateurish to look at qualification when it happened so long ago. But that's FFS, someone pulls a format out of their @rse and they then replicate it 24 times (in this case) and call it analysis. Awfully mediocre.

Isn’t there an obvious Euros chip strategy?

    - Set your team up for round 1.
    - Play your wildcard (or limitless card) for round 2.
    - Play your limitless card (or wildcard) for round 3.
    - Use unlimited transfers to reshape your team between the group stage and last 16...

Why WOULDN’T you follow this strategy? What am I missing..?

its a very viable strategy, but It means if you get a load of players knocked out in the last 16 matches it will be a lot of hits.

Sure. But you get 3 free transfers before the quarters, 5 free transfers before the semis and 5 free transfers before the final...that seems plenty to rejig things so long as you pick a nicely balanced squad post the group stage

          1. GreennRed
            • 12 Years
            2 years, 9 months ago

You can get decent points in first two round with just the 2 FT. Round 3 could be a landmine with some lineups uncertainty cos some teams already out, playing for pride could get a few goals and others resting players as they've two wins. Depending on who gets to last 16 could be going for a couple of eliminated 4m fodders to get a decent remaining 13, prob one of them a keeper. Most benefit though for a QF wildcard is that you can pick any player at all in good form and not take hits if they're out for QF.

          2. Ruth_NZ
            • 9 Years
            2 years, 9 months ago

3 FTs before the QF stage isn't many considering the player pool just shrunk by half. You might think it will be easy to predict the R16 losers but Spain and England went out at that stage in Euro2016 (that was the infamous England 1-2 Iceland). You could very easily find yourself 4, 5, 6 players short and only 3FTs to use.

There are plenty of benefits to a QF wildcard, not the least of which is the ability to go for broke in the R16 rather than picking a balanced squad across all the main teams in order to protect yourself.

    2. Fletch69
      • 2 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

Limitless for round 3 and wildcard for quarters would have been the best strategy for the last World Cup dream team comp. So planning on that for this euro comp.

    Current team. Got 0.5m ITB

    Donnarumma Hradecky
    Chiellini Denayer Wijndal Kjaer P.Torres
Alaba Yazici F. Torres Wijnaldum Berardi
    Depay Lukaku Ronaldo

Not sure whether to stick or do

    A) Ronaldo to Kane and upgrade Hradecky to Simon or Schmeichel?
    B) Chiellini, Yazici and Alaba to Maehle, Nego and Ericksen

If you can afford 2 4.5 keepers i'd just go Hradecky at 4m and get a 5m keeper.

Power forwards & The Captain Chain.

There are 9 premium forwards in the game (£10m+) and whilst we want these players, its no good if they play on the same day, as only one can be part of the captain chain.

    The players in question are: Ronaldo(0.26), Mbappe(0.34), Kane(0.43), Lewa(0.16), Lukaku(0.42), Griezman(0.03), Benzema(0.1), Depay(0.15), Immobile(0.08). Ownership in brackets.

    - The first thing you will notice is 3 of them play for the same team (France).
    - The second thing to note is that the ownership is extremely high for Kane, Lukaku & Mbappe, and to some extent Ronaldo. The rest could be considered differentials, especially Griezman on just 3%
    - Lastly, players who play earlier in the chain have slightly more value than those later in the chain. This is because if anyone scores say 9+ points it would take a brave manager to twist on that score. Opposing view: the earliest players have less value as we know we have more bites at the cherry to come so twisting is an easier decision (see Immobile).

Now lets map these players to when they play.

    1.1 Immobile
    1.2 Lukaku
    1.3 Kane, Depay
    1.4 Lewa
    1.5 Ron, Mbap, Griez, Benz

    2.1 Immobile
    2.2 Lukaku, Depay
    2.3 Kane
2.4 Lewa, Ron, Mbap, Griez, Benz

    3.1 Immobile
    3.2 Lukaku, Depay
    3.3 Kane
3.4 Lewa, Ron, Mbap, Griez, Benz

    Observations:
    - Immobile is well placed to kick off a captain chain and probably should be getting a bit more attention than he is. Has low ownership so cannot hurt.
    - Lukaku & Kane have distinct dates and pair well with each other. They both are the most highly owned players in the game and also appear in the prime spots in the captaincy chain. Its hard not to conclude that they are must own.
    - Depay is in many drafts, but there is an issue with him - he overlaps with either Lukaku (MD1) or Kane (MD2/3), which is something to bear in mind. You could start with Luk/Depay and Limitless in MD2 to Dep/Kane to keep them distinct, but they would still overlap in MD3 as well (although rotation might be a bigger problem at that point).
    - Lewa has a nice spot to himself on MD1.4 (also shares with some Spain options), but competes with everyone else for the remaining matchdays. To be fair he is 100% nailed and the other players on that day will be subject to rotation if they are already through.
    - The rest all play on the final matchday. This implies to me that you dont want a premium French AND Ronaldo at any point - you can only captain one.

Personally, I'm in the LL3 camp, and Depay is a problem for this strategy, so I'm looking at: Luk + Kane + Ron/Mbappe over the first 2 matchdays as it maximises the captain chain. LL2 players can afford to be a little more adventurous.

Nice work. I have just started to look at days and players myself. I have not tried to set up a team with three big strikers.
How many times can i pass the Captaincy on?

What number of players are you aiming to have i a captaincy chain? Realisticly three quality players?

a random Group A player (probably Italy) > Lukaku > Kane > Spain > Ron/France for both matchdays.

MD3 is going to be a lottery thats why I think you have to either LL3 or LL2+WC, a lot of other teams will come into the picture at that point (e.g. Germany vs Hungary) as well being able to punt on fringe players from top squads against weak teams (Belgium vs Finland, Netherlands vs Macedonia, England vs Czech, Italy vs Wales, Spain vs Slovak). In my view LL2 is basically asking for a wildcard in MD3. A lot of people thinking they can make do, but in reality the team wont be good enough for MD3.

Thank you DR.ROG. Yes, that chain seems nice. I have just written down matches for MD1, the seven best matches that look appealing for fantasy game.

All the matches are set up with three hours between them.
If i have Kane playing at 15.00 on Sunday as captain. If i own Depay, i should be able to switch captaincy to him, since he play 21.00?

The thing is if immobile score high, then why do u need to care so much about captain chain,

      1. korbendallas82
        • 10 Years

Of course. And will i eventually select players to form a chain, and then leave out someone who don’t fit in, but i think will do well?

But is it a problem that England and Netherland play on Sunday in Matchday 1?
And that Belgium and Netherland both play on Thursday in Matchday 2?
I am thinking passing captaincy from Kane to Depay on Sunday.
Or from Lukaku to Depay on Thursday.

indeed. maybe there is no need for any portugal/france at all at those prices as its unlikely you will captain them anyway. makes it easier to make a decent team

Have been enjoying your assessments Dr Rog.
While reading, it becomes apparent that Immobile/Depay/Torres/rotating group F becomes a budget & differential captain chain.

More than a few pundits I've listened to say that there's only 5 Englishmen guaranteed to start : Kane, Mount (more likely scorers in the 7m bracket), Rice (no fantasy appeal), Maguire (under injury cloud), Pickford.

he is in 90% of drafts on here.

good form, good fixtures, main man, on pens, cheaper than the other premiums.
not a bad option at all
