FPL Gameweek 3 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) both scored on Sunday, while Chris Wood (£6.9m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) also found the back of the net to open their 2021/22 accounts.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese picked up a booking and returned just two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points at Molineux.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TALKING POINTS

  • Son produced his second double-digit haul of the season against Watford, as his first-half free-kick made it three wins from three for Tottenham Hotspur. The South Korean international has now scored 10 goals, supplied seven assists and picked up 20 FPL bonus points in his last 19 home matches.
  • Following their 1-0 win, Spurs are yet to concede a goal this season. However, they have given up 31 shots – only Burnley (42), Arsenal (39) and Leicester City (32) have allowed more.
  • Harry Kane (£12.3m) made his return to Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI, but produced just one FPL point as he missed a couple of late openings on his first Premier League appearance of the season.
  • Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m) made seven saves in Gameweek 3, compared to just one across the opening two matches. Moussa Sissoko (£4.5m) also made his Watford debut, and as a result, hands FPL managers another budget midfielder to consider.
  • Wood and Bamford both found the back of the net at Turf Moor, their first goals of 2021/22.
  • Following today’s win, Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League away matches (W18 D10), which is a new record for the longest unbeaten away run in English Football League history
  • Greenwood’s winner means that he has now scored three goals in as many games this season, and is three FPL points ahead of teammate Fernandes.
  • Paul Pogba (£7.7m) performed in a deeper midfield role at Molinuex today, which meant he only touched the ball once in Wolves’ penalty area and registered a single goal attempt.

Paul Pogba’s touch heatmap in Gameweeks 1+2 (left) and Gameweek 3 (right)

INJURY WATCH

Sean Dyche made just one change to his Burnley starting XI, with Ashley Westwood (£5.4m) recovering from a toe injury to replace Jack Cork (£4.5m) in the Clarets engine room.

Diego Llorente (£4.5m) returned from injury for Leeds United, but Junior Firpo (£4.9m) and Mateusz Klich (£5.5m) were both missing with Covid.

For Wolves, Willy Boly (£4.9m) and Daniel Podence (£5.5m) returned as substitutes, while Edinson Cavani (£8.5m) arrived off the bench for Manchester United on 53 minutes, having been granted additional leave time on the back of his Copa America exploits.

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 3

Following today’s matches, Wolves duo Adama Traoré (£6.0m) and Raúl Jiménez (£7.4m) both rank amongst the top five players for shots, with 12 each, over the opening three rounds.

The pair also feature amongst the division’s top chance creators, which does suggest that they could offer value from Gameweek 4 onwards, when their fixtures ease.

Traoré now trails only Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) for penalty area touches, with 27, a total he shares with Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

Is anyone thinking of losing Bruno with Ronaldo likely to take pens and free kicks?

Will be interesting to see what happens with Cavani as he was so good last season and won’t be happy playing 20 mins here and there. Ronaldo also isn’t going to want to be subbed.

12.5 like Kane. Why would he be cheaper? Better team etc.

I think he should be the same price as Kane - 12.5. That seems 'equal' when you bring it to PL.

Bruno looked poor today - but then did most of the team.

Likely that I will move off bruno for one of Ron/Lukaku at some point. have Salah and he will be season keeper

I'm thinking about this. One of the benefits of doing Tsim > Livra last week is it opens this door. And it's very hard for other teams that didn't have the 'luxury' transfer to chase you if Jota becomes essential.

Just been watching Ronaldo’s 100 goals for Juventus. Obviously a great finisher as we know, about 20 or so goals were penalties so that’s pretty massive factor. His ability in the air meanwhile is something else!

    Hallo! Suggestions welcome.
0.1 short of Ings > DCL, unfortunately.

    Bachmann
    Trent Shaw Tierney Livramento
    Mahrez Grealish Torres Jota ESR
    Kane

    Foster** | Wilson*, Ings, Ayling | 1FT. 0.1 ITB

    A) Wilson > Jiminez (Later: Mahrez + Ings > Odegaard + Lukaku)
    B) Mahrez > Odegaard (Later: Ings > Lukaku)
    C) Wilson + Mahrez > Odegaard + Lukaku (-4)
    D) Wilson + Mahrez > DCL + Gundog (-4)
    E) Wilson + Ings > Jiminez + Lukaku (-4)
    F) Wilson + Ings > DCL + Vardy (-4)

    Odegaard can be Demarai
    Lukaku can be Vardy/DCL

About to face Norwich and Burnley. Not that unreasonable to think that they turn it around.

But yeah, they're more of a hold than a buy for me with the combo of their awful form and nice fixtures.

        Could be Demarai...

