Fantasy Football Scout’s very own Mark Sutherns has been discussing his latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team draft with video regular Andy North over on our YouTube channel.

This is an exclusive for Premium Members – and there’ll be plenty more to come in 2021/22.

Mark will be filming one video just for subscribers every week throughout the upcoming campaign, so sign up via this link in order to see them.

FPL pre-season: Trossard hits hat-trick from wing-back role 1

In this first instalment, the FPL BlackBox co-host and Andy chat about Jack Grealish (£8.0m), Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Danny Ings (£8.0m) before launching into a discussion on their latest drafts.

Mark explains his 3-5-2 set-up, premium midfielder choices and omission of Bruno Fernandes (£12.5m).

Andy throws his own selections under the spotlight, explaining his preference for a 3-4-3 and inclusion of Harvey Barnes (£7.0m).

thoughts on this Mid heavy team? clearly no TAA is madness but curious to hear your thoughts…

    Sanchez
    Shaw Veltman Chambers
    Salah Bruno Son Mahrez Raphinha
    Antonio Toney

    bench: Ayling Obafemi 4.0def

could also do Veltman Mahrez > TAA Sarr as a route to Trent

Need or Robertson. Bruno> a better defense

That looks a very ambitious team. Personally think the value in defence is decent, especially in the 5.5 bracket. I'm willing to wait for more season data before I swerve for a midfielder in the premium-to-midprice bracket.

Looking at something similar so I like it.
Only worry is no Trent obviously but I think it's worth adding funds into attack for.

Not bad, although I don't think you need Mahrez, could downgrade to Barnes and have someone better than Chambers

Get TAA, downgrade Mahrez, he will definitely get benched, his performance and overall Man City performance at the Comm. shield were not impressive at all. They are clearly missing a striker as noticeable.... I'll be going without any Man City in my GW1 team.

Can someone explain why Digne is in the template team?
His stats ( PPG etc) aren’t great, and his team isn’t either.

Rafa, good fixtures and likely to be on all set-piece was the main attraction.

I think his ownership will drop in next few days.

Yeah he's out. Wasn't on set pieces yesterday either. Put in some decent crosses as per but at 5.5m I expect a better defence + set piece threat.
Granted, our attack wasnt the greatest yesterday but Adams and Tella not starting a part in that.

FYI Good info thread here https://twitter.com/bigmanbakar/status/1424095011000492034?s=21

      Example:
Big chances created: (defenders in 2021)
      Trent 11
      Cresswell 9
      Coufal 8
      >>>Digne 6
      Shaw 5
      Robertson 4

There are also some stats on Digne with and without Sigurdsson that you may find interesting.

The opening fixtures were a part of the attraction, but after watching Toffees yesterday, I don't see too many keeping the faith, especially if you saw the three United 5.5 defenders.

Talk to me about Leicester full backs.

    Bertrand
    > Looks to be on set pieces yesterday (and the deliveries were pretty decent)
    > Probably one of preseason's most impressive performers for Leicester.
    > Justin and Castagne still out. Even with Castagne back I think Timmy's far more effective on the right.
    >Cut price at 5m

    Ricky P
    > Historically and excellent attacking outlet
    > If Timmy comes back I can see him being pushed to RW to displace Ayoze. Just a theory.
    > 5.5m.

    Castagne
    > Injury not thought to be overly serious. So might be back soon.
    > Has shown to be surprisingly effective as an aeriel threat in the box when the cross comes in from the opposite flank.
    > 5.5m.

Pereira could be outstanding but my concern with Leicester defense is how they handle having one fit CB (for now). Weren't an elite defense last season either.

Last seasons underlying stats show them to be effective limiting opposition xG against the lower teams.

        https://twitter.com/FplGromit/status/1417185405108203525?s=19

I think Rodgers finally trusting Amartey instaed of weakening his midfield by pushing Ndidi back is a positive move. Ndidi was my clear MoTM yesterday, just cleaned up.

Only player to get my interest in last night game was Bertrand.

With first choice defender out, I guess they will probably concede.

Yeah Bertrand looked excellent, his set pieces looked especially impressive. I'm okay owning him over Digne.

Castagne will be eased in, likely to be second choice to Ricardo for most of the season bar injury, although he will get a lot of gametime as our season is long.

Bertrand looks very solid, will probably not get forward as much as Ricardo but does have set pieces in his locker and when he does go forward he looks sharp.

