I agree. I used FFHub last season which had very similar insights and it just created a mess.

      I'll stick with this site.

Hey LegendMoon, just wanted to be super clear to you and everyone else that collaborating with Fantasy Premier Tools will not in ANY way impact on the support and relationship we have with LiveFPL.

We have championed Ragabolly's incredible live tools and site for years (and got increasingly behind it in the last two) and nothing is changing about that, we'll continue to work closely with LiveFPL in 21-22 and beyond, in fact we're even plugging a few bits into our new members area!

FPL is an increasingly broad church though and we will continue to look for new partners that are doing interesting things in the space, and Premier Fantasy Tools is one of these. PFT also offers a version of the Hall of Fame, that doesn't mean we'll be abandoning ours, quite the opposite - we have some cool developments coming up on that front soon!

I always use Ragabolly's site on matchday and only log into FPL Tools when LiveFPL crashes. Pretty sure I'll have LiveFPL as my default matchday site again, with this as backup.

Also to clarify, it selects top captain based on your team, so it will rank captains based on who is actually in your squad, and also give you differential options. Its a tool we look to further improve, so feedback as always is very welcome.

    Membership Question:

I have my membership set to auto-renew from last year (on 3rd August). However, my debit card has since expired.

What is the best way I go about sorting this, given there is no option to change payment settings, other than cancel renewal?

    Cheers.

Hazz - Email me please, ted@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk, and I'll explain. (Can't say publicly as I have to talk about account details)

Flair - Likewise to Hazz, email me if you want to talk specifics but your renewal cost will be whatever you originally signed up at and not the current price. That is to say, if prices go up it won't impact you, just new customers. Therefore you are likely due to pay less than the current promotion so don't cancel if you still want membership!

I've never known a team like you before.

    Sanchez (Gunn)
    Digne, James, Tierney, Coufal (Reguilon)
    Salah, Mane, Son, Pepe, Raphinha
    Watkins (Origi*, Obafemi)

Pumping half the budget into midfield as they get an extra point per goal and also a point for a clean sheet.
*assuming Origi gets a move to another prem club.

    A few thought provokers;

    A) Is TAA essential at the expense of players such as Digne and Tierney which will be replaced with 4.5s?
    B) Coufal or Creswell?
    C) A lot of clamour around ESR, will he be nailed on?

      Yes (unless they sign another)

      No
      Coufal
Doubt it come season start myself (uninformed guess)

TAA is dead expensive. Think he needs very regular cs to outpace the 5.5 types for value - I'm sceptical about that. He looks the likely source of returns but Digne Shaw Castagne James Cresswell could all easily be better value and closely match returns. There are also plenty of 7.5 forward types who can out value him. Advisable but scarcely essential.

    Bachmann
    TAA Robbo Veltman
    Salah Mahrez Havertz Raphinha
    Antonio Watkins Wilson

    Ayling Brownhill. 0.5 ITB

Mahrez and Havertz are just good price points for Sancho/Son depending upon how they look in the initial 2-3 weeks.

Robbo is the cash cow if funds are needed further forward.

        Havertz Wilson+ 0.5
        Vs
        Toney Son

        I have the 0.5 for a potential Mahrez> Sancho in Gw3/4.
Prefer Wilson over Toney. As he is more proven.
Son is a big upside for you. But i'd wait and watch for the first 2 weeks. Like Havertz for the first 2.

      Nice enough

Like the 0.5 itb - smart play

Havertz over Mahrez for preference here but tasty double up.

I have Robbo money further updfield to start - dubious about early clean sheets there and rather move money back not forwards. Half of one...

Not keen on the triple 7.5 up top but that could work of course. I'll be interested to see how long you hold them and where you go from them.

They were all deeply irritating at 6.5 - don't see that the price changes make them better players.

I suspect the real value will be at the price below and I'm happy to start with Toney and then move off onto whoever appears there. Like to have a transfer spot personally,

Biggest issue though is this. They are only value in my experience if you hold and hold. None of them were fixture dependent but all really produced erratically. Switching in and out didn't work. Having three players of that ilk in one spot is at least one too much for me. A game play issue - just not my style.

      If 4 at back : Digne-Keane-Godfrey-Coleman

      If 5 at back : Digne-Keane-Mina-Godfrey-Coleman

Mina might also get a start in 4 at back with Keane/Godfrey dropping.

  12. Would Grealish be nailed at City?
    Nate(U)dog(ie)
    • 3 Years
    2 years, 9 months ago

I have Grealish and Foden in my current draft and have been pondering who I'd prefer to keep (if either) if Grealish goes to City. Was thinking for the price he'd end up being you'd imagine Grealish would still get a lot of starts as they wouldn't buy him to bench him regularly, but then I remembered players like Mahrez that were bought for high prices and that didn't get too many starts in their first full season so I figured I'd take a closer look to see if there is a pattern under Guardiola of this.

