International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who will miss Gameweek 4?

The first international break of the season got underway today, with not far off 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Some national sides are cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their nations’ respective matches.

Others won’t be featuring at all, with the Premier League clubs digging their heels in and (mostly) refusing to release players for national team duty if they are representing, or playing a match in, a country on the UK government’s red list.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Raphinha (£6.5m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Richarlison (£7.6m) look set to have the fortnight off and – as it stands – be available for Gameweek 4, then, although the threat of five-day sanctions beyond the international window for Brazil players still hangs in the air at present.

Who Will Miss Out in Gameweek 4?

Toney off the mark as injuries and Covid impact Villa 3

Anyone travelling to a red-list country faces quarantine for 10 full days in a managed hotel on their return to the UK, and Premier League players are no exception.

As far as we’re aware, there are only five such FPL assets who fall into this category in the September international break.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m), Emiliano Buendia (£6.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£4.5m), Giovani Lo Celso (£5.9m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) have been given permission by their clubs to head to South America and all of them will miss Gameweek 4 as a result.

The quintet are available for their countries’ first two World Cup qualifying matches but will not take part in the third international match – meaning that their quarantine periods will have ended by the time Gameweek 5 comes around.

OTHER PLAYERS WHOSE COUNTRIES FACE RED-LIST NATIONS

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 3?

You may notice some players in the club-by-club list below whose names we originally listed as being at risk of missing Gameweek 4 if they went away on international duty.

There is a compromise of sorts for these FPL assets: they are being allowed to represent their countries but in only the fixtures not staged in a red-list nation.

For example, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is being allowed to turn out for Jamaica in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at home to Panama on Sunday.

But Antonio will miss the Reggae Boyz’ other two games, away at Mexico and Costa Rica, as both of those countries are on the UK’s red list for international travel.

As a result, and barring injury or illness, he’ll be allowed to play in Gameweek 4 for West Ham.

Is anyone else jumping on Wolves assets for the great fixtures GW-4 onwards?

    Worth adding Jimenez or Trincao?

    Many thanks

I think I’m going with Bamford instead
Would go Jimi if I were getting on wolves though

I was thinking of a front three of

DCL / Bamford / Antonio for the next 3 GW's.

Fairly boring transfer but i went Tsimikas to Coady to get the 0.1m squad value rise and hopefully see clean sheets coming in

I’m just not convinced by a team with zero goals all season, but they are playing quite well and fixtures are great. I’m more interested in their defence actually. Sa, Saiss, Semedo and Marcal all decent.

Is Marcal nailed? I saw a few posts saying that he might not be?

I’m not sure to be honest. Just know he’s played all the games so far and doesn’t look like they have someone injured.

      Jimmy looks tempting

Not a massive fan of Traore as he’s so wasteful, or their defence who seem to do whatever it takes to concede a goal

I was really impressed with Trincao in the united game. I think I need to see some evidence of FPL points before committing though.

They do but it’s the threat from Romero, Sanchez not being available for the easy fixture

            Thereafter the fixtures aren’t great

That's a long old journey over there so without that, it could be the difference of starting or being benched vs Newcastle.

Palace, Everton and Newcastle have only 5 players away on international duty.

Are there any studies/stats that suggest whether teams with significantly fewer players away can expect to do better than normal upon Premier league resumption?

    1. JBG
      • 5 Years

Considering the teams you mention there, better for them is not letting in 3+ goals. So not so sure studies/stats helps either way.

Made some bold moves last night, after some strong... err... coffee. Wondering if I will regret them.

Took a 4pt hit to ditch Fernandes, Toney and Barnes for Torres, Ronaldo and Gray.

    Current team:

    Sanchez
    TAA, Coufal, Shaw
    Salah, Greenwood, Torres, Gray
    Ings, Ronaldo, Antonio.

Issues: ings has awful fixtures that I should have considered. Bench cover is weak and I have Torres so need cover. I didnt want to take any hits unless I had to.

Considering a wildcard, possibly shifting to 3-5-2.

Look you got rid of 2 ‘problems’ in Barnes and Toney, and made life simple going forward by getting Ronaldo early.

Next week might just be a little nervy with no bench, Ings, Torres and Ronaldo (will he start straight away?)

      1. GoonerSteve
        • 14 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

Yes exactly and with so many players scoring at the moment, cant afford to slip behind.

Still tempted by the wildcard. I could rebalance the squad with Livramento, for example, offering some cover.

But realistically I'll probably leave it. Hate taking hits though lol.

I wouldn’t use a wildcard or take a hit just for a bench. Hope everyone plays and use a transfer next week.

Was planning on Ings and Barnes for DCL and Gray but now with Ronaldo floating about its thrown a spanner into the works.
Do i keep Barnes another week and do Fernandes and Ings to Ronaldo (C) and torres instead?