Though 5.5 seems a steal for Ozilgaard. Can see Arsenal goals on the horizon with better fixtures and players coming back into the team over the next period. Can also be first sub for that price, since I'm going strong on the bench in case of covid interferences.

It’s tricky, but I think Traore edges it with being a nailed starter and their upcoming fixture run. He’s creating chances for fun and even a poor finisher will get goals if they keep getting opportunities. Gray seems slightly riskier but also a good shout it you can use the extra 0.5 well

2k rank. Pretty surreal. Trying my best to play my own game. WC activated yesterday as planned.

3 big hitters + Trent doesn't look good. Might just Salah + Ronaldo for better balance and possibly swap Ronaldo to Lukaku in GW7. Would captain so 11.5 seems like a lot, could easily Dee DCL matching.

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years
      2 years, 7 months ago

Congrats, insane rank. I've activated WC too, too many fires to put out and might as well plan for Ronaldo. Can't make up my mind what to do though, I have Lukaku so Antonio - Ronaldo - Lukaku is hard to not have but it's nearly impossible to do that with Salah and not drop Son and I really don't want to unless I want a team with no balance. It also means no TAA of course too which I can accept more easily but still am struggling with it.

Torres is on fire. Unfortunately any City player besides GK, Dias and Laporte will be up for rotation. KDB is becoming as fragile as glass, injury after injury. Torres and Jesus the attacking assets to have as far as I am concerned.

I'm open to suggestions. But I've got Jota, and don't like Traore or Sarr. Gray is alright but I'm buying DCL anyway and I'd prefer Raphinha over him. Pogba I'd consider if he nails down the attacking role - not interested if playing in the CM pivot.

Benrahma for me. I think fornals has hit a purple patch. Benrahma more the influencer for the team

Maybe but Benrahma is overperforming his xGI by +2.72, Fornals by +1.61. Fornals actually has the slightly better xGI / 90mins out of the two.

Both valid options of course. But I quite like that Fornals is flying under the radar, 0.3m cheaper and no one has him.

Best Barnes replacement, max 7.6m (already have Benny)

Thinking Jota, Sarr, or Torres. Jota would leave me 0.1 short for Ings>DCL

Could opt for Grey as Everton coverage

    Thoughts?

Great team that. I'd say you've got too much cash in defence, downgrade one of shaw/Digne/Reg (Digne for me) to free up £1m+. Then you could do Son - - > Torres and Ings - - > Lukaku

Hi all. Been away from fantasy besides being a dead team last two seasons. But getting back into it. Dier looking nailed under Santo? If so, direct set pieces and a route into Spurs solid defense looks like a must.

Aston Villa can confirm Emi Martínez and Emi Buendía have travelled to join up with the Argentina squad with the permission of the club in accordance with FIFA’s international match call-up rules.

Both players have agreed to make themselves available for Argentina’s vital first two World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Brazil but will not take part in the third international match against Bolivia.

These arrangements mean that Martínez and Buendía will only miss our Premier League match with Chelsea before being available for the visit of Everton to Villa Park on 18th September in order to comply with the UK’s Covid quarantine regulations.

Maybe I have to get Lukaku on WC after all.

Would honestly consider giving him the armband over Ronaldo (who might be subbed on), in those circumstances.

    Current team +2FT

    Sanchez - Meslier
    TAA - Shaw - Cash - Duffy - Amartey
    Jota - Benrahma - Bruno - Son - Mbeumo
    Antonio - DCL - Ings

Thanks for the previous advice. This is now my plan:

    GW4
    OUT: Cash, Mbeumo, Ings
    IN: Tierney, Neves, Bamford

    GW5
    OUT: Benrahma, Son
    IN: Tielemans, Grealish

    GW7:
    OUT: Duffy, Fernandes, DCL
    IN: James, Mount, Lukaku

    What do you think?

City’s best XI imo with everyone fit

    Ederson
    Walker Dias Laporte Cancelo
    KDB Rodri Grealish
    Jesus Ferran Foden

Ferran Torres at 7m could be unreal value. Gundogan can come into midfield and Sterling/Mahrez on the wing where as Ferran doesn’t have a clear back up

Really don’t get it why people use their valuable transfers to fifth defender (even If it means a 0.1 profit) when we have long IB and CR7 etc lurking…

Just rolling over 2 transfers for international break and banking .1 covers a price rise for DCL.

Team value has some importance in this game. Points over pounds, but .5 is the difference between Reguilon and Dier for example. During 35 game weeks it can and should cumulate certain amount of points. How many and how much tv is worth, is the question though. Every man and his dog would pay some points to have extra money if that was possible.

I agree that team value is important, but still see a better use for transfers during next few weeks (to max your points)