    16/17
    - Sane: £46m - 20 starts (26 apps)
    - Gundogan: £24m - 9 starts (10 apps)
    - Stones: £50m - 23 starts (27 apps)

    17/18
    - Bernardo: £45m - 15 starts (35 apps)
    - Mendy*: £51m - 4 starts (7 apps)
    - Danilo: £27m - 13 starts (23 apps)
    - Jesus**: £28m - 19 starts (29 apps)

    18/19
    - Mahrez: £61m - 14 starts (27 apps)

    19/20
    - Cancelo: £58m - 13 starts (17 apps)

    20/21
    - Torres: £20m - 15 starts (24 apps)
    - Ake*: £40m - 9 starts (10 apps)

    Outliers:
    - Ederson (2017): £36m - 36 starts (36 apps)
    - Walker (2017): £47m - 32 starts (32 apps)
    - Laporte (2018): £58m - 34 starts (35 apps)
    - Rodri (2019): £56m - 29 starts (35 apps)
    - Dias (2020): £61m - 32 starts (32 apps)

*Both Ake and Mendy were out for long periods of time due to injury
**Jesus was bought in January 17 so 17/18 was his first full season

For the most part it seems like defensive players that Guardiola has bought end up fairly settled in terms of match time in their first season, but attackers are the ones that struggle to nail down a regular spot. Bare in mind also that it has been 3 years since Guardiola has looked to spend very heavily in reinforcing his attacking (I'm disregarding Torres as he was £20m and City bought him earlier than planned to avoid a bidding war with other teams).

If they're smashing their transfer record, along with Grealish probably being their best attacking player aside from KDB, then it's likely he starts most weeks.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

I would agree, but Mahrez is an example to just be aware of. City made no other notable signings that summer and broke their transfer record for him. They now also of course have a plethora of attacking options that can play in a number of positions (including Sterling and Foden at LW, presumably where Grealish would play).

    2. tuvok
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

Thanks for this. I know this is boring but we will just have to wait until city get into a proper pattern of play won't we.

I think Pep roulette can get overstated sometimes, during long stretches that aren't interrupted too much by important cup games (e.g. autumn run; winter run where they went on the winning streak with Gundo scoring all the goals) they often have a recognisable first 11, with many key players playing every game.

At some point Grealish (8.0), Torres (7.0) or Foden (8.0) will probably establish themselves and get a run of starts and become a serious bandwagon.

      In a word: “No”

In more detail: If you said city can start 5 “attackers” in any given game (put forwards, wingers, 10’s & 8’s all together for estimation purposes)

That gives a total pool of available starts of 190 for a full season (38 games x 5 slots)

City’s starts (apps) last season below across their “attackers” comes out to 182 starts, which is pretty close

      Sterling - 28 (31)
      Mahrez - 23 (27)
      Foden - 17 (28)
      Torres - 15 (24)
      Jesus - 22 (29)
      Bilva - 24 (26)
      KDB - 23 (25)
      Gundo - 23 (28)
      Kun - 7 (12)
      Total starts = 182

If you add Grealish and remove Kun, it just doesn’t look good for anyone on that list to start more than 25 games imo

Certainly not to start more than 30 (I think at KDB’s age now even he will struggle to go above 30 starts)

Especially when you factor in that Foden & Torres surely aren’t going to get *less* starts than last year - that leaves even less of the pool available for others to share.

Linearly, those 9 players sharing 190 starts comes out at 21 each, so I think pretty much all of them will be operating in the 20-25 starts ballpark

It’s just hard to see how it’s wise going near any of these guys without an injury bottleneck or something of that ilk that clearly signposts who is going to be starting for an extended period of time

      Good analysis.

My initial thought is that Grealish is most certainly not nailed at City. Nobody really is nailed at City, except maybe KdB.

If Grealish goes to City, it dents the appeal of both Villa and City assets in my opinion. Villa and the likes of Watkins and Buendia will miss him, while at City he just adds to the Pep roulette.

Jesus, Sterling, Mahrez, Silva, Torres, Foden and Grealish all competing for the 3 attacking spots. I know Foden and Silva can play deeper maybe but still, 2 or 3 of those minimum are going to miss out every single game. You might see as many as 4 of those attackers benched in a game.

Personally, I'd like a situation where City attackers are more of an option. If they are getting on average only every second game, it makes them mostly irrelevant for large parts of the season. Which is a shame. If they don't sign Grealish, it at least might make the likes of Foden and Sterling better options, while retaining Grealish as an option at Villa.

Of course City players are never nailed, but I do think Grealish will be a relevant FPL asset this season.