I think Barnes needs to go. Ronaldo would be nice to have early, but hopefully Fernandez gets some returns as well in the next couple.

I’ve also got a couple other areas I want to change so holding off on Ronaldo for now.

Good chance to gamble on him starting hot. 3 great fixtures. Building a team now with GW7 in mind is quite easy. Its just a way to target the next 3 nice run of games for Man Utd and Everton. Ronaldo and Shaw Very easy switches to Lukaku and chelsea defenders.

I don’t think so - looking at the Chelsea section of Neale’s article, they have about a million players away on international duty, including Lukaku who’s playing 3 games

Chelsea don’t really smash teams either at the best of times, let alone when they’ve all just been jumbled back together after an IB… could see a 1-0 or 2-1, something of that ilk

Bruno & CR7 more chance of being involved in a big 5/6 goal thrashing as there will be a truly bonkers atmosphere at OT - like the Varane unveiling before Leeds on steroids

And Salah probably best chance of all of them for a haul after his big rest

You sure Chelsea will just fall apart just because their players have been playing football? It's their full time job, after all. If they get back a couple of days before the match, I wouldn't be concerned. But valid point that they don't usual steamroll their opposition.

Ofc Salah may turn out to outscore both of the two, but with home matches for Chelsea and United, and 95% capping either Lukaku or Ronaldo, I think I'll go with the herd

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          2 years, 6 months ago

Definitely don’t think they’ll fall apart - but I don’t see them going out & smashing 4 or 5 past Villa with that much international involvement - more like 1 or 2, just enough to get the job done

Whereas there’s going to be scenes of a lifetime at OT, it’ll be a once in a generation atmosphere…

Could you imagine if Cantona or Roy Keane were coming back to play - because it’s going to be approaching that level - Bruno & CR7 could be heavily involved in a smashing (Newcastle manager-chairman-fans relations are also basically at an all time low so if their heads go down it could be 8 or 9)

And Salah with 2 weeks off will probably have the best chance of all the big hitters for a haul

We are absolutely terrible, have an awful chairman, a clueless manager, had a poor transfer window and have had a bad start to the season.

All of this points to Steve Bruce scraping a lucky win or draw, or valiant 1-0 defeat.

Happens time and again with this lucky man.

"Chelsea don’t really smash teams either at the best of times, let alone when they’ve all just been jumbled back together after an IB… could see a 1-0 or 2-1, something of that ilk ". That's why they needed Lukaku though. With Werner and Havertz they had troubles breaking teams defending with a low block. Romelu gives them much more options.

          • 14 Years

Very true - but he was wasteful against Arsenal - and had that famous Lukaku-patented “touch of a baby elephant” at times against Liverpool

But to be honest its not right put people off him either (he obviously could do well vs Villa, particularly if Villa capitulate) but I do think the Chelsea squad’s international commitments will tip this game in the favour of the defences rather than the attacks

And there’s going to be something completely out of the ordinary in terms of atmosphere at Old Trafford that could/should drive the team on to something special

And as I keep pointing out - Salah will probably low key be the best option of all

          1. Sgt Frank Drebin
            • 7 Years

Good points and I agree re Salah. Not sure how much importance we should put to the atmosphere at Old Trafford, but for sure I like how they don't stop at for example 2-0 and always try to score more goals. Generally, I think Man United is a great team from the FPL perspective, but too bad that they have so many options in attack. Fernandes was 100% nailed and on pens and that's what made him a great option, Ronaldo also could be great, but being classified as a 12.5 forwards works against him from the perspective of value and team structure.

Almost any week Salah could get a hatrick, but I do expcect Leeds to be a little stronger at home with CB's coming back to fitness. You know if Liverpool score big Salah will be heavily involved.
I can see Chelsea winning comfortably but I am not sure if Lukaku is guaranteed to get the 50% goal involvement. I can imagine a 3-0 win with the goals shared around the team.
With United their xG has not been great so far but with Ronaldo who knows. The team will be buzzing with Ronaldo back though.

Jermaine Jenas said on MOTD2 that it was “looking good for Wolves”.

They’ve played three, lost three and are yet to score. Traoré’s final ball / finish is awful, Trincao is new to the league and Jiménez is still getting back to his best - how is that “looking good”?

I think he might be the worst pundit I’ve seen in the last ten years. Totally devoid of personality, always having a go at refs as well. What the BBC see in him over say, Alex Scott, for a prime slot on MOTD I will never know.

      I think he’s pretty sensible

Wolves have played Leicester, Spurs and Utd conceding only once in each fixture

Yes Jimenez is yet to return to his best but he’s getting in the right positions - only takes a goal

Agree that JJ is a bit of a pillock, as are most of them though. However this is not the comment I would pull him on. Things are looking good for Wolves, they're playing well and were unlucky in 3 tricky fixtures.

