FPL Gameweek 3 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) both scored on Sunday, while Chris Wood (£6.9m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) also found the back of the net to open their 2021/22 accounts.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese picked up a booking and returned just two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points at Molineux.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TALKING POINTS

  • Son produced his second double-digit haul of the season against Watford, as his first-half free-kick made it three wins from three for Tottenham Hotspur. The South Korean international has now scored 10 goals, supplied seven assists and picked up 20 FPL bonus points in his last 19 home matches.
  • Following their 1-0 win, Spurs are yet to concede a goal this season. However, they have given up 31 shots – only Burnley (42), Arsenal (39) and Leicester City (32) have allowed more.
  • Harry Kane (£12.3m) made his return to Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI, but produced just one FPL point as he missed a couple of late openings on his first Premier League appearance of the season.
  • Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m) made seven saves in Gameweek 3, compared to just one across the opening two matches. Moussa Sissoko (£4.5m) also made his Watford debut, and as a result, hands FPL managers another budget midfielder to consider.
  • Wood and Bamford both found the back of the net at Turf Moor, their first goals of 2021/22.
  • Following today’s win, Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League away matches (W18 D10), which is a new record for the longest unbeaten away run in English Football League history
  • Greenwood’s winner means that he has now scored three goals in as many games this season, and is three FPL points ahead of teammate Fernandes.
  • Paul Pogba (£7.7m) performed in a deeper midfield role at Molinuex today, which meant he only touched the ball once in Wolves’ penalty area and registered a single goal attempt.

Paul Pogba’s touch heatmap in Gameweeks 1+2 (left) and Gameweek 3 (right)

INJURY WATCH

Sean Dyche made just one change to his Burnley starting XI, with Ashley Westwood (£5.4m) recovering from a toe injury to replace Jack Cork (£4.5m) in the Clarets engine room.

Diego Llorente (£4.5m) returned from injury for Leeds United, but Junior Firpo (£4.9m) and Mateusz Klich (£5.5m) were both missing with Covid.

For Wolves, Willy Boly (£4.9m) and Daniel Podence (£5.5m) returned as substitutes, while Edinson Cavani (£8.5m) arrived off the bench for Manchester United on 53 minutes, having been granted additional leave time on the back of his Copa America exploits.

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 3

Following today’s matches, Wolves duo Adama Traoré (£6.0m) and Raúl Jiménez (£7.4m) both rank amongst the top five players for shots, with 12 each, over the opening three rounds.

The pair also feature amongst the division’s top chance creators, which does suggest that they could offer value from Gameweek 4 onwards, when their fixtures ease.

Traoré now trails only Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) for penalty area touches, with 27, a total he shares with Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

I've made my transfers early with a view to a GW5 wildcard if I have a bad week - with Ron, Raph, Bam, Jimenez, Traore, Podence, Arsenal/Watford on the 'watchlist' - could be a good week to do it - with routes to Chelsea built in

I have Grealish in there. Think a GW7 WC would have some city. So got myself covered there. Might throw in a City defender too.

A bit weird with haven't heard about the government answer to FIFA's letter about the IB ?

Where do we stand at the moment? Some clubs will release players (AVL released Buendia and MArtinez this GW so they will have to quarantine for 10 days on return), some clubs won't allow players to leave. Do they risk sanctions then? I heard FIFA will give them a 5 days penalty ?

About Antonio, has he even been called up by Jamaica?

    Hi lads,

have a question re points scoring per month.

In the rules it says this (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/help/rules):
"Any transfer point deductions in the Gameweek before a phase starts won't be deducted from the phase score. For example, any transfers made in Gameweek 3 (preparing for Gameweek 4) won't be deducted from your September score."

For example, does it mean that if -8 is taken now after GW3 is done, would that then be taken from points accumulated in GW3 (August)?
    Or nothing will happen?

    Not clear.

    Cheers

It will not be taken from either month.

I've used that little anomaly to nice effect in my works monthly league. Basically, you can transfer till your heart's content before the first GW of a phase and you won't get any hits for that phase.

    4. Rassi
      • 9 Years

In my ML there is always a manager or two who don't care about their OR. They just concentrate on trying to win monthly prizes and that means taking massive hits before each month's first round.

      Cheers!

So basically, player can set himself (herself) for the month taking as many hits they want in the GW prior the beginning of the new phase (new month).
No points will be deducted from either of the phases.

      Nice loophole.

The definition of 'pointless' is not preparing Ronaldo WC teams without knowing his price, it's preparing Ronaldo WC teams without knowing his price AND asking people for their input.

Chillax people and wait for him to be added so you know for sure whether your 4th midfielder needs to be 5.5 or 6.0!

Anyone who leaves 13mil is on a sound footing. I personally thin k he'll be 12.5 though.

Then it's just a case of upgrading a 4.5 to a 5.0 or something like that if he comes in at 12.5 (not 13.0).