Logically, this idea that Bilva will leave if Grealish arrives is what you'd expect: https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-transfer-talk/story/4442667/transfer-talk-manchester-citys-bernando-silva-seeks-exit-if-jack-grealish-joins

That only leaves KDB, Grealish, and Gundo for Pep's two 8's. Not sure any of the other options are really trusted for these roles. If one plays false 9, there's even a chance they could all play together.

I rate Grealish high. Still, hype around the guy is astonishing. He's potentially going to a club, where we have several lads fighting for the attacking spot. He didn't smash FPL number in Aston Villa, where he was a talisman. In City he'll be one of many imo. Watch out for overrating him.

After weeks of a 4-4-2 with Fernandes I've downgraded him to Son and switched to 3-4-3. May well revert to the previous team before the deadline but I'm a bit concerned about United's preseason. Spurs on the other hand have the majority of their senior players and Son is looking razor sharp.

    Sanchez
    TAA, Digne, Tierney
    Salah, Son, Mahrez, Buendia
    Antonio, Watkins, Wilson

    Foster; Brownhill, Ayling, Omobamidele.

One consideration is Tierney to White and upgrade Omo to Fofana but I really like Tierney's attacking threat.

We're fairly similar in our thought process to be honest. Whilst I've also been preaching about United's preseason, I am considering a way to put him into my team. In the grand scheme of things, we're talking about United potentially losing the game but that doesn't mean Fernandes wouldn't get a return.

I think your team is very good by the way.

Yeah I'm definitely open to going from Son and Wilson back to Bruno and AWB/Shaw. Will have to see how the rest of preseason pans out for United. For all we know Bruno could be one of the players with COVID.

United may turn out to have had the best preseason of the big teams in making their purchases early and allowing time for bedding in?

Not sure you can call Spurs almost complete with the Kane cloud hanging over them - esp in FPL terms. Take him out and they are a very different proposition. (Do have Son here too but I'm discounting preseason sharpness and using him as a convenient price point and known reliable performer)

Time for bedding in? They have a COVID outbreak in their camp and have just cancelled their penultimate friendly. I assume they aren't allowed to train as a group either.

They'll have more time than any City or Chelsea transfers post season start.

Also part of the issue with new transfers is the business of actually moving home and often country - that will be unaffected. Friends with someone who works at the United set up whose job it is to settle in newbies. It goes way beyond what is on the pitch.

They've not returned the camp until this weekend mate. (Majority of the normal first team, along with Sancho). Varane hasn't arrived yet due to quarantine requirements etc. So yeah Heaton has been bedded in, that's it.

Definitely something to consider. I've been planning no Bruno from the start due to his poor form since around February, but I was considering trying to work Sancho or Greenwood in but I think I might just stick with slabhead for now now that I've been reminded of the slow starts that they've had recently.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the scoreline. A lot of chopping and changing in the team throughout the game. Just good to see the main players get mins under their belt.

Both have the fixtures, potential CS and attacking returns. If I compare Robbo at 7m to over 7m mids or fwds, I prefer the nailed consistency of Robbo

Both Robbo and AWB averaged about same amount of pts per match. Therefore I find it difficult to justify using that extra 1-1.5 million to have Robbo. Digne, Shaw, AwB, Chelsea defs, Stones, Reguilon are all competing with him. And there is one thing to remember, covid hasn't gone away and triple ups are still serious extra risk this season. (I remember too well having 5-6 players in a cancelled match last season.)

Digne created 11 'big' chances last season (same as Robbo). That is up there with the mid-high priced midfielders.
He will possibly be taking more set pieces this season.
Rafa has already said that he is focusing on getting more crosses into the box, so expect more chances created (and bps).
Also expect more cleansheets due to the Rafa effect.
I'm expecting Digne to score around 150points, excellent value for £5.5m.

Curious on how Rafa deploys him

More crosses in the box could mean Townsend and Iwobi as wingers and less emphasis on Digne in wingback mode perhaps. Think there are some mixed messages from preseason in this regard. But you're right if Digne is in wingback mode then he is a prospect and decent enough as a fullback on set pieces.

I’m still heavily leaning towards giving him a crack of the whip

Served me very well for the run in last year, he read the script & almost perfectly delivered points when in my team & vice-versa

He’s got several positives that not many other players have

Certainty of start, attacking instincts, track record of producing attacking returns over the seasons, corker of a left footed set piece delivery, a bit of the old FPL X-Factor…

Lots have players have one, two, three of those strings to their bow, but it’s a very select group that have all of them

Would be nice if Jrod would feck off to jail along with Siggy though just to nail down the set piece dominance aspect - that bit is still a bit up in the air

Does the wealth of attacking fullbacks in the £5.0-£5.5m range make TAA & Robbo less essential this season?
Digne, James, Shaw, Tierney, Reguilon & Coufal all capable of getting around 8 assists and 10+ cleansheets.

