FPL Gameweek 2 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) opened his account for Chelsea and Mason Greenwood (£7.5m) scored his second goal of the season on a busy Sunday of Premier League football.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese returned a solitary Fantasy Premier League (FPL) point at Southampton.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS AND PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Paul Pogba (£7.6m) provided another assist, his fifth of the season, as he continued in an advanced role at St. Mary’s Stadium. In fact, no player on the pitch had more penalty area touches (9) than the Frenchman today.
  • Budget defender Tino Livramento (£4.0m) started again for Southampton, keeping Kyle Walker-Peters (£5.0m) on the bench. Encouragingly for his owners, Walker-Peters replaced left-back Romain Perraud (£5.0m) on 82 minutes, with the former Chelsea man seeing out the full 90 ahead of next week’s visit to Newcastle United.
  • Dele Alli (£6.5m) scored his first league goal in 17 months as Nuno Espirito Santo made a winning return to Molinuex. Surprisingly, it came from the penalty spot, having won it himself after being brought down by Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jose Sa (£5.0m). With Harry Kane (£12.4m) arriving off the bench in the second-half, it’s debatable exactly how important this development actually is, but it’s certainly something worth monitoring in the coming weeks.
  • It is now back-to-back clean sheets for Spurs, with Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) collected maximum bonus on both occasions. The Frenchman has already made 10 saves this season, a total no other goalkeeper can beat.
  • Despite two losses on the bounce for Wolves, today’s performance was encouraging, with Nelson Semedo (£5.0m) particularly lively in the final-third. However, his return to Bruno Lage’s starting XI meant that £4.0m option, Ki-Jana Hoever, dropped to the bench.
  • Reece James‘ (£5.5m) 18-point FPL haul was the biggest of his career to date, with Thomas Tuchel confirming after the match that the wing-back was fine after his collision with Nuno Taveres (£4.5m).
  • Lukaku marked his return to Chelsea with a goal after just 15 minutes and went to to register eight shots, with seven of those arriving in the box. Next up for the Belgian is Liverpool (a), Aston Villa (h) and Spurs (a).
  • Spurs and Chelsea joined Brentford and Liverpool as the only sides with two Premier League clean sheets to their name so far this season.

INJURY WATCH

Son Heung-min (£10.0m) left the pre-match warm up prematurely, but came out for the first-half as expected and featured for 72 minutes.

Having been asked after the game how he was, Nuno said:

“I’m sorry I cannot answer that. For now he’s alright. In the warm-up he had a strange feeling but he was ok to play. I don’t know. Let’s assess him. I didn’t realise. I’m sorry.”

Team-mate Cristian Romero (£5.0m) missed out on the matchday squad as a precaution with a minor knee injury suffered in the UEFA Europa Conference League defeat at Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night.

Ben White (£4.5m) was missing for Arsenal after testing positive for Covid, while during the match, Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) limped off on 65 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle issue.

At Chelsea, N’Golo Kante (£5.0m) and Hakim Ziyech (£7.4m) both came off the bench in the second-half after being injured in the UEFA Super Cup.

Any takers for Grealish to Greenwood?? Don't see many Grealish teams. Play was to get Son originally, but not sure that's a go now

Points spread at City a little bit of rotation maybe and nice fixtures for Greenwood, .5 saved and he looks pretty decent value atm

Time to correct my biggest GW1 draft error... Selling Targett before he drops in price.

Leaning towards Duffy. Only needs to survive until GW7 when I wildcard to hit the Chelsea fixture turn. Frees up £1m to reinvest elsewhere.

Also really like the look of Marcal at £4.5m. Wolves have decent fixtures and members will see his stats are very promising.

Any other suggestions? Not sold on Livramento for now, as I can't foresee a CS between now and GW6.

Samedo for Wolves looks great value from gw4 - Wolves look decent densively - only lost 1-0 to Leicester and Spurs.
Plus Samedo is assured of starts and is very attacking.

Alternative Coady the safe cheap wolves pick, or Regulion for Spurs for the next two

Please not Semedo, flatters to deceive, had him for a good portion of last season and he was terrible to own.

So what you are saying is Samedo is the Wolves defensive version of Traore? 😀
Wolves fixtures look great though. I will watch Wolves next game live and keep a close eye on Samedo. Tierney is my other alternative, if he and Arsenal have not given up all hope by the Norwich game gw4!

If it was me I would cash in on TAA - I said that to other posters. And others commented that you can't get rid of him. I pointed out he has Chelsea and Leeds in the next two.
I figure if you leave enough cash to get him back it is a viable tactic.

what would i do with that cash though? not interested in Lukaku, and easier ways to fund other moves - seems risky when i'd want TAA back straight away and nothing to say he can't get reasonable points against chelsea and leeds

No not worth a -8 just think of it logically all the players you get in have to score at least 9 points extra just for you to make a profit. You also have to hope Ings and Barnes do nothing v Brentford and Norwich - which is unlikely.

I got some good feedback yesterday, and originally I was thinking a mini WC -4 by doing:
    Mahrez + Barnes + Tsimikas >> Duffy + Benrahma + Son

But now with things looking less attractive towards Son and the likes of Greenwood/Jota turning heads, and lukaku back on the scene. and Duffy rising tonight if i need to shift Ayling to him to save funds, i just dunno what to do haha!

    Any advice welcome thanks guys.