Ricardo looks like his 2019 self again and I'm personally banking on a big season from him, he may not be the perfect FPL asset especially with Leicester relying on Amartey/Benkovic for at least until the first international break, bar a new signing, but he is certainly an option.

I like Son more considering Bruno's shorter pre-season and the question marks surrounding Man Utd on their first game back. At the same time Bruno is Bruno, so it's definitely a move I'll consider

      Why AwB over Shaw?
I think it wise to hold on to the 2m and await more data. Im in that boat rn. That team looks strong on paper in GW1 at least.

Think Wan-Bissaka will thrive with an actual RW to play off, although Utd may play Sancho on the left to begin with which could hurt me. He was not supported in attack a lot last season, think this will change.

I may well hold, depends if Ings starts in Villa's next friendly. May swap him and Benrahma to get Bruno or Mane if I'm feeling brave.

Sounds like a plan. I'm yet to be convinced of AwB, especially with Sancho still unavailable early on. But I think United have finally gotten a proper Right side to fully utilize, I'd like to see how it affects AwB's Fpl output.

Omobamidele looks reasonably nailed for the early games.
Livramento probably wont start early on but i suspect he wont be on the bench for long. Class yesterday.
Lowton missing yesterday again (not sure why) so Bardsley maybe for Gw1.
Semedo missing yesterday replaced by Hoevee due to being pinged but should make the Leicester game.

Benrahma has never been a goal threat at PL level, though I do like him. Don't mind Greenwood but Man Utd have a couple too many variables. Would definitely keep Barnes though, whilst he may not get 90 minutes the first couple weeks as he continues to improve his fitness, he shouldn't need it to get points, especially against whoever Wolves play at left back

      1. King Kohli

Hes flying in preseason and certainly has the quality about him. Did not settle last season but looks like he haa now and is playing the Lingard role now for West Ham.
Greenwood looks good to start for the first 3 gws imo with Sancho, Cavani not fully match fit. Martial also just played his first 45 mins after 5 months out.

Agree with this. Benhrama looks like he's gonna make a good start to the season. Might get rotated once Europe kicks in, but I'll likely wildcard about then. Starting Barnes too after yesterday.

Maybe yeah. I think they might take a few games to sort themselves out - and it’s easy enough to restructure with a WC.
I suspect I’ll want 3 premium attackers once transfers season is over and so this let’s me structure for that ahead of time.
I’m more scared about only having a 6.5 & 7.5 up front than the defense.
Not a lot of options if Toney doesn’t work out.

I think there were a lot of doubts he'd be ready for the start. These doubts should be put to rest again.

He has been in and out of my team, not sure about his CS potential and even after being on corners last year, he managed something like 4-5 assists?

I will probably start with him but feels like he is one of those players who aren't going to convert numbers into points.

Thinking about this as well, but fixtures do look good and I think he inderperformed his XGi last year…

he played very well in our four nil thumping of Everton...just watched it this morning...I wasn't gone on him up til recently (mostly due to his fitness to start the season) but he's a must for me now

I can't afford him, and won't be tearing up my side to do so either. Think he'll do well this season but will frustrate as well.

Just realized that my current draft is the first one without Havertz since the game opened...he's the only one that'll truly pain me if he hauls!

think I'm set on a 523 set up to begin with mate...Vardy in as a placeholder for Lukaku once Chelsea's fixtures improve a little

That's the spot I'm finding hardest to settle on. Son, Mahrez or Havertz? Latest draft has him on the basis that he'll be desperate to perform 100% with Lukaku in the stands.

Lukaku pretty much a blue. How does it affect them in regards to FPL assets. Kai Timo? Pros and Cons

It's put me off Havertz, not because I think it will have a negative effect on his output (I actually think the opposite) but the fact I'll want Lukaku as I think he'll rip it up this season. He's a much better player than he was with Chelsea, WBA, MUN and that's scary!

Definitely. I'm planning to wildcard GW7. I'll load up on Chelsea and City assets as I jettison United and Liverpool as all four have substantial fixture turns at that point.

All settled couple of days ago but not anymore… starting to consider Greenwood+Jota for GW1. They should be nailed for a few gameweeks, with some nice fixtures… thoughts?

Had a dream last night that Toney had quite a decent game vs Arsenal, but had a goal wrongly disallowed for a marginal offside & also got an assist for an own goal for a cross he drove across the box from the left that goes in off the defender

    Very weird

Had him in all my gazillion drafts until today. Gone off starting with any City assets which freed up cash to start Ings- and Bamford. Toney was always the lowrisk cheap starter
