Mount and Christensen benched as Tuchel rings the changes for Villa clash

After a relatively quiet August, the Thomas Tuchel rotation has begun in earnest this evening.

Chelsea take on Aston Villa in the eighth and final Premier League fixture of the day, with kick-off at Stamford Bridge at 17:30 BST.

International break minutes and forthcoming UEFA Champions League involvement looks to have influenced Tuchel’s team selection, with the Blues boss making six changes from his side’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Thiago Silva starts after avoiding a FIFA ban, while deadline-day signing Saul Niguez makes his first appearance for the west London side.

Mateo Kovacic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Trevor Chalobah and Hakim Ziyech are also recalled.

Andreas Christensen, Jorginho, Mason Mount and Cesar Azpilicueta all drop to the bench, while Reece James is suspended and N’Golo Kante is injured.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has almost matched his Chelsea counterpart, making five changes from Gameweek 3 and seemingly sending his troops out in a wing-back system.

Two of the alterations are enforced, with Emi Martinez and Emi Buendia ruled out because of quarantine rules.

Jed Steer lines up in goal, with Ollie Watkins starting for the first time this season and lining up alongside Danny Ings in a two-man attack.

Tyrone Mings, Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn also return to the starting XI.

        I’m not keen on any compromise that brings in all 3 + Trent. But other than alternating Lukaku and Ronaldo (not going to be possible due to gain/loss in TV), just going to have to accept that the one you don’t own will haul from time to time.

    Lukaku best striker in league simple as that. Not because it was two chances, two goals it was the the way he finished them and how he had to make them and show speed strength and composure. He has got the lot. Confindent he will get something in next two. With that defence and midfield behind him.

    FFS had Lukaku (c) in my WC team until Fri night along with CR7 and Salah.

    Swapped for DCL, so I could have TAA too and a more 'balanced' squad.

    Currently feel 'balanced' is overated

      You are reading too much lateriser articles? Personally I think a cheap bench is fine even if only 2/3 outfielders might start. Particularly if you have used BB already. Christmas period might need a full bench besides that not necessary IMO.

        Possibly, most articles and advice on here suggested having a playing bench. Also, I have Torres, Jota and Christensen in my squad, all rotation risks, so it was the more sensible decision.

        Won't know for a few weeks if it was a error to go without and can probably switch to my original 3 premiums plans with a few moves if necessary.

        What are you basing that on though? Norwich have great fixtures upcoming dirt cheap defenders. As do wolves as do Arsenal. Plus there is Plethora of midfielders who are good value from those teams. Also Palace players and Southampton cheap players plus good fixtures in future.

      Exactly preseason I was told Vardy was not worth it. I also went Greenwood instead of Bruno. Gw2 I was laughed at and told I could still ‘salvage my season’ and get Bruno. It always seems on here if you make different choices you are automatically wrong. Those who go DCL Bamford etc could do well either.

      Most are not really ‘experts’ they are just people who play a lot of fpl who like to be seen and heard. They are human like the rest of us and can fall victim to group think. In fairness a fella on you tube channel fpl elite went two 4.5mids with TAA Lukaku Salah and Ronaldo.
      Secret about fpl is know what others in the community are doing and decide if is correct or if there is options they have missed/ignored.

          I think it is a bit unfair most content is free. It is not like they are forcing people to pay. To be honest I found the membership content on here only confused me more than anything, for example. Watching games is best first and foremost IMO.