I wouldn't say it's pointless at all. He'll be added in a few days for sure

That's my point. Asking for opinions on a team with Brownhill vs Allan. When in reality you might have some 5.0 hack instead.
Thereby making said previous 'opinion shopping' irrelevant.

Oh well, to each their own I guess.

      As I mentioned earlier, I think he'll be 13m.

This will prevent people from doing a straight swap with Bruno/Salah as it will require a further downgrade elsewhere and force people to think twice.

Regardless of this, many will WC purely to get Ronaldo and build their team around him with minimal consideration as to the effect this has on the rest of the squad.

Article imminent no doubt, but we’re expecting Ronaldo to have a massive effect on United assets; displacing Greenwood and taking set pieces off Bruno. Will he be the United asset to have? Will surely come down to price and position. Hopefully mid and under 10.

I don’t think Greenwood will lose his place at the moment. He will continue on the right with Sancho on the left. I don’t think it’s guaranteed Ronaldo starts against Newcastle either - if we’re keeping Cavani behind and stopping him going to South America he’s not going to be happy if he’s sat in the bench for Newcastle

With WC your are creating new squad and even if injuries or suspensions happen then you can work around it.
With FT's should something go wrong you will need to either take hits or use WC only to fix self inflicted issues.

Just need to assess what is going on around me. I have 2 free transfers so can jump on the Ronaldo hype train if I want to, but for some reason I'm not feeling it. I don't want to get left behind out of ignorance though.

Could DCL and Bruno outscore Ronaldo and whichever 8 and under you punt on?

The thing is, If Bruno blanks again and has another nothing performance against Newcastle he is going for me regardless. So it's tempting to replace him with Ronaldo but I'm a conservative manager so it's against my nature. Torn

Thinking of just having Ronaldo as a season keeper and a sole premium forward, and having a Salah & Son premium midfield. I just see too much value in Jimi/Wilson/Antonio to restrict myself to only owning one. Maybe by week 7 if Spurs still look complacent with 1-0 wins then I'll reconsider Son, but to have a midfield of say Salah Son Leeds mid Jota and attack of CR7 and 2 of the forwards I mentioned sounds optimal, whilst still having attacking defenders.

that's exactly my WC plan at the moment.

It's just that im absolutely torn between selecting 2 of:

        DCL
        Bamf
        Jimi
        Wilson
        Antonio

Who would you go to if money isnt an issue?

I’ve a little bit of doubt with Jimenez. He used to be so physical and i just didn’t see any of that vs Man U. Just seemed to drift through the game on the periphery.

I think Jimi worth having over DCL due to the extra funds you'd have. H2H I can't really split them but the extra funds Jimi affords you is very handy to have imo

DCL safer in the short term, with a view to switching to Bamford or Jimmy in GW7 I think.

Solskjaer been very bad at suiting the newbies into his system and style of play, shame to kill a talent like VDB, the same scenario with Sancho is pending imo.
CR7 is not the newbie, but i wouldn't buy him at this rate and form the ManU are in.
Why on earth is he still managing the team, what is the sacking job made for?

      What a load of nonsense!

VDB just hasn’t proven himself. He has been so so passive during any game he has played. Ole is right to not have played him.

Sancho many are expecting to take time. Same thing happened with Havertz coming from Bundesliga.

CR7 is different gravy. No question he will hit the ground running wherever he goes.

There is clear progression under Ole. He has moved the team from QFs in 2019, to SFs in 2020, to finals in 2021. Next step is winning the finals. He has also just signed one of the best CBs in the world, the greatest goalscorer ever and one of the most promising talents on football. There is literally nothing to indicate he should be sacked.

We'll see how long that unbeaten record lasts now fans are back

Ole has done a decent to good job, that shouldn't invoke blind Gary Neville level backing of him. The amount that has been spent is eye watering, 4th and no trophy is not a success

Don't forget van gaal and Mourinho actually won stuff and were sacked

No and you don't have to be absolutely awful to be sacked, it's Manchester United, doing well enough or an okay job shouldn't be enough

Never said you thought he was SAF, whereas you definitely are responding as if we're all saying he's dog turd, again thinking he could easily have been replaced with a Conte doesn't mean Ole has been awful, he's done a decent to good job but nothing more than that

I’m not a United fan. So I’m judging Ole’s performance in terms of how entertaining Man U are, and how competitive they are. Ole is doing better than decent on that score. He’s also gelling some very difficult personalities while moving some other players out. Mourinho clearly couldnt manage this.

There’s a handful of great teams all competing for trophies, it takes a lot of luck to win one. From what I’ve seen Ole does seem to have a bit of luck so who knows, let’s see what he does.

I’m not saying he’s the next Alex Ferguson but because he isn’t this media personality, he gets unfairly criticised IMO. United have tried Mourinho, Van Gaal, Moyes. It’s a joke he doesn’t get more respect for the job he’s doing.

Not a big fan of the Ron Rom double up, even on WC

            - Trent form and fixtures too good to drop
            - So many good mids in 6.5 - 8.0 range
            - DCL and Antonio provide great value in striker slots

Given the fixtures, switching between the 2 feels much better

Same for me. I'm not going anywhere near 3 premiums until I've built a nice squad value first.

