Salah on target as Liverpool assets prosper at Leeds

We continue our Scout Notes of the weekend’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) matches with analysis of Leeds United v Liverpool.

For a recap of all of Saturday’s action, check out our Scoreboard summary here.

LEEDS UNITED 0-3 LIVERPOOL

  • Goals: Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Fabinho (£5.4m), Sadio Mane (£11.9m)
  • Assists: Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Thiago (£5.4m)
  • Bonus (projected): Alexander-Arnold x3, Alisson (£6.0m) x2, Thiago x1, Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) x1
  • Red cards: Pascal Struijk (£4.4m)

SALAH JOINS 100 CLUB

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) netted his 100th Premier League goal by slotting in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£7.5m) perfect cross.

The Egyptian is the 30th player to have joined the ‘100 club’, with only four others reaching the milestone in fewer appearances.

In a match where Liverpool outshot their opponents 30-9, Salah was lively throughout, registering three shots in the box and 1.22 expected goals (xG).

He also came close to adding an assist when Thiago (£5.4m) headed home, but the Egyptian was a yard offside.

Liverpool doubled their lead after Leeds failed to clear an Alexander-Arnold corner, with Fabinho (£5.4m) smashing home from six-yards out, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) firing in during injury time for the Reds third.

The Senegalese winger finally scored with his 10th shot and third big chance of the game.

Sadio Mane’s shot map v Leeds United in Gameweek 4

TRENT’S CREATIVITY

Alexander-Arnold served up his second double-digit haul of the season, via an assist, clean sheet and three bonus points.

The England international’s creativity was again on show, as he created five chances and attempted nine crosses. In fact, his totals of 20 chances created, including four big chances, are both more than any other player in the game.

Again, we saw plenty of infield movements, which is captured on his Gameweek 4 touch heat map:

It’s also worth noting that Diogo Jota (£7.7m) was a little unfortunate not to register an assist with six created chances, with Mane particularly wasteful in front of goal.

ELLIOTT INJURED

An excellent match was overshadowed by an unfortunate ankle injury to Harvey Elliott (£5.5m), who was stretchered off just after the hour mark.

As a result, Pascal Struijk (£4.4m) was sent off, and will now sit out Leeds’ next three fixtures.

LEEDS YET TO WIN IN LEAGUE

Following this afternoon’s defeat, Leeds are still yet to win in the Premier League, but with fixtures easing from Gameweek 5 to 10 (see below), the likes of Raphinha (£6.5m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) still look like good options for our FPL squads.

Junior Firpo (£4.8m) took up some nice advanced positions, especially in the first-half, and could be one to add to the Watchlist, though Leeds will be without Struijk and possibly Diego Llorente (£4.5m), too, who limped off in the first-half with a hamstring injury.

LEEDS XI: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente (Struijk 33), Cooper, Firpo, Phillips, Dallas, Rodrigo (Roberts 45), Raphinha, Harrison (James 68), Bamford

LIVERPOOL XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago (Keita 90+3), Elliott (Henderson 63), Salah, Mane, Jota (Oxlade-Chamberlain 82)

Anyone see how bamford performed? I am considering him or jiminez as a toney replacement - focusing on the fixtures, to be honest.

Ah man, that's a tough choice. Greenwood has form, Jota has fixtures.

After watching both games, I'd say Jota looks on better form. Greenwood's goal was due to horrific goal keeping whilst Jota would have more points if Mane wanted to actually score goals.

          I'd go Jota.

Also one more thing that helps you hopefully. When United play the tougher games, Pogba will go left wing which means Sancho/Greenwood will battle for one spot.

Before you do that: You're selling a mid in good form and a forward, out for one game, in unreal form to get Lukaku. You have Ronaldo already. Your balance looks good as it is.

Palace just whipped Spurs, who were 3/3. Brentford conceded just 2 in 4 games and there are midweek European games.

October right? That's more than 2 weeks and he doesn't walk into the team, no way.

I don't think that's an issue - Martial been poor, Sancho not great, Lingard might put some pressure on but I think Greenwood is pretty set for a bit.

Yes he has tougher fixtures and was the player most affected by Ronaldo coming in, still think he is great but can't have them all.

MUN will easily score vs WHU and AVL. But yea, Jota higher risk & higher upside. But I wouldn’t risk it when Benrahma is already a slight risk

Yeah they will but Liverpool will more easily score vs CRY and Bre, Firmino being out helps i think as Greenwood has a lot of competition for his spot but yeah don't really want to lose either but want Lukaku more.

