International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who will miss Gameweek 4?

The first international break of the season got underway today, with not far off 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Some national sides are cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their nations’ respective matches.

Others won’t be featuring at all, with the Premier League clubs digging their heels in and (mostly) refusing to release players for national team duty if they are representing, or playing a match in, a country on the UK government’s red list.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Raphinha (£6.5m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Richarlison (£7.6m) look set to have the fortnight off and – as it stands – be available for Gameweek 4, then, although the threat of five-day sanctions beyond the international window for Brazil players still hangs in the air at present.

Who Will Miss Out in Gameweek 4?

Toney off the mark as injuries and Covid impact Villa 3

Anyone travelling to a red-list country faces quarantine for 10 full days in a managed hotel on their return to the UK, and Premier League players are no exception.

As far as we’re aware, there are only five such FPL assets who fall into this category in the September international break.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m), Emiliano Buendia (£6.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£4.5m), Giovani Lo Celso (£5.9m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) have been given permission by their clubs to head to South America and all of them will miss Gameweek 4 as a result.

The quintet are available for their countries’ first two World Cup qualifying matches but will not take part in the third international match – meaning that their quarantine periods will have ended by the time Gameweek 5 comes around.

OTHER PLAYERS WHOSE COUNTRIES FACE RED-LIST NATIONS

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 3?

You may notice some players in the club-by-club list below whose names we originally listed as being at risk of missing Gameweek 4 if they went away on international duty.

There is a compromise of sorts for these FPL assets: they are being allowed to represent their countries but in only the fixtures not staged in a red-list nation.

For example, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is being allowed to turn out for Jamaica in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at home to Panama on Sunday.

But Antonio will miss the Reggae Boyz’ other two games, away at Mexico and Costa Rica, as both of those countries are on the UK’s red list for international travel.

As a result, and barring injury or illness, he’ll be allowed to play in Gameweek 4 for West Ham.

    Sanchez
    TAA - Livramento - Shaw - Veltmam
    Salah - Bruno - Barnes - Raphinha
    Ings - Antonio

    Foster - Ayling - Brownhill - Scarlett

3m in the bank and 2 transfers.

    I have exact money for:
    Barnes > Benrhama + Ings > Lukaku

I'm not sure its worht doing this or spreading the money elsewhere?

i dont think its the optimal structure personally - you have to ask your self whether Livra + Bruno (without captaincy) > Jota + DCL for example.

Not saying I like the transfers but captaincy is the issue surely, which those moves don't address.

If you have 3 premiums, you can only captain 1.
I dont see when Bruno would be captained above the others until GW14.
Without captaincy 12m is a lot for his expected output

yea completely understand. I just see it as an opportunity to have a premium striker thats easily swapped for a Ronaldo or Kane if needed in future.

I've been out of the loop for a while, but are a lot of people getting rid of Bruno??

OP has Salah and Lukaku thats plenty captain options going forward surely? Future subsequent transfers can get rid of Bruno if needed.

I'd go Trincao or Traore over Barnes but I like the moves in principle.

Ronaldo's ownership 10% now. The rate at which his transfers in are going, come the GW deadline, his ownership will be so high that there will be little to be gained from having him and him scoring won't be that exciting.

Not under the radar exactly but he and Trincao as playing so advance this year and Wolves have really great fixtures.

Some of the much cheaper assets are probably receiving a few more transfers in to fund Ronaldo, but otherwise yeah - depreciation across the board.

Great to see as someone who has started pretty strongly and not planning on wildcarding

As a United fan I'm genuinely a little annoyed at the prospect of Ronaldo taking penalties off of Fernandes - not even from an FPL perspective, simply because it seems disrespectful to take penalties away from someone with a better record than Ronaldo just to appease his ego, it has "Yeah you might be better, but he's the bosses son" vibes to me.

My sell for Ronaldo is easy...12.5M...I can downgrade him to Lukaku for a hit and put 1m on another position if it goes wrong...

If Ronaldo scores first game he will go to 12.7 or 12.8 in a few hours...I don't want to risk that...

    Is this worth a WC?
    From this:
    Sanchez (Foster)
    TAA-Shaw-Marcal (Duffy-Ayling)
    Salah-Bruno-Greenwood-Gundo-Benny
    Ings-Antonio (Scarlett)

    To this (changes in CAPs):
    Sanchez (Foster)
    taa-TANGANGA-Marcal (Duffy-Ayling)
    Salah-JOTA-Greenwood-Benny (ALLAN)
    RONALDO-Antonio-DCL

Can you think of any factors that might be negatively influencing Ings “underlying stats” in the first 3 gameweeks?

