Captain Poll

Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 3? Vote now

There’s still one more fixture of Gameweek 2 to come but our captain poll has launched for Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

You can cast your vote via the embedded poll below or on the widget of our home page.

Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) was the runaway winner in the Gameweek 1 and 2 polls but the Egyptian surely won’t have it all his own way this week, with the division’s meanest defence of the last seven months in town.

Chelsea have carried on where they left off in 2020/21, recording back-to-back clean sheets in their two matches of the current campaign so far.

Salah wasn’t allowed a single shot in the box when the two sides last met at Anfield in March.

And what of the Blues’ own assets? Liverpool’s high defensive line will be put to a severe test from the new Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m)-led Chelsea attack that racked up five big chances at Arsenal.

Manchester United’s insipid display at Southampton may slightly temper interest in their players, while Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t quite been the defensive horror show many of us were expecting with their new attack-minded boss in change.

Still, Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) will surely be among the front-runners given his stratospheric ownership and the Liverpool v Chelsea face-off on Merseyside.

Could it be a week for a captaincy differential, perhaps? West Ham United and Leicester City, who meet in east London on Monday night, enjoy favourable fixtures against Crystal Palace and Norwich City respectively.

As too do Tottenham Hotspur, who face Watford, although Son Heung-min‘s (£10.0m) fitness situation is obviously one to monitor based on Nuno Espirito Santo’s ambiguous post-Gameweek 2 comments.

And then there’s Manchester City, fresh from a 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City and set to face a beleagured Arsenal side likely to be without Ben White (£4.5m).

Our captain poll will be followed by Tom and Joe’s Tuesday video which discusses the runners and riders for armband duties in more detail, while Captain Sensible will be published on Friday.

Probably on here to air potential frustration but from a constructive point of view won't have much to offer until GW4 since plans are kind of set with that transfer.

I think Dier was the better buy. He's more nailed imo. Tanganga was poor against Wolves and has competition in Aurier and Doherty.

I'd rather bring in Cucho for Obafemi. Pref a playing 5M striker over another 4.0M benched defeneder which might not end up playing.

I am one of the players who after seeing lukaku perform yesterday hit the wildcard button. I dont really like to hold on to my wildcard and usually play it early on. This is my team so far...please let me know if you have any suggestions

If you just wildcarded because of how you saw him perform, it would be crazy not to get him. I can get him for free sacrificing Vardy, or for -4 sacrificing TAA but improving midfield at the same time. Very tempted myself. Yes, fixtures are bad, but he is a huge threat even against top opposition.

I agree but i thought maybe just avoiding the liverpool fixture. The reason I wildcarded was to have the ability to bring him in(the team I had previously meant I would have to shuffle around alot of players) so i think going just one game without him isnt a massive problem

As long as his price doesn't rise too much. I was going to do the same as you, but the ownership increase could make price rise too high and would require more tinkering, but without your wildcard. I may WC GW4 and try to shoehorn him in that way, but I think I'll have to compromise more due to this price issue.

Yeah true. I think if I do go for Vardy I will bring Lukaku as soon as Chelsea have played and I know hes not injured so I can avoid the price rise. I have a 0.4 m in the bank so it shouldnt be a massive problem.

Yes it was against arsenal but Lukaku has already had more shots, shots on target and big chances then bruno has in both games. Chelsea create alot of chances and I believe with a clinical striker at the end of it he will bring in more points

      I don't hate it.

Chelsea have Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City in their next 4.
United have Wolves, Newcastle, West Ham, Villa.

With that in mind I would imagine Bruno outscores Lukaku over the next 4 game weeks. Why not go with Bruno for 4 weeks then bring Lukaku in?

      1. unclesbasement
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

I explained my reasoning when replying to 'the units'. Essentially I think you will have to sacrifice either lukaku,TAA,bruno or salah as its very difficult to fit all. Therefore its a matter of who will outscore who. Trent is untouchable in my opinion as Liverpools defence is solid and he plays more like an attacker so gets valuable points for my defence. Salah is also very consistent even when liverpool arent. So its a toss up between bruno and lukaku. Of course its very early doors but the signs lukaku have shown is making me believe he will outscore bruno this season

Seems reasonable to me! Sorry I missed the other comments as I’d already typed my msg a good few mins before pressing send. I think being able to get Jota in can help the risk of binning Salah off for a bit, whereas if you rid of Bruno, there is more competition for Greenwood’s place. It’s a tough call. I got Lukaku in too.

Greenwood is more nailed on than jota. However that being said after doing a player comparison Jota does have a higher xg and has more 'big chances' . That being said i edge towards greenwood as uniteds fixtures are more favourable

Arsenal at home is a juicy fixture though........I would consider shipping Tsimikas (or White) first for Livramento and giving yourself 2 FTs for GW4

It's away but still it's a good fixture. But I'm not certain Mahrez starts tbh and there some good fixtures to target with Alli/Raph & DCL.

