FPL Gameweek 3 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) both scored on Sunday, while Chris Wood (£6.9m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) also found the back of the net to open their 2021/22 accounts.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese picked up a booking and returned just two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points at Molineux.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TALKING POINTS

  • Son produced his second double-digit haul of the season against Watford, as his first-half free-kick made it three wins from three for Tottenham Hotspur. The South Korean international has now scored 10 goals, supplied seven assists and picked up 20 FPL bonus points in his last 19 home matches.
  • Following their 1-0 win, Spurs are yet to concede a goal this season. However, they have given up 31 shots – only Burnley (42), Arsenal (39) and Leicester City (32) have allowed more.
  • Harry Kane (£12.3m) made his return to Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI, but produced just one FPL point as he missed a couple of late openings on his first Premier League appearance of the season.
  • Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m) made seven saves in Gameweek 3, compared to just one across the opening two matches. Moussa Sissoko (£4.5m) also made his Watford debut, and as a result, hands FPL managers another budget midfielder to consider.
  • Wood and Bamford both found the back of the net at Turf Moor, their first goals of 2021/22.
  • Following today’s win, Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League away matches (W18 D10), which is a new record for the longest unbeaten away run in English Football League history
  • Greenwood’s winner means that he has now scored three goals in as many games this season, and is three FPL points ahead of teammate Fernandes.
  • Paul Pogba (£7.7m) performed in a deeper midfield role at Molinuex today, which meant he only touched the ball once in Wolves’ penalty area and registered a single goal attempt.

Paul Pogba’s touch heatmap in Gameweeks 1+2 (left) and Gameweek 3 (right)

INJURY WATCH

Sean Dyche made just one change to his Burnley starting XI, with Ashley Westwood (£5.4m) recovering from a toe injury to replace Jack Cork (£4.5m) in the Clarets engine room.

Diego Llorente (£4.5m) returned from injury for Leeds United, but Junior Firpo (£4.9m) and Mateusz Klich (£5.5m) were both missing with Covid.

For Wolves, Willy Boly (£4.9m) and Daniel Podence (£5.5m) returned as substitutes, while Edinson Cavani (£8.5m) arrived off the bench for Manchester United on 53 minutes, having been granted additional leave time on the back of his Copa America exploits.

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 3

Following today’s matches, Wolves duo Adama Traoré (£6.0m) and Raúl Jiménez (£7.4m) both rank amongst the top five players for shots, with 12 each, over the opening three rounds.

The pair also feature amongst the division’s top chance creators, which does suggest that they could offer value from Gameweek 4 onwards, when their fixtures ease.

Traoré now trails only Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) for penalty area touches, with 27, a total he shares with Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

Not many going for Gabriel Jesus on here it seems? What's the reasoning to avoid? Waiting for Ronaldo instead, or just Pep roulette mainly?
He's looked better than ever on the wing.

It's the roulette, especially with a plethora of nailed strikers for one of those three spots.

It's fraught, until we get a sense what team Pep will be playing in the UCL.

Foden and KDB back soon too.

Torres and Jesus might not play another minute in the PL...

It's a bit of a blind guess either way. If I had to put my money on it I'd guess he doesn't play from the start against Newcastle based on the fact he isn't arriving in the UK until after Portugal's last game (7 September - the Newcastle game is on 11 September) and the fact Ole has previously been a bit cautious with rushing new players into the team. Wouldn't be surprised if he did play from the start though so who knows.

With a long time to think before the next deadline what should I prioritize for this team?

    a. a new goalkeeper
    b. TAA (I have been quite lucky until now I think)
    c. Sarr/DCL or other midfielder/forward

    Sánchez
    Shaw, Alonso, Duffy
    Son, Salah, Fernandes, Mbeumo
    Ings, Antonio, Toney

    Steele, Tsimikas, Gilmour, Amartey
2 free transfers, 1.9 million in the bank

What was the original plan? Did it involved Ings GW1-3 then switch to DCL?

Generally your defence is in very poor shape with 3x4m defenders and no Trent. Ings and Toney could go - I'd be sizing up a wildcard going into GW4 with this myself.

      1. fc_skrald
        • 8 Years

Thanks! I am a sucker for Ings so no real long time plan from the beginning... With 2 free transfers I think the wildcard should wait - but a few injuries during the international matches could make me use it.

The money itb is very important. With it, you can go sideways to DCL and upgrade a dud defender, and still have money itb going forward.

Not necessarily. Palace next, as I say. There's always a good chance he clicks with Harry again - just needs a bit more time. I had a plan to sell him for Salah after the next gameweek, but it's open for now - I might keep him.

Is this looking good long term?

    Sanchez
    TAA Alonso Reguilón
    Salah Greenwood Torres Benrahma
    Lukaku Bamford Antonio

    Steele Duffy Coady Gilmour

Alonso may become James after his return from suspension.
Coady, with good run of potential clean sheets, will usually be first sub to cover the inevitable rotations of the Manchesters & Chelsea.

Just after some initial transfer thoughts. Which combo is best?

    A. CR7 + Raph/Traore/Sarr
    B. Lukaku Torres
    C. CR7 Toney

C would mean moving to 343, and could potentially make DCL easier to get in coming weeks.

I have a very similar looking team (Rudiger and Greenwood for TAA and Sarr).
Personally I’m not to pressed about DCL, looking more to get in ronaldo or Lukaku.