    1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

Robbo - yes - he was much luckier than TAA last season when you scratch into some underlying data

TAA - that’s a hard no from me - that guy was freakishly unlucky last year & still ended up with a respectable points total

If he reverts to “normal” output from his underlyings along with Liverpools defensive upturn he has a very clear path to 200 points

Whereas the “wealth of attacking fullbacks” are very hard to pick & guess from week to week who will be getting the 2’s & who will be getting the 12’s

None of us have a crystal ball unfortunately & it’s hard to nail player’s hauls in individual gameweeks

Really hope this goes through for FPL purposes

Simultaneously puts Grealish in risky FPL territory, makes City mids game-time even more dodgy to predict, probably rules out Kane moving before TDD (will city spend 250m on two players in one window??) and a makes fair few Villa assets less attractive too all else being equal

    Foster; Veltman, Brownhill, Davis

Thoughts? Quite a lot of £ in defence but it's either this or a 3-4-3 with Robbo dropping out and Toney up top. I'm thinking Robbo has a much higher ceiling than Toney over the first 6 GW's.

Could potentially switch to a 4-3-3 too with Toney over Sarr, with 2 x £4.5 midfielders and £4.0 defender on bench - but not sure that gives me as much flexibility.

I think it's decent, and I can see the reasoning behind it due to fixtures, but I don't think personally that the Liverpool defensive double up is worth it at the moment. I don't think it's fair to expect VVD to just slot straight back in at his absolute best after such a long lay off. Henderson and Fabinho - so important to Liverpool's CS hopes - might not be up to full speed after their busy summers. No Gini anymore either. Liverpool's pre-season form has been so-so.

Interesting, I guess we will know wither way before the season starts anyway.

If Grealish does go to City, I think it's bad for FPL. Increases Pep roulette and makes Villa options less attractive.

Feel the same way. Will probably move to Buendia just to cover them and Watkins did well in his absence at the end of last season but it's Grealish, he makes so many opportunities for a team like Villa so they'll miss him a lot even if someone like Bailey comes in to replace him

All Villa options are less appealing if Grealish leaves imo. Could be wrong, maybe everything will go through Buendia now and he'll be the chief chance creator, but I can't see Villa improving as a team if they lose their best player.

All looks good. Just an immediate thought - those season trackers are a nightmare for colour blind people like me who can’t differentiate between green and red. Having the option to change the colour range would be awesome. Yellow - blue, for instance.

That colour range (blue to red) is MUCH better for me.
I suffer from the most common form of colour-blindness - red-green (where they look the same-ish). So anything other than a red/green scale would be better for me. But others might also struggle with the red-to-blue one. Gonna sound boring, but to me the clearest way it could be marked out on those season trackers would be in grey-scale! Or a tonal range of one colour. I find that very clear.
If you can somehow offer the option of changing the colour range, eve if just one other choice of colours, I am sure most colour blind people would appreciate it!

I do get red and green very much confused yes, but somehow that doesn't happen at traffic lights. My eyes don't pick up the colour red very well. It looks duller than it does to most people. At traffic lights, the green light looks very bright (almost white), the red light looks like a dark light (not a black light!).

The problem with traffic lights used to be on those streets where there are lots of amber streetlights. The red lights could blend into a row of amber traffic lights for me! Probably even more dangerous than getting the red and green mixed up when you KNOW that it's a traffic light (because even completely colour blind people know which one is at the top/bottom!) because you might be approaching a red light and not even realise! I don't come across those sets of amber street lights so much, but I have to stay alert for traffic lights when I am on street lit streets like that.

Given that Sigurdsson might not be in the squad this season (if the rumours of being arrested are true).. makes Digne more appealing and on all set pieces right?

Yes there's a chance Digne gets more set-pieces if Siggy and James aren't on the pitch (rumours James will be sold as he doesn't get on with Benitez)

I get that you guys run a business but Ragabolly has all this and more. It seems to be turning into a pay per article business.

Times change but you shouldn't forget where you came from..........

Hi Spatburgunder, just to reiterate the point I made earlier.
Starting to work with PFT doesn't mean we're cutting off LiveFPL in any way, Ragabolly's site is part of our network and will continue to be a goto place for live data and promoted through our channels.

When you say 'pay per article' business, what do you mean?
We put up more free content and resources on more games than anyone, nothing has changed on that front in the last few years (in fact we've increased the volume).

Not many going for Cavani? Better option than Bamford surely at a similar price

As a United fan I'd be expecting him to start every game

If you think he is "surely better" then go with him, most people probably don't think that way and hence don't have him

      Cavani 8.5, Bam 8.0

Nacho, Watkins, Wilson, Antonio all only 7.5

    Which is better?

    A. Wilson + Harrison + Veltman + White
    B. ESR + Harrison + Shaw + Digne
    C. ESR + Raphinha + Shaw + Dunk