I have considered the 2nd option as well but it just seems a little boring when I don't really need a defender right as White will be available for GW4 onwards and fixtures are great.

Planned on sitting on Salah and Bruno for the entire season. Is that naive thinking?

Would the better option be having Salah / Lukaku (or enough to have Kane) so you can switch premiums in both positions?

Would mean Salah vs Bruno and Lukaku vs Kane most weeks though.

    1. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years
      2 years, 7 months ago

Salah and Bruno as season keepers? Perfectly sensible and I think is most people's intentions. But you can't fit all the big shots in, and as more come into play, something has to give.
You're proposing Lateriser's Upside Chasing tactic. I tried it last season - didn't really work well.

      1. FPL Theorist
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Most will not do this. If it is their intention now, they will find when they get to Lukaku's run from GW7-11 that they are full of FOMO and will change their plans to get Lukaku in. It's not really upside chasing. Getting Lukaku in when everyone else is doing the same is just playing the fixtures. If they got him in now, that would be upside chasing.

Yeah I'm finding it quite tricky - as I'm sure the most of us are.

@Andy it's like you say, something will need to give. I can't be chasing price rises, going for a good rank and getting all the hitters in whilst having a balanced squad.

Even though he has already risen 0.1, there isn't too much upside to Salah's price. So you can rotate him in and out over the season without losing much tv.

Lukaku I expect to get up to Kane/Bruno/Salah's price levels.

Update on this: Liverpool are willing to release Salah for the Gabon game, as Gabon is an amber-list country.

Egypt is red list, which would mean he would have to quarantine upon his return.

Gabon game - that's during the inty break - no issues here, right?

If quarantine rule was lifted, players would be allowed to travel.

My strategy is usually only 1 or 2 big hitters, but that team looks solid tbf. Pros with that team is you should be able to move around the 8.0 attacker and 5.5 mid depending on fixtures, and not use transfers on the big hitters. Not my way of playing but a good strategy.

In light of the recent evolution of the coronavirus pandemic, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to temporarily adapt the rules concerning the release of players during the upcoming September international window, which is to be played only by UEFA member associations.

The situation of the pandemic is rapidly evolving across the world and many national governments have again implemented travel and immigration restrictions due to a renewed increase in COVID-19 infections. Some of these measures directly impact international competition, such as mandatory periods of quarantine or self-isolation and travel restrictions.

As a result, in order to ensure that the well-being and health of all individuals involved in international competition is respected, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has, after consultation with UEFA, decided that the general rules which normally oblige clubs to release players for national team matches should not apply in the following instances:

there is a mandatory period of quarantine or self-isolation of at least five days upon arrival at:
the location of the club which has an obligation to release the player to an association team; or
    the location where a representative team match is scheduled to take place;
there is a travel restriction to or from either location (a. or b. above); and
    no specific exemption from the relevant authorities relating to the above decisions has been granted to players of a representative team;
Furthermore, all participants in matches during international windows must abide by the health and safety protocols established by the relevant competition organiser.

These temporary amendments to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players apply to the international windows from 31 August 2020 to 8 September 2020 (for men) and from 14 to 22 September 2020 (for women).

Saturday, to be precise. This is the ongoing situation.

    a) Ings > Lukaku (no hit)
    b) Toney, Shaw > Lukaku, Coady/Ayling (-4 hit)

Plan A was to hold Ings up until the Brentford game and do a simple transfer to Lukaku (no hit).
However there is no way in this world he isn't going to rise to 11.6 before then.

Plan B means I could keep Ings, 2 goals in a row is hard to ignore. However, that giant block of red fixtures isn't...

Have you got Tsimi? (and had him from the start?). If he nudges past another 0.1 rise, and he's close, that gain can offset a 0.1 increase for Lukaku and hopefully delay the transfer by one week.

I'm leaning Ings (c) atm, but Antonio and Barnes also decent options. Prefer Ant though

Is Raphinha a good buy with uncertainty over GW4/5?

He will start GW5 unless he catches Covid or gets injured. GW4 is against Pool so I'm not too worried hoping to bench him or I'll be fine with 1-2 pointer. I think he's a good buy or maybe you could with Alli next two and then get Raph from GW5.

    Is this worth a hit?

Tsimikas, Mahrez, Scarlett > Livra, Sarr, DCL

Why do you have to do Tsim > Livramento?

        Probably the DCL price rise

Get Adama Traore over Sarr if u wanna do it. At least he's getting into more goal scoring positions.

Mahrez is up against that circus from North London so I'd definitely hold for that
