Football is back and we could hardly have asked for a better start from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective.

Goals were flying in all over the place, so I figured I’d start the week with a good stats dive into the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

WHICH PLAYERS CAUGHT THE EYE?

In terms of expected goal involvement (xGI), Michail Antonio (£7.5m) was the stand-out performer of the round with a 0.58 higher total than second-placed Christian Norgaard (£5.0m).

However, it is worth noting that Antonio’s non-penalty expected goals (non-pen xG) total was just 0.70, and as a result, he ranks eighth in that specific metric.

No player was afforded more big chances (three) than the Hammers’ frontman, but having missed his penalty he may no longer be the designated taker moving forward.

A popular target when the game launched, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.0m) ranks third for non-pen xG (0.94) and no player across all positions took more shots in the box than the Toffees’ striker in Gameweek 1 (five).

Only Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) created more chances than Paul Pogba‘s (£7.6m) five. However, just one of the Frenchman’s five attempted assists was a big chance created and he also fluffed a golden opportunity when put through on goal in the first half.

Adama Traore (£6.0m) really should have got on the scoresheet, too. The pacy winger took four shots in the box and was the biggest xG underperformer (0.81) of the Gameweek. He’s certainly one to monitor if he is going to be used in a similar role by Bruno Lage going forward.

Said Benrahma (6.0m) was a popular pick on the Fantasy Football Scout boards and the Algerian notched an xGI total of 0.51, which does not rank in the top 25 across all positions. He scored from his only shot on target, while the sole chance he created was converted, so he is one to monitor as well.

WHICH PLAYERS NUMBERS ARE CONCERNING?

That’s all for now! We will be delving deeper into this data and more on The FPL Wire tomorrow. All my custom stats tables used in the article can be accessed in the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, and I’ve linked them below for convenience:

The plan is to move mahrez to son and downgrade trent to a 5m defender, and possibly brownhill to benny for a -4,not sure about the brownhill move but mahrez/trent--->Son regullion is something I'm pretty set on.

I bench boosted but chickened out in the end and went with Digne Sanchez Lowton last minute instead of Alonso Scmeichel Amartey - would have been a fat 124 points!

Yeah, this one is painful because it was 2 minutes before deadline…..couldn’t quite handle the Alonso 120 minutes in the Super Cup and Vestergaard news

yeh. Well, Vestergaard wasn't going to start having had zero pre-season minutes and less than a week's training.

Yeh well as a Saints fan that was bs, it was simply to be an option as a backup on the bench. And had it been a comfortable lead against Wolves he wouldn't have been subbed on.

He only just returned at the beginning of last week from holidaying with Denmark teammate Thomas Delaney.

Would you hold Barnes? If a benrahma price rise means you can't do Mahrez + Barnes > son + benrahma next week?

That’s the only reason I’d make that move this week. Just keep a really good eye on the price rise.

I don't see the point personally, in the sense that by doing this trade you are then behind those that went the son & benrahma combination, to begin with.
If it were me, I would back what I had selected gw1. its 1 fixture...

But son is where i think real ground can be made, having him as captain for Watford, Barnes vs benrahma is a huge issue and there not as many points in that decision

he scores well and well, no one is trading for him with his next 2 fixtures.

All these people asking about what player to replace their Man City player with.
Surely when you were getting Man City players for gw1, the presence of Norwich(h) in gw2 played a big part?
It's as if they're getting rid of Man city players in the hope that a time machine will bring them back to before the Man City - Spurs game but with their new transfers.
      (*Exception being Gundogan if injured)

I've 3 Man City, Torres, Jesus and Grealish and probably only 1 will start but I got to stick with plan of hoping for big returns v Norwich. Coming on as sub for 20 min might prove fruitful.

Been thinking about Spurs and I can see both Dele and Lucas being great picks for the long term.

Against the bigger teams (like city) I think Dele will play that left side of a midfield three and while it might limit his attacking returns, theres good chances of assists to the front three on the break. We don't expect that many points against the big teams anyway. Against smaller teams however, I can see him being shifted into a number 10 position and getting beyond Son a lot. Becoming a flat track bully effectively.

Lucas I think is almost guaranteed his spot on the right of a front three, with or without Kane and so is phenomenal value at 6.5.

Hard to argue for them with the wealth of budget mids.

Mbuemo, Sarr, Raphinha most notable. And then you have the 7.5ms like Greenwood, Pogba, Jota, Barnes etc. Not to mention City mids like Grealish, Torres, Gundo (injured now)

Lucas looks bright at the start of every season, but his points totals tell you all you need to know. Just dumb to call him phenomenal value this early

I'd be wary of their further deals in the market firstly, they're already negotiation for a midfielder and whether Kane stays or goes that is a gap that you'd imagine will be filled

I cashed all my GW1 teams last season and didn't cash any of my GW2 teams. So I would say no but it's probably worth a team or two late.

Got to wait for Team news.

Jota may not start, though is always good for points from the bench. Barnes is an explosive player (based on owning last year), can be poor one week then bang in double digits the next.

Fodenfreude - the joy of seeing someone agonising over bringing in Foden (or any other Man City player other than Dias) and then seeing them sitting on the bench come gametime.

The lack of own research is quite impressive. But to put you out of your misery, Gundogan and Foden are injured. So not them.

Most likely going for Grealish. Norwich seemed all over the place against Liverpool. I think three goals conceded by Norwich is the minimum in this game.

For all those contemplating hits / big changes.

All i'd say is one week is a small sample, especially at the start of the season.
      - Willian got loads of points in GW1 last year
      - Son blanked then exploded
      - clean sheets come and go
      -etc etc

Every chance, Brentford and Watford get smashed this weekend, Leicester score 4 and Arsenal beat Chelsea. Stranger things have happened.

We picked a team for at least 2-3 weeks and I genuinely think it is better, and less stressful, to (barring injury news) sit and hold transfers and try and let the dust settle.

As someone burned by no Bruno, it was a rough start (still 99 points) and i'd love him v saints; but would have to rip up team and take at least a -4. I was happy to go without Bruno for first 3 and need to stick to that and see what happens.

I tactically didn't mention a failed 8 point bench boost haha. Though 91 points would still have been ok.

Plus late changes to remove Amartey and Schmeichel to Martinez and Trossard were a disaster.

I played hokey cokey with Son (in planned transfers to get united players in) last season and proceeded to miss multiple hauls. Never again.

Point being one week of a good player blanking or a bad player scoring, is not indication of how future game weeks will go.

I more mean seeing a highly owned played smash in a hatrick is a rough start having actively made the choice to go without.

Greenwood and Son (as opposed to Fernandes + cheap player) did me well but there is a definite itch to kneejerk and 'fix the problem' to get Fernandes at all costs.

Play one and bench order for other two, currently on BCA

      A) Alonso (ars)
      B) Gundogan (NOR)
      C) Tsimikas (BUR) - have TAA

That sounds about right, can't see Gundo coming on from the bench, he'll either be fit and start or he'll be out. Like Alonso v Arsenal mind but Tsimikas is probably a safer bet and Chilwell might play anyway
