International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who will miss Gameweek 4?

The first international break of the season got underway today, with not far off 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Some national sides are cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their nations’ respective matches.

Others won’t be featuring at all, with the Premier League clubs digging their heels in and (mostly) refusing to release players for national team duty if they are representing, or playing a match in, a country on the UK government’s red list.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Raphinha (£6.5m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Richarlison (£7.6m) look set to have the fortnight off and – as it stands – be available for Gameweek 4, then, although the threat of five-day sanctions beyond the international window for Brazil players still hangs in the air at present.

Who Will Miss Out in Gameweek 4?

Toney off the mark as injuries and Covid impact Villa 3

Anyone travelling to a red-list country faces quarantine for 10 full days in a managed hotel on their return to the UK, and Premier League players are no exception.

As far as we’re aware, there are only five such FPL assets who fall into this category in the September international break.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m), Emiliano Buendia (£6.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£4.5m), Giovani Lo Celso (£5.9m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) have been given permission by their clubs to head to South America and all of them will miss Gameweek 4 as a result.

The quintet are available for their countries’ first two World Cup qualifying matches but will not take part in the third international match – meaning that their quarantine periods will have ended by the time Gameweek 5 comes around.

OTHER PLAYERS WHOSE COUNTRIES FACE RED-LIST NATIONS

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 3?

You may notice some players in the club-by-club list below whose names we originally listed as being at risk of missing Gameweek 4 if they went away on international duty.

There is a compromise of sorts for these FPL assets: they are being allowed to represent their countries but in only the fixtures not staged in a red-list nation.

For example, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is being allowed to turn out for Jamaica in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at home to Panama on Sunday.

But Antonio will miss the Reggae Boyz’ other two games, away at Mexico and Costa Rica, as both of those countries are on the UK’s red list for international travel.

As a result, and barring injury or illness, he’ll be allowed to play in Gameweek 4 for West Ham.

I think this season we're going to see a new level of Ronaldo. He loves challenging himself and setting goals to achieve. This season he'll be 100% motivated to go all out to win the Golden Boot (after joining the league 3 games late). Beating the likes of Salah, Kane, Lukaku who are in their prime and really cementing himself as the greatest of all time ahead of Messi.

I think this may be FPL wishful thinking. It assumes he wasn't fully motivated in previous seasons which I don't believe is the case.

What's that supposed to mean? He scored 5 more goals than Lukaku in less minutes last season in Serie A.

Maybe not a new level, but just continue to be as good as he has been.

While Messi has chosen to ‘wind down’ in the French league, Ronaldo is going to be dominating in the toughest league in the world! Any trophy with United will be much harder than Messi with PSG. Just got to wait and see if he can do it.

Defence is really suffering there. No TAA, City or Chelsea. You’re going to be cringing every week when they’re all getting clean sheets. I think im going to go big in defence once Chelsea and city fixtures swing and have one from each with TAA.

That’s the million dollar question! Rudiger and Azpi for Chelsea, and Dias for City, but depends if you want nailed or attacking with rotation risk. I think I’ll take Dias for safety, but James for attack from Chelsea.

I'd like to know this too. Seems Semedo is the favourite go to wolves option right now but I had him for a while last season and he flatters to deceive. Saiss is a goal machine when he's on it.

Watched them dominate United, but get nothing out of it. They looked great, but still haven’t got a goal all season. If they can just get that final ball and shot to click they could be great value, but it’s wait and see for now for me.

Ronaldo did excellent in italy even though team mates were avrg apart from 1-2, the League plays defensive football, fields were poor, lack of media attention.

Now he will be playing for what makes him legend, best fields in the world, decent team mates. Centre of media attention which make him more motivated.

Unless he is injured i can see him scoring 20-25 goals easily.

Defensive football? Serie A averaged over 3 goals per game in each of the last two seasons! The Premier League averaged about 2.7.

        exactly and thank you!
Posts like this one make me sure that some people around here have absolutely no clue what they are saying.

And they say it with confidence and conviction! (which is the BIGGER problem)

Pretty much the same as my draft where I tried to fit in Salah, Lukaku, Ronaldo and TAA (except for Bergwijn and Benrahma), just don't like the balance of it for myself.

I stumbled across what I think is a good rotation between Dier and Dennis at Watford. Changing between 442 and 343. Only 9.4 between them at current prices is reasonable for decent rotation.

Just trying out a GW7 or 8 WC team here. Obviously it’s a few weeks away so likely to change a bit.

    Sa, Foster
    TAA, Dias, James, Dier, Livra
    Salah, Mount, Torres, Raphinha, Biss
    Ronaldo, Antonio, Dennis

442 / 343 rotation with Dennis and Dier

I’m pretty set on the long term Liverpool, City and Chelsea defence.

    What you think?

    Salah Bruno(c) Greenwood Benrahma

Agreed! Template will change around that time and would be a shame to have used WC now. See my post above with a GW7 or 8 WC.

          • 5 Years

I think you will see a lot of Leeds, Chelsea and City.

Europe might also mean West Hams highly owned assets move out.

Everton assets might also not be as favoured.

          Still early days for Ronaldo.

So a few things changing then I guess.

Yeah i suppose. Some WCers this week are moving away from Benrahma, and DCL is a good placeholder for Bamford. I think WC4 will be similar to WC7 where likes of CR7/Digne/Shaw/Benrahma/DCL > will move to James/Cancelo/Raphina/Bamford/Lukaku

Like this balance! Livramento over Duffy might be good longer term. Saints have a decent run of fixtures next month which could save a transfer or 2 down the line. But starting line up looks great.

Son could make way soon as well depending if Spurs start scoring more goals.

I’m actually looking at a double change.
Son and Tsimikas to Raphinha and Robertson in GW5.

But Torres is another good option as long as you know what you want to do with the extra funds.

Another way to put it is to assess how likely you are to ever want three players from those teams.

          Everton
          Palace
          Norwich
          Burnley

Perhaps Brownhill or McArthur are best in that they wouldn’t block any potential triple ups
