Site Features

Have your say and vote to shape Scout’s FPL editorial content in 2021/22

Fantasy Football Scout would be nothing without its site users and subscribers.

From the small group of like-minded souls who banded together to visit the embryonic website back in 2007 to the millions of visits we now get every season, the FFS community has been there all the way from the beginning and is still front and centre of our thoughts.

The post/pre-season lull has given us the opportunity to assess our editorial output in a bid to make it all the more relevant to you, the readers, for the upcoming campaign.

As part of that drive for continued improvement, our new Members Strategy Manager, Az Phillips, recently carried out our first major survey – the results of which have been hugely helpful in reassessing our approach.

We’re going a step further with this latest mini-appraisal.

While Az’s survey was predominantly focused on existing content, here we switch focus to the features of yesteryear.

Many much-loved (and unloved) article types have come and gone for various reasons over the last 14 years but it has invariably been the editorial teams who have made the decisions to cull or continue a series.

So we’d love to hear your thoughts on everything from Line-up Lessons to the Digest, to see if there is any clamour for their return.

There are nine dormant article strands we’ve picked out from the past – but if there are any that we’ve unfairly overlooked, please do mention them in the usual comments section below.

And feel free to suggest any new ideas that you’d like to see us consider.

For the uninitiated, a guide to each feature is below the survey.

We can’t promise that the majority of them will be making a comeback or even returning in their original guise but we’re keen to hear your thoughts!

HOW MUCH WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE FOLLOWING FEATURES RETURN?

    DCL, Toney +0.5m
    or
    Iheanacho, Wilson +0.0m

Watkins being my other striker. I've been on DCL and Toney all this time but worried that DCL may not get out of the blocks fast going deep in Euro 2020 and Toney is untested.

Anyone else think popular picks such as DCL, Shaw, Kane, etc. may get eased in to the new season or is slightly over a month between the end of their tournament and the new season enough of a gap?

Unless Everton sign another striker DCL should be fine. Everton have just agreed to Richarlison playing in the Olympics for Brazil, so he may not be available.

    Harrison or Sarr?

Don't currently have Raphinha if that matters. Want to give Buendia a shot for those three good fixtures.

think I prefer Sarr at the moment out of the two. Harrison massively outperformed his Xgi last year.
Sarr is Watfords talisman type player. Most will have Rafa as well, diversity is nice until Leeds fixtures lighten up.

Who would you go with ?

    A) Sarabia > Chiesa (6 Italians)
    B) Sarabia > Olmo (3 Spanish)

We get Spanish line up, so will know if Olmo starts or not.

Palace have form. Small club Toffee fans might push out Benitez. A poor start for Santos at Spuds. Cashley finally gets rid of Toon means curtains for Brucie.

OGS - 7 points from the opening 10 matches will not be an acceptable return for a team that has all that attacking talent and has just forked out on Sancho as well.

      both

I think Raphinia has another gear (or even two) he can go up from last season - he only joined Leeds in GW5, didn't start until GW9, And didn't really start delivering until GW14

Whereas Harrison was entering his third full season with Leeds, and I think was at at the absolute top end of his performance range over the season, not sure he can go much higher, and could feasibly fall a wee bit too

I'm on Harrison due to funds. Prefer Raphinha for the extra 0.5.

I think I'm going to give Leeds a few games. They start with MUN, EVE, BUR, LIV - could be difficult to get attacking returns from those. But Raphina is slightly more interesting to me generally.

    Pep rotation thing. Yeah, agreed.

But I ain't seen 1 team with Gundongan. Even if Grealish/Kane move he'll still be a regular???

    And for 7.5m - 13 goals 4 assists.

    Am I missing something?

Sorry if it's glaringly obvious. But he's been nailed in my team since day 1

The thing with Gundogan is we just don't know where he will play. He was absolutely brilliant when he had license to get forward in KDB's absence but much less appealing when he's asked to play deeper.

Mahrez is the one I like the most. No international football over the summer so that could give him an edge over Foden, Sterling and Torres at the start of the season.

    2. Haa-lala-land

He's a great player, and could easily have won FWFY if he had continued to be selected.
When every Man City player is fit, I think his position is a holding mid next to Rodrigo.
I could be wrong, but I think lots of his points when he went on that hot streak last season came when he was handed De Bruynes role, while he was out
So coupled with other viable 7.5m options and the lack of certainty about his position let alone game time, personally I'll wait for a good spot during the season to bring him in. It will all be about timing this season with the Man City assets, I think

      Eze is injured long term.

Harrison, Soucek and Sarr at 6m, ESR, Dallas at 5.5.

The one spot in my team I'm unsure on atm. Was on Sarr, just moved to Harrison, may move back to Sarr. Another consideration I'm having is downgrading to Digne to a 4.5 and getting Maddison instead of a 6.0 mid.

