    Insigne stick or twist?

    Options left:

    Lukaku/Eriksen
    Depay
    Torres
    CR7

    I'm tempted to twist.

I’m in the same boat Karan. I can’t remember though if you stick for today and lukaku does well can you not put the armband on him on Sunday say?

You can't captain or substitute a player in after their game finishes.

No mate you have to put the armband on a player before he plays.

Well I’m in the same boat. 8pts is such an awkward score. If you move it today I suspect Erickson has the higher ceiling and with no baps the potential clean sheet points come in handy. Basically lukaku has to score twice today to increase your score by 2 points so doesn’t seem worth the risk personally however Erickson could be worth it considering he will likely be assisting any other goals from set pieces etc...

Twist if your in it to win it. If your going to be at the higher end of the leaderboard more than one of your 5 captains is almost certainly going to have to score 8 or points, and points lost by not twisting are going to be harder to make up in such a short format.

Yeah I agree if I twist it will be for Eriksen as he's a bigger differential, has a easier fixture and more explosive being a mid.

I'm sure someone would've covered this somewhere... but going purely by betting odds, the below are the percentage chances of each possible captain (for me) scoring points covering the next four match days. too lazy to look at 2+ goals etc)

Eriksen goal or assist 58% (Lukaku 55%)
    Depay goal or assist 62%
    Torres goal or assist 46%
Cancelo goal, assist or clean sheet 56%

There's a 96% chance one of the above will happen. The lowest (likely, ignoring cards) of these would be an assist and 60+ minutes which would be 5 points before multiplied, and in my case see me score 3 less points than sticking with my current captain (Insigne). Still not sure. 😉

Betting odds for each event converted to percentages and whacked into a probability calculator.

If your new captain choice does worse than your current pick you only lose the points difference.

Chances are high after just 1 game in 12 that at least one of your remaining players wi equal your captain score or improve on it.

I think that's what I covered by saying even with the worst 'scoring' outcome of an assist I'd only be 3 points down had I stuck with Insigne, so 18 points vs 21 (unless I've misunderstood 🙂 ). Judging by the odds, it certainly makes sense to switch.

Bonus percentages: after Saturday 91%, after Sunday 76%, and finally down to Joao. I'm guessing most will have similar players for the most part.

Arsenal in for a new RCB with 3 years left on his contract. A bit bizarre what with 6 players who can play CB back (4 of which RCB) on the books. I can only assume that Saliba goes back out on loan, while one of Chambers, Holding and Mavrapanos are sold, given no European football next season. Or otherwise, 2 of the 4 are sold.

Lots of N-words in this White video mind

He could also be a utility signing with the view to cover DM as well?

Leno, Bellerin, Torreira, Willian and Ceballos are seemingly set to leave (or not come back). AMN also sounds like he's heavily leaning towards going if possible. Can't see much good reason to keep Nketiah unless Balogun goes on loan. Arsenal are already well-know to be targetting at least one midfielder. There's also Nelson and Saliba to think about

I was okay with swapping Lukaku for Lewandowski based largely on this captaincy decision and getting a potential captain for Monday. But that;s not necessarily the same as thinking Eriksen is the better option, I guess. It's pretty tight, and I'm glad I took the decision out of my hands.

Stick or twist thread - Saturday

Post your current captain and score (before doubling)
Post your potental future captains (in order)

    For example:

    Insigne - 8
    Eriksen
    Depay
    Lewandowski
    Cancelo

Replies can be "Stick" or "Twist", but it would also be nice to have some explanations, so more people can benefit from working through the decision in their brains without reposting a Stick or Twist question!

      Berardi -6
Eriksen- (choosing ahead of Lukaku for extra midfield points available and Denmark in solid form playing home. Not easy for Belgium away in Russia ). 2 scores from Eriksen and will stick

Really good question- when I set team yesterday was planning to captain Lukaku but changed mind this morning when reading piece on Eriksen and also how well Russia played at home in 2018 WC -so in hindsight probably a mistake

Definitely twist to Eriksen, yes. The liklihood of you getting 6 or more before the end of the MD is surely higher than 50%, and you could also score a major haul after risking about 0-4 points for it.

      Insigne - 8 (Stick)

Captaincy options are Rodriguez/Eriksen, Depay, Lewandowski, Cancelo. Not really confident on any of these picks getting multiple attacking returns. If they do get, not really an issue, I still own them.

Plan was to stick with 7 or more points captaincy, so I'm going to stick with that instead of overthinking.

P.S. I would have twisted if I had Ferran or Ronaldo for last 2 days.

depends how you want to play the game. 8 points is ok but if lukaku depay/lewa blank and don't get booked that's 6 points lost

I would twist, but I think most would say stick. Agree with you. The loss isn't massive. You still have the opportunity to stick on, say, 6 points today or tomorrow (loss of 2) or of course stick on 8, 10, 13...

      2. artvandelay316

Depends on why you're playing. I am in a mini league of 12 colleagues, many of whom had a lot of Italy points last night. So if I lost some of those points we all have in common by twisting I'd be low in the league. I doubt many of them would twist. I have some great differentials over them to make up the points difference in other matches instead, such as F. Torres and Eriksen.

