Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 1?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers face a number of selection dilemmas as they put the finishing touches to their squads ahead of tonight’s 18:30 BST deadline, one of which, of course, concerns who to captain.

While one, all-too-familiar name leaps out as the leading candidate for the armband this week, there are other FPL assets whose cases deserve examining.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 1 captain poll, then analyse the leading candidates and Rate My Team (RMT) ratings ahead of this evening’s curtain-raiser in Brentford.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

As you can see from the current results, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is the runaway leader of the Gameweek 1 captain poll. The Egyptian midfielder has accumulated 61.95% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Only one other player has garnered more than 10% of votes at this stage, with Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) currently in second place, backed by 14.68% of users.

There is also a surprise inclusion, as Ivan Toney (£6.5m) occupies third place with 4.62% of votes, with Sadio Mané (£12.0m) and Kai Havertz (£8.5m) just behind the Brentford forward.

    Morning all. How about this for a big 4 Lukaku team a few weeks down the line? Would need 4 transfers from current team.

    Sanchez (4.0)
    TAA- Shaw - Coufal (Tsimikas- Amartey)
    Bruno - Salah - Barnes - Dallas- Benrahma
    Lukaku- Toney (4.5)

    Coufal could be 4.5 def and Benrahma could be Buendia.

    Any thoughts?

        I think it might be a nice idea to get ahead of the curve - Palace at home is probably a good game for him even if he only gets a half hour

      tsi amartey looks risky after gw3 or so. (I also have them both but trying work on that). other than that looks solid.
      maybe dallas-> smith could give more attacking returns though? I was a big dallas fan last year but not so in to him now that he wont gain all those cs points

        True, there are a lot of risks with the 4.0s and Dallas, but hopefully equivalents become clear. If Arsenal get another mid then esr not nailed as I understand it?

      They bought tsimikas because they were playing Milner at LB so why would klopp not play tsimikas

        Not sure your premise is the sole reason why he was bought - just helps the squad depth... he has even trusted Neco at LB at times over Tsimi, which is saying something

      I’d probably go for Ings instead of Watkins. I’m still unsure about Digne, maybe switch to a Chelsea defender although I realise Digne does have better fixtures, is nailed and should be on set pieces. Otherwise looks good.

    Cancelo + Jota + Alonso(Gw1 punt) + 1.5m ITB to upgrade mids to Son/Grealish and maybe even more $$ after eventual Alonso downgrade

    B)

    Tsimikas + Fernandes + Dier + 0m

    I think I prefer A, tbh. B obviously has Bruno but really stretches the team and leaves me with little room to manoeuvre in future weeks and a much poorer bench

      Mostly fixtures. Doesn't really make sense to buy them now unless FPL gave you 0.5 off each player during the poor fixtures.
