Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 4?

The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 has been completely turned on its head by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side host Newcastle United on Saturday, thrusting their assets into the spotlight, but there are other options on the radar too, including Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m), Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Harry Kane (£12.3m) and of course, the in-form Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 4 captain poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo is the runaway leader in this week’s captain poll, gaining 42.7% of votes so far, with Salah currently sitting in second, backed by 17.95%.

Fernandes occupies third place with 9.85% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Lukaku and Antonio, with 7.53% and 4.25% respectively.

    I know this is boring - but any mods around to give an update on the FFS H2H league?
    The page still says 'the wknd of GW3' - which was two wknds ago.
    I see that access to view the leagues/divisions has been disabled.
    Have we got any idea when it'll be back up?

      This is so frustrating as it's where most of the fun in FPL comes from, for me. Last season I was relegated from League 1 on the final day but didnt mind. This season after 3 gws I still dont know which league I am in or who I have played. It may be harsh on those doing the hard work for the set up but I'm sure that I arnt the only one quickly losing interest in it. I've posted about 4 times on this subject and when I do get a reply from one of the mods, it invariably says "be patient" it takes a lot of setting up.
      I dont lay the blame at anyones door but I needed to voice my opinion.

        Yeah agree.
        I'm fine being patient - so long as we're kept updated.
        A two week out of date holding response feels like a level that FFS normally hold themselves to a higher standard than.

        But I do acknowledge, a lot of entrants, a lot of leagues, and by the sounds of it - a lot of issues!

    Can't say I have a plan for Bruno in A or B. Barnes and Ings the obvious weaknesses. In C and D, I'd sell Barnes to Raphinha next week. Currently on for D, as it bolsters bench and gets the priority captain.

          I was going to say Torres to be fair but think Matip on your bench is waste of funds unless you are going to play him over White? Maybe Matip > Dier and bank change? Free's up another Pool spot in Midfield 🙂

      Yeah I'd just be wary in the case that he might fall in price, he's only around -30% currently but if he continues to not get flagged and it's confirmed he won't be playing on Sunday then he might drop quickly

      i wouldn't do it for a hit, ings is such a good finisher he can get a goal against anyone. And DCL doesn't generally go mad.

      doesn't look an obvious "hit payer-offer"

    Don't have Ronaldo.

    Armband on Fernandes based on the theory that the match will be the Ronaldo show and Newcastle will double mark him and might leave Fernandes exposed.

      He's had injury issues constantly really since joining, think he started this season and picked up another, not sure if he's available though. Likely to compete with either Havertz and Werner for a position up top with Lukaku, or with each other for a wide position or behind Lukaku

        I was thinking the same but is it worthy to spend my FT to get rid DCL for Bam if DCL end up not worked out? DCL scored 3 goals so far but two of them from penalties which worry me because Everton are not going to keep getting penalties every week.

    Question - in terms of set-and-forget keepers for 5m and under, does anyone think that De Gea could be better than Sa or Sanchez?

    I suppose it matters how long the 'set-and-forget' is. But next 10 Sa fixtures are favourite but De Gea's next 14 from after that is ridiculously good. We know Man U's defence is going to be somewhat consistent this year but only 3 games data from wolves

      Depends on Henderson, he seemed to establish himself as the preferred choice at the end of last season, struggling with long-covid for a while but if he returns within a couple of weeks he might scupper your plans

    GK Sanchez/Steele

    B looks better than expected given the strikers - I would get Saar this week over Raph if Raph is out and get Raph next week

    GK/Defence is same in both options

      Yh similar drafts for me too . The problem with heavy hitter team is inability to get jota,mount,torres,greenwood price bracket. It's basically 2 or 3 downgrades for 1 premium.

      Yeah I'm having the same dilemma, mine listed below.

      A) Shaw, Jota, Torres, DCL
      B) White, Benrahma, raphina, Lukaku

      I don't really have an issue with B per se, the main problem is it's so inflexible to jump on other players. You're basically stuck with that team until such times as you bin off one of the premiums.

      Considered the same moves but I just don't think it's worth it. Ings -> DCL who's a better option imo than Jota and you're basically relying on Ronaldo to outscore Bruno by 8 points at least just to break even.