I've seen some drafts with 3 premiums and there's just too much lost elsewhere in the team for me to think it's worth it

I think I’m with you on that one.

A team where you can switch between Salah/KDB/Fernandes for your premium mid spot and Ronaldo/Kane/Lukaku for your premium striker spot should always allow for an excellent captain option.

The two premium option allows for a Trent/Robertson double up.

With Cancelo seemingly favoured on the left now, and Mendy locked up, does Walker become a decent option at 5.5 with Zinchenko the only remaining fullback?

I think most people called it here with Lukaku. It seems pretty obvious he will be a 12.5 forward. 12m would be nice but it makes more sense to make him the same as Kane and Salah than it does Bruno and KDB

                    1) bundesliga quality is very low and mainly attack focussed leaving plenty of gaps every game, fun product but not like the premier league at all
                    2) when have man utd ever played well against a team that sits back and counters? Ole doesn't have that plan, it's either individual brilliance or try to counter
                    3) people forget how young he is, greenwood is actually ahead of him in development even if Sancho has played in the champions League and done well

I think this is a case of people seeing his stats for a top 4 German side and thinking that the same thing would translate in the Prem immediately.

I know everyone was annoyed with Kane’s performance but surely hold vs Palace then reassess? Or do I go to Lukaku (c) vs AST ?

Depends on what you do in gw5 and gw6. If you plan on holding Lukaku then definitely go for it. Lukaku looks like a brilliant captaincy option next game week.

I brought in Son on my WC and got those jammy double-points from him, but I won't keep him. I see too many 1-0s on the horizon to feel either Son or Kane are worth having.

I've been trying to find a proper mid option from Adama, Sarr, Torres, Gray, Benrahma and probably can resist the Adama temptation.

Watching Wolves been fun recent weeks and they have to finally find the end product.

Thoughts? Is there much between the mids listed above?

Benrahma and Gray are in form but Traore has looked good in bad fixtures and is set to now move into good ones.

Traore could be worth the gamble. Maybe Trincao is also an option though. Close to scoring twice against United and somebody said he is also on corners (can't say I noticed that).

Personally, I'm hoping Ronaldo is an absolutely ridiculous price and hundreds of thousands of managers absolutely butcher their teams to the core to accommodate him. I know he's taken bloody good care of himself but I just cannot believe that someone who is 37 this winter will still be able to rip it up in the Premier league. He'll also start picking up those little niggles that become more frequent as you get older which will only guarantee some very expensive benches for a lot of people this season.

Yes. And Wayne Rooney became old much younger than Zlatan. Kane seems to have lost pace, but on the other hand he has been able to improve his passing and creativity. Before last season people thought that he had peaked already. Cavani and CR are the opposite of Willian who liked expecting a baby. Roger Milla was pretty old in top level. People have different genes and life styles.

Ronaldo scored 29 goals in 33 games in Juve assisted by players far worse than Bruno, Sancho, Pogba and Shaw.

He will score a ton of goals. And he will be worth the 12.5m or 13m.

Hardly needs teams to be 'butchered' to get him in. Even at £13m it just takes two transfers.

Money isn't and issue and you're on WC.

                  Pick 2 (reasons appreciated)

                  Bamford
                  Antonio
                  DCL

                      DCL and Antonio top 2

But Bamford also a good option with their fixtures

Jim has great fixtures but it hasn't worked yet

Wilson just gets points so he's also a good option

                        Thanks.

was on DCL and Antonio pre wildcard.

I trust DCL too much, thinking of going Bamford instead of Antonio, who im anticipating might get managed minutes once EL starts, and given they got Vlasic. (almost)

Jimi can always be an option, but he needs to start scoring.

                        Wilson is the enigma.....

Arsenal are in all sorts of bother yeh, but I don't see Spuds coming away with jammy 1-0s every week. Just like Wolves won't lose 0-1 every week - both those sides are going to revert to the norm.

                      Current team:

                      Bachmann (Foster)
                      TAA, Shaw, Amartey (White, Livramento)
Salah (C), Jota, Greenwood, Benrahma (Dallas)
                      DCL, Antonio (VC), Vardy

                      0.8 ITB, 1 FT.

WC in GW4 (I'd be making about 6 changes), or keep as is, or do 1FT to upgrade White?

That team looks way strong enough to not WC. Vardy + Dallas > Fodder + Ronaldo/Lukaku -4 seems fine.

Cheers. If I do a -4, I give up my 5 point lead in my mini league, and I'd be just one point ahead. I am tempted to do it anyway as Vardy isn't going to earn me much against City, but still a bit concerned about dropping those points. I may save FT then try to upgrade the following week with 2FT, even if Lukaku's price rises a little.

He's still young so the odd rotation here and there but as it stands he will be on the right for sure, when rashford returns too. Sancho will not be 100% nailed and will be slowly introduced to the team
