International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who will miss Gameweek 4?

The first international break of the season got underway today, with not far off 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Some national sides are cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their nations’ respective matches.

Others won’t be featuring at all, with the Premier League clubs digging their heels in and (mostly) refusing to release players for national team duty if they are representing, or playing a match in, a country on the UK government’s red list.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Raphinha (£6.5m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Richarlison (£7.6m) look set to have the fortnight off and – as it stands – be available for Gameweek 4, then, although the threat of five-day sanctions beyond the international window for Brazil players still hangs in the air at present.

Who Will Miss Out in Gameweek 4?

Toney off the mark as injuries and Covid impact Villa 3

Anyone travelling to a red-list country faces quarantine for 10 full days in a managed hotel on their return to the UK, and Premier League players are no exception.

As far as we’re aware, there are only five such FPL assets who fall into this category in the September international break.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m), Emiliano Buendia (£6.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£4.5m), Giovani Lo Celso (£5.9m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) have been given permission by their clubs to head to South America and all of them will miss Gameweek 4 as a result.

The quintet are available for their countries’ first two World Cup qualifying matches but will not take part in the third international match – meaning that their quarantine periods will have ended by the time Gameweek 5 comes around.

OTHER PLAYERS WHOSE COUNTRIES FACE RED-LIST NATIONS

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 3?

You may notice some players in the club-by-club list below whose names we originally listed as being at risk of missing Gameweek 4 if they went away on international duty.

There is a compromise of sorts for these FPL assets: they are being allowed to represent their countries but in only the fixtures not staged in a red-list nation.

For example, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is being allowed to turn out for Jamaica in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at home to Panama on Sunday.

But Antonio will miss the Reggae Boyz’ other two games, away at Mexico and Costa Rica, as both of those countries are on the UK’s red list for international travel.

As a result, and barring injury or illness, he’ll be allowed to play in Gameweek 4 for West Ham.

Perhaps the most overrated FPL players:
Digne and Traore. Neither ever justify their hype and are massively overrated on here. Both look the part but never put up FPL points. Still, many on here continue to choose them.

100% and although he hasn't been around as long you can add Semedo for mine, weird seeing him and Traore in so many teams/transfer plans regardless of kind fixtures or stats.

I don't think Digne is overrated as such. He's put up more assists in 3 seasons in the PL than Luke Shaw has in his entire career and Shaw is in almost 50% of teams in the game. The problem with Digne is he's just such a troll to own. Whenever I have him he does nothing then I sell and he hauls.

Traore is an overrated player in general. His end product is among some of the worst I've ever seen of any player evidenced by the fact his underlying stats so far this season are absolutely brilliant and yet he has nothing to show for it.

I think that probably says enough for the FPL community regarding Shaw too, had a great Euros of course but the way people acted you'd think he was bound to break KDB/Henry's assist record this season. Digne's hauls are so hard to predict but as you say he's just a troll, and for the money I don't think it's worth holding and playing all season to try get the good after having to take the bad. Like others I tried to put people off Traore pointing out his 7 goals in 145 or so appearances, maybe he'll prove us wrong but I can't see it.

Totally agree on Traore! He’s so exciting to watch, but his end product is just terrible! A bit like Aaron Lennon in the past.

If I go anyone from Wolves it would be Jimi, but the whole team still haven’t scored a goal so won’t be jumping on that straight away.

Don't lump Digne in with Traore! Traore is the tallest of trolls, spending 8 hours a day practicing dribbling so he can get to goal and launch the ball to the crowd.

4 ppm for 5.5 is respectable and on par with other players for Digne. Keane and Pickford bring down his points but that isn't the argument, I know.

Ronaldo got a yellow and 2 goals in ireland game. Seems to me he has to sit out his next game on 7th september. Am I right to think that that's a good think for those who plan to have Ronaldo in their fantasy teams?

Your rihgt. Didn't watch the game myself looked at stats. If he got the yellow for taking of the shirt then that's the best yellow for his FPL supporters . 😛

His form should keep him pretty safe you'd hope, but Silva (who was also excellent when he came on) and Chalobah waiting in the wings too. If you can take the benchings here and there I think he has to be worth a pop at that price.

    Can’t get to Ronaldo easily

    Is this a viable alternative

    Bruno and perica out
    Lukaku and Allan in.

    Or hold Bruno

Yeah. Lukaku against Villa without probably both CBs and gk is a great captaincy shout. After that 5 and 6 captain salah.

        Would you rather have

        A) lukaku and raphinha

        B) Bamford and son

Am thinking B for right now and can always switch to A after Lukaku fixture swing. Rest of my team is set the way I want just can't decide this

Could work out but Bamford seems like a weak link at least for this gw and you don't have flexibility to jump on a premium forward if Luka/CR/Kane start crushing it. Seem to be viable alternatives to Grealish and Benrahma that might solve that?

I think a second premium is worthwhile instead of lots of 8s.

Can you do Son to Raphinha and Bamford to Ronaldo?

I disagree with the sentiment that you can't switch to a premium striker. Son down and one of the strikers up. Easily done. I like it mate.

I think people are forgetting that Son is also a premium.

Gallagher is not a bad shout but yeah I would try find an extra 0.1 for Gray. If you can get a bit more there are some decent options at 6m

Not much in the 5.5 bracket so I’d say find extra for Gray or 6.0.

You really need to stick with them for 10 weeks?
In 10 weeks you will have 10FTs which means you can possible change most of your first 11 by then.

I'd say get Ronaldo till 7 and switch to Lukaku from then on.

I'm genuinely interested in the potential returns (or lack thereof) of rotating three of the cheapest playing defenders vs a decent 5M defender with good fixtures. So the question really is about how I structure my team going forward (and leaving transfers available for when Antonio gets injured, red cards, Covid etc)

Basically this. He just played 96 minutes last night, waiting until the last 5 to score twice, so it's not as if he lacks fitness. And it's not as if he needs tactics learning either.

WC is very tempting as I am chasing in my mini league, but I dont feel like Lukaku will outscore DCL for the next 3 fixtures by a lot, if at all, given the fixtures. Should I just do Bruno + Wilson --> Torres + CR7 for a -4?

        Sanchez
        TAA Shaw Veltman
        Torres Salah Benrahma Raphinha
        DCL CR7(c) Antonio
        Bench: Amartey, Tsimikas, Brownhill

Bench is rubbish but I think the team is probably good enough for the next 2 GWs? I can use my next week's transfer to shift out Tsimikas/Amartey to a wolves defender and WC on gw7.

        Advice much appreciated!

Does mean doubling up on Ronaldo and Bruno but I could see that being potentially explosive for the next 3 games

Interesting, I have considered this a little as a Bruno and Son owner but I’m just in 2 minds over parting with Son. He has done well so far this season with 2 double digit returns, and he is a nice differential. But on the other hand my team might look better with him out plus Spurs haven’t looked great offensively

I’m happy if it’s a 1-0 and he gets the goal and bonus like it’s been the case twice so far, but I worry that it won’t last. Shame he’s in a weird price range where you can downgrade to an admittedly less nailed but more explosive pick, or try somehow find the funds to go up to a 12

Traore has 19 returns in his last 5,600 PL minutes (wat, BRE, sou, NEW)

Tossing up between the two myself, hard to separate the fixtures. Traore has burnt me a few times before but I think he’s probably the best wolves mid option in terms of minutes, not sure the hype around Trincao with Podence around. Sarr I think is still solid but haven’t seen any Watford games so can’t speak on the eye test so have to go off touch map and xgi
