Remember England lost to a handball (86), should’ve had a player sent off against us (93), had a player sent off because of Simone (98), had a player sent off because of Ronaldo (2006), had a clear goal disallowed (2010)
It's about time we had a decision go for us with the Sterling penalty

Isn’t “It’s Coming Home” in reference to the World Cup?

It was originally for Euro 96. Once Germany won the tournament and took the song back home with them, it was re-released again in 98 with different lyrics and a new video.

Alright finals team is looking this way with the 5 free. Seems kinda boring.
I’m guessing there’s more interesting players in the Italian midfield to play around with.

    Pickford (Donna)
    Shaw, Maguire, Stones (Dumfries, Kimpembe)
    Saka, Mount, Sterling, Insigne, Chiesa
    Kane, Immobile (Oyarzabal)

Tactical & financial question for more experienced FPL competitors:

If you consider same-price players to be equally likely to earn your team points, which is it better to own at the start of the season - the players with high ownership or the differentials?

The high ownership players if the differentials aren't likely to help you much.

      1. Sheffield Wednesday
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 8 months ago

Thanks. Mostly I'm deciding on 5.5M defenders, 4.5M defenders and 7.5 to 8M forwards respectively. I wasn't that concerned with overall ownership when selecting my team - just in my opinion their expected points contribution medium term. But say some selections don't work out, which approach will be easier to put right later on. e.g. if I don't choose Fofana and Lamptey, Shaw, Watkins, etc at the start will I be left in the lurch.
(Last season I had AWB, not Shaw so nothing new there)

    2. RogDog_jimmy
      • 3 Years

Conceptually it feels like it helps to go with the lower owned but actually if your evaluation is correct it literally makes 0 difference.

      Let’s say
      95% own player A
      5% own Player B

Both players average 6 points a week over 4 weeks.

If you get 6 from A and so does just about everyone else then you still get 6.
If you get 6 from B and everyone else gets from A then you still get 6.

If you’re evaluation is correct you should get both players.

      1. Sheffield Wednesday

But do low ownership players have greater volatility in price depending on how well they perform?

    3. Holmes
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

Ideally, we have to pick a player who is likely to score more points irrespective of ownership. In 2nd half of the season, going for differentials makes sense since we are aware of risk-reward situation plus there is a need to recover points asap.

Whereas in 1st half of the season, I would just try to pick players likely to score more points with zero attention to ownership. If it means picking Beundia over Raphinha or Toney over Wood, so be it. As they say, price/team value increment will follow the points, so focus on points only.

    4. Thomas Magnum
      • 8 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

In short I’d say start with the higher owned player.
But in long there’s a few factors you’d have to consider, as most likely there won’t ever be a true pairing of the same priced players, as there’s always some factor such as set pieces, positioning, whether they’re captain etc etc (if Salah and Mane were the same price pens would sway to salah, if Dunk was 4.5 then his set piece threat and captaincy would sway us toward him from the brighton bunch, etc.) me personally I’d stick with the higher owned take whatever points he gets so I won’t get left behind early and then look to make up points with some other differentials

    5. Ginkapo FPL
      • 12 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

What does equally likely to score points mean? Same likely points? Same likely points spread/variance?

Its unlikely that there are ever two players with completely equal points potential. They may have similar likely points, but one will have a higher ceiling and with it greater volatility.

At the end of the day the only differential in fpl is points. Nothing else matters

I think I'm going to go big on one of the team. GK + 4 defenders. Did the same with Portugal in Euro 2016.

Italy vs England seems to be a 1-0 type of a game.

      1. Holmes
        • 10 Years

Picking the right side is tricky though. Italy are conceding lately, so England could be the team to go for.

I think I would be happy with 3 from each defense and hope for 0-0 😀

Yeah it's definitely tough but I'm tempted to go with 4 def + gk from England. Italy attack has been good but not great since the KOs.

3 each from one team will probably mean a red/grey arrow unless it's a 0:0.

True, get Shaw as 5th defender (5-3-2) or some cheap Italian mid (4-4-2)?

Cheap Italian midfielder. Wouldn’t captain a defender this round. Think the game will be 1-2 Italy win, so maybe an attacker is better imo but England could easily win as well

Doubt any of these teams can score 2 goals against each other. They haven't conceded more than once this tournament. Both defences very good. It's a 1-0 or 1-1 written all over it.

Watching Sterling and Kane throw themselves to the ground at the slightest touch and listening to the English commentators speak of great play at "drawing the foul" brought a smile to my face. FFS is one of the only social media sites I use. I assume most of the users are British or members of the Commonwealth of Nations. I can't understand why there are so many negative comments e.g. divers, home advantage, etc. towards England's performances on this site. Italy are good but not that special. England have a great opportunity to win the Euros so let's get behind them.

If being a part if a negative culture was contingent upon admitting to it then most negative cultures wouldn't be cultures at all.

You do not need to claim to be part of that culture to be part if that culture. The lack of self awareness in that statement is alarming. The judgemental thing seems to be creeping in again. You see so clearly all the negativity in others but if a comment causes self reflection you say you are only part if it if you say so. Wow

I said none of these things.

You claim I am judgemental. I do not disagree

You claim I am negative. I do not disagree.

If we are to change the culture we must first acknowledge the issues with it. Responding to me with further negative and judgemental comments is not constructive to positive action, all it does is continue to reinforce the poor culture.

Probably in part thanks to England supporters saying it’s coming home every 30 seconds, it’s becoming insufferable. Before England would get knocked out early in tournaments and what you’d hear was the negative “same old England” rants from England supporters. Now they’re winning games and they’re magically kings of the football world again. England are also good but not that special, they’ve faced very little adversity all tournament long. In saying that, I don’t care much for either country, hard to support either one when you have players like Immobile and Sterling going down at the faintest of touches but that’s most players in the modern game I guess

Ings would be a better fit at City for a season until they can sign Haaland next season imo

City not signing slow Kane then?

I think they’d be silly to if they can sign the younger and less injury prone Halaand at the end of this coming season for less money.

I think all the signs are pointing to Kane at City.

All the noises so far are just negotiating games, including the smokescreen offer for a player they dont need in Grealish

I think he’ll stay at spurs for another season

So they you think they need Kane? But don't need Grealish? Which of these more closely suits the style? And both would start about every other match just like Mahrez, Sterling, Foden, Jesus et al.

Kane is more than just a finisher - just look at the match last night - he is a playmaker, can hold the ball up and draw fouls, and can finish left/right/head. He will certainly fit their style, in fact he will complete it.

Grealish is just more of the same for them. Sterling/Foden are 26/21 respectively, so its not like they need replacing.
