Football is back and we could hardly have asked for a better start from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective.

Goals were flying in all over the place, so I figured I’d start the week with a good stats dive into the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

WHICH PLAYERS CAUGHT THE EYE?

In terms of expected goal involvement (xGI), Michail Antonio (£7.5m) was the stand-out performer of the round with a 0.58 higher total than second-placed Christian Norgaard (£5.0m).

However, it is worth noting that Antonio’s non-penalty expected goals (non-pen xG) total was just 0.70, and as a result, he ranks eighth in that specific metric.

No player was afforded more big chances (three) than the Hammers’ frontman, but having missed his penalty he may no longer be the designated taker moving forward.

A popular target when the game launched, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.0m) ranks third for non-pen xG (0.94) and no player across all positions took more shots in the box than the Toffees’ striker in Gameweek 1 (five).

Only Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) created more chances than Paul Pogba‘s (£7.6m) five. However, just one of the Frenchman’s five attempted assists was a big chance created and he also fluffed a golden opportunity when put through on goal in the first half.

Adama Traore (£6.0m) really should have got on the scoresheet, too. The pacy winger took four shots in the box and was the biggest xG underperformer (0.81) of the Gameweek. He’s certainly one to monitor if he is going to be used in a similar role by Bruno Lage going forward.

Said Benrahma (6.0m) was a popular pick on the Fantasy Football Scout boards and the Algerian notched an xGI total of 0.51, which does not rank in the top 25 across all positions. He scored from his only shot on target, while the sole chance he created was converted, so he is one to monitor as well.

WHICH PLAYERS NUMBERS ARE CONCERNING?

That’s all for now! We will be delving deeper into this data and more on The FPL Wire tomorrow. All my custom stats tables used in the article can be accessed in the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, and I’ve linked them below for convenience:

I think he could.. his xGI was pretty high last season, unlucky not to get any goals or assists.

Yep coming into last season his attacking returns essentially matched Dallas exactly. oop helped Dallas of course but he overperformed XG almost as far as Ayling underperformed it.

Attacking side - wingbacks heavily involved - 5/6 tacking returns on the season a fairly modest expected outcome.

No, Robbo to replace him without wildcarding. Means Barnes to Benrahma and Greenwood to £5.5m (depending on Utd lineups).

That of course leaves you with just two Liverpool - could be okay of course but fixtures look good beyond mini fixture turn in 3/4.

Expensive in FTs - giving back everything you might gain? Likely to be other FTs needed in mid/atatck.

But comment was really directed at idea of saving move for WC. Unless you WC early you're stuck on 2 Liverpool and essentially need 2FTs to shift someone on who is now 3rd bench.

It's not an impossible idea and could work well. Simply pointing out possible drawbacks.

Two of them will fill in one position

How many here rush to buy Pogba and why?

I did to replace Gundo, for three reasons:

    1. Gundo injury
    2. Grealish presence F City system up
    3. Pogba playing for BIGGER contract and a streaky guy they say

Very happy with my team just wondering whether to stick or twist on ESR. 2 x tough fixtures the only reason I am considering selling him...

          Truthfully I'd hold

He looked very good against Brentford who conceded bucket loads of chances. Had either Auba or Laca been on the pitch the result would have been very different and ESR would likely have had at least one assist to his name. Not a spot I'd choose to use a FT on especially on the basis of one match.

That’s tricky. I was at that game and ESR was the best player on the pitch - but two very tough fixtures coming up and Amartey could easily cameo this week which makes him less of a starting option. I expect Mbeumo will outscore ESR over the next two games, but ESR has lovely fixtures after that and is probably the better long-term option if Arsenal don’t sign a new 10. I’d sit on it this week and give yourself more time/data rather than potentially wasting transfers on 5.5 mids

No, City will be close to full strength with about 9 attacking players for about 5 positions

      None are.

Vestegaard, Veltman, Semedo and Walker-Pieters (plus a CB) will come in for nearly all of them by next Gw

Thoughts on this guys? Went with Barnes as a bit of a punt in GW1 over a few other options, not sure whether to ride it out or try punting on someone else.

    A) Stick with Barnes and bank the FT for next week
    B) Barnes > Greenwood (0.1 short for Pogba, already own Fernandes)
    C) Barnes > Benrahma (already own Antonio)

Yeah said to myself I’d give him the first three games. Wasn’t bothered that he didn’t return against City but hoping he plays in that number 10 roll against weaker teams and on his day he’s got FPL pedigree. If not plenty of players to replace him at that price point.

        Read sometimes “grealish to …”
Why the hell you want to sell grealish?
8m city midfielder and perhaps the most nailed one with kdb struggling with injuries
I want to buy him this gw and norwich is awful. Can’t understand the logic.
        He is a real bargain.
Once he scores, we will see:
“… to grealish for -4 yes or no?”