ESR is one that stands out to me as a question mark.
He will likely drop in price after the Man City game and also that Norwegian fella Odegaard is going to take his nice n10 spot - so ESR will be shifted wide.
      Replacement Gray?

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Yeah ESR is a big concern for me even though he is a great player, just not for FPL. Gray is a nice replacement, or if i need teh funds then perhaps Bissouma depending on where i go with teh other transfers, it's just so hard to decide where to go with many options available, nice problem to have i guess.
Greenwood and Jota attract me but they're never guarenteed to start.

I was all set for keeping Tierney and ESR on my bench until the Norwich game gw4. But the rate they are going both could get double price drops by then. And in a team low on confidence.

            • 12 Years
            2 years, 7 months ago

Yeaht this is the problem isn't it, for when they do actually have a favourable fixture by the time that arrives price falls can happen, but even with that fixture liek you say, being low on confidence wil not help at all. Tierney looked ok before he went off today, but ESR which we both have is a concern, no doubt he may have to make way to maybe Bissoma before next GW if i have nothing else more pressing in preparation for 2ft's over IB if i go that way.

I will give you the number one name for that 5.5m and leave him in for the season is Westwood. If you watch the fpl points live he is always in the mix for bonus points, takes corners which basically means assists because it is Burnley. Plus he chips in with the odd goal or assist from open play.

    Whatsup Deadzoners!

    2fts (like most) and looking at problem areas to move on. Love some thoughts on options;
    a) Tsimikas (like most) to Livramento - after he goes up to 4.2
    b) White (MCI) to 4.5, thinking Dier (wat) - dropping to 4.4 soon
    c) Buendia (bre) to Raphinha (BUR) - await more Brazil news?
    d) Pickford (BHA) to any keeper 5.0 or below. Maybe Schmeichel

    right guys I'm getting sleepy

very torned between which one to get and stick with

Gut says jota but everyone says greenwood

    A- Greenwood
    or
    B- Jota

Jota, possibly a stronger long-term selection.
McCarthy should really have saved Greenwood's shot.

I'd personally rather have Jota, but here I am with Greenwood (no Liverpool spot for Jota atm).

Sure he's a rotation risk, but that's why he costs ~5 less than Mane or Salah.. It's not like Greenwood isn't a rotation risk too.

Greenwood better fixtures and you will note Greenwood was not subbed at 60 in the two games like Jota was. I think given the fact he is likely to play 90 and so versatile - Greenwood could be getting big scores soon.

True but thinking logically Greenwood seems to be Ole's favoured no9 now. Plus he always has the option of playing Pogba in Fred's position.
I think for the time being the United front three is fairly set

Greenwood flanked by Pogba and Sancho.

Marital did himself no favours today so it again pushes Greenwood up the pecking order.

            1. Gabbiadini

We've seen, he won't play Pogba in a midfield two.
A front four with Cavani, Sancho, Bruno & Pogba is not out of the equation.
Ole and other managers of the like, don't want to put great reliance on the shoulders of very young players.

Sound logical but till cavani plays Green has better fixtures and can be Jota when Cavani is back they same price

True, short term I agree with Greenwood.
I'm just unsure on what Ole will do with his lineups, he doesn't seem to always pick what is deemed "best".

I have 4 players on the chopping block with 2 FT & 0 ITB. Need to do something with the back line.

    Sanchez
    TAA - Shaw - Tsimikas*
    Salah - Bruno - Barnes - Gundo*
    Ings - Antonio - Toney

    Veltman* - White* - Brownfield - Foster

    A) Tsimikas + White

    B) White/Veltman > Dier/Sanchez

    C) Gundo + Tsimikas + White > Benrahma + James/Cresswell + Dier (-4)

          Maybe. I know.
It’s my 4th defender so if it’s a blank then so be it. I have Livramento fifth.

The 0.5 will come in handy. Veltman was my weak link and looks like he’ll drop before next gw so I wanted to move him while I could.

With Brighton’s fixtures I can see Duffy continuing to rise if he keeps his spot, so it’s a value play.

Yeah long term i hope so, looks a real good player just not sure what his path to fpl points is. Saints won’t get clean sheets and he doesn’t get forward a heap at the moment - though moving to RW today was promising.

Helps that me team is performing super well so I can make a marginal value move like this pretty comfortably.

        Nope would be 0.2 short

If I get DCL for Toney I would have 7.4 left for a replacement for Mahrez

Price changes far more frequent than start of last season. It's like 5 years ago. Good way to mess the template

Any thoughts on a potential transfer? 2 FTs

    Sanchez
    Rudiger Shaw Ayling
    Salah Bruno Greenwood Son Barnes
    Antonio Toney

    Steele - White Tsimikas Perica

I know the bench are all likely not playing next week, but I’m honestly okay keeping Tsimikas until my WC, because Rudiger, Shaw and Ayling/White is sufficient in future GWs. Only attackers I’d consider getting rid are Barnes and Toney, but they are playing Norwich and Villa respectively so seems a bit silly to ship them.

Only players I’m worried about not having are TAA, but I’m not bringing him in when they are playing Chelsea next week. Barnes, Antonio/Toney > Benhrama, Ings/DCL/Rich seems a bit sideways. Rudiger > James another shout but seems a bit reactionary and risky with the weak bench.

Sorry for the long post, mostly just talking to myself.
    Thanks in advance.

If quarantine rules don't change you won't have 11 in gw4 so I'd use it to buy someone who is gonna play