Slight uncertainty with Rodrigo popping his head up toward the end of last season, and BamBam being subbed off more and more on the hour mark
But mainly due to him being 0.5 more than the bunch of 7.5ers available I guess, as well as fixtures.

Fixtures and we aren't exactly starved for strikers at that price point (or cheaper) with good fixtures. I'd go five up top if I could and probably still wouldn't fit Bamford in.

Raph & Harrison offer cheaper routes in and fixtures.

A triple up on wildcard isnt out of the question, although I could potentially say the same about Villa and West Ham as well.

Pricing really is "fantasy" this year.

I don't think Brighton and Leeds away are that great. All the talk about the Brighton and Leeds defense, but at the same time DCL fixtures are great 🙂 But just one good cross from Digne and he could score the header.

just get Welbeck if you want to play the fixtures, and spend the £2m elsewhere.

the overthinking for me is not going from the start with the Chelsea 8.5mln centre forward who is classified as a midfielder

Havertz hype is a bit of a strange one for me

Loads of publicity about the CL final…

But Tuchel starting him in 7 of his 19 league games in charge always seems to get swept under the carpet?

            1. Andy_Social
              • 11 Years
              2 years, 9 months ago

Tuchel took some time to decide the best positions for his players. He tried Werner central and only towards the end did he go with Werner out wide and Havertz in the centre. Short of bagging Haaland, he'll surely start with that, ie playing Havertz in his best position, and optimal for FPL.

                • 14 Years

He only started Havertz in 3 of the last 7 league games though - and chelsea were fighting to get to 4th place then too

If you look at Havertz’s game by game history on transfrmrkt it shows you all the positions Tuchel was playing him in - there was no rhyme or reason to it that I could see

Completely random, and so many benchings in so many important games

Because he got 5 goals in Everton’s last 27 games… finished the season prior with 12 consecutive blanks… and relied way too much on a game against 10 men West Brom in GW2 to pad out last season…

29 goals in last 2 seasons… and 36 returns in total last 2 seasons

Bamford got 28 returns the last one season though

But It’s kind of tongue in cheek to a certain extent anyways mate - DCL certainly isn’t a bad pick on the face of it, he’s been in my team for a while but I’m trying to avoid being lazy with him too

The reason I used the phrase “overthinking” and “trying to be too clever” is really to highlight the ignoring of the arguably obvious that’s potentially creeping in

The obvious being - that DCL was in terrible form in the second half of the season, that Leeds are a much better attack (62 goals to Everton’s 47) that Bamford got nearly as many returns last season (28) as DCL has managed in the last 2 seasons combined (36), that Bamford has pens, that he has a settled manager & system (DCL new manager, new system)…

Expecting DCL to smash because he’s away to Leeds, Brighton & Villa (3x pretty good defences) in the first 5 weeks… is it trying to be too clever?

Whereas Bamford just didn’t care who he played last season, he returned so often the fixtures barely mattered, and worse attacks than Leeds have given Man Utd’s defence nightmares at old Trafford…

Fair enough. It's not that I'm arguing for or against DCL, just don't think picking him is trying to be too clever. If anything it's the opposite and being lazy as you say here.

Yeah overthinking probably the wrong turn of phrase allright

If anything it’s underthinking, just assuming Southampton and burnley home somehow entitle DCL to start like a house on fire

He’s a good pick though, because even if he flops there’s an awful lot of options at 7.5 to swap to, and even Bamford as long as price changes don’t scupper it

What if Leeds don't get new LB, and Dallas ends up there? We would have him and Rodrigo as reverse oop. It would only strengthen Bamford's stock, imo. Also, Bamford had 7 assist too, with penalties, he has good potential for so called mini hauls.

    Which is the better option?

    A. Bamford + Bowen
    B. DCL + Raphinha

      Bamford and Bowen for me.
Don't dismiss Bowen. He got a lot of game time last season, and played furthest forward when Antonio was out, which is good considering West Ham have zero other strikers.

    Rate my Euro team please
Using my 5 free transfers (Schick>>Immobile, Lukaku>>Dolberg, Meunier>>Bonucci, Spinazzola>>Maguire, & Sarabia>>Sterling) this is the team that I end up with:
    Pickford—Simon
    Alba—Shaw—Maguire—Bonucci—Mæhle
    Insigne-Sterling-Hojbjerg-F.Torres-Grealish
    Kane—Immobile—Dolberg

There are ways that I could get Morata, Chiesa, Emerson, Donnarumma, etc into my team if I switch around my sub strategy, but this was my first attempt. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Bringing a price rises chart into FFS would be amazing. You can get it elsewhere but if it was in house, no-one would bother to go to other sites. The one missing ingredient.

How accurate would it be though?

And more meet the manager which is great. Get Magnus Carlsen on - that would be a coup

Structure forums i.e. a RMT forum. Most comments and points get swamped by someone coming in with a

    a) Raphinha
    b) Harrison

I was going to pre-empt the joke of someone commenting but didn't want to ruin the fun 😀