Jiménez is key to Wolves. Hopefully he is back to his best soon, he was great before the injury. If he starts converting the 1-0 losses could be wins soon enough. Traoré will hit streaks of form but who knows when.

Any comments/recommendations to this WC? I think it looks fairly solid and pretty balanced, but any comments welcome.

    Sa
    Trent - Rudiger - Semedo
    Salah - Torres - Raphina - Gray
    DCL - Ronaldo - Antonio

Bench: Steele - Sissoko - Dier - Livramento

    0.2m in the bank.

Looks great. Only pick I'm not keen on is Torres but he seems to have a lot of backing at the moment

I am on WC. Consider cash in Benrahma now for Sarr and 0.2 profit. I think Benrahma may be rotated soon do the change now can save a transfer. Any comments?

I wouldn’t sell Benrahma before Southampton

It is one of the reasons I haven't done it (the other is waiting for team news just before deadline). As I have Antonio and Sarr's fixture is not too bad, the trade-off for one FT for next week is acceptable for me.

Yeah i’m on the same. I’m getting rid of Benrahma. Sarr or Traore

I'm also considering him out. Depends on how the break goes whether I go through with it or not.

Ronaldo scoring against Ireland is the equivalent of United playing some mid table team in the Championship. Total mismatch.

      Yeah.

He never scores important goals vs. Major teams

Ireland are brutal, absolutely shite - and have been for years now, it’s such a shame

But Ronaldo didn’t just score, he basically got a hattrick (give or take the missed pen) against a parked bus, whilst barely being in the game

I suppose you won’t bring him in then?

How does this look for a -4?

Bruno, Barnes & Ings - > Torres, Jota & Ronaldo

Essentially Barnes - > Torres is the hit.

Considering the same. Think I'll wait for more news on Firmino before deciding

Torres can easily be benched, not worth the headache

Who do you reckon then, bar Jota and under 7.7?

Every year people think Pep roulette is not a thing? What happens to Torres when KDB is fit??

True, at 7.1 he is the cheapest risk in the city team though. He is low owned so could be a big upside if you get him and he scores big. I think CL is bound to mix things up with rotation also. I still think it is a wait and see with city unless they keep winning 5-0 every week.

Depends. I wouldnt like to double up With DCL and Gray. If DCL then i’d say Traore or Sarr are better punts. I dont think Gray will keep up his form. Without DCL i’d say Doucoure is a better punt than Gray

Can get to Ronaldo without a hit(as I have 2 FTs), but that'll mean I have to persist with Barnes for one more week. Which I absolutely don't want to do.
Who do I replace him with (7.7 itb)?
*Already have Jota and Brownhill under that price range.

    For FanTeam

    A) Mane + Son
    B) Salah + Torres

      B
Think you are getting hung up on Mané, he's the worst value option of him, Salah and Jota, even in Fanteam at 10.0. The teams I have with him are a mess, the teams I have without him are doing well, it's that simple. He's somebody to rotate with Son at best.

Would you WC this, want to get Ronaldo in, and Veltman is a problem if he’s lost his spot?

    Sanchez
    TAA Shaw Veltman
    Salah Fernandes Greenwood Benrahma
    Antonio Ings Toney

    Steele Ayling Tsimikas Brownhill

    2 FT, 0.9 itb

    Thanks!!

I would not, get rid of Ings for DCL, Bamford or Jimenez for there favourable fixture run.

My team is "exactly" the same except I have Digne not Ayling and 0.0 in the bank (but also 2 FT)

I would personally swerve Ronaldo and I certainly would not WC that. You have lots of options with 2 FT and defence is a concern - I would be looking at Tierney/Semedo while trying to upgrade Ings.

You have the same problem as me in that Tsimikas is blocking Jota for Greenwood in gw5 so need to find a way around that.

Suggested moves would be Ings-> DCL, and Ayling/Veltman-> Tierney but that doesn't really solve the problem above but it's a nice gw4 team

Thanks mate, I’m pretty dead set on bringing Ronaldo in. I understand people’s reservations but I’d never forgive myself if I swerved and he returned…

I suppose I can just do something simple like Bruno Ings >> Raphinha Ronaldo and possibly Toney >> DCL / Jimenez the week after??

Be nice to get Jota in somehow too, but I’d probably need to WC for that much of a reshuffle

I was also dead set on Ronaldo but Bruno is such a troll I just feel like he will haul again at home.
Those moves look pretty good. Raphinha in gw4 and Jimenez in gw5 could be good long term moves and you could even save your wc for much later.

Maybe consider Sarr to replace Bruno?

Actually Ings+Tsimikas -> Jimenez+Digne is the fix and sets you up really nicely
        GW5- Greenwood -> Jota
        GW6- Toney+Bruno-> Gray + Ronaldo for a hit
        Week 7 wildcard
        Boom, done
