Kostas Tsimikas (£4.1m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) produced double-digit Fantasy Premier League (FPL) hauls and Manchester City demolished Norwich City 5-0 on a busy Saturday of Premier League football. Let’s take a peek at the Gameweek 2 round-up!

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

Gameweek 2 Liverpool vs Burnley final score
Gameweek 2 Aston Villa vs Newcastle roundup

Leeds vs Everton Gameweek 2 roundup
Man-City vs Norwitch
Brighton vs Watford Week 2 roundup

KEY FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Alexander-Arnold made it 7.75 points per match in his last 12 appearances with a double-digit haul against Burnley. Tsimikas followed suit with an 11-point return but the presence of the fit-again Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) on the Liverpool bench does perhaps signal that the budget defender’s run in the side could be coming to an end.
  • Brentford and Liverpool are the only two sides with two Premier League clean sheets to their name so far this season. The Bees and Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday; the two sides’ defences have allowed a combined 56 shots so far this season but have only conceded one big chance apiece.
  • In the continued absence of Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.0m), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.1m) claimed responsibility for Everton’s spot-kick in the 2-2 draw with Leeds. A total of 34 shots were shared evenly between the two clubs at Elland Road.
  • It’s two goals from three shots for Danny Ings (£8.0m) this season. He is the only current FPL forward whose conversion rate was in excess of 20% in each of the previous two Premier League campaings. He looks to be second in line for penalties at Aston Villa, however, as Anwar El Ghazi (£6.0m) stepped up to take the Villans’ spot-kick on Saturday.
  • Pep Guardiola made five changes to his Manchester City starting XI, saying ahead of kick-off that he “wants to make everyone involved.” Ferran Torres (£7.0m) was again ‘out of position’ up top as Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) excelled in a right-wing role while two of the benched players, Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.0m), found the net – as did Jack Grealish (£8.0m).
  • Another £4.0m defender, Shane Duffy (£4.0m), rolled back the years with a goal from a Pascal Gross (£6.0m) corner in Brighton’s win over Watford. He has had seven headed efforts from set-play situations this season – three more than any other Premier League player.

INJURY WATCH

FPL Gameweek 2 round-up: Saturday goals, assists, bonus and injuries 5

As mentioned above, Robertson returned from a brief spell on the sidelines along with Jordan Henderson (£5.0m) and Thiago Alcantara (£5.5m).

Ashley Westwood (£5.5m) and Matej Vydra (£5.5m) missed out with a toe injury and a knock respectively, with James Milner (£5.0m) also absent because of a knock – all three players’ issues are thought to be minor in nature.

Kevin De Bruyne‘s (£12.0m) ankle problem kept him out of Manchester City’s win over Norwich, meanwhile.

Robin Koch (£4.5m) sat out Leeds’ draw with Everton because of a pelvic problem, while Rafael Benitez gave an update on Calvert-Lewin’s fitness after full-time:

He’s had a problem with his toe. He has not been doing full training sessions in the last 10 days. He is missing a little bit of the stamina to finish the games in the way he wants to finish them.

Leon Bailey (£6.5m) missed Villa’s win over Newcastle with a hamstring injury, with the Mapgies’ Isaac Hayden (£4.5m) aggravating a knee problem.

Minutes after scoring Brighton’s second goal, Neal Maupay (£6.5m) picked up a shoulder injury that led to his half-time withdrawal.

Graham Potter said of his striker:

Hopefully, it’s just a few days/weeks, that’s what we’re hoping for.

FPL OWNERSHIP AND CAPTAINCY – TOP 10k

While it’s still early days to be trusting the top 10,000 as a barometer of FPL performance, the figures are often a sight more useful than the overall ownership numbers when it comes to assessing active Fantasy managers.

Tsimikas is owned by more FPL managers than even Alexander-Arnold in the top 10k, with Salah and Fernandes – as is so often the case – the only two players whose ‘effective ownership’ is in excess of 100%.

Fernandes and Salah mopped up a combined 95% of the captaincy in the top 10k.

While the Egyptian blanked, there was joy for many of the armband differentials such as Mahrez, Ings, Alexander-Arnold and Grealish.

I know this has been asked before, my apologies.

Which of the 4.0 DEF is most nailed?

    Hoever, Livramento, Amartey?

Already have 3 Brighton, so Duffy is out.

Hoever - Wolves have a nice run of fixtures. It's my bench, but still, a little security around minutes is nice.

        Might swap Tsimi for Hoever.

Would be happy to keep Mahrez for Arsenal if I thought he started but I'm not confident at all. Thinking it'll be Jesus, Sterling and Grealish.

I'm in the same boat - and yesterday didn't help.

The lure of Son against Watford and 2FT might prove too strong though....

My strategy is to ditch Mahrez plus Ings in gw4 for a premium plus one.

Norwich game was frustrating but if you have him then hold as Arsenal can be soft

Yup, that's my strategy - probably downgrade Ings to Dennis, might play 352 with Bissouma as 5th mid.