First 3 games for a new club perhaps? Multiple players in the attack being new to the club? No Leon Bailey? And through all that he’s still on 6.33 PPG which is 250-ish on a 38 game season

Ings is an utterly utterly elite striker, one of the best in the league, if not the world - it’s his fitness you need to worry about, not his underlying stats

I mean his underlying stats are still important. He's not so good that they don't matter.

Sample size is lol though - more chance he just reverts to his priors from previous seasons.

Has been lucky so far given his underlyings though. A random last minute pen and an overhead screamer doesn't scream sustainable however good you are (again though I wouldn't be taking much/anything from 3 games of poor stats).

Think he's a sell myself with upcoming fixtures and alternatives at the price point.

I just removed him - quite simple.

          1) he's still figuring things out (as are all of villa)

Alonso is definitely rotation risk. He is on form at the moment but he is really really slow. Tuchel like to tinker from time to time, and against some really quick counter attack team he might opt for Chilwell.

I would argue Rudiger is probably the most nailed defender, as Tuchel seem to favor him in one of the 3 CBs role, and pick 2 out of Christensen, T.Silva and Azpilicueta. James is relatively nailed at the moment, but in big games, Tuchel might opt for Azp's defending on the RWB and play Rudiger, T.SIlva and Christensen.

The captain Azpili plays RCB and RWB. Rudiger also. The rest aren't nailed but I'd expect James to play plenty.

      Tricky landscape

Mendy (like Ederson) may be worth setting and forgetting

Chilwell and Alonso cancel each other out

      Reece at 5.5, 5.6 explosive

Rudiger is a stable, steady 5.5 with a goal in him and no cameos

Christensen the value at 5. Not sure he needs to play every week to be excellent value tbh

Lukaku aside, I'm tempted by a double if not treble up

I also like the look of Cancelo (no Mendy) and Dias for a bit more, but Chelsea seem the value

      Trent is Trent

      Matip only 5 as well

No idea if his price will drop but I don't intend to sell him at all. I presume there are people wildcarding and stacking their defences with 4.5 and 4.0 options. Horrific.

I have tried to think through the implications for Shaw of Ronaldo joining. On the one hand, I can see fewer clean sheets, but that might be compensated by Ronaldo converting more crosses and free kicks. I'm willing to observe until Chelsea defenders come online after GW6.

There are some good 4.5m options, I think, this year. Obviously the premium defenders will get more CSs but I honestly don't see the issue with Spurs, Wolves etc. 4.5m defenders

That is not a bad shout with Doucoure over Gray just seen there stats side by side.

        stats AND eye test.

        Gray has been jammy/lucky.

Where as with Doucoure, it's goals imminent.

I haven't see any toffee games yet, but I have been hearing that Gray has been looking good?

I've watched them as I've had 3 toffee players.

Gray was lucky. Doucoure was unlucky, he's doing his famous runs again where he pops up unmarked.

He's also more likely to play the whole 90 compared to Gray.

All that and 0.1 profit, why not...

Overthinking, Gray has been in good positions and has less working back to do compared to doucoure. Doucoure is still a decent option though

yes - but more often than not, Gray is marked, whereas Doucoure usually pops up like a genie like "surprise mutha*****"

Could be a hit or miss with both. But Doucoure has a pedigree, and that surprise factor.

Also he's more nailed to do the full 90 as he is vital for the team.

I am. In my team as a 4th/5th midfielder depending on opponent. Always liked Doucoure at Watfort. Seems like he is now used in the same way. I think he will get goals and assists regulary.

I've been waiting for a Firmino update. Would like Jota but thinking of Torres for now, also allows me to change Wilson to DCL or Tsimikas to Tierney

I'm like 90% on Jota. I can't see Firmino starting either of the next two.

Shaw to Reguilon, Maupay to Pukki/Armstrong/Dennis, or Benrahma to Gray (to fund Vardy to Ronaldo) ??

pretty much depends on how many players ull be playing in each line.

But Maupay to Pukki seems the most sensible given the fixtures of all those mentioned.

Thanks mate - I have as it stands:
          Shaw, Digne, Trent
          Salah, Son, Benrahma, ESR,
          Maupay, Vardy, Michail

          Then fodder bench...

I am just conscious that Norwich haven’t looked too bright and Maupay’s fixtures aren’t far worse - but obvs losing Shaw is a risk given his ownership
