FPL Gameweek 3 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) both scored on Sunday, while Chris Wood (£6.9m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) also found the back of the net to open their 2021/22 accounts.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese picked up a booking and returned just two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points at Molineux.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TALKING POINTS

  • Son produced his second double-digit haul of the season against Watford, as his first-half free-kick made it three wins from three for Tottenham Hotspur. The South Korean international has now scored 10 goals, supplied seven assists and picked up 20 FPL bonus points in his last 19 home matches.
  • Following their 1-0 win, Spurs are yet to concede a goal this season. However, they have given up 31 shots – only Burnley (42), Arsenal (39) and Leicester City (32) have allowed more.
  • Harry Kane (£12.3m) made his return to Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI, but produced just one FPL point as he missed a couple of late openings on his first Premier League appearance of the season.
  • Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m) made seven saves in Gameweek 3, compared to just one across the opening two matches. Moussa Sissoko (£4.5m) also made his Watford debut, and as a result, hands FPL managers another budget midfielder to consider.
  • Wood and Bamford both found the back of the net at Turf Moor, their first goals of 2021/22.
  • Following today’s win, Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League away matches (W18 D10), which is a new record for the longest unbeaten away run in English Football League history
  • Greenwood’s winner means that he has now scored three goals in as many games this season, and is three FPL points ahead of teammate Fernandes.
  • Paul Pogba (£7.7m) performed in a deeper midfield role at Molinuex today, which meant he only touched the ball once in Wolves’ penalty area and registered a single goal attempt.

Paul Pogba’s touch heatmap in Gameweeks 1+2 (left) and Gameweek 3 (right)

INJURY WATCH

Sean Dyche made just one change to his Burnley starting XI, with Ashley Westwood (£5.4m) recovering from a toe injury to replace Jack Cork (£4.5m) in the Clarets engine room.

Diego Llorente (£4.5m) returned from injury for Leeds United, but Junior Firpo (£4.9m) and Mateusz Klich (£5.5m) were both missing with Covid.

For Wolves, Willy Boly (£4.9m) and Daniel Podence (£5.5m) returned as substitutes, while Edinson Cavani (£8.5m) arrived off the bench for Manchester United on 53 minutes, having been granted additional leave time on the back of his Copa America exploits.

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 3

Following today’s matches, Wolves duo Adama Traoré (£6.0m) and Raúl Jiménez (£7.4m) both rank amongst the top five players for shots, with 12 each, over the opening three rounds.

The pair also feature amongst the division’s top chance creators, which does suggest that they could offer value from Gameweek 4 onwards, when their fixtures ease.

Traoré now trails only Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) for penalty area touches, with 27, a total he shares with Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

Greenwood continues to start as others come back to fitness? If so, where does he lineup with CR7 in the team?

Thinking Bruno to Greenwood to release funds for Kaku or CR7

It’s been great owning him but too much uncertainty, will keep for as long as possible but already have an exit strategy for him and probably wouldn’t bring him in now.

Thoughts here? Need to shift Barnes as a priority:

    Mendy - Foster
    TAA - Shaw - Dier - White - Ayling
    Salah - Greenwood - Barnes - Torres - Jota
    Ings - Antonio - Scarlett

2ft & 2.0itb - very happy so far, but have transfers to use.

    Ideas?

So far I'm thinking Barnes -> Traore

Wolves have played United, Leicester and Spurs and yet have only conceded 3 goals and have insane underlying stats in both attack and defence.

Usually its not a good idea to jump on players who havent actually returned at all yet but this fixture turn is too good to be true. Very tempted by Jimi in particular and if I were on WC Id probably go double Wolves.

He’s getting chances but looks a bit off it. Same with Traore. Getting plenty of opportunities but lack that bit of quality in front of goal. Goals look like they’ll be spread out too

If Traore had end product he'd be essential. He creates so much but the final pass/shot always seems to let him down a bit.

Could have easily had an assist or two against Utd though. He shredded them.

Going for Semedo on WC personally, Traore's goal record is beyond abysmal so not going near him, Trincao very talented but young and Jiminez, I'd like to fit him in but don't think I can, and maybe if I could I'd still wait until I see him bag his first goal this season before jumping.

    Thoughts? 2FT 2.5ITB

    Sanchez

Yeah fair call. But I’m very confident going DCL over Jimi if I had to chose 1

    Mane>Jota done

    Have funds for either
    Bruno or Greenwood/Ings>CR7/someone

Or I can choose to spend it else where. Going to drink as much as possible the next 10 days to decide

I'm definitely NOT constructing various WC teams to fit Ronaldo in, and definitely have NOT moved Bruno and Son to afford it, and definitely NOT taking a punt on Jiménez, and definitely NOT trying a Salah + budget mids scenario.

    It'll be fine.

Any reason not to pull the trigger on Ings / Barnes to DCL / Torres now before being priced out tonight?

Obviously IB is a risk but the upside is worth it IMO.

Do we say a player blanked when he gets bonus point/s, but has no attacking or defensive returns?

less than 4 is a blank imo

No, i don't think so. Blanked is you were on the pitch for at least 60 minutes and didn't do anything and got 2 points.

For me a blank is when your players don't return what you brought them in for.

Example: Pogba this week had 3 points, 2 for playing 60mins+ and 1 for his CS. I didn't bring him in for clean sheets though, so for me, he blanked. I have him for assists or goals.

Obviously this doesn't work the same way with defenders because you want your defenders to get assists/goals too.

