Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 4?

The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 has been completely turned on its head by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side host Newcastle United on Saturday, thrusting their assets into the spotlight, but there are other options on the radar too, including Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m), Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Harry Kane (£12.3m) and of course, the in-form Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 4 captain poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo is the runaway leader in this week’s captain poll, gaining 42.7% of votes so far, with Salah currently sitting in second, backed by 17.95%.

Fernandes occupies third place with 9.85% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Lukaku and Antonio, with 7.53% and 4.25% respectively.

              No, not worth a transfer now, but if you only play him when forced to rather than rotate based on fixtures you should take him out on your next WC

            Never needed a player to come off your bench? Perfect example this week, I have Raphinha who annoyingly looks like he won't play....def don't want to sell him with Leeds fixtures so I'm quite happy to have White first on my bench

              You are missing the point. Absolutely nothing wrong with having bench players that you expect more than 2 from. But its silly to only think of them as fill ins rather than field them when their fixtures are nice

        Probably right, but he's the kind of player who can pop up with a goal from no where, and not beyond realm of possibilities for him to score v Chelsea.

    Bring in Sarr or Raphina this week for a -4 or play Duffy and get in Raphina for free next week?
    Maddison was a bad first week pick but at least no worse than Barnes. Second price drop this week means I can’t get in Torres by 0.1

      I've had Sanchez so far and contemplated moving to Raya or Guaita but Brighton are just a better defensive unit than those and longterm have better fixtures

          I have Duffy too although he'd be benched most weeks. If you know you'll have to play him most weeks then yeah that's a bit tougher, I'd probably take a chance on someone else as I don't like defensive double-ups unless it's someone like Chelsea. If you'll only play him the odd week if he has a good fixture then I'd still consider it

      Bachmann could be worth a punt - he had his save game dialled in vs. Spurs after a quiet first two games

      Watford conceded the least goals in the championship last season (30 conceded in 46 games) and were particularly stingy at home (12 conceded in 23 games)

      Better fixtures in the short term so he should have one or two cleansheets in him hopefully

                PP have CR7 at 1.44 - I'd say Kaku will have dropped down to that level by 17:15 tomorrow evening if you fancied a bit of arbitrage speculation

                1.62 to 1.44 could still lock in a fair bit of profit...

                Only problem is if he's benched & comes on late you're probably screwed - and its still gambling either way of course, he may not continue to fall - but it's a serious run of money seems to be coming in for him