If you are set on DCL I’d look at downgrading Bruno to 4.5 and upgrading, your 4.5, but that would leave you with a lot of excess cash.

    Early thoughts and plans

I don’t feel great about committing too much over the international break. Feel like we’ll learn a lot in the first game or two back so a WC seems too early.

    Sanchez (4.0)
    TAA, Shaw, Duffy (Livramento, Ayling)
    Salah, Bruno, Greenwood, Jota, Benrahma
    Ings, Antonio (Perica)

    2ft, 0.5itb

    Thinking

    Ings > Pukki

Leave 2ft and 2.6itb to attack gw5 with extra info.

Jota has Leeds and there’s a good chance Firmino is injured and out … no way am I moving him out.

DCL move might end up getting undone to bring in Lukaku/Ronaldo/Kane almost immediately. That’s what I’m waiting to figure out I guess.

Standing back and surveying the scene makes good sense at this time. Duffy starting while Ayling rides ot Liverpool works too. Overall, I'd say the squad has a short lifespan - it might be good to WC in a week or two when new and returning players have bedded in. Maybe you can hold on to GW7.
I don't think Pukki has much merit to him, but I haven't been watching him - has he played? If the priority is to build up funds, I might lose one of the premium midfielders for Torres if it's just for the short term.

      1. RogDog_jimmy

It’s more about moving Ings to someone who has good fixtures - but I don’t feel great about any of the forwards.
I was hoping Bamford would convince me but he didn’t. Maybe DCL is the right move and I shouldn’t be too tricky.

With the midfield 5 I can’t convince myself to sell any of them just yet - Liverpool and Man U fixtures are amazing. And Bennie is great value also with good fixtures.

The defense worries me the most.

There’s a good case to make aggressive moves the next 2 weeks assuming a WC - but I think I’ll try keep the option of a late WC open as long as I can. Already OR 17,500 so feel like I don’t need to be too ambitious right now.

Yeah, that's sound. Ings could go to a few alternatives. I lost him on a WC this week and brought in DCL and Vardy with the intention to sell both for CR7 and Lukaku when the time is right (I have the money). Vardy and Bamford have very nice fixtures going forward (EXCEPT next GW!) and DCL for a while, so they are good for 'breathing space'.

No. Your team is great. Great fixtures and in form players.

You could do Ings to a 4.5 and bank some money for a big move the next week - or do that and upgrade someone else.

Barnes is tough - I’m glad I don’t have that headache.

But yeah some minor surgery could get you a good team. Long season ahead

Surely utd won't stop short of strengthening their most blatant weakness given how much money they have already thrown at the wall over last few years. Niguez or Neves would be more important than any other buy so far. May as well go all out now

Get both and then they can rotate good and proper.

Neves would be perfect for our set up and could transform us into title contenders imo!

On paper there would be no excuse not be winning silverware. I'm not convinced Ole is the man for the task though but we'd find out for sure

Innit. Was way more important than Sancho and Ronaldo

Looked pretty close to on target from what I saw. Probably on line to hit the inside of the post but also pretty hard to tell.

    Sanchez
    Shaw • Coufal • White
    Salah • Bruno • Pogba • Son
    Antonio • Ings • Toney

    Steele • Gilmour • Duffy • Tsimikas

    2FTs, 0ITB

Best way to elaborate Ings => DCL as 0.2 short?

    A. Toney => Armstrong
    B. Coufal => Tanganga
    C. Other?

    1. RogDog_jimmy

      A of those.
Though Southampton fixtures get a little rough soon I think.

      Probably Pogba out though.
We saw today he’s likely to drop deep now Sancho is starting - that likely won’t change with Cavani and Ronaldo in the mix.

      Maybe
      Pogba > Torres
      Ings > DCL

Sancho looks so bad. I knew he was overrated af. Flop of the season for sure.

He's 21 and in a new team in a new league. Give him a year before you judge.
The problem is the massive fee

he just got his first start, didnt he?

I do think that he wont provide much more than likes of Rashford/Greenwood but too early to say that he is a flop.

So many set of Bruno+Ings > Torres+CR7 -4. But ask yourself, does ronaldo really outscore Bruno with a 4 point head start? It’s really not that easy. Personally am going Ings > DCL and staying away from CR7 until I WC

CR7 easliy beats Bruno by 4 points in the next 3-4 gameweeks

Torres is a trap as well, kdb and foden are back soon to join in the roulette.

Time for weekly round up of Top 10K Finally League hivemind league

Classic more than one way to skin a cat week. Player of the week was Enigma who got 87 after a minus 4 and was West Ham free - catapulted from abyss to competitive ranking.

FPL Flair and Andy Social both had decent weeks to continue top 1K form and Grealicious FC (unclaimed) and My Heart Goes Salalalah's Sweet Suppositories are now both in and around top 10K.

Had a few WCs played and imagine there will be plenty more this time around.

Cheers, Pingi. If you're talking of a hivemind, it's worth noting that my squad is only 43% template!

        Yeah spotted that

Also went WC on a fairly similar set up for a 37% template rating. Decided to lose Vardy at last minute to roll this week. One of those vaguely irritating ones for me as I plumped for the wrong 4th mid when all my other options returned, Could have been worse - my original team certainly was 🙂

Imagine the original template will blast apart this week.

Will there be a mid-season break where only half the teams play for 2GWs like last year?