The beauty of keeping Antonio is you get to keep Jota and Greenwood… and Antonio. (If you’re set on it though it’s very tough, probs sell Greenwood just but it’s 50/50)

Greenwood has been United's best player this season and can play in two positions, whereas Jota is second choice to Firminho.

I like it, if I was WCing now (I did last week), I'd go for something similar, albeit with Raph as one of my midfielders (Sarr is good, Watford aren't). The defence is lovely, and I'll be looking to move towards similar in a few weeks time, probably with Tierney in place of Shaw (I have both at present) to dodge Man Utd's tough run

Triple Man U, triple Liv, double WH for me.
Which leaves realistically 3 players from other teams (including the GK).

Time to do a triple move for a -4 and diversify for me this week I think.

    Son+ reguilon >> jota + TAA for (-4)

My only concern is jota keeping his place but here's the result for GW5

    Schmeical
    Cancelo,TAA, Shaw, coady, manquillo
    Salah, jota, benrahma, Antonio
    Ronaldo
    -----------------
    Antonio, Gilmour , davis

The result with 2.2 itb, the idea is do shaw+ cancelo+antonio>>lukaku, rudiger/james+ 4.3 defender in the coming weeks with Chelsea's fixture turn but Idk if I'm planning too many transfers ahead with too many hits when people like jota aren't nailed on or benrahma is losing form.

TAA in is a must, and never look back

Like the long term plan. A hit now to set up subsequent moves seems entirely reasonable.

    Best move here?

    A. Son + Tsimikas > Raphinha + Trent(-4)
    B. WC

    Sanchez
    Shaw Ayling Livramento
    Salah Son Jota Benrahma
    Ronaldo Ings Antonio
    4m Gilmour Webster Tsimi

    1 FT 0.3 ITB

I'll probably end up being wrong AGAIN, but Tsmi could still be a thing if Robbo plays Milan imo

I agree but that's the only way I can afford TAA. Will be worth it even if Tainikas starts this week.

I need save 0.7 in order to find Ronaldo and Salah.

Which of the following moves would you make for that?

    A) Alonso to a 5.0 def
    B) Greenwood to Raphinha
    C) Jota to Raphinha
    D) Antonio to a 7.0 striker

    Thanks

A for sure of those lot.

Feel like you’ll want the money in midfield for chasing upside players later on.

Haha me and you are quite similar, i need to sell Greenwood or Jota to fund Antonio to Lukaku. Think I'm going to sell Greenwood as Jota has CRY Bre but as you know whichever i sell with haullllllllll ass.

I think you should sell Ant but everyone else will strongly disagree, I just feel he and West Ham will decline now.

    Meslier / 4.0
    TAA / Alonso / James / Duffy / Omo
    Salah / Jota / GW / Torres / Ben
    Lukaku/ Anto / 4.5

    1FT / 0.5 ITB / 11K OR

Will Alonso keep fooling predictions & start again next week or is it better to trade him in for City Defener will favourable fixture home to Southampton?

Don't go Dele. I had him from the start but most likely will move him next GW. He has been great, but absolutely not from the FPL perspective. Lucky to get that goal from pen. So far 0.18 npxG and 0.00 xA. Not saying he won't get some in the future, but much better options now.

Would you Antonio -> Bamford here? Or save/diff transfer?

    Sa - Steele
    TAA - James - Shaw - Livra - Williams
    Salah - Torres - Raph - Sarr - Allan
    CR7 - Jimenez - Antonio

    1 FT, 0.1 ITB

Would have to play one of Williams/Allan if I were to bench Antonio.
Not sure I am keen on doubling up on Leeds as I already have double Wolves, Pool, ManU

The worst part about playing WC is that it is best to play it just after the GW is gone to catch all the price changes. No time for thorough analysis whether to play it or not.

That’s why it’s good to plan ahead! Aim for fixture turns rather than responding to games just played too much.
This year it’s been weird with Rom and Ron coming in late though. A whole new variable.

True. Although Antonio suspension opens some possibilities. Couple of players I would want to move too. Was planning to play it later but it's tempting to use it now.

I know it was all about Ronaldo yesterday, but I was shocked how open united were, could easily have conceded 3 or 4 but for some poor decision making by Newcastle.

They haven’t been good defensively at all.
And now with Pogba playing in the middle it’s not going to help.
Shaw has been lucky to do decent so far I reckon.

Do we think Ramsdale will now keep his place as Gunners number 1 keeper after his clean sheet? His price of 4.5 is quite appealing and I'm thinking about selling Bachman as Watford seem to be allergic to clean sheets.