I was worried about having no City players but my OR actually went up a few thousand. I wonder how long I can ride this train for?

On a seperate note it was nice to see some returns from my 5.5mil mid Gray. I think he could do really well in the budget category this season. Seems suited to Everton's style of play, has a goal in him every now and then, and with DCL to aim for should chip in with a few assists.

What's everyone else's thoughts on Gray? Anyone else see the same potential as me and took a chance early on??

Looks a good option for that price range. I'm still not sure if he's going to start every game though, but seems promising for now.

I'm holding ESR who looks like the only top player in that Arsenal team.

It would be an easy swap if prices stay matched and/or, I have the cash anyway.

I fancy ESR to outscore him over the course of the year, but I could make the swap if needed!

Shame i didnt go with Gray in the end, as I would be chirping a different tune haha

Didn't go for him myself but looked promising from the highlights I saw. Always thought he was decent at Leicester but was young and a bit wasteful and didn't get too many good runs as a result. Looked very direct yesterday which I think suits what Everton need. Will give it another week or two to decide whether to go for him or not, I did think his goal was a bit fortunate to find its way through and he'lldefinitely face better defences than Soton and Leeds. Would love DCL but don't think I can afford that road so Gray might be a really good option.

Sorry for the rookie question. Saved my trade to have two this week. Going to jump ship from Townsend to Gray as I think he's undroppable and I really want Everton coverage. Leaves me one FT. If I don't use it do I get two next week or not? Not sure how that whole situation works. Thanks guys

This season I’m implementing the rule of “no hits, only do transfers on Friday” for my team.

But early in the season like now, every 0.1m is like 0.5m. Anybody thinks it’s still worth to wait till Friday for this part of the season?

I was meaning to chicken out when I realized I had no City plus Veltman was out. But then I decided I was set up to BB with two keepers and all active players, so I just switched Veltman for Duffy and bit the bullet.

sweet as a nut bud, had a disappointing BB in GW myself but content with my decision....strongly feel that saving BB for DGW hinders your lineup particularly in second half of season (albeit my opinion doesn't go down well on here)

You might be in a bit of strife at the back.
Robbo could be back for Tsimi soon
Veltman ‘should’ get his place back
White is rumored to have covid.

Maybe Grealish down to a 7.5 and Tsimi to a reliable 4.5.

I think GB should win considering Smith Rowe is likely to be a 2 pointer.

Couple of takeaways from the games so far?

Eye test - Grealish seems to playing a wide role on the left. Not sure we are going to see that many goals from him.
DCL was a constant threat v Leeds.
    Raphinha is warming up nicely.

Agree on Raph. For a 6.5 mid his position and intent on the pitch is fun.

Think the set up today with Firpo and Dallas as wingbacks was pretty rad.

Need Lorente back - Cooper is all heart but a liability at this level.

I think it was significant that Cooper was dropped for the last ten games or so and we only conceded 6 goals. Lorente with Struik/Koch are the best fit imo.

    I understand GW5 is a question mark.

But is it safe to say Salah is out for both GW3+ GW4?

      No.
No reason to think he’s out for GW3 as far as I know. But they have Chelsea - and then if he misses GW4 that’s making some people think about shifting him out for 2 weeks.

Folks are saying the government will update the quarantine rules in a few days (24th maybe?). We’ll know more about potential issues.

Doing the ol’ in/out with him won’t be straight forward now that he’s 12.6 though.

        Thanks.
        Got my question all wrong.
So he’s missing GW4. And GW5 is a wait and see. Got it.

No, we don't know that anyone is missing anything yet. We don't have all the info.

This is a good point. All just educated guess work at this stage. And it could all be wrong.

The simplest, Occam's Razor, solution would be to hokey- cokey with Mane, who's helpfully dropped in price. I might do it with Jota.

          Hmmm. I have Jota already.
Am thinking genuinely about Salah > Son and then upgrading a defender with the change.
Just do without Salah for a bit - try it on for size.

But I’ll likely chicken out and play safe.

Not nailed, but I'd wait on any word from the manager.

No one is ever "nailed" under Potter, but I suspect it's his position to lose, if they play 3 CB's at the back....but who really knows.

Really frustrated with gundogan, only player I was in doubt whether to go or not. For city coverage and Norwich I selected but backfired with no returns and a price drop.

Same here, and now I am looking to get someone that has dropped in price, Chilwell, Sancho, Kane, Saka etc

Will Laporte keep his place or we'll see constant rotation from Pep?

    1. RogDog_jimmy

He’s started 6 defenders across the two games, bought a 7th off the bench and Stones isn’t involved yet.

I’d say he’s back into the rotation pretty quick this season.

Dias and Cancelo only two to start twice.

I'd say there's a real possibility Laporte has usurped Stones for now, but nothing Pep does surprises me.

As an outside observer, Dias seems as nailed as a defender could be in a Pep team?