        1. Deulofail
          • 8 Years

It's still about the probability of losing points though. If you think you are less than 50% likely to lose poits this MD by twisting, then twist! The argument about ML ownership doesn't compute with me, but I'd understand if you thought you wer more likely to lose points than gain (though likely disagree)

I think it also reflects your style of playing the game. If you are a bit of a risk taker - and I am in FPL - then switching captain makes sense. I had Berardi as captain with 6 points so it was an easy decision for me. Lukaku today then we will see.

        So the question is:

        Q.
Would you consider keeping 8 points for your captaincy?
Would you consider keeping 9 points on your captaincy?

A1. I wouldn't consider. I would just keep 8 points, and I would do the same for 9 points.

A2. I wouldn't consider. I would move the captaincy to another player, even though I don't know the rest of the captains, whether I currently have 8 points or 9.

        Will people find this useful?

        1. Holmes
          • 10 Years

Maybe they will. I think its relative and answer will differ based on risk appetite, expectations and players left. Different answer for different manager.

I feel my "happy or not" version is easier to answer 😀

Maybe they will find it useful to get to a decision, but in terms of making good decisions, I'd say, maybe they think they will!

Your question is a perfectly reasonable one. Speaking of appetite and happiness, I'm gonna make some eggs.

Gambling on 16 points from Insigne is a bit greedy IMO. That amount is great and it isn't by any means guaranteed that another of the big names will be able to score and assist. And some could even blank.

4 more bullets to try hit that higher total, if you've setup good captaincy options worth the gamble imo.

I had it on Insigne but moving onto Lukaku tonight.

It's 8 points for the captaincy chip. I'd say that's okay, but not great. No one thinks points are guranteed, or that blanks ar eimpossible, but someone blanks, you move onto the next one, don't you. I think 8 points is more likely to be matched or beaten using the capaincy cascade system for most people, but it depends on the captains you have left.

I think this is poor advice. For example - If you captained Imbile or Spinazzola with 9.
You would be gambling that an attacker is going to get more than a goal and assist. Or a defender is going to get more than a clean sheet and an assist.

It is likely that you would end up with less points than more points!

In the early stages of an international fantasy touranament. It was the same in WC 2018. I have found where the real points are doubling/ even trebling up on teams you think will get clean sheets.

Easier to predict than who will score. As goal scorers could be any number of players on the the day.

Thankfully I just skim articles look at the bolded players and prices. Who is likely to start etc.

TIFO IRL is where you want to go for real indepth info

I looked at this before the Italy match and I got in Spinazzola instead of Florenzi.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H58UgVjKnfU

A lot of FFS is based on bluffling/noise and they all follow the same twitter feeds. Plus there will naturally be a bias towards nations players that are more prominent in the EPL. Important to bear that in mind.

I find the Tifo IRL videos to be relaxing and lovely, but not very useful for research because it takes them 20-30 mins to say things that could be presented in a 5 min video. I've always haded interactive screens in presenting sports analysis.

By the same token if I do want info from FFS videos I find myself putting it at 1.5 speed particularly if Mundy is on! Then I just listen out for names of players. It helps to ignore 'caveats' and filler 😀

But as another poster pointed out the hypothetical example you gave was Lukaku v Kane.

And the crucial part is once you make the transfer you cannot go back on it. So do not be tempted to going messing with your team unless you have 100% made your mind up.

That’s correct. So if you captain Bale in the Wales game and he blanks you couldn’t then switch to Eriksen for Denmark game and then switch to Lukaku after that as they are all the same day. You can switch between matchdays so up until Wales kick off today and then not again until after the games today are completed up until the England game tomorrow. Sorry if that doesn’t read well.

Think of each match day as a block. And you can only make transfers after one block is over and before the next begins.

A new block matchday starts when the first game od that matchday kicks off.

Depends are you a gambler by nature?

Do you think a player really has a chance of getting more than 8 points?

For a striker for example it will have to be a 60 minutes a goal and an assist or more.

For a midfielder you have to decide if that team could also get a clean sheet point at 60 mins and the goals are worth 5.

For a defender you have to be looking for clean sheets 60 mins and an assist or more.

For goalkeepers the you will need a clean sheet 60 mins and the keeper to make 9 saves worth a point each.

Then you have to factor in how physical a game will be. Will a player get a yellow card.

I captained Insigne and I am sticking because it is likely that the score of 8 points will not bettered by much.

I guess the poll is telling you yes? 50% would leave the captaincy on 8 or 9 points. So you'd have though that would be less than 50% if it were just 8 points, probably. And then Lukaku is the top pick of the remaining options. But then, maybe people had a yes-bias due to the initial question asking whether you'd 'consider' changing. And of course, that doesn't take into account the rest of the captains.

        I would.

If you think the end result will be like a Hollywood rom-com film and the nasty heartthrob (Insigne) is not as good as an option as the more plain (Lukaku) who is bit nerdy/socially awkward looking but ripped underneath that shirt.

He may not get the point for the clean sheet or even on pens -
but you the Hollywood rom-com girl has fallen head over heels for him. If that is the case go for it.

I have to believe that one of Lukaku, Kane, Torres and Ronaldo will score at least one goal. That 6 pointer would just be 2 points less than Insigne which I could live with. I’m making the switch. A 6 point return I’ll still be happy with and anything else is a bonus.