I'm wildcarding this week to bring Ronaldo in, drop Salah to catch all the price rises and bring him back in after all the changes?

    1. Stupendous

      2 years, 7 months ago

Might even do the same tbh

Might even drop Bruno and Salah and then bring Salah back last minute too

Need Lukaku Salah Ronaldo for now, but might use the Salah money to make some cash first.

Salah to Gray then upgrade Balogun to Ronaldo probably

My changes are below. I wouldn't lose Bruno though because you'd lose 0.1M

Coufal to Alonso is a step too far isn't it?

    Wildcard temporary changes (waiting for CR7 to be added so we can go from there);

    Sanchez & GUAITA
    Shaw, Duffy, Coufal, DIGNE, TSIMIKAS
    Bruno, Pogba, Benrahma, SALAH, HARRISON
    Antonio, INGS, TONEY

    Sanchez, LLORIS
    Shaw, Duffy, Coufal, ALONSO, Tanganga
    Bruno, Pogba, Benrahama, TORRES, GRAY
    Antonio, LUKAKU, DCL

Leaves nothing in the bank. I can tinker until GW4 now?

WC tempting me- good start but i've historically left the WC too long. GW7 swing isn't too risky as I can do shaw to reece james.

Thoughts on this? Depends on Ronaldo being 12.5. If more, Torres would get downgraded

    Sanchez (Steele)

    TAA Shaw Dier (Duffy Livramento)

    Salah Jota Torres Benrahma (Gilmour)

    Ronaldo DCL Antonio

    Mini-League Leaders, Gameweek 3.

This is a report on the leaders of various Fantasy Football Scout FPL mini-leagues and community competitions after Gameweek 3.

    ** FFSCOUT OPEN FPL LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Scout mini-league ( https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/68048/standings/c, league code gsnskx) is open to all. The new leader is Prince Ugochukwu, who is number two in the world with 303 points after wildcarding in Gameweek 3. He has not yet played any of his other chips.

It is still the Best League in FPL, based on the average scores of the top five managers in each league, with Andy Mears’ youtube.com/letstalkfpl in second place. Our current top five are Prince Ugochukwu, Ryan Quinn, King Fardheen, Fortune Achonna and Foji 56, all of whom are ranked in the overall top 32.

    ** FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Members mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/361/standings/c) is also open to all, and Prince Ugochukwu is the new leader of this one too. The league code is visible in the widget on the FFS Home Page when signed in, and only those with a registered FFS account (paid or free) will be eligible for prizes.

    ** HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues are experiencing an unusual amount of teething problems this season, but it is hoped that it won’t be much longer before the 8,350+ teams can find out which Divisions in the nine Leagues they have been allocated to and who they have already faced in the first three Gameweeks.

    ** LAST MAN STANDING

See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/07/24/the-last-man-standing-competition-2021-2022/ for details of TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/26234/standings/c, league code 6dcode).
The highest scorers in Gameweek 3 were Prince Ugochukwu and Andrew White, who both scored 98. Andrew has had three top 10k finishes in the last five seasons and is 243rd in the FFS Career Hall of Fame, while Prince Ugochukwu’s best previous finish was 4,517th back in 2012/13.
The safety score looks like being 50 this week. Over 150 teams will be removed and about 2,640 teams will go through to Gameweek 4 of the competition, which remains open till Gameweek 22 - but new entrants must pass all the previous safety scores (Home - torresmagiclms.simplesite.com) to qualify.

    ** STRIKERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS

See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/08/27/strikers-keepers-losers-weepers-the-teams-they-are-aformin/ for the latest on this FFS Community team tournament organised by Boris Bodega and Greyhead. You have until 9th September to sign in if you hope to be recruited by one of the teams, but don’t leave it too late because they are filling up rapidly.

    ** TOPS AND VETS

Rakesh Parthiban is top of my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1378/standings/c, league code kgmryk) for a third week and has now risen to 93rd overall.

Paul Stow leads for a second week in my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1386/standings/c, league code 03t1fd), which is for teams with two or more top 10,000 finishes. He has risen to 142nd overall after Triple Captaining Heung-Min Son in Gameweek 3.

Paul also leads for a second week in PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/10031/standings/c, league code 01ef8y).

Finnegan Peakbagger leads for a second week in Jed Alexander’s Top 100 Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/194472/standings/c, league code pztxjt).

2009/10 FPL champion Jon Reeson (Westfield Irons) leads Simon March’s FPL Champions League (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/2594/standings/c) for a third week.

Owen Walker (Zan Keroski) is the new leader in Chaballer’s Hall of Fame Top 1k mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/39527/standings/c, league code 1zpaad). He is 165th in the FFS Career Hall of Fame.

Apart from one interloper who only started in 2013/14, the new leader in Skooldaze’s FPL Vets 2006 or before (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/25315/standings/c, league code hz9bz2) is Joakim Viheriä, who has had three top 10k finishes.

    ** MODS, CONS AND FAMILY

TorresMagic is the new leader in the FFS Mods & Cons mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/366/standings/c). Graeme Sumner (Gregor) and Mark Reynolds (MIR) are level with him on points but have each made an extra transfer. TM had seven top 10k finishes in his first ten seasons, two of them in the top thousand, and is 255th in the FFS Career Hall of Fame.

And finally, Adam Moustafa has joined Obay Eid (FPL_Milanista) in the lead in the FFS Family mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/342/standings/c).
